- FOR3MAN, on 10/10/2007, -11/+1981) Cool.com
PageRank: Unranked
Alexa: Over 350,000
This domain is simply parked.
2) Hot.com
A single page with nothing on it except a lame colored logo. The sky is the limit for a domain like this.
3) Porn.com
PageRank: Unranked
Alexa: Unranked
This one is parked too but has a cool design. I’m guessing it’s making decent money, but no where near what a domain of this weight can bring in. Any regular developed porn site attached to this domain could make the profits hit the roof.
4) Sexy.com
After being presented with a warning page of enter or exit, the only thing you see next is a parked page.
5) Alien.com / 6) Ufo.com
These two can be put in the same category. With all the talk about aliens and ufo’s, these domains can be instant success.
Instead, Alien.com is a 404 page!!
And Ufo.com just a parked page.
7) Toy.com
PageRank: 0
Alexa: Over 3 million
An amazing 3 letter domain! Yet just another parked page.
8 ) Pal.com
Some sort of weird and unpopular search engine. Another great 3 letter domain put to waste.
9) Queen.com
Parked
10) Oral.com
Parked
11) Crazy.com
Parked. Could easily be used to feature all sorts of crazy videos or stories.
12) Pro.com
Wow! What can I say. A 403 forbidden! Some people would do anything just to have the word pro in front of another word in their domains, like proplayer or propoker…This person has the 3 letter by itself, and doing nothing!
13) Cash.com
PageRank: Unranked
Alexa: Over 2 million
Just parked.
14) Card.com
Parked for some credit cards. Could be used for a gambling site or a developed credit card site.
15) Super.com
Parked
16) Store.com
This thing could be something similar to eBay or Amazon, but it is just parked.
17) Cloth.com / 18) Clothing.com
Each of them could be the central location for anything related to clothing, but just parked.
19) Personal.com
A great domain for a dating site or personal resource information site, but parked.
20) Join.com
Parked
21) Fight.com
PageRank:1
Alexa: Over 1 million
Anything about boxing and UFC and mixed martial arts can be discussed here and it would easily be the #1 reference on the subject.
22) Gamble.com
PageRank: 3
Alexa: Over 8 million
Parked
23) Home.com / 24) House.com
One of them parked, the other one slightly developed. In the mortgage world, these domains can make more profit than anything else.
25) Dance.com
Parked.
26) Pay.com
Parked
27) Host.com
Parked. Can you find a better domain name for a hosting company?
28) Men.com
PageRank:3
Alexa: Over 250,000
Acquired for 1.3 million dollar and seems fully developed. However, a domain like this carries so much power that it is ridiculous it is not more popular.
29) Plan.com
PageRank:0
Alexa: Over 5 million
Parked
30) My.com
A 2 letter domain! Seems like an unsuccessful hosting company. This is the only 2 letter domain in this list, and man this is wasted. - Exploit, on 10/10/2007, -4/+108THIS is the MOST wasted domain
http://www.something.com/ - Cannon13, on 11/08/2007, -29/+123There should be a rule that you have to develop a site within a year, or you lose the domain. There aren't any good ones left, and it's only getting worse.
- WebberGuy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+57These domain owners are probably making a lot more than the writer of this article thinks they are with the parked pages.
- xTRUMANx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+52If I got to pick one for myself, I would take pro.com. You could make subdomains and have different sections, like php.pro.com or tennis.pro.com. It could be like a tutorial site or something of the sort. The possibilities are endless.
- Grassmunk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+45Cool.com. This guy is a retard and should be shot if he hasnt jumped off of a bridge by now.
from ZDnet in 2000: http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9595_22-519606.html
" Tim Lee was a senior in college five years ago when he registered the domain name Cool.com, almost on a lark. Friends scoffed, but Lee may be getting the last laugh: He says he recently got an offer for the name worth up to $38 million."
Further:
"It's tempting," Lee admitted. "But the opportunities for using such a brand for marketing and a long-term business strategy are a lot more compelling. Long term, we have an opportunity to really develop a global brand that is a force to be reckoned with."
This idiot coulda been a millionaire overnight. Instead he kept the domain and now its ***** parked. What a dumbass. - ICSU, on 10/10/2007, -4/+47Why? It's private property just like any other.
- xlcus, on 11/12/2007, -2/+43The Internet != The WWW
These domains could be in use for many other things. - WilliamDavis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+40"Here is the list in no specific order."
- OutThisLife, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31Wasted? No way. At least there's something!
- JoshuaH, on 11/12/2007, -1/+26He asked why it's not number one.
- M4tt3r, on 10/10/2007, -4/+26Can I come up with my own completely asinine ideas too? Yeah, let's regulate the internets! Let's say you have to be over 18, you have to have an IQ above 125, and you can't use any bad words, post any nude pictures / videos or any other type of file in existence. *****, let's just cut to the chase and turn it off, who really needs it. /obvious sarcasm
- antmandotws, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Quite the opposite, some people out there live on domain parking (As in, earning $XXXX per day DOING NOTHING) :(
- kipale, on 10/10/2007, -4/+23Wow, I can't believe they are wasting such awesome domains. Anyone who knows how to register a domain surely knows that those are worth a lot of money. If you are too damn lazy to build a website on www.porn.com then at least sell the domain for a million dollars omg.
- M4tt3r, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20So what's your point....it's their right, it's their property.
How about we get 51% of the people in your city to "take" your property to be used for a..... VA Hospital, and if you're against that, then you must be against helping veterans, right? /being sarcastic - psevium, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Not wasted, it's a special domain so people can use it for manuals, instructions etc (to make a link, type http://www.example.com)
Otherwise the owners would be rich as ***** from all the backlinks - hasansexy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18http://seoblackhat.com/2007/05/16/porncom-sells-for-95-million-in-cash/
"Porn.com Sells for $9.5 Million in Cash
Porn.com - the largest all cash deal ever for a domain" - Vimo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17reminds me of www.perdu.com (french for "lost")
It states
"Lost on the Internet? Don't panic, we'll help you
* you are here" - zizzy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17http://example.com/ (and .net and .org) is pretty wasted. Its entire purpose is to be an example. That's it.
- zxjams, on 10/10/2007, -1/+161 - Oh, hello! I'm Homestar Runner. ....line?
2 - "Welcome."
1 - WELCOME! ...line?
2 - "To."
1 - TO! ...line?
2 - "Homestarrunner dot com".
1 - Something dot com!
2 - Cut. - stacky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Elton? Is that you?
- evilknny9, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Thanks captain-obvious!
- Aupajo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Why do they do that? Say "no specific order" and THEN add completely pointless numbering?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Actually, 3 nights ago.
- thejokker, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13If you want to force people to develop web sites, than i want to force all my neighbors to build better houses with better kept yards so my property value will increase. Thats fair right?
- edesignweb, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16thanks, now that the page is down you'll get dugg back up. how ironic. it's like people becoming stars and all of sudden they have lots of friends.
- yaknowit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12yeah, wtf? people say it all the time ...
- M4tt3r, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I always thought "ing.com" was the best. fish.ing, cook.ing, carpet.ing, ...you get the point. The domains that end with a suffix are the most usable, in my opinion, even though other people don't like it, I think it's pretty creative.
- mrblue182, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11you forgot www.com - the ultimate in good domain name
- mojaam, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14"There aren't any good ones left"
IP addresses aren't so bad once we get used to them. - ehurstmvp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11"28) Men.com
PageRank:3
Alexa: Over 250,000
Acquired for 1.3 million dollar and seems fully developed. However, a domain like this carries so much power that it is ridiculous it is not more popular."
I dunno about that. I wouldnt be seen wondering what lies on the other side when I type in men.com. That could turn out very badly. - proficient, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Perhaps they are not wasted but are waiting for offers as profitable domains become harder to find.
- Bamborzled, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Not really. Some guy is using it as his private website that he apparently doesn't want people to see. A Google search reveals tons of results:
http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.something.com%2F&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
(warning: some links might be NSFW) - jupi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13what about a list for nice domains which aren't parked? so I could buy them and earn while picking my nose.
- TheWiseNoob, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11No, it is an energy efficient google.
- stacky, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Welcome to digg.
Hell, welcome to the internet. - TimmyU, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Considering that Porn.com recently sold for 9.5 million dollars, I'd hardly consider it wasted. Its just only useful to the owners (or former owners).
- ThE0eNiGmA, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10What, and no mention of the other obscene possibilities? "*****.ing comes to mind...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I agree. Very wasted. You could do the whole subdomain game with that one. buy.something.com, find.something.com, sell.something.com, learn.something.com, give.something.com, be.something.com, and the list can go on forever. I'm jealous.
- Zaggynl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9care do not, WASTED IT IS!
- jhshukla, on 10/10/2007, -7/+15umm.... that is not a domain.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -2/+9This makes a lot of sense, but unfortunately it will fly over a lot of heads.
- s1mph0ny, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Because they don't know how to use the UL tag.
- fragsta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7According to a whois, alien.com is owned by 20th Century Fox! Not surprising, but you think something about the film would be on it.
- NatieB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6It would be more like acquiring empty land in NYC and putting up billboards on it.
- WilliamDavis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I think so too. Not only that, but they're increasing in value and can still be sold later.
For it to be a good financial decision, the owners of those domains only need to be making more with the domain parking than they would make with the interest on the cash if they sold them. (or some other opportunity cost.) I'm certain they're doing that.
The author seems to have a narrow view, or just a limited knowledge on the subject. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7no...
- squiffyboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Odd that www.nothing.com has more content.
- tformed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Let's make pal.com into the most popular search engine there is. :)
- djm101, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Actually it'd be more like renting that empty land out for parking spaces, little effort - lots of money.
