- chocobomog, on 11/09/2007, -3/+128For those of you who don't understand why everyone is upset, it is the same as if J.K Rowling died before finished the last Harry Potter book. Many of us have been reading Jordan's series (planned to be 12 books) since it first started in 1990, and he died right before finishing book 12.
He will be missed. - Fantom, on 11/09/2007, -1/+76Duty is heavy as a mountain, death is light as a feather. RIP.
- chyperbola, on 11/09/2007, -0/+74"Jordan has been dictating outlines and plot lines and everything else related to the final book. He used the phrase "army of writers" to talk about the people that were converting those tapes into written form.
It would appear that the final book will still be published, I'm sure details regarding that will work themselves out. So please be patient (as challenging as that might be), and for now let's focus on Jordan's life, writing, and the joy he brought to us."

- never102, on 10/10/2007, -2/+45This sucks... WoT is my all time favorite series, but what sucks even more is what this great man had to go through and did go through every day to stay with us as long as he did. RIP Robert Jordan, you'll be missed.
- Enchantrem, on 10/10/2007, -2/+44if by "planned to be 12 books" you mean planned to be 5 books, then 7, then 8, then 10, then 12... ...
RIP J. O. R. Jr. - halo6819, on 10/10/2007, -0/+41i cant believe that after a decade of reading his books, he didnt live to see al his visions realized.
as to those asking about wther or not he finished the book:
1. He did not finish the book
2. He did have the story complete though and told both to his cousin and wife.
3. In the past Jordan had said that if he died the books will stand as is, but after being diagnosed he hinted that his wife Harriet might complete the series.
Rest in Peace RJ - soapycub, on 11/09/2007, -1/+42Blood and bloody ashes!
- chocobomog, on 10/10/2007, -7/+46Please say he finished book 12 before passing...
:( - Iravan, on 11/09/2007, -1/+36dugg with sadness
- KBMaster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30 This is absolutely horrible I've been reading the series since i was 16-17 :( I loved it so much I own every book 1 - 11 and I've been re-listening to them all on mp3 at work :( I think his work is an absolute masterpiece that will stand the test of time and be read and loved by generations to come. I am deeply saddened by this news and I do hope that through his wife and cousin his final vision is realized. I'm on the phone ending my relationship with my girlfriend right now and I saw this and I am far more devastated by this news than this break-up. This is utterly terrible for all who enjoyed his work.
- joelm2400, on 11/09/2007, -2/+30It feels like just yesterday I picked up "The Eye of the World" and yet it was almost 6 years ago since I entered into the vivid world which he created and so kindly chose to share with us. Today marks the passing of a truly great man. My wife who just started the series will be crushed. And it will be with a heavy heart that I will continue to read his works. My wife's and my thoughts and prayers will be with his family.
- ripple123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28NOOOOOOOOOOOO
- Melindhra, on 11/09/2007, -1/+29Rest in peace. Your books have given me countless hours of entertainment. Thank you for that.
- dist0rti0n, on 10/10/2007, -6/+32Did he ever finish the series?
- benc, on 11/09/2007, -2/+27I'm very sad to hear this, and sadder to see the flood of "omg who's going to write book 12 now?!" comments just getting started. I don't deny that that thought crossed my mind too, but... chill. Respect and remember the author first. Fanservice later.
When that time does come though, remember that many authors have died with words left unwritten. Often times a family member or friend will take up the burden. Look at Christopher Tolkien and Brian Herbert. I'm not holding my breath, but my hope is that we'll see something similar for Jordan's work. - mem2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22dammit now I will never get to find out what happens to Rand and the rest :~(
You will be missed Robert Jordan - bkemper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21Then he took every chapter of that and turned it into 3 books.
- sail191912, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Last I read, it was supposed to be released next year. I hope there was a rough draft an editor could finish.
RIP Mr Jordan. He fought the disease a long time. - Velnich, on 10/10/2007, -5/+24I think I'm ashamed that my first thought was, "Oh *****."
- TheMikey, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Blood and bloody ashes...
RIP Robert Jordan. - Thepirateking, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Wow. I can appreciate the awfulness of this. I started reading his books a long time ago, and stopped around book 8, just sort of lost interest at the time. Just today I was looking at my book shelf and thinking of picking them up again. The first thought in my head was "I wonder if he'll ever finish them?" I guess not. Even if book 12 is written, it won't be the same. His passing feels worse knowing that he never got to see his work finished.
- Dysarthria, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17I will digg you because it is entirely proper that this devastate you more than you breaking up with your girlfriend.
- fangface, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18RIP RJ
You wrote one of the great epic stories of our time, you will be missed. - Spamiclese, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16"That mountain can grow awfully heavy sometimes," [Rand] sighed, taking a spear and buckler from Rhuarc. "When do you find a chance to put it down awhile?"
"When you die," Lan said simply. — The Shadow Rising - gary200188, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15gotta digg you up for reading Digg while breaking up with your girlfriend, props man
- MisterSquishy, on 10/30/2007, -0/+15When I heard he died, I tugged my braids and straightened my dress in distress!
- bajesus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14last I heard he had a lot of the book actually written and had sat his family and friends down and told them the entire story for the last book.
- Billiam627, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18My god, I thought Vonnegut dying affected me. I can't even describe how empty I feel right now. Imagine dying before being able to see your dreams realized...
- arjie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15This'll probably sound like an echo, but when my friend messaged me when I was in class, I had the urge to scream out exactly that!
I'm okay with the book remaining unfinished, it had so many sub-plots I don't think there's a possible ending that would give it justice, but why Robert Jordan, why him? There are so many other people who deserve to die instead, if only we could barter lives... - fremeer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12cept every1 who has read WoT
- eatbeefjerky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13That was precisely my reaction to reading the title of this story. *****.
- xaxxon, on 10/10/2007, -9/+21you were never going to find out, anyhow
- swordedge, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13I have been thinking about rereading his series lately. This pushes me over the edge, time to get all books and enjoy them again.
- Shadar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Exactly what I was thinking when I read the title :(
- KarmaPoIice, on 10/10/2007, -7/+18This man's literature changed my life. R.I.P
- blaket, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Sadly that is the case. What was a three book series has become a twelve book series, at least -- I'd imagine that they'd drag it out even more if he didn't pass on. My condolences go out to his family and friends.
- arjie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11It's amazing how long he managed to live and write. I heard that he left instructions with his publisher on how to finish the series in the event he died before it was completed. I hope they won't get someone to ghostwrite just to end it.
- Baelorn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10RJ himself would have likely smiled at this comment. Thank you for lessening the sadness a bit.
- Shivian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10My mind screamed that exact word as soon as I saw the title :-(
- Puppetfunk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Wow. RIP. It's sad to see such a great author go.
I wonder is when Dickens died if there were tons of people saying "NOOOO Who Will Finish The Mystery Of Edwin Drood now!!?" - Khuzud, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13Well, at least he has a reason now why it won't ever be finished.
- zymurgist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Seventeen years ago I started the epic journey with Robert Jordan, and yes my first thought was, "Oh *****!" However, the true tragedy of this is the fact that he never completed. Yes, he may have the basic outline of the story hammered out, but the end product of all those years labors of love never came to fruition. I know the book will come out, but I wish that RJ would be around for the end. To hear the community built around these books rejoice at the end, for many of us spanning nearly two decades, of an amazing journey. Thank you Robert Jordan.
- mcrumiller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8The people mocking those of us who are hit hard by this loss don't fully realize the community that has been built around RJ's books. Yes, they are long-winded and sometimes drawn out, but there is more information between the lines of his books than of any other. The first book came out in 1990, and many of us have been devoted followers, analyzing characters, hidden plots, and story links in the umpteen years since. The fact that in-depth discussions and debates continue to this day is a testament to the vastness of the world he created.
In addition to that, Robert Jordan was much closer to his fan base than conventional authors. With his near-weekly blog he responded to comments on common message boards, questions people had, kept us updated about his life and the progress of upcoming books, offering prayers for peoples' troubles, jesting all the meanwhile and keeping lighthearted about his condition. Those in the dragonmount or wotmania community were much closer to RJ than the horde of WoT readers who knew only the books, so please respect this and remember that some weep for both the man behind the scenes as well as the loss of the epic story he has created.
To lighten a few hearts as to the future of the series, the past couple weeks RJ has been pouring out as many details as he can to close family and friends . He's been recording into audiotapes as much as possible, writing as much as his feeble hands were capable of, and the world will be finished. While the exact writing may differ, the story and resolutions will be exactly as RJ had planned. Don't cry too hard. - Ghoztt, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12He's on with a new journey now. Be happy for him! It is what we have all been promised. Death is nothing more, and nothing less than change. God Bless.
- iceblademan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10I know people like you.
I like to refer to them as "idiots." - Vulcanis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Rest in Peace, James Oliver Rigney, Jr. The Light guide you, and the last embrace of the mother welcome you home.
- MarcelLionheart, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9The blog is down/really slow. It said:
"It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God’s timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.
Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.
Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We’ve all felt the love that you’ve been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support. Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.
My sincerest thanks.
Peace and Light be with each of you,
Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn’t. I haven’t. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn’t exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God’s name.
Editor’s Note:
The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan’s family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates." - ImYourRealDad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8And he did continue to write until they nailed shut his coffin.
RIP Rob. -
