To all the 12 year olds making Batman/Brokeback jokes.***** you. How could you be bigger douches. It hasn't even been gone 2 hours and you are already making stupid unfunny jokes: "maybe he broke his back," "did Batman kill him?" Even if he was an *****, those joke weren't even clever. I hope when someone you love dies there are a bunch of pre-pubescent assholes there to joke about it. On a lighter note, anyone who doubts his acting, just check out Monster's Ball, he was absolutely brilliant. The world is little worse off today.- toefer, on 01/22/2008, -4/+19I had second thoughts when he was given the role, but the clips I've seen changed my mind. Wasn't the Joker supposed to be in the 3rd movie as well? It will be strange to see the role recast for that one.
- DarkSamus, on 01/23/2008, -9/+6quit sucking on that heathbar
there are hundreds of people killed for no good reason everyday, don't get too caught up on one celeb - michaelb1, on 01/23/2008, -1/+4I wish I could quit him.
RIP.
- DarkSamus, on 01/23/2008, -9/+6quit sucking on that heathbar
- scotticus, on 01/22/2008, -34/+12You can quit sucking... he's dead. Nothing is going to come out.
- therightclique, on 01/23/2008, -5/+2wow. that's just stupid.
- drignotum, on 01/22/2008, -12/+5some of these kids would have their avatar dance or piss on your grave during your funeral just as long as they dont have to get out from in front of the pc screens.
- MWeather, on 01/22/2008, -2/+9And some of us would come to the funeral to do it in person, out of respect.
- llamaguy132, on 01/22/2008, -21/+10nitesmoke, shut the ***** up... please
- Nitesmoke, on 01/23/2008, -9/+5Or what? you gonna kick my ass? all I asked is for people to chill on the immature jokes, and I asked it about one hour after he was found dead. Why does this make me an *****? Judging by how deep you were buried, no one seems to agree with you either. But if you think I'm such an idiot, scroll down and see how my other comments fared.
- nepawoods, on 01/23/2008, -9/+5"But if you think I'm such an idiot, scroll down and see how my other comments fared"
It's a pretty sad state of affairs when people think number of diggs is a measure of their intelligence.
BTW, who was this dead loser anyway? A 2 year old daughter, and he chokes down a lethal dose of pills. Bravo.
- burnin8r28, on 01/22/2008, -17/+2cause of death: choked

- sockpuppets, on 01/22/2008, -78/+22I am fully aware my sense of humor goes beyond the comfort of most. Digg me down, I can handle it.
- Kr1ngle0, on 01/22/2008, -16/+37Your sense of humor just sucks.
- sockpuppets, on 01/22/2008, -63/+144500 comments with an average of +18. Digg says otherwise.

- sockpuppets, on 01/22/2008, -41/+13It's raining.
- Kr1ngle0, on 01/22/2008, -6/+17Yet again you prove your superior humor...
This isn't going to do your average any good. - mem2, on 01/22/2008, -11/+7I encourage people to simply block losers like sockpuppet. he seems more desperate for attention / acknowledgement that the goth pair.
- sockpuppets, on 01/23/2008, -12/+12Coming from a man with a green mohawk I'd say that's the pot calling the kettle black.
- m00kie, on 01/23/2008, -1/+4Dont hate the haters, hate the game.
- kedohmen, on 01/22/2008, -9/+18No it's funny. Just a bit too soon. I mean it's been only a few hours.
- mitthuman, on 01/22/2008, -12/+3I agree...would be funny...too soon
- Tiak, on 01/22/2008, -4/+14Is it also wrong to find humor in a story titled "Heath_Ledger_is_Dead_4" next to a picture with "Exclusive!" scrawled across the top?...
The story has broke, the paparazzi are all over it. People die, it happens, the fact that one out of the thousand or so that died at this particular second happens to be famous shouldn't be earth-shattering.
- Kr1ngle0, on 01/22/2008, -16/+37Your sense of humor just sucks.
- treagh, on 01/22/2008, -15/+12I digg your humor... I bury your timing. I hear those jokes in my head... just fight to keep them in until it is more appropriate... if ever.
- sockpuppets, on 01/22/2008, -25/+11Live vicariously through my suffering, I was born without a head editor.
- MWeather, on 01/23/2008, -0/+4Pop culture jokes are only funny when they're current. This is the best time to make jokes.
- ha1f, on 01/22/2008, -12/+8I lol'd.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 01/22/2008, -12/+2I don't get it. Is that a quote from one of his movies or something?
- mhuggins, on 01/23/2008, -0/+7Brokeback Mountain: “I wish I knew how to quit you”
- bluezinc, on 01/23/2008, -4/+6You've got what they call a "comedians sense of humor" meaning you think of the jokes the comedians tell to each other backstage, but never, ever to the audience because of people like... well... everyone who buried you for a joke. They really need to lighten up.
Some people actually get over grief by joking about it.
- kedohmen, on 01/22/2008, -9/+29thats ***** up right there...
- Nitesmoke, on 01/22/2008, -10/+392He was really coming into his own as an actor. I saw the first ten minutes of the new Batman, and from what I saw he was brilliant. He has a small daughter. Very sad. RIP, Heath. Everyone please chill with the Batman jokes.
- jlmillstein, on 01/23/2008, -12/+9Yes, can we all please just back it down, respectfully? Nobody, celebrity or not, deserves to have jokes made about them just hours after their death.
- scotticus, on 01/23/2008, -10/+16He's dead. He doesn't care. Laugh it up.
- andy6915, on 01/23/2008, -1/+2I didn't think something could get this many diggs. I mean damn, 17K diggs? Anyway, the guy was an awesome joker from what I saw, he was a good actor. Why do bad things always happen to the good people in this world?
- 11oops, on 01/23/2008, -1/+2@andy... because they decide to choke down a lethal dose of painkillers. It's not like this was a freak accident where a piano fell out of the sky and crushed him.
- diktator279, on 01/23/2008, -0/+8so when Britney offs herself we can't make jokes either?
- scotticus, on 01/23/2008, -10/+16He's dead. He doesn't care. Laugh it up.
- therightclique, on 01/23/2008, -2/+5dude. no one here has even made a single ***** batman joke. you're just being a dick.

- GhengisKhan, on 01/23/2008, -7/+3Way to put your own appetite for drugs ahead of that of your family. Jerk-off.
- jlmillstein, on 01/23/2008, -12/+9Yes, can we all please just back it down, respectfully? Nobody, celebrity or not, deserves to have jokes made about them just hours after their death.
- kirb59y, on 01/22/2008, -6/+82Unbelievable.... he had such a great future.

- BESTenemy, on 01/22/2008, -63/+21Another celebrity to replace Paris Hilton and Anna Nicole in headlines while this country is going deeper into the recession. "The stock market is crashing! We need celebrity news to cover the crap an occupy the mind of those that this country's government is robbing."
There are events that affect some and things that affect everyone. Why do we care about celebrities so much when we have real problems on our hands? Is this how we express denial? Sure, great tragedy, but even greater one is happening to the entire country. If we don't get our ***** together, we'll be meeting Mr. Heath real soon.- scotticus, on 01/22/2008, -5/+13Mr. Ledger
- xsuite, on 01/22/2008, -12/+2No. Mr. Heath works just fine.
- scotticus, on 01/23/2008, -1/+9Ok, but if you call me Mr. Scotticus I'll ***** punch you.

- XXXXXXXXXXXXXX, on 01/23/2008, -16/+4Shut the ***** up, you pessimistic *****.
- MWeather, on 01/23/2008, -2/+13Thousands of other people died today. None of them are on the news. His death isn't newsworthy, it just gets better ratings than other deaths.
- AdmiralKarelia, on 01/23/2008, -1/+4It's newsworthy because he's someone that MANY people know of. If I knew an average joe that died, I'd consider it just as bad.
- Skooma714, on 01/23/2008, -3/+11How convenient for those in power that he should die the very day the Stock Market opens at -400.
- Chompy, on 01/23/2008, -3/+6Seek help.
- TheTSArt, on 01/23/2008, -4/+3First, your placing Heath Ledger with the likes of Paris Hilton is disgusting. Heath was an actor and a father. Paris is a spoiled rich child who never grew up and is determined to inflict her distorted sense of reality on the world.
Secondly, you obviously place financial matters above the lives of people. How much more coverage of our financial situation did we really need today? What more information could have been conveyed about the stock market in those 2 minutes on the evening news tonight? And do we really need to scare people even further so they will get out of the market, stop spending and make things worse?
You can be upset that one man's death got the news while thousands of others who died today didn't. But that's reality, a man who is known by millions will make the news, and a man who isn't, won't--deal with it.- Peck3277, on 01/23/2008, -4/+1Replace "Paris is a spoiled rich child" with "Paris is a spoiled rich bitch" and ill digg you up
- scotticus, on 01/22/2008, -5/+13Mr. Ledger
- blckng, on 01/22/2008, -20/+48"See, there were these two guys in a lunatic asylum…and one night…one night they decide they don’t like living in an asylum any more. They decide they’re going to escape! So like they get up on to the roof, and there, just across the narrow gap, they see the rooftops of the town, stretching away in moon light…stretching away to freedom.
Now the first guy he jumps right across with no problem. But his friend, his friend daren’t make the leap. Y’see he’s afraid of falling… So then the first guy has an idea. He says “Hey! I have my flash light with me. I will shine it across the gap between the buildings. You can walk across the beam and join me.” B-But the second guy just shakes his head. He suh-says …he says “What you think I am crazy? You would turn it off when I was half way across. "

How apropos.- kweli, on 01/22/2008, -7/+5why is he gettinh dugg down?
he's only quoting the movie?- blckng, on 01/22/2008, -2/+23No, that's from The Killing Joke. The greatest Joker story ever told. A joke that isn't funny, and isn't supposed to be, but applies to both the situation in the comic, and Ledger's death.
It's a metaphor, in this case, for his decision to kill himself. It's an explanation for his self-destructive behavior, the oppressive and unshakable feeling of entrapment, where you're unable to reach out to those around you, and/or you can't trust those that reach back.
But hey, I don't pretend to understand the burying habits of diggers. It doesn't matter.- skatastrophy, on 01/23/2008, -0/+9That response was far too mature for digg... I thought I was on Slashdot for a second there
- therightclique, on 01/23/2008, -3/+4Please explain the metaphor specifically. I only ask because you sir, are completely full of *****.

- jaynemother, on 01/23/2008, -7/+9Yet here Heath Ledger did something with his life and made millions of people happy. He also didn't die getting plastic surgery.
- ha1f, on 01/23/2008, -5/+9Kanye West's mom was a ***** teacher. Teachers > actors. Shut the ***** up.
She also didn't die eating a ***** load of pills.- IndigoMoss, on 01/23/2008, -1/+4I'm definitely going to have to agree with you on that one. When people die of intentional drug use when knowing all of the risks that involve it, but they still do it anyways, I don't really remorse that much, at least for the way they died.
It sucks that he died and he was a great actor and all, but he died because of his own stupidity. I'm not going to get sad over something like that, but it doesn't make him any less of the person he was.
If it was accidental from sort of medication he wasn't taking to get high, then I'm sorry for the above statements. - jroll8481, on 01/23/2008, -4/+3then maybe you should keep those comments to yourself until you find out more info.

- Jennefah, on 01/23/2008, -4/+0There's speculation that the pills were sleeping pills and that the overdose was an accident because he hadn't been sleeping well and the normal dosage of pills hadn't been working. I just thought I'd point that out before you imply he's a junkie.
Either way stop arguing over which death is worse, it's crappy when ANYONE dies. :/

Thanks for setting the record straight. Yes I heard there were pills involved, but you have no ***** clue what really happened. Furthermore, if he had overdosed, you have absolutely no idea if it was purposeful or accidental, and you have absolutely no right to say anyone "voided his right to have a respectable death." If it were purposeful, do you know what was going on in his head? Do you know what his life was like? Do you know if he had any problems? NO, you don't know a single thing. You know nothing. So ridiculously ignorant and shallow you are.

- MindTrigger, on 01/22/2008, -23/+801My thoughts exactly. I don't often give much a ***** about celebrities, but he wasn't your standard Hollywood retard, IMO. I found myself saying "Oh No...." out loud when I saw it. RIP.
- MasterPlayer, on 01/22/2008, -5/+109The first thing I said to myself when I read this was "holy *****..." I personally thought he was a great actor and was probably one of the best of our time. RIP - etruscan, on 01/23/2008, -1/+8I'll admit, I wasn't a big fan of Heath Ledger until I saw A Knight's Tale, and then I thought he was brilliant. I had initial misgivings over his casting as the Joker, preferring Paul Bettany for the role... but I was (and remain) excited to see what he could do with it. I'm sad he's gone. He's one of those actors that doesn't typify the "hollywood" image... seemed very down to Earth. His passing reminds me of River Pheonix. Why do the good ones go?
- sneezachoo, on 01/23/2008, -0/+1Funny how Paul Bettany is also in A Knight's Tale, was he being considered for the role of the joker?

Must have been good to win an award for it. But the guy was in A Knight's Tale. I mean, come on... I know it wasn't nearly as bad as Paul Walker's classic film, Fast and Furious, but it was up there. - stackered, on 01/22/2008, -61/+238Am I a bad person for not caring about his death as much as the Joker's possible absence in the third Batman movie? And don't answer yes, because most of you are thinking the same thing.
- mywhitenoise, on 01/22/2008, -5/+52Yeah, i'm definitely bummed that he died at such a young age, but i'm pretty bummed for the selfish reason of wanting him to return for the third movie.
- gernblansted, on 01/22/2008, -3/+8You know that answer :-)
BUT as long as you brought it up, was his character supposed to span two movies? That would be a blow to the movies. Otherwise, since The Dark Knight is in post production, that one probably won't be affected. - iiBeLiEvE, on 01/22/2008, -1/+5Thought the same thing =
- nunyabuizness, on 01/22/2008, -2/+1i totally agree
from what i remember (dont hold it against me, it was in wikipedia) the comics involve the joker at his trial and harvey dent becoming twoface and in the comics, the joker lasted
but from the way all superhero movies are going, they probably already killed the joker off - cawpin, on 01/22/2008, -14/+3"Am I a bad person for not caring about his death as much as the Joker's possible absence in the third Batman movie?"

The likely(legal) answer should be no. So how can you presume he was bad for the role? Just by the previews I'd say he looked pretty good.- SlalomMan, on 01/23/2008, -0/+2He didn't say that. - naughtymonkey69, on 01/22/2008, -2/+61The Joker's character is based on his first two appearances in the comic books, as well as his portrayal in the graphic novel "The Killing Joke." To prepare for the role, Heath Ledger lived alone in a hotel room for a month researching the character and developing his performance, which he claims is based upon Sid Vicious and the character of Alex in A Clockwork Orange (1971). Ledger found the role extremely difficult, and suffered insomnia as a result.

"wtf" is a crude, more blunt, common folk/ill mannered idiot way of putting it. To say "What the [any word]" doesn't make sense. Why ask "What is going on?" when it is placed clearly in front of you and you already know the answer? It is a slang term which is unintelligent.
Is this too "hard" for you to figure out? I'm sure I'll get sunk for this, this is Digg. But I unlike you and many others intend on developing intellect. It isn't that I can not understand where you are coming from. I can, and I see something stupid. Rather your opinion of it being obvious that "Wow!" would get sunk and "wtf?" would be dugg is a stupid notion as there are clearly justifiable reasons someone would wonder why people would support something so illogical.

" ….as often happens when he throws himself into a part, he is not sleeping much.
“Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,” he said. “I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.” One night he took an Ambien, which failed to work. He took a second one and fell into a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing.
Even as he spoke, Mr. Ledger was hard-pressed to keep still. He got up and poured more coffee. He stepped outside into the courtyard and smoked a cigarette. He shook his hair out from under its hood, put a rubber band around it, took out the rubber band, put on a hat, took off the hat, put the hood back up. He went outside and had another cigarette. Polite and charming, he nonetheless gave off the sense that the last thing he wanted to do was delve deep into himself for public consumption. “It can be a little distressing to have to overintellectualize yourself,” is how he put it, a little apologetically."
It really could have been accidental overdose instead of a suicide. It was obvious he was under a lot of stress, not sleeping at all. It's plausible that he could have taken a few pills to try and sleep but when that didn't work, take a few more. He could have forgotten how many he's taken and eventually overdosed. But for now, I think it's best to withhold our speculation until more news comes out.- azwethinkweizm, on 01/23/2008, -22/+3Ron Paul did it

Where is the accountability? Where is the sense of responsibility? We all hear news of these celebrities that live their lives completely unfettered and un-inhibited and glorify them for it. Nobody is there to rein them in when they're being an idiot. Nobody pulls them up when they are feeling self-absorbed and doing stupid things. No wonder we hear of this "celebrity overindulgence" so often.
I feel partly responsible for lives like this that shouldn't be wasted. I read the tabloids just like everybody else. I go to his movies and read about his high-flying lifestyle, just like everybody else. Am I supporting celebrities when they behave like they do? Probably. My money keeps these guys in the lifestyle they're in. So, I feel responsible.
Wake up, Hollywood! You glorify and deify a lifestyle that should not be lived up to. Linsday, Paris, Britney...going down the same path that Chris Farley, River Phoenix, Kurt Cobain all did...and going back further, James Dean, Errol Flynn...and 10 years from now, it'll be new people. You need to surround yourself with people who love you, and will tell you you're acting like a fool. You need some accountability.
Heath's death is terrible....and needless. But who will fill in the blank in the coming years? _________'s death was terrible, but needless.- popfrogs, on 01/22/2008, -0/+3Hollywood never glorified actor's lifestyles, but shameless whoring media outlets like TMZ sure do. - pictureDIGGER, on 01/23/2008, -0/+1You are obviously not a real Ron Paul supporter. Sadly, digg is falling for these fake supporters.
- StevenJV, on 01/22/2008, -2/+3Didn't he have bouts of depression before and put himself into therapy after thoughts of suicide? maybe i'm thinking of someone else.
- moin1097, on 01/22/2008, -5/+15In hollywierd, that could be anybody.
- MeatyVitamin, on 01/23/2008, -6/+1As if you just put Hollywierd...
- Bamborzled, on 01/23/2008, -4/+3lol, "Hollywierd". You're like, so funny and cutting-edge. It's so sad that only 11 dumbasses dugg you up (oh, sorry, make that 10) for using cliched catchphrases like that.
- moin1097, on 01/23/2008, -4/+4And now you're down to zero. What did you learn?
- Negyxo, on 01/22/2008, -0/+19you might be thinking of Owen Wilson
- moin1097, on 01/22/2008, -5/+15In hollywierd, that could be anybody.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 01/23/2008, -15/+4Yes, it was unexpected.
But why does someone get 600 diggs for such an obvious comment? The moderation here is wack, and has no bearing on the thoughtfulness of the comment.
What is REALLY unexpected, is getting +600 by saying; "that was unexpected." I'm sure people can agree. But making this the most important comment in a week? Just don't believe your press Michael.
;-) - phavn, on 01/23/2008, -1/+4It always is
- Xcel, on 01/23/2008, -11/+5He was an absolutely amazing and talented actor.. but I can't help to think that what he did was SUCH a SELFISH act. He has a daughter that will never remember her father. The least he could have done is thought about THAT. Selfish act IMO.
- treedude, on 01/23/2008, -0/+3While I agree that suicide is selfish. When your the one who is suicidal, you don't think it is. You convince yourself that everyone else would be better off, and it is very hard to be convinced otherwise. This is why depression needs to be treated by something other than a pill.
Also, they are not sure it was suicide yet.

- Namco, on 01/22/2008, -8/+7They'll say he died of a broken back.
- yfguitarist, on 01/22/2008, -1/+10Nice preemptive attack against Christians, already using his death as a platform to bash people that haven't even said what you claim. I don't know any fellow Christians that believe that. RIP.

Darwin awards should include people who voluntarily kill themselves with known poisons.
(also, pot is harmless, legalize it)- STKD, on 01/22/2008, -0/+7Killing idiots like you is also relatively harmless, we should legalise that.
- solistus, on 01/23/2008, -0/+5It's kind of scary that you define conditions under which others can lose the right to sympathy at their death.

- MyNamesTaken, on 01/22/2008, -3/+8I am gutted. he was an amazing rising talent. brilliant in brokeback mountain and exceptional in a film called Candy. Candy was about him and his girlfriend being addicted to hard drugs, one of the few movies that have made me cry.
- rarson, on 01/23/2008, -1/+1Brokeback Mountain sucked, but that had nothing to do with him. He was good in that movie.
I always thought he was a pretty good actor... definitely someone I looked forward to in future movies. I can't wait to see The Dark Knight, but it will be on a sad note, now.

Definitely one of the best and the rising actor in the business...
My heart goes out to his wife and 2 year old daughter.- onetruetweedle, on 01/22/2008, -75/+20He ain't got a wife - just an ex-fiancee. Pretty sure that the daughter is better off without a father on heroin.
- boxlight, on 01/22/2008, -22/+6> Pretty sure that the daughter is better off without a father on heroin.
I don't mean to be insensitive, but what's the deal on some people who have everything at their fingertips, money, fame, talent ... and all he wants to do on a lazy Tuesday afternoon is SHOOT HEROINE?? Honestly, that is so so so sad.
(If it was actually heroine; the jury is still out.)- elint6, on 01/22/2008, -3/+8Heroin is addictive.
- CrackEdd, on 01/22/2008, -5/+1Also, it must be quite good if so many people get into it.
- LordOfTheSponge, on 01/22/2008, -0/+7who the hell said anything about heroin?
- TomFrost, on 01/22/2008, -2/+5Shooting a heroine is murder. Shooting heroin is taking a drug.
- onetruetweedle, on 01/22/2008, -0/+9The source that stated he was found with heroin has been pulled offline, thus we can only assume it was inaccurate. Apparently they are now saying he was found with sleeping pills:
http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/news/celebrit ... - mille716, on 01/22/2008, -0/+19Really, where do you get off just suggesting he's some *****, heroin father? Where the ***** did it even suggest he uses heroin? If you're going to be a dick about his death and family's tragedy, at least wait till you know the facts.
- topgigmedia, on 01/22/2008, -0/+11prescribed sleeping pills were found near his bed - not heroin - get your facts straight before you make retarded comments.
- boxlight, on 01/22/2008, -22/+6> Pretty sure that the daughter is better off without a father on heroin.
- boxlight, on 01/22/2008, -5/+117Weird that they all seem to die at about that age. Cobain, Joplin, Hendrix, Jim Morrison and even River Phoenix and Chris Farley were all 27-28, no?
- mescad, on 01/22/2008, -0/+76River Phoenix was 23. Farley was 33.
The other four were all 27 though.- BedPost, on 01/23/2008, -0/+12We miss you big guy :(

...he is beginning to suspect something... - usrlocalbin, on 01/22/2008, -25/+10Um....How can you group Ledger with Cobain, Joplin, Hendrix, and Morrison??
I think they all just rolled over in their graves.
He's not that good of an actor...- thejwac, on 01/22/2008, -3/+4Haven't you seen "Ten Things I Hate About You"? He was a revelation in that movie. How can you not love it when he sings "I Love You Baby".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIW7WXPb-dc - mille716, on 01/22/2008, -1/+4Right, they only give out those oscar nods to so-so actors. Say what you will about him he was one of the few young actors today that was truly great. We didn't need to him to die to say that either.
- stillmitch, on 01/23/2008, -2/+3I agree with usrlocalbin. It's terrible that he's dead and I do feel sorry for his family, but as an actor, he's just barely above average. Besides one or two roles, the majority of his work was mediocre. Anyone remember "A Knight's Tale?" He got paid to be handsome and spit out his lines.
I won't deny that he had potential to be a great, and I'm looking forward to seeing him in the new Batman. But as it stands, he was nowhere near as revolutionary in his field as the other names you listed.- cococooky, on 01/23/2008, -1/+2You should watch 2 Hands and Monsters Ball. He was great in both of them. Can't comment on Brokeback Mountain as I haven't seen it, but he did get nominated for an Oscar for it.
- rarson, on 01/23/2008, -1/+1Sorry, Heath Ledger was awesome. If he didn't have a truly great role, that's only because he wasn't given one yet.
- thejwac, on 01/22/2008, -3/+4Haven't you seen "Ten Things I Hate About You"? He was a revelation in that movie. How can you not love it when he sings "I Love You Baby".
