- FirstDigg, on 11/13/2007, -1/+8I can believe this. I know I personally spent over $1200 myself just this past quarter. How much did you spend?
- inactive, on 11/13/2007, -1/+6Big fat $0. Been leeching off the neighbors...
- mrrob, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3a little more than that.
- inactive, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2Total speculation, just interested in what y'all have to say:
Is it about the Internet opening up new markets and opportunities, you think, or is the spending out of fear - i.e. "if I don't spend this money on online advertising someone else will and get the world's largest customer base?"
Re: fear as a motivator for spending on marketing - this extends to impressing your shareholders, too, even when you don't really have a strategy. - CCoe, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2....AdvertiSing
- Awspire, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2I have never been influenced by any online advertising, e-mail or website. I don't even have ad-block on, I just simply tune advertisements out. If I'm in the mood to spend some cash, I'll browse the big online stores and read up on comments i.e Newegg. More online stores should follow neweggs lead, though comments and product popularity don't always accurately gauge a products performance, since some people are just idiots. In the end, its a crap shoot,
- umbriago, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2Trouble is, 90% of it was REFINANCE YOUR MORTGAGE ads
- digidelia, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2you guys are confusing money spent on advertising vs. money spent on products
- inactive, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1Thanks to people ordering RAM from apple.com.
- Zippo, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1All thanks to the low American dollar :D
- jmpeagle, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1the article is not about purchases but about advertizing
- BD86, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1It is a lot easier to buy online plus there is practically a limitless selection so you always find what you are looking for.
- Beylan, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1The WGA strike may have something to do with it as well. The big ad firms know there isnt going to be anything on TV to buy advertising time on for the next few months, and convincing their clients to buy ads on the 'net is one way to keep those advertising dollars flowing in.
- jmpeagle, on 11/13/2007, -1/+2irrelevant to the article, the article is about advertising
- CCoe, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1It's spelled "Advertising"
- inactive, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1i came here to make the same comment. online ads are just white noise on the periphery of
the content i'm after (be it an article, an image, video etc) and easily disregarded.
there must be SOME percentage of web users who DO click on these ads for
them to hold this kind of value...or has the bubble just not yet burst? - RyeBrye, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1Adwords cost me 5.1 billion one quarter... so I can believe this.
- castevens, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1I did, however, answer the question being asked of me. . .
- BinaryDelt, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1As soon as that one guy figures out wormholes for CDW we'll be all set.
- Hayaemsay, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1Buried, FirstDigg, No one likes power diggers.
- green1, on 11/13/2007, -0/+0This is great news for online publishers (like Digg)...
Higher CPMs + More Marketers Putting Money Into Online Mediums = We can sell our company for even greater valuations to Rupert Murdoch! - bcmcse11, on 11/13/2007, -0/+0The internet's here to stay... thanks, Al Gore.
- bigthree, on 12/03/2007, -1/+1just easier to get stuff online than deal with stores
- inactive, on 11/13/2007, -0/+0i spent $0...
- inactive, on 11/13/2007, -0/+0dudes...
- jmpeagle, on 11/13/2007, -2/+1you sepent 1200 on advertizing?
- castevens, on 11/13/2007, -2/+1Most of the stuff I buy nowadays I look for in stores (like best buy) and I go online to find a better price and order on the internet. So in the end, I spend a TON of money on the internet. But unlike some people, I still buy all of my clothes in person
