Venue fee: $5.00
Convenience fee: $2.50
Generate / Print PDF ticket: $2.50
Total cost: $18.00
Alternatives? None.
When the fees cost more than the actual ticket price, I stop going. I wish more people would wake up and do the same. Maybe the recession / depression will have one positive impact by breaking TicketMaster when people can no longer afford the outrageous cost of concerts and sporting events. - chungmaster, on 02/11/2009, -0/+46well ***** that i'm gonna start pirating concerts now.
- super7vixen, on 02/09/2009, -2/+36This really looks like it's legitimizing the practice of scalping. Many "ticket brokers" as they call themselves feel that they are simply making a living by being on time, arguing it's no different from any other business. I ask you, how is it fair to make a 600% profit with disgustingly meritless ease at the expense of others? Shows sell out in minutes, but to resellers and not fans. I'm all for business, but I am principally opposed to this level of greed. With these types of leeches in the world, is it any surprise why our economy is taking a nosedive and pirating is thriving?
- sugarazor, on 02/11/2009, -0/+26Could someone explain to me why Ticketmaster continues to exist? In the age of the internet, venues/bands/promoters/etc. can sell tickets however they please. Ticketmaster is an outdated business that should just go away.
- willsani, on 02/10/2009, -0/+22Ticketmaster is the root of all evil!
- haydukeqc, on 02/09/2009, -0/+21Oh really! But seriously, this has anti-trust suits written all over it, no way it gets through unless...
but,
TR's ghost, Phish, and Springsteen will bust this trust! - anderzole, on 02/10/2009, -0/+21I sure hope Ticketmaster doesn't raise prices. I'm currently getting a great deal on bleacher seats for only $175!
- bossm4n, on 02/11/2009, -0/+21Ticketmaster already gets away with rape. They started a practice a year or so ago where they hold back tickets from events then auction them off. So in addition to having the monopoly on ticket sales for the event, they become ticket brokers and really stick it to consumers. The system is broken.
- stevieraveon, on 02/11/2009, -0/+17And everyone laughed at Pearl Jam in 1995 trying to fight against Ticketmaster. I remember seeing them at Soldier Field chanting "Ticketmaster sucks, Ticketmaster sucks".
- funkedup, on 02/10/2009, -0/+17Haha...your optimism amuses me.
- ajb2015, on 02/11/2009, -0/+15I just bought $20 concert tickets on live nation and they hit me with a $9 fee per ticket. that's almost 50% of the god damn ticket price. i don't know how they could go higher without people flipping out.
- FirstCuts, on 02/10/2009, -0/+14Because we already don't get completely destroyed by extra fees, etc? Geesh. I love being able to go to shows that aren't through Ticketmaster, just for the satisfaction of not paying $10 in imaginary costs.
- choopie911, on 02/11/2009, -0/+13Breaking! Ticketmaster meets with Live Nation to find ways to further ***** over the consumer.
This is the last thing we need, ***** them both. - Shuk, on 02/11/2009, -0/+12Convenience charge is not convenient!
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+11ticketmaster decent! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHA
- centran, on 02/11/2009, -0/+10but they claim the extra money they make is given to the artist.... something that doesn't happen with regular brokers.
yeah right! not only are they cheats but liars as well. - golhra, on 02/11/2009, -0/+10***** TICKETMASTER - they've always jacked up the prices with "convenience fees" and miscellaneous *****.
By at the door or from the venue if you can. - seinman, on 02/11/2009, -0/+10All the "box offices" at the venues near me are just Ticketmaster locations, so you get screwed going there, too.
- skellener, on 02/11/2009, -0/+10Not only should this merger be blocked, Ticketmaster should be broken up due to abuse of it's monopolistic practices that hurt consumers.
- noahco, on 02/11/2009, -0/+10This is ***** if they decide to go to an auction based system. I probably won't be going to many shows anymore if this ends up jacking up the price for tickets. I guess if someone else is willing to pay more for a ticket that's fine I just hope the extra money made on the ticket goes to whoever is putting on the show and not ticketmaster.
- fallingdamage, on 02/11/2009, -0/+9I remember a Pearl Jam concert I went to in portland years ago and about 1/2 way through their set, the band stopped just to take 10min to bash ticketmaster and blame them for destroying the concert experience.
- zenerdiode, on 02/11/2009, -1/+10Not to be an ass...
but this business model could be broken pretty easily if the fans just took a stand for once. Just don't buy the tickets and soon enough the bands and promoters are going to find alternative venues. - morcheeba, on 02/11/2009, -0/+9The problem with that is that usually there's only a few bands people really care about, and when they are in town, any price seems reasonable. There's no competition because, in this case, the bands aren't replaceable with others. It's a different scene in bars & smaller bands that haven't hit it big - there, the show is more about entertainment (e.g. let's go to a honky tonk bar and play pool and listen to whoever), so that's why you don't have ticketmaster ripping people off -- because in that case, audience members wouldn't stand for it.
This is a word I learned recently - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fungibility - ohplease, on 02/11/2009, -1/+9
Uh what do you think Ticketsnow is? Ticketmaster buys their own tickets and scalps them already. - papashawn, on 02/11/2009, -0/+8Buying tickets through ticketmaster does to my wallet what a nine inch steel dildo would do to my rectum
- SpectreFire, on 02/11/2009, -0/+7This is one of the most blatant and disgusting monopolies ever. And the government and public are doing absolutely NOTHING to stop it.
***** their 30% "convenience" fees. - kinseyincanada, on 02/11/2009, -0/+7***** ticketmaster, the convenience fees or higher than most of the ticket prices.
- ABadPerson, on 02/11/2009, -0/+7***** ticketmaster
- Jordan117, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6"Convenience fee: $2.50"
How convenient. - factsahoy, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6Nobody laughed at them. Their experience stands as testimony to the monopoly that is Ticketmaster and the disgrace of its persistence in the United States, a country that supposedly has laws to protect consumers from exactly this phenomenon.
Pearl Jam fought hard for its fans. Why were they the only ones? Where was Metallica while its fans were getting dicked over by Ticketmaster? Happy to bitch about piracy (with some justification) but not willing to stick up for fans.
Ticketmaster is goddamned lucky they had their monopoly and contracts all sewn up before the Internet, because today anybody can throw together an E-commerce site and sell tickets directly. Every major venue could sell tickets itself, reaping all the profits. If they had any balls, they'd tell Ticketmaster to ***** off, and if Ticketmaster threatens to sue, the venues can threaten to file and vigorously pursue an antitrust case against them. - WELLDOITLIVE, on 02/11/2009, -1/+7The best alternative is to go to the box office and you will get rid of all those fees (except for the facility or venue fee which must always be paid). Unfortunately this isn't always an option if you live 100+ miles away from the box office or if there simply isn't one for the show you're going to see :(
I used to work for TM and I hated it, but I would always let people in on whatever info they needed to know to get good tickets and info like this that we weren't always trained to say. - pdaoust007, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6They are getting sued for $500M in Canada... Only a matter of time the same thing happens in the USA.
http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2009/02/09/8324 ... - RODAMI, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6join the Facebook group "Boycott Ticketmaster/Livenation for One Year", pass it along and put these crooks out of business
- akula89, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6just bought Springsteen tickets the other day. of course, they were "sold out" in <30 seconds (no tickets available)
absolute *****. so, I proceeded to buy 3 tickets *individually* . now the 3 of us going to the show won't be sitting beside eachother, and I had to pay Ticketmaster an $8 "convenience fee" for ALL THREE TICKETS! over $40.00 in fees for 3 tickets. - PhillyMJS, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6The number one condition for approval of this merger should be this:
They must be up front about the total ticket price INCLUDING any and all ***** fees/surcharges/etc that currently get tacked on afterwards-- "up front" meaning you see that price before you click "Buy tickets now," not after you get four pages into the ordering process on their website and find out that those two $20 tickets you want are actually going to cost you $75 instead of $40.
Having said that, I don't think this merger should be approved. But we all know the appropriate palms will be greased and it will go through with easily-circumvented conditions that were included to protect consumers. - factsahoy, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5Our "representatives" in Congress have allowed Ticketmaster to operate as a far more complete and consumer-harming monopoly than Microsoft ever was. No way should it have taken this long to undertake action against these *****. Merger or not, Ticketmaster should be not only brought down, but fined hard for years if not decades of ripping off consumers.
It's been done before. Years ago the record companies were found to have colluded, price-fixed, and ripped off consumers to the tune of $400 million (coincidentally the same amount they claimed Napster cost them). People who signed up for the suit settlement received a check for $13. Funny how the media never bring this up amidst the continuing flap over file-sharing.
People, YOU must act to bring TicketMaster down. Write to or call (forget E-mail, it carries no weight) your representatives in Congress and demand action, and make it clear that STOPPING THIS MERGER IS NOT ENOUGH. Ticketmaster is a criminal enterprise that must make restitution, divest itself of its scalping subsidiaries, and create an open marketplace of tickets for all major venues.

http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml - darkane, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5I hate to be the one to tell you, but TicketWeb is owned by Ticketmaster.
- evodevo1, on 02/11/2009, -1/+6These people are ***** useless middlemen. Why there is no legislation to stop this ***** ass raping of the consumers is beyond me. I guess in the end we are stupid to let these people rape us, but then if you want to take your date to a special show or sporting event, you'll just have to take it up the ass so you don't look like a cheap ass and have some small chance of tapping her ass.
- kolobcreek, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5Why is it buying tickets is such a dirty business. I can't ever remember buying concert tickets online where it was a good experience. Why does everyone want to gouge you for money. Why are they so vicious about it? If you'd ask me I'd say Ticketmaster is worse than the scalpers.
- brandita, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5Too bad most of the tickets cost more like 60 dollars.
- stevieraveon, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5I clicked on the "Bury" button next to your post. How much do you get paid on that?
- DankNugzPlz, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5Ticketbastards!
I have a bad feeling about this... - perryc, on 02/09/2009, -4/+9I wasn't a big Ticketmaster-style fan in the first place, I just hope they will keep it decent.
- michaelGregoire, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5Shocker! No competition raises prices! Who'd a thunk it!
- ElBarbarossa, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4So the extra money they make is gonna be passed off to the musicians who actually create the product we're all buying, right?
- Stephen1424, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4BBBOOOOOOOOOOO... Now we can get ripped off even worse... THANKS SEC !!
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4Yea they suck, I don't consider those box offices.
- deweyhewson, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4Good.
- factsahoy, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4They struck contracts with all the major venues, contracts that undoubtedly prohibit the venues from putting up their own sites. Thus the illegality of Ticketmaster, as a comprehensive monopoly.
The existence of scalping sites, which will undoubtedly be used by Ticketmaster to claim that competition exists, doesn't prove *****. And in fact, the scalping sites are a whole other affront to the public: Why are organized scalpers legal, but individuals doing the same thing can be arrested? *****. - stiffy86, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4Wow, hate those damn monopolies, see what you started Parker Brothers!
