- aegreen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Let the MySpace bashfest begin.
- kgool, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8NAMBLA maybe?
- scared I made that observation
Or maybe it is useful for the North Amercian Boat Association - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3actually that was a different myspace
- halik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3myspace is what geocitiies was back in 1997-98. The people that had the same undreadable web pages with tiled pictures in the background and mutlicolored text with animated gif icons are now in their late 20s and the new teenybopper crowd is doing the same thing on myspace. It's just another fad, that's all
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"The current President/Co-Owner and public face of MySpace, "Tom" worked for Xdrive with DeWolfe. During this time, it is rumored that he ran a pornography site that brought in an extra $5000 a month, although this is unconfirmed."
Interesting. I wonder if anyone can confirm and find Tom's porn site. I have a feeling it's gay porn, too. - grungyhamster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, stopped reading after seeing the headline "Random crap that pops into my head."
Now THAT seems like a reliable source. - reagan83, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Good idea - I hate myspace!
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I remember using it back in 1999 when I was in college for storing anime and sharing it with my friends. All those kids on it now were in grade school back then. When they hit high school MySpace all of sudden became popular as a social networking site.
- Haroldx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The people who previously owned the MySpace domain name had a hosting/web design company with a horrible layout.
How ironic. - tehmoth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"i used myspace when it was cool."
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is stolen from another article that was posted on Digg.
- cma3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2next time have your friend digg your site as opposed to you.
digg.com, imo, is not a platform for you to advertise your blog. if its good it will get out, dont force it like this.
furthermore, this was not a good post and your blog is horribly written. your attempt at journalism was a failure.
k, thanx.
this post = buried - poipoipoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2was the broken html next to his "bad code" accusation on purpose?
also neat: "i got all this stuff form some other guy's site."
this guy is a jerk, no digg. - LucidHawk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"The site itself has something of a shady history."
I don't car,e why should we care? its a website... In fact I care SO little I felt inclined to care to not care to the point that I came here to tell you I don't care. - TangleWood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yay the true about the MySpace is coming out. I just hope everyone will stop using Tom's crappy service that so many people hate and is linked to so many bad press stories. Hopefully the Internet will someday become what it was intended to do; share valuable information that matters and not just be full of crap blogs and porn.
- Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5this is a blog with blathering speculation
- Neme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2White on black websites make my eyes hurt. :(
- MuGuGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah... that this guy even calls MySpace user 'web designers' and then questions their skills is laughable. No digg for reporting your own "crappy thoughts" blog.
- diehard2k5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't mod me down for the truth.
- tdk2fe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I think they should enjoy it while it lasts. Something tells me that in the "ProtectTheChildren 2.0" era the sites going to be subjected to a lot of regulation - possibly making it not so popular amongst the current teenie-bopper crowd.
- darkmule, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"hmm" is the best thing I can come up with to say. Kind of creepy our information is in the hands of so many people who were in the world of advertisement. This explains why Tom's little website is always down, and their always 'fixing something'.
I do use myspace, but for personal communication. Its a quick and easy tool in that sense. - twalicek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@KSava: I gratefully acknowledged Trent Lapinski's contribution already. I'm not claiming to have gathered all that information myself, a lot of it is his. I just attempted to condense it into an easier-to-read timeline form, rather than his long paragraphs.
- MrCalifornia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I used XDrive for a while and when I tried to cancel found out it is owned by AOL and they use the same cancelation department so you have to sit on hold and go through all the AOL BS to cancel. There should be a law that if you can sign up for something online you have to be able to cancel it online.
- useandabuse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I, personally, liked the reading material. It got my mind off some stuff and gave me little insight about the lousy service, although I use Myspace... >_>
Anyway. I guess I can say it was okay. And kudos to Lapinski. - twalicek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1If you didn't like it, I'm sorry. I wasn't attempting to advertise my blog, I realize it's just a lame Blogger account. I just thought that some people might enjoy reading about the history of MySpace.
- zocalo24, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'f Myspace was like Geocities in the mid to latter 90s (see halik's comment above) I wonder how it will evolve. I hope to G-d that it becomes more readable and less visually nauseating
BTW I used XDrive back in 2000 and it sucked. - kirkness, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1thanks just sent this in a bulletin to my friends list. poor bastards
- diehard2k5, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5This is old. It was on digg like 6 months ago. No digg.
- caselogic, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1the North American Model Boat Association? why would they do that.. I guess Building Model Boats is Easier when you can post a picture of it on your web page and have 157 model boat friends helping you out.
Oh wait. you were trying to make a joke and you got the reference wrong. lame. - OneAMCoffee, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2I hate MySpace and only because they are making more money a day then I may in a much longer period of time.
- donnikhan, on 10/12/2007, -15/+62006 - myspace voted one of NAMBA's "Most useful sites of the year"
