      and 33B? Good Luck finding that in stores. I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist unless the bra is custom made.

      It seems that most of these measurements are made up.
      Many of these celebrities are listed as having non-existing bra measurements like 33B, 35B or 37D.
      The creator of this list doesn't seem to understand how bra sizing works.
      Big boobs means a larger cup size, not a larger underband (a larger underband means a 'larger' woman) – a 32 D is larger than a 36 B etc. (the chest may look a similar size but there is more boob and less ribcage on the 32 D)

      There is a comprehensive wiki page about bras for anyone here who actually wants learn how to gauge bra sizes properly.

      To get a bra measurement you measure around your ribcage, where the bra band would sit, and add 5 inches - if you're an odd number the recommendation is to add another inch. This is your band size. Then you measure around the fullest part of the breast. You take this number and subtract the band size. If the difference is 1 inch, you have an A cup, 2=B, 3=C etc.

      The difference between a 34C bra and 36A bra is 2 more inches of band (while stretched) and the cups on the 34C will be closer together. To judge a woman's cup size, you can't just look at the amount of breast, but the ratio of breast to ribcage. Basically meaning, a 36B is more of a handful than a 34C.

    Measure around rib cage just under breasts. This is the band size
    Measure around breasts at fullest point.
    Cup size is found by subtracting the rib cage measure from the breast measure. 1in = A, 2in=B, 3=C, 4=D, 5=DD(E), 6=DDD(F).

      You determine the back size (band size/underband size) by measuring just beneath the breasts and then adding 4 inches to an even number or 5 inches to an odd number.
      So if the underband measurement is between 27 and 28 inches the bra size would be 32.

      I have just noticed that the wikipedia entry for this is incorrect and states that you should add 6 inches to an even number instead of 4. Site like 85b.org, Figleaves and many others have the correct system.

      Women shouldn't be "measured". They should try on different sizes until they find something that fits properly i.e. no spillage over the edge of the cup and that they fit into it snugly with the centre part flat against their breast bone.

      it does work like that.
      My comment didn't suggest that ALL bras will fit you when you find your magic size but that IS how bra sizes are determined ("bra sizes" as in the labels in the bra as opposed to "fit").
      Bra manufacturers – as with any garment manufacturers – use their own measurements and patterns for their products so the final fit is bound to vary.
      You are correct to suggest that trial and error will help find a perfect fit but it is not exactly guess-work.
      A woman could have a bra that fits as you described (no spillage, centre-front against the breast bone) but rides up at the back – so measurements do help find a starting point.

    One of the entries had someone at 38D. Since when has their chest measurement (under breasts round body) going be larger than a fat Male's waistline? Their chest measurement is rarely going to be much larger than their waist measurement.

    The majority of women wear the wrong bra size anyway. They need to increase their cup size and decrease their back size accordingly. It's a common misconception and the reason why most women aren't comfortable in their undergarments.

    Dugg down for inaccuracy.
    • hyukhyuk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Well, despite the "formula" being useless, you should understand that a 38D means the measurement under the breast could be as low as 33 inches and no higher than 34 inches – which is hardly unusual for an average adult female.
      Though less common, bra sizes can reach up to 56 underband (51-52 inch ribcage).

      You are right to suggest that this list in inaccurate but not for the reasons you use.
    • SVPirate, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Excuse me, since when has a 38" waisy been FAT? I'm nearly 6ft tall and only just over my average BMI and wear 38" waist jeans. I'm not slim by any stretch but I wouldn't say 38" waist is FAT, just 'large'. 42" on th other hand is getting on that way...

      Also I dunno if you noticfed but the bit around the underside of your chest is usually larger than your waist, ergo it's hardly surprising.

      I'm 6'1" and would LOVE to be able to fit into a pair of 38 waist jeans. I've been dieting for six months, and I've come down from a 48" to a 44" with more to go - I doubt even at my ideal weight I'd be able to get back into 38" jeans. Some people are just built wide - it doesn't mean they're fat, just that there are all kinds of body types and shapes, and what may be "fat jeans" for someone like you may be "normal jeans" for someone like me.

I'm 40 pounds heavier than that now, but my waist is still at 40" (not all the weight gain is fat I guess). People have different frames and put of weight differently (ever see the guys with a small waist and a huge beer gut hanging over his belt?). If I got down to my "ideal" weight of 180 (I prefer about 205 though), my waist would still be between 36"-38."

    I don't care how much you think you know about breasts, saying that Courtney Cox is "NO 34C" when you aren't holding one of her bras (or her breasts) is useless - you might think they don't look like 34Cs, but you don't actually know whether they are or not.

      your right to a point but you can reasonably make assumptions that something is in correct. If i said Courtney Cox was a 36D or 36DD, would you still have the same reply? It's very obvious she's not a 36C, especially when you compare her boobs to other actresses that they list.

      Yes, because I said "accurately gauge". Saying that Keira Knightley doesn't have DDs is not accurately gauging what she does have, and same with Courtney!

      Ah, but for that to be a relevant point, you would have to have confidence that all the other boobs have been sized accurately, which I don't. As for that "obvious", well, I would say that it isn't "obvious" to me that Courtney Cox isn't a 36C at all. The range of breast cup sizes that get fitted into C cups is enormous, and unless you have the real, 3D, breasts in front of you, you won't really know if she's C or not.

      Tellingly, the MrBra site, that "Guess the Bra Size" flash game, and all other mentions I could find of Courtney's size ALL say that her cup size is "C". If it is so "obvious" that she isn't a "C", then how did they all make the exact same mistake?

      No, no, no, I stressed that I wasn't saying any particular entry on the list was accurate or inaccurate. I was criticising the theory that you can accurately gauge bra sizes from a 2D photo, and therefore, I wouldn't say both are and I wouldn't say both aren't. I'd simply say the truth, which is that I am not (yet ... I am stalking both of 'em) in possession of the necessary facts to say one way or the other.
