- av4rice, on 01/30/2008, -1/+35The Digg algorithm is trying to make millions off Britney's escapades
- TomK88, on 01/30/2008, -3/+33It's sad that society cares more about Spears being an idiot than any important issue. The world would be a much better place if everybody was smart enough to follow the news and current events with at least some understanding of what is going on.
- fant0m, on 01/30/2008, -1/+17It makes me mad when decent people (like Heath Ledger) and great people (Steve Irwin) die in crazy, unexplainable (why did it HAVE to happen) ways, when this moron continues to screw her life up and force us to watch it happen.
She's like a damn cockroach. Her, Lindsay, Paris, etc are all like a party of cockroaches who just won't go away.
I'm not saying she should die - but if push came to shove, and I had to choose who would live between Steve Irwin and Britney Spears - Crikey! - that's an easy choice! - inactive, on 01/30/2008, -6/+21...Not even CNN
- allanpat, on 01/30/2008, -2/+14I have a feeling that articles in less popular categories like Entertainment > Celebrity don't need as many diggs to get to the home page than say Technology submissions do.
Oh & shut up about the ***** Digg front page conspiracy already. Who cares how the algorithm works? - SickBoy, on 01/30/2008, -3/+13"Increasingly, the picture of our society as rendered in our media is illusionary and delusionary: disfigured, unreal, out of touch with reality, disconnected from the true context of our life. It is disfigured by celebrity, by celebrity worship, by gossip, by sensationalism, by denial of our societies’ real condition and a political and social discourse that we — the press, the media, the politician and the people — are turning into a sewer."
- Carl Bernstein - TomK88, on 01/30/2008, -3/+11I guess if money = not being a loser your comment might make sense...
However:
-She has serious drug problems
-She has serious mental problems
-Her kids were taken away from her
-She is divorced
-Her life is a tragedy just waiting for the last nail to be put in her coffin
Personally, I'll take my sad existence as a middle-class suburbanite over her life any day. - entrophize, on 01/30/2008, -4/+9Who gives a *****?
No...really. Who...seriously...cares? Britney Spears and anyone else for that matter who commands this sort of pointless attention is trite and boring at best. - N3tw0rk, on 01/30/2008, -3/+7Bury this *****, this should not be on the front page. WTF Digg users?
- TomK88, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5It's not TV or the media's fault. It's society's for wanting to watch Spears' latest spectacle instead of the Presidential Debates or an update on the Iraq War.
- bunji, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5I think organic mental issues were in the cards for her even if she were Britney Smith, anonymous Louisiana housewife, but the howling public bloodlust and glee regarding her demise is grotesque. It makes me feel awful for her -- she's a *****-up young mother, not a monster out to hurt people. You're right, perhaps the fact that it's wildly lucrative says more about us than about her.
- wil2200, on 01/30/2008, -2/+6this is what's wrong with america
people are more interested in idiotic celebrities than in the state of the country or their lives. This sort of misdirection by media and by yourselves will be america's downfall - we are living in it right now - reuscel, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5Seriously, I'm a member of Digg because I like to avoid stories like this. Buried.
- burningbush, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4I disagree. The media is largely to blame for the complicity of the population. It is no coincidence that North American media outlets are undergoing widespread consolidation. If you control the flow of information, you control the public mind, and thusly, the future of a civilization. This is nothing new. It's been happening for centuries, just in different forms.
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5Better add digg users to the list. Geez if you people despise her so much how the ***** did this hit the front page. Buried.
- fant0m, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3Well said.
- kingmanic, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3"To profit from the demise of another person is to live the American dream."
I'm certain Heath Legers death will add 10-20% to the dark knight gross. - inactive, on 01/30/2008, -2/+5See this is the ugly truth about money. It does not care whether you are living or dying- because it isn't real. When people put a money dollar value over human contribution- humanity loses value while money's value increases. Money does not care if its success or failure- because money does not really exist at all. And when you sell out to money- you cease to exist. "Wealthy" people become disillusioned and kill themselves all the time drowning in a deep pool of cash. Or they swim casually in their shallow pool of cash.
People and their individual contributions are what give them value to me- which is only my opinion.
I would rather choke to death on my perception of integrity, than change my POV from a mansion's window. My cage is guilded enough for my comfort. From where I sit, its a gorgeous day- and I don't need to hear it from anyone else to believe it. - ronaldinho, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3You know what? This is actually not Britney's fault though. Not to say she's not a moron (she is and I dugg you up for it), but here is the media deciding to make her already chaotic life a ***** circus, and then people actually paying their own ***** way to see the girl unravel. Look, Britney did not FORCE us to watch this (but if she did, ***** her); the media fed us these *****, and people are WILLINGLY eating it. Just look at those tabloids magazine and how much profit they are making. I don't give a ***** about Britney at all, but I read this article and dugg it because it's ***** ridiculous how many people are profiting off someone's demise and tragedy and WANTING Britney's train wreck to continue so that they can profit further more. This is just ***** wrong in my opinion. Just my two cents.
- blackinthmiddle, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3Digg is just an engine. The users decide what's interesting. As much as we like to hate Britney, apparently enough diggers got her to the front page.
- kingmanic, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2It's simply the amount of free press his death has afforded the movie. His fans will help too. Those who might not have seen it will definitely go see his last work.
- tuurd, on 01/30/2008, -2/+4buried. who gives a flying *****?
- fiestycrumbler, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2they are in cahoots, whats with all these conspiracy's
- ZaZ2137, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2You really want to put your hotdog down THAT hallway?
- norman619, on 01/30/2008, -1/+3The problem is that his comment comes off sounding like just more bitching than just honest curiosity.
- fani, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2I have Adblock too. I'm talking about the principle behind this argument.
Media reporting media making millions by adding another media topic on her. Just stop reporting on her.
She isn't worth reporting and there are other better things to report to the world. - sigmaman2, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2LEAVE BRITNEY ALO...
...oh nevermind. - bbqsalad, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2Its many other country's too.. The Brits are just as bad if not worse with their celebrity gossip *****.
- BearinG, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2Apparently... Britney must have made a visit to Iraq recently..
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2The Crow is a good film.
A lot of the stuff that was in the Matrix the Crow had years before.
Uzis and Katannas, Rooftop jumping... - inactive, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2It seems that way but it's the opposite. Stupid sheep decide what is on TV.
Tv is just studying market research and giving people what they want. - BingoPower, on 01/30/2008, -4/+6Sorry, Buried... Spears appears ***** everywhere and now she's on Digg...
- sarahlea, on 02/27/2008, -0/+1But she's all over the internet too...and newspapers...magazines. And if not her then other celebs like Sarkovsky are being hunted down
- dlm85, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1This country is a mess. We are fed a heavy diet celebrity meltdowns and touchy-feely human interest stories. There are 1000s of kids just like her that nobody cares about. We are FUBAR.
- theskyman, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1Yes, it is very sad that so many people live vicariously through Spears, most likely because there own lives are a train wreck as well.
- norman619, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1All she is doing is living her life. But then this actually is the price of celebrity so I don't have much sympathy.
- alexra, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1turns out she is good for something
- mcphatty, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1why cant you guys just leave britney alone!!!! OMG!!!
i am so sick of britney fans... dont they realize that britney craves media attention, whether it be negative or positive? - BlueJeanBaby, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Everyone wonders why she has some problems... We, yes all of us, who want to see the pictures of her and read the stories have only instigated her problems... I know I have been guilty of this as well, but I think it is time to really leave the poor girl alone. She has alot going on in her life we all know this, we are interested its human nature, why cant we focus on bigger problems, like the economy or our retarded president, or the fact we have the most wide open president election coming up in Nov since 1929? We have bigger fish to fry in this country. It is obvious that she does have some problems that she needs to deal with, really though who does not have problems. Shouldn't we allow her to deal with her problems without having cameras following her around and documenting her every move? This is only making her problem worse, I think it is time we finally left her alone and let her live her life, as well as get the help she needs without America all over her.
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -0/+1I would imagine that a similar situation helped The Crow a bit.
- buddamus, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1Well I didn't like her then, I don't like her now
- Boshow, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1She's kind of like Cancer. Not that she's as bad as cancer but with out the disease, thousands of people would be out of a job. Instead of doctors and medical researchers, it would be gossip columnists, paparazzi, and liquor store owners.
- cheesegrits, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Growth in number of "media" sites/organizations=same amount of information on more sites/magazines/networks,etc=seems like there is more of this type of information. Same amount as before.
And alcoholism/drug addiction is characterized by a person acting in the same manner but expecting different results each time. Then the reality of the world sets in and the need to use even more drugs/alcohol is present. Vicious cycle.
Enablers such as parents/managers also get positive emotional feedback from having the alcoholic/drug addict become even more dependent. Another cycle.
The monetary profit would probably be present even if the "news" were about something else-just distributed differently. - PacketScan, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1The longer this goes on... It just seems to me like a publicity stunt over and over again. Everyone reporting on this is making alot of money. And i'm sure britney is profitting from this somehow.. However my conclusion has falts when it comes to the chilren "would she really do that on purpose".. But hey.. She's still alive and shopping..
- Nackaroo, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Agreed
- Gotar, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1Britney WHO?
Buried. - BearinG, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1I actually saw a tabloid today that had her picture on the cover with headline "Expert gives Britney 6 months to live".
I guess they must of some kind of agreement with Fox's experts.. - tripm, on 01/30/2008, -1/+2I am above the fray.
