- Jonjonjonny, on 07/07/2008, -0/+30Being quite a glum soul myself, I was quite inquisitive to see who I share my miserable demeanour with. Cool list, despite the murderers/homicidal maniacs, suicide victims, a kleptomaniac, penis chopping wife and Elton John.
- ShaggyRogers, on 07/07/2008, -3/+30In middle school I was "diagnosed" as depressed, when it was more like not knowing how to handle typical teenage problems. Haven't taken medicine for it in years and I've been better than ever. "Famous" is being used here loosely, and I suspect "depression" is as well.
- aeck, on 07/07/2008, -0/+27Hitler? Seng-Hu Choi? Mark Chapman? I think they had worse problems than a bout of depression. And what is the criteria they used? Have all of them been diagnosed by a physician, or just said in an interview "I got depressed when I gave my dog away"?
- nakedpug, on 07/07/2008, -3/+26Barbara Bush! Poor woman, she has a lot to be depressed about.
- dha07030, on 07/07/2008, -1/+22The term famous is being used very loosely here.

- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -1/+13Really? That's the best they can do? Statistics show that upwards of 70% of people suffer from 'marked' depression at least one point in their lives. So they add a Lorena Bobbit photo to the list and that's it?
You could probably add the majority of actors and musicians to this list; artists are proved to be even more affected by depression than the average person. So that might speak as to why it's so prevalent in 'famous' (I use that term lightly as it is used in this list) people. - AutoTom, on 07/08/2008, -1/+11Nice to know you're not alone out there with depression..
- pauliephonic, on 07/08/2008, -0/+8"Whoa is me", that's what Bill and Ted would say if they were depressed.
Woeful spelling there, dude :) - goodinohio, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6If you don't know the difference between bummed and clinically depressed STFU.
- XxtraLarGe, on 07/08/2008, -1/+7Kris Kristofferson is probably depressed because the movie they attributed to him was "Big Top Pee Wee"
- kd420, on 07/08/2008, -1/+7I think everyone goes through "depression" in their lifetime, if they define it so loosely. I would guess almost every celebrity who got fed up with the limelight could say they were "depressed" at some point. Come to think of it, this article is making me more depressed just thinking about how mediocre depression is. jk :)
- omyard, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6Kurt Cobain didn't commit suicide. He was murdered by Courtney Love.
- DeadSkinMask, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6I realize that "Money doesn't buy happiness", but I'd sure like to give it a try someday...
- nynety, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6It's "woe is me".
- Seph7, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5I know its just alphabetical but I love how the list goes Paris Hilton and then Adolph Hitler.
- TheMachine1, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5Killing yourself because Russian tanks are blocks away is more about fear than depression.
- FulcrumVitesse, on 07/08/2008, -1/+5I find it hard to believe that airhead Paris Hilton "struggles with depression". Maybe she had a bad hair day once, but that is *not* depression.
- IAmTheGuy, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Jane Goodall was depressed? No way. Maybe this has something to do with the fact that she spent more of her life surrounded by chimps than humans.
- dizilbdog, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Drew Carrey he definetly smokes marijuana for his depression. He's for medical marijuana big time. I agree it has helped my depression lots better than prozac, cymbalta, clonazapan lorazepan provigil adderall, thank you earth for creating it.
- bosssmiley, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Anyone else feel like the article was SHOUTING at them?
- o0joshua0o, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4They really need to clarify if they're talking about CLINICAL depression, or just feeling sad. There is a huge difference.
- Pusod, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4They missed a big one Pablo Picasso... *coughs* blue period.
- shutupjoey, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Good idea, let's give the notion that shooting up a school or assassinating a rock legend makes you "famous", depressed or not.
This list should have been thinned out a bit. - Sucilaria, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Though I agree that the authors of this article are using the term loosely, it's good to show that depression is sooooo common. The sad part is how much of a stigma still exists - I'd love to see some of these current actors/actresses who have overcome or learned to manage the disease share their experiences.
- 955701, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4I would place Meriwether Lewis of the Lewis and Clarke Expedition at the top of this list. This guy was sitting on the continental divide North America on his 35th birthday reflecting on how very little he had accomplished in his life.
*That* is the definition of negativity.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meriwether_Lewis - DeadFox1, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4I'm sorry, but why is that murdering kid- Seung-Hui Cho, on this "famous" list?
- mwmccullough, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3You know, with a list like this, I'm even more depressed now than before.
- avatarpalin, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3Interesting point, although i found it strangely soothing to see these people , some brilliant, some...not. All suffering from depression. There are moments with the intangible seem a little more real, going through that site was one of them...
..and lets face it, it's a refreshing change from Tech bias bashing, and cats in a sink. - 0Xonox0, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3So next time you're feeling down, remember that there are plenty of rich and famous people who are just as miserable as you.
- EpicSelekta, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4Delta Burke is depressed because people constantly confuse her for an extraterrestrial
- erossmu, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3I guess I don't quite understand the point of showing pictures of people, and in one line explaining a few reasons why they're "famous" and that's it.
I don't care if famous people get depressed, I am much more interested in why they were depressed. Obviously the author knew they were depressed, did he not have any other information besides that? - musicmanryan, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3There are several people on that list who could've been replaced by Ludwig van Beethoven. I know I am a big music nerd, but he was far more influential than some dude from General Hospital.
- blackjack75, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2When I feel like shooting myself I think about all the famous people who want to do the same and I come to the conclusion that nobody will notice me if they do it at the same it. This kept me alive for over 30 years !
- DeadSociety, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2What I was implying was that Mark Chapman used to say he only killed John Lennon so he could achieve a level of fame (or infamy) and this article is granting him that fame.
As for the Hitler edit, I don't know what I meant really. I am fully aware fame is not necessarily related to popularity. - DrunkenDigger, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2stupid, no substance, half of those people are more than 'depressed'. buried as lame.
- Eoxx, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3Halle Berry ... I'm ready to help you anytime you want !!! When you feel blue ... call me ! my number is 032....
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3"Oh, whoa is me" is not a clinical diagnosis of depression, which is probably the case with a large majority of these people.
- statsman1982, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2I'm paraphrasing here, but there is a saying: "Money can't buy happiness, but it allows you to choose your misery."
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2infamous = famous
- avatarpalin, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2What a strange motley selection of people sharing the same ailment.
..And at the bottom of the page and ad with hot chicks - crescentfreshld, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2My, what a pointless list.
- nynety, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Maybe you should shoot them. Then, at least you'll get noticed.
- StanleyKoolPrik, on 07/08/2008, -5/+7Yeah, maybe you're like these 135 celebrities..but you're probably like the 135 million others who actually ended up killing themselves. Have fun.
- hollywoodphony, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2"Many of the people on this list had everything they could possibly want" - Doesn't really describe a lot of the people on this list.
- crestfall, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3Tatum O'Neal
"Child actress, adult drug abuser"
HARSH
Also, I've always thought Christina Ricci is one of the sexiest things ever, but why does knowing about her depression make her sexier?
"Awww.. we have something in common." - Duositex, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2I'm sure being on this list will help them out heaps.
- XxtraLarGe, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2For many people, that's exactly why they're depressed. They've discovered that fame, fortune & material goods don't bring the happiness they were expecting.
- Jektal, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1If you agree, click on that Reply button.
- musicmanryan, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Did anyone notice how many POTUS' were on that list?! I thought that was pretty messed up.
