“I saw this movie in a military Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) operated theater. As with all movies shown on a military base, before the film begins, our National Anthem is played…I’d offer that up to my civilian movie enthusiast peers as something to think about and to ponder: should we do the same thing at civilian run movie theaters?”
Interesting. I did not know that. Seems a little too close to an authoritarian state, however. Should everything we do be preceded by a tribute to our country? Probably not, but for the new Star Trek movie I think this should be played beforehand: http://picard.ytmnd.com/
Come on, click it. You know you want to! - Kragnerac, on 04/15/2009, -1/+10Where's Simon Pegg? :(
- psion01, on 04/15/2009, -0/+7Personally, I'd prefer a reading of sections of the Constitution.
- DLun203, on 04/15/2009, -1/+7'Harold and Kumar' - Where are they now?
Kal Penn is on his way to being a liaison for the Obama Administration and John Cho is in Kuwait promoting his [bound to be a summer blockbuster hit] movie, 'Star Trek.' I'd say they are doing pretty well for themselves. - ryan83189, on 04/15/2009, -0/+6You call it a warning, I call it a scavenger hunt.

No. No we ***** shouldn't. Since this isn't Nazi Germany and worshiping our country is just the fast track to fascism. I'm amazed those guys think it's a good idea. - rings035, on 04/15/2009, -1/+4Pretty sure all of the captions are just jokes
- inactive, on 04/15/2009, -1/+4Oh, by no means do I think it's wrong to play the National Anthem. Don't get me wrong there.
The article seems to propse playing the song before every show, and my point were if this were to become some kind of policy in movie theatres, it would be very Pravda.
I certainly agree with you, if a proprietor of a theatre decided to do something like that, he'd have every right. I wouldn't go there because it's ***** weird, but he has every right to do it. They could also make us pause for a moment of prayer to baby Jesus before each show, and again, they'd have EVERY right to do it as a private business, I just wouldn't give them my business. - Hardataq, on 04/15/2009, -0/+3Madea goes to Kuwait!
- jeexbit, on 04/15/2009, -1/+4Yes, let's also say the pledge of allegiance before every sporting event, every concert, every time we have sex and every time we get off the bus.
- GreenMushroom16, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2Harold is off to get space burgers
- zombiecarlin, on 04/15/2009, -1/+31st picture, the dude to the right of Eric Bana looks very like Simon Pegg, one of the few cast members not there, weird.
- divinediva, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2Cool! The only movie I ever stood in line for was the first Star Trek.
I had the movie poster too... I wish I still had it, it's probably worth a fortune. - pintocat, on 04/15/2009, -1/+3It's going to be hard to see past Sylar to Spock. And Harold will look so lonely and frightened without Kumar to back him up :'(
- entrophize, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2At first I was like, "Whoah! They finally figured out atomic reassembly!"
Then I was like, "Oh nevermind. No one got beamed anywhere."
...and I got sad. - KingGorilla, on 04/16/2009, -0/+2I consider them my second family
- Hockey13, on 04/15/2009, -1/+3If the proprietor of a cinema would like to start playing the national anthem prior to shows, I would fully support his right to do so, but I would not go to that cinema because I'd rather not waste my time on useless patriotism. There is nothing to be gained from an arbitrary display of loyalty except for the authoritarian desire to display loyalty. Something tells me, given the abundance of competition in the cinema industry, that said proprietor would not last very long with this tactic.
- techobo, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2Don't you mean in the "Top 10 Summer Movies Guaranteed to Bomb" submission?
I figure I'd mention that before some poor MF fanboy spends the rest of his life looking for the pic. - kesin, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2They do this in India, the largest democracy in the world :x
but no we shouldn't be singing the national anthem before every 2 hour stretch of entertainment we come across/ - KingKeys, on 04/15/2009, -1/+3No Pegg, no party!
- zombiecarlin, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1See comment directly below yours :P
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 04/15/2009, -1/+2Warning: NSFW pic of Megan Fox in there.
- cnldelta, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1India had strong political influence from Russia during its formative years (pre-90s at least) hence more nationalistic and communist 'systems' are in place even though India is a democratic country.
- JediPrime, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1Having a hand on Zoe Saldana's hip can bring a smile to almost any man's face.
- inactive, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1I'll admit that I've never been a big fan of the show, but I'm actually excited to see the movie.
- inactive, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1That's so weird, I thought the exact same thing
- Narcism, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1Ensign is not coming back...
- inactive, on 04/15/2009, -1/+2Ahhh. So I'm wrong unless it has something to do with the current President?
I love wingnuts, changing their story at every turn. - themastersb, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1If I ever saw Zachary Quinto in person I'd yell "Oh my god! It's Sylar!" and run away.
- Asianwaste, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1"Eric Bana thrills a fan by filling the empty seat next to her, unaware that he’s about to be asked to autograph a Trekkie corporal’s crotch-warmed Communicator."
That's Petty officer's crotch-warmed Communicator. The front guys are Navy. - bubba9999, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1good for JJ and company to do that. It may or may not have been for the publicity, but I think it's great that they did that.
- solecize, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1Osama bin Klingon- dugg
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 04/16/2009, -0/+1How the hell did I manage that? I did mean it to go in the Top 10 article.
- GiJoeBob, on 04/15/2009, -1/+1I used to watch movies at an Air Force base with a friend that was in the service. I actually enjoyed the anthem being played before the show.
- SpectralSounds, on 04/15/2009, -3/+2"Zachary “Spock” Quinto excuses himself to phone in his votes for American Idol’s goth-glam frontrunner Adam Lambert."
Now we know that Zachary isn't a method actor, because anybody who has an ounce of intelligence wouldn't watch that garbage. - AngelsAndDemons, on 04/15/2009, -0/+0Can't wait for the movie. The trailers look great!!!
- Fantomfreq, on 04/15/2009, -1/+1@michaelrizzo, nope. I'm simply commenting on the new trend where it's suddenly 'cool' to buy all sorts of Obama crap. Simply buying a t-shirt is to being a patriot as buying a car magnet is to supporting our troops.
- Hartz2800, on 04/16/2009, -1/+0That ytmnd was funny 2 years ago.
- PixelMagic, on 04/15/2009, -4/+1Picard is not in this movie n00b. TOS bitches! :p
- Fantomfreq, on 04/15/2009, -5/+1Are you serious? Having some patriotism is considered worshiping our country? Sure, we're not perfect. We're pretty far from it in fact. However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having some pride in your nation. I'm not talking about buying a stupid ***** Obama t-shirt either.
