    I interpret this as to try to become a 'productive person'
    and not to live on credit.

So many people don't think aobut how much things actually cost on credit and the burden you put on yourself when you are in debt is like carrying around a massive load. Buying with cash is so much more fulfilling and cash is power as well. You have much more negotiation power with cash in hand than with plastic!
