Better than a mirror. - Vazelos, on 03/23/2008, -12/+67Norway is the most expensive one on the list yet it is the best place to live in (UN report). An example of how oil revenue should be used.
I remember watching an interview of a politician in the government of Norway saying that not only the have done everything they ever wanted in the economy from oil revenue but also they are saving some crazy amount for what he called 'a rainy day'.
I have maximum respect for this country. - sjbdallas, on 03/23/2008, -8/+46It should be noted: the price of gas comes from shipping and refinery costs as much as from the cost of oil. We pay less here than europe because we have more refineries in the US to process. They don't have as many (or any at all i believe) in europe so it all has to be refined elsewhere and shipped in.
Saudi and Iraq of course can go right from the ground into a refinery and into the tank at pretty low cost. If we could get oil out of the shale in colorado, and out of the sand in canada at a decent cost, AND were allowed to build more refineries we'd be under a buck a gallon too. - identifiedlogo, on 03/23/2008, -4/+32502 is BAD GATEWAY
ANY MIRRORS - blackjack75, on 03/23/2008, -0/+22I am afraid you are all (partly) wrong. The biggest cause for the difference in Europe is TAXES. The vast majority of the price of a liter of gas here is the taxes.
That's french but applies to many european countries:
http://img318.imageshack.us/img318/7673/evolutionp ...
(blue is the normal price, yellow is what added of taxes)
As you can see it exploded over the previous years. It's the usual "it's bad for your and the environment so we'll tax it more". The state makes a living out of cigarettes, alcohol and gas. - rabidg00se, on 03/23/2008, -0/+21Of course he doesn't snakk norsk. Nobody snakks norsk.
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -2/+22I would be really interested in knowing what the cost of gas is in places in the world when you subtract taxes to see whose country has the corporations that are taking the most profit from it.
- j1ggy, on 03/23/2008, -5/+24502 Bad Gateway
- Persian5Life, on 03/23/2008, -7/+26i am surprised Canada was not in there.
- linuxrocks2007, on 03/23/2008, -0/+19Sidney? You mean Sidney Crosby?
- adamtech78, on 03/23/2008, -2/+20I don't remember when we had gas at 2.69 in Chicago
- AAK15, on 03/23/2008, -4/+22Old statistics are OLD
- dagamer34, on 03/23/2008, -0/+15People tend to forget that the US isn't to thoughtful about public transportation as it is in Europe or Asia. If you need to get from point A to point B, you really DO need a car most of the time in the US.
- anarcurt, on 03/23/2008, -2/+15Goodbye suburban sprawl, hello city

This one is good too. - chupito45, on 03/23/2008, -0/+10Maybe all these charts are kinda old?
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -0/+10Buried as inaccurate it is from June 2007 !
- Soave, on 03/23/2008, -0/+10Bottled water and ice cream cost more than gas.
- rcomegys, on 03/23/2008, -1/+11Don't believe any of these sites or the mirrors listed. I live in Japan and I pay 148 yen per liter, which is about $5.63 dollars per gallon, yet each of these charts list it as somewhere around $4.10~$4.50 a gallon. BIG difference from the reality I face at the pumps.
- jgtg32a, on 03/23/2008, -3/+13Has Duggmirror ever worked?
- protodon, on 03/23/2008, -0/+10I wonder what the price of bread is in all of these countries. it's probably not that far off. In other words, some countries are just more expensive than others.
- snowblindnz, on 03/23/2008, -2/+12I can has cheezmirror?
- apc3161, on 03/23/2008, -1/+10Venezuela, $0.17? Jeeze, apparently South America is hell struck on staying poor. Rather than not subsidizing their gasoline, they could be exporting, making an insane amount of money (which would probably bring more utility than just having subsidized gasoline) yet they choose not to...sigh...
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -2/+11mirror?
- foofightrs777, on 03/23/2008, -0/+8Yeah it's down on 6 mirrors that the Digg.com Mirrors greasemonkey script provide.
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -1/+9they actually do in alaska i think
- stewartallyn, on 03/23/2008, -0/+7Concerning the last picture...which is great...looks like there is more gas (and beer) in those two guys than will ever be needed in the car.
- JasonMath, on 03/23/2008, -5/+12Actually, if the U.S. really wants to reduce it's "addiction to oil", higher gas prices are good. Look at Europe - they have had gas prices for well over $4 a gallon (and even over $5 a gallon in many spots) for many years now, and look what you see people driving there - lots of tiny cars, with no Hummers in sight. The government should repeal all fuel economy standards and impose a $1-$2 a gallon fuel tax. That way, people can choose to drive gas-guzzling cars (and auto companies can continue to make them), but it will be economically smarter for most people to buy small, fuel-efficient cars.
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -0/+7Looks like you did last year on June 26th.
- peestandingup, on 03/23/2008, -0/+7Too bad thats like a year old. Houston $2.56 my ass.
- MrSlumberjack, on 03/23/2008, -0/+7yes
- twistaspliff, on 03/23/2008, -2/+9Are all people from France as dumb as you?
- formergthing, on 03/23/2008, -1/+8Uhh.. Venezuela exports a ***** of oil to the U.S. - about half of what they produce, actually. That's something like 4,000,000 barrels of oil a day. In fact, Citgo and Valero gas stations are completely supplied by Venezuelan oil.
- N00F, on 03/23/2008, -1/+7Seriously, we're only the second largest Soverign country in the world.
- hughesj919, on 03/23/2008, -2/+8Uhh thats wrong. You pay more in Europe because you export it all because there isn't much demand in Europe. Europe produces much more oil than they require (--the North Sea for example). There are refineries in Europe (Conocophillips has one in Lincolnshire, Chevron in Pembroke for example). The refineries are where the oil is at. Crude found in Europe isn't shipped to the US to be refined. Anybody could tell you thats not cost effective.
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -0/+6Yeah I like this graph(also in your link):
http://www.shell.com/home/Framework?siteId=au-en&F ... - TheGrimChaos, on 03/23/2008, -0/+6Gasoline
- j1ggy, on 03/23/2008, -1/+7Socialism would imply more taxes. Your logic is illogical. Spock told me so.
- smacksaw, on 03/23/2008, -0/+6I'm tryin' to help you with a good article here and Digg you up, but we need a mirror please.
- MrSlumberjack, on 03/23/2008, -0/+6You don't even need gas in Iceland. You just kinda slide around.
- ferory, on 03/23/2008, -1/+6Canada's gas station prices go up and down 10 cents over the course of a day. What do you think would happen if the pump price at an American gas station fluctuated 38 cents (the price per gallon equivalent) in a day?
- dtox, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5The US gallon is 3.785 Litres. So when the Canadian price fluctuates by $0.10/L the price per US gallon equivalent would be about $0.38
- sn0w, on 03/23/2008, -0/+5This is incorrect. All the gas that is sold here in Norway is refined in Norway. The primary reason for the high price is purchasing power and a high level of tax.
- j1ggy, on 03/23/2008, -0/+5Why use extra syllables and make it harder to say? Life is all about efficiency these days. I even press 60 instead of 100 on the microwave.
- rancor, on 03/23/2008, -1/+6It seems that you don't know that a major part of Russia is located in Europe, in fact 40 % of Europe is Russian territory (source: wikipedia).
But the point is that the part of Russia that is located in Europe produce a significant amount of oil. So even if you only include the European part of Russia (as you should) the amount oil produced will be about the same for both Europe and North America. - inactive, on 03/23/2008, -0/+5Like almost a YEAR old
- yuutokun, on 03/23/2008, -0/+4No. MUCH dumber.
- krazydl, on 03/23/2008, -0/+4I thought NY was bad..... London is ridiculous. @.@
- xister, on 03/23/2008, -1/+5Well, that's the way it is when you're one of the top 10 largest economies in the world...
- h0ser, on 03/23/2008, -6/+10its still over a buck a litre in Alberta Canada. They have huge refineries and oil reserves. It's cheap in venezuela because Chavez kicked the oil companies out and took back their natural resource.
The oil companies are the ones ripping everyone off. -
