- psychosatori, on 12/03/2008, -2/+68What "attracks" a click? Apparently horrendous spelling...
- JeffNothing, on 12/03/2008, -1/+25Most of the adds I click on are when i tap the touch pad by accident.
- redwolfwalker, on 12/03/2008, -0/+16damn digg dyslexia ....read that as what attracts a chick and then I clicked
- WildNelson, on 12/03/2008, -0/+13This cracks me up, FTA - “how do we combine creative energy, which is a manual and sort of qualitative exercise, with the raw processing power of computing, which is all about quantitative data?”
That's totally something some manager ***** would say. Vague but impressive-sounding, and ultimately completely useless. - billflu, on 12/04/2008, -1/+14. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . _________

Oh wait, I thought you said "chick" - deadbaby, on 12/03/2008, -1/+5I must admit, just because I truly hate banner ads, before AdBlock Plus if I saw an ad for a product that looked interesting I would actually open a new browser window and goto the URL without the refer link just to avoid getting that click counted. Not that this happened very often of course since most web advertising is awful but maybe a few times in the span of 5 or 6 years.
- mugicha, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4I tend to click on ads with hot chicks in them. I know, it's stupid but I can't help it.
- smurfz, on 12/03/2008, -4/+7Interesting o_O
- theHM, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3That's the first use of Admiral Ackbar that ever attracted me to click the green thumb.
- jessehadden, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3I block Flash ads (& any other Flash movie I don't explicitly turn on), because they're a nuisance, tend to be very intrusive, and they eat up my CPU cycles like they were candy. I don't block things like Google Adsense, because they're reasonable, they support the sites I visit, and sometimes I notice something I want to click on. What attracts a click is relevancy. Show me something I want, and I will happily click through to it. Throw a barrier up between me and the content, and I will simply install a method to remove that barrier permanently.
- taketheleap, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3this article is horrible. i work in advertising and let me assure you, there is no "magic formula" and any company telling you differently is simply a snake oil salesman.
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3It attracked me to click it too.
- JDex, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Accidental clicks. It's the only answer that anyone I've polled on the subject (couple hundred friends, family, coworkers) responded with. Scientific, up-to-scrutiny, poll... Nope. Accurate sampling of many people from different demographics, probably.
Most of the non-computer savvy people said they fear an endless popup or getting spyware.
Most of the savvy peeps laughed, because they all use ad-blockers or have just learned to tune them out. - jmbillings, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2well said.
I rely on Google ads on my sites to bring in a little extra income. The more people that block them, the lower my income goes. In these times, I may just have to can the site altogether if I can't afford it. Shame, as I have had thousands of downloads of my resources that people obviously find useful.
On the other hand - popups and flash movies and stuff are horrendously annoying and deserve to be chucked in the bin. Worst offenders are those little "mini dialogs" that appear over the page you want to read. The likes of autotrader and parkers (useful UK car sites) have these, often from major manufacturers such as SEAT, but until the damn thing finishes loading you can't even close it! - flashdesigner84, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3Agrees with redwolfwalker, I thought that it said "what attracts a chick" and I clicked too!
- Bauer22, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3I know. You should see all the semi witty t-shirts I own because of them ads...
- zaii7, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1money!
problem solved - djenders, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1There is no magic formula, but I'm interested in the data...
While both companies are trying to further target ad units based on research, trying to make more appealing ads based on color or font will likely sacrifice some brand guideline.
And, although both companies are collecting data on how the ad performs, neither company seems to be taking in account the context in which the ad unit is displayed.
I dunno, just seems incomplete...
My full thoughts on it:
http://blog.jenders.com/2008/12/03/dynamic-online- ... - digghasnoethics, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1What ads?
- stklaw, on 12/04/2008, -1/+2Your head in Counter-Strike, apparently.
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1 And of course, the ad mongers who need to read what people have to say about their BS won't come here and do it. We are preaching to the choir here.
- Thater, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1What are you talking about?
- Todles, on 12/04/2008, -1/+2ditto
- shrapnel09, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1Hooked me!
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1 Trying to make an ad more appealing is no different than trying to polish a turd to make it more appealing. .
- MusicMagi, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1 Spellcheck much?
- Hedison, on 12/07/2008, -0/+1Reads like an article written by someone who has never tried to market online. A lot of theory
I didn't note any part of the article mentioning the importance of the other elements on the page. Or maybe they did mention it but I got bored before then

http://niche-traffic-sale.blogspot.com - kaosethema, on 12/08/2008, -0/+1What Attacks A Chick?
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1 No,there is not. And since most people despise ads in the first place...Thinking they can delude us into clicking on something we are not remotely interested in would be laughable if it weren't so pathetic.
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1Damn, someone beat me to it. Apparently it worked, although negative attention is sometimes less desirable than no attention at all.
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1 It is indeed. There is NOTHING they can say that will make me click on their stupid ads.
In over 15 years of using a computer,I've clicked on three ads and bought something once (a game).
Now I use ad block. Why should I be annoyed by their irritating begging? I have no interest
in buying anything they offer,,so I don't even want to see their gibberish.
And why is ad mongering garbage always hitting the front page here?
They are about as important as hemorrhoid creams.
Must be a lot of ad people who really think the deceptive BS they dish out year after year really works!!!!
Poor,delusional dudes. - Cl1mh4224rd, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1> "What 'attracks' a click? Apparently horrendous spelling..."
You know... I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that 95% of folks on the Internet never learned how to spell correctly, but now I see that even the Copy/Paste skill set is going extinct... - inactive, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1I like the idea, but don't solicit here.
- spiffyslayer, on 12/04/2008, -0/+0Apparently everything on Digg's front page.
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -1/+1 So,you think you click on an ad with a hot chick and said hot chick will come over to your place fer an evening of wooptie doo????
Yeah...Rigggght.... - Thater, on 12/04/2008, -2/+2How is that apparent? What are you talking about? This is infinitely confusing to me, I think you're insane.
- waynejohn, on 12/03/2008, -2/+2Good info!
- taketheleap, on 12/04/2008, -1/+1dude, that is the worst username... EVER.
- badradio, on 12/04/2008, -2/+2who diggs a sponsored NYT article? this is just an advertisement.
- Todles, on 12/04/2008, -1/+0naked chicks, apparently.
- chadell, on 12/03/2008, -3/+2relevant and timely info does it for me.
- mckeop25, on 12/05/2008, -2/+0Okay but you should check http://affiliate-webhost.com for money making ideas.
- algaeturd, on 12/04/2008, -5/+2That's the new meme for 'attack' clicks. It's like virtually attacking a button with your mouse clicks.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -8/+3"DIGG THIS"
- wavesmachine, on 12/04/2008, -7/+2Click here: http://tinyurl.com/37ws8e
- jreimer, on 12/04/2008, -6/+0Great submission. Here's something else that makes people click...
