- Jefftrick, on 07/24/2008, -1/+267Rock Band: Where I can pretend I'm a better guitar player than Alex Lifeson.
- roomforpanic, on 07/24/2008, -4/+187Neil Peart is one of the greatest drummers of all time.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -7/+185i was just listening to 2112 a couple weeks ago. i always keep it in my car in case of a draft so i can drive clean through the canadian border with no hassles
- aftern9ne, on 07/24/2008, -0/+153They seemed pretty good, they should start a real band or something.
- bobman2007, on 07/24/2008, -7/+142They probably only got 31% due to the guitar failing. Playing drums or vocals is almost the same in real life, but playing guitar or bass is not quite the same, of course.
- galeninjapan, on 07/24/2008, -3/+114Dude, Rush is amazing.
- dafragsta, on 07/24/2008, -2/+107I hate when wannabe musicians rail on people just having a good time playing a music game like Rock Band or Guitar Hero. I've had a guitar in my hand in some form since I was a small child and I never once thought that these games were an assault on real musicians or that it was cool to tell people that they should learn a real instrument. That's ***** self inflating fake pride talking.
I LOVE Rock Band and Guitar Hero. First and foremost, it's fun and a more interactive way to enjoy your favorite songs. Most musicians don't really learn to cover every single song they like and I'd honestly say a lot of what you learn in that game does translate very well into real playing. Maybe not the note fretting, but certainly alternate picking, hammer-ons/pull-offs, timing, playing through your mistakes instead of stopping, and *****, it's good for emboldening the rock star inside you that you want to come out.
If none of this were true, I seriously doubt real musicians like Rush, Slash, Trent Reznor, etc. would actually play these games. - Spuy767, on 07/24/2008, -1/+99I think they got a bad score because Neil needed another six of those drum sets to truly feel in his element.
- JBabin3xB, on 07/24/2008, -4/+67I can beat Neil Peart!
- JingleHymrShmit, on 07/24/2008, -2/+65Colbert should have played bass
- maverick999, on 07/24/2008, -2/+61I thought it was a video of Rush Limbaugh, now that REALLY would have surprised me.
- WillOgles, on 07/24/2008, -4/+54Perhaps Alex should try pressing X-A-A instead of Y-Y-Z.
- andypop481, on 07/24/2008, -1/+51actually, guitar hero 3 did an interview with slash, who said knowing how to play a guitar actually made it harder to play guitar hero
- Clark3934, on 07/24/2008, -2/+49"When I was about twelve, I decided I wanted to be the next Neil Peart."
-Mike Portnoy
I rest my case. - HillerMylife, on 07/24/2008, -1/+47We're through the looking glass now
- josh42042, on 07/24/2008, -1/+46i must!
- sondatch, on 07/24/2008, -2/+43Viacom blocks their videos from being shown in Canada... how annoying.
- raitchison, on 07/24/2008, -0/+35That song in Rock Band is a cover, so he had to imitate someone who was imitating him
- bootycakes, on 07/24/2008, -1/+35bad camera angles from HELL!
- Liability, on 07/24/2008, -0/+33
What - Ollee64, on 07/24/2008, -4/+36All it proves is even if you have actual talent, doesn't mean you are going to be good at the game.
You can still suck at real life and suck at Rock Band... - kd420, on 07/24/2008, -0/+29Uploaded it to youtube for my fellow canadians:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8auw-D-DfU - Cleremond, on 07/24/2008, -0/+29I can imagine how difficult playing the guitar in Guitar Hero or Rock Band might be for someone that's done nothing but play the REAL thing for 30 years. Cut Alex some slack.
If you are Rush or any other legendary rock band for that matter, playing a video game when you could be on stage playing the real thing for thousands of fans is kinda like having a beautiful naked woman that's willing to fulfill your every sexual fantasy lying right next to you, and deciding to jerk off instead. - BoboTheHobo, on 07/24/2008, -8/+36Buried because Rush owns, Rock Band is okay, Guitar Hero owns, and Geddy looks more like a lizard.
- thefandango, on 07/24/2008, -0/+28my roommate had the same issue. My untrained ass was stomping him around, and he's a classically trained guitarist.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -0/+27Im sorry are you calling Alex Lifeson a 'three chord folkie'? You have obviously never listened to any Rush song
- Abomonog, on 07/24/2008, -0/+27Not quite the same is an understatement.
- revjustin2, on 07/24/2008, -0/+26I second that. What?
- DiodeJenero, on 07/24/2008, -3/+28I think I speak for most intelligent people when I say, get off the whole real guitar vs Guitar Hero/Rock band thing. We get it now let us enjoy our plastic instruments while you pretend people give a ***** that you play real guitar in your garage.
- therealfoz, on 07/24/2008, -0/+22Can't see it 'cause I'm in Canada.. but I'll digg anything about Rush.
- toekneebullard, on 07/24/2008, -0/+22It's nice to see another drummer suck at drumming for rock band. I just CAN'T get used to the way they notate things.
- MasterTroll, on 07/24/2008, -0/+21That's a joke, right? They are great musicians.
- channelx, on 07/24/2008, -3/+23Though his mind is not for rent
Don't put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day's events
The river! - bradleyjx, on 07/24/2008, -1/+21Must be the combination of "Colbert", "Rock Band", and "Rush" in the title.
- alapoet, on 07/24/2008, -2/+22I definitely must.
Rush rules forever.
Rock Band and Guitar Hero are irrelevant.
Geddy Lee looks like Sitting Bull. - oxymoron69, on 07/24/2008, -2/+22***** Viacom, eh!
- Jefftrick, on 07/24/2008, -0/+19You have your opinions and that's great, but I must indeed.
- eriksanerd, on 07/24/2008, -0/+18Neil Pert is so serious. But then, he plays drums like that too. I saw him in concert, and I don't think he smiled once.
- onehitwonder, on 07/24/2008, -0/+17Grace Under Pressure.
- alihaq717, on 07/24/2008, -0/+17@ADHD: You sir, need some serious help. Notice the keyword in Jefftrick's sentence is "pretend".
- dlm85, on 07/24/2008, -0/+16Dugg for the Alex wearing a kimono fact.
- CrazedLeper, on 07/24/2008, -0/+15Not fail, hypergreatness has been achieved. It's like in the early days of video games when you got over 999,999 and it went back to 0.
- jawdog, on 07/24/2008, -0/+15From one Canadian to an American, please help your northern neighbors and grab and post this file on youtube or something. It feels very awkward to be blocked from seeing a video of a CANADIAN band.
- chadisawesome, on 07/24/2008, -3/+17or it goes to show he was playing on medium in the game but hitting the drums as if he were playing expert. probably would have done better on a harder difficulty. My drummer friends can't play on medium or hard, they add too many notes as they are too used to playing a real kit.
- cardyology, on 07/24/2008, -4/+18I dont care what anybody says, Rush are Canadas greatest export.....(after trailer park boys & voivod of course).
- gn0stik, on 07/24/2008, -4/+17Niel Peart failed them out. Wow. Just goes to show that Rockband drums can teach you rhythm, but it's nothing like the real thing.
- etx313, on 07/24/2008, -2/+15Peart is one of the best *ROCK* drummers of our time yes. Rock drummers.
- WiretapStudios, on 07/24/2008, -0/+13I'm waiting for Guitar Hero: Backstage, where I can simulate doing mounds of coke and juggling groupies, expert level.
- thescimitar, on 07/24/2008, -0/+13He has a zen-like playing state. This is true for a lot of drummers, particularly those who can keep different time signatures in different appendages.
