- SmackMyMac, on 10/11/2007, -2/+40Buy motorcycles in the winter, business is slow for them and they will deal.
- thisguy47, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22Ah yes, Ass Wednesday.
- kingamoon, on 10/11/2007, -4/+23You pay for hookers? I just pick them up, do ma thing, give them the money, then swing the car back and run them over and walk towards the flashing green dollar to get ma money back.
Peace
Tommy Vercetti - HeatherH88, on 10/11/2007, -4/+22Rather than just buying airline tickets on Wednesdays, it's s supposed to be much much cheaper if you can actually make your flight on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Search engines like Kayak.com will get you the best rates.
- stroebele, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Don't buy a car at the dealer. Buy a car over the phone/email, you can stretch the dealer out over a week easily. With email, you can forward dealer's A best offer to dealer B, and let them tear each other apart. I've bought my last 3 cars this way, and saved 1000s each time.
- maineman99, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Best time of day to avoid crowds at a retail store? Lines are short, and sales people free to answer questions from 6:00PM to 7:30PM. I noticed this when I worked in an electronics department years ago, and now make a point of shopping then. Thursdays are especially quiet.
- redrock34, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Yeah, but at least I attended a Live Earth concert so that makes it all better.
- jfsimard79, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7If you are about to be moving, try to rent a moving truck in the middle of the month, demand is low and so we keep our prices low. Sometimes 1/5 of the "end of the month" prices.
- kevthecatslayer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Nah, find the ads online and buy them days early. Then sleep in on Black Friday but get your receipt adjusted later in the day.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Black Friday.
- amirbd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4If travelling abroad, my suggestion would be to go to an ethnic food store catering to the people of the country you want to visit. Grab a few of their newspapers and look for deals from travel agencies.
Even if the paper is in a language you do not understand, the ads usually include english. The reason this is cheaper is somewhat obvious. It's highly targeted to the most well-informed of customers- people who travel to those particular destinations often. - cpjax, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4monday monkey lives for the weekend sir
- harlowsmonkeys, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4The department store one doesn't make sense. It basically says Saturday night is best because you might find items already marked for the Sunday sale price, and even if they are not yet marked, you might be able to get the store to give you the Sunday price.
Wouldn't this mean that Sunday would be the best time to buy? I don't see how Saturday can be best when all you get on Saturday is a chance to *maybe* match the Sunday price. - turpenine, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3that is exactly why certain days are better than others, if you have the flexibility and can make time for it you can really dominate.
- kevthecatslayer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3You can also save on a car by buying it on the last day of the month. Dealers will usually cut you a deal so they don't have to may the usual monthly fees.
- modsuperstar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Buy winter jackets in August. That $300 jacket from last year will be selling for $89.

- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2"Department-Store Wares
When to Buy: Saturday evening.
Why: Department stores have a lot to mark down for their Sunday circulars, so they frequently start the process on Saturday evenings before store closing, says Finney. "They're preparing for the big rush," she says. Bonus: Even if the markdowns haven't been made, many employees will honor the sale price if you ask. Print out the circular preview from the store's web site, and bring it with you when you head to the mall."
That isn't necessarily true. I have worked at a couple of different retail organizations and they wouldn't accept future ads until the ad started. The only thing you could do was purchase it before it was on sale, and then when the sale was actually going on get the sale price.` - keraneuology, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3"Car dealers live for the weekend, which is when they make most of their sales,"
Except in Michigan where dealers are required by state law to be closed on Sunday and most dealers are closed on Saturday. - ronaldinho, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I will make it a point to go to a car dealer on a Monday
For the restaurant pointer, there was an article on Digg earlier about it too. To make sure you get value, not only should you go when the food is freshest, also try to ask your waiter and waitresses where all the ingredients come from, especially if their menu has something like "Maryland-style crabcake". You all want to make sure that your crab does come from the Chesapeake, right? Don't want them to replace them with something else. - terrortwilight, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4only for those with much time on their hands... same thing with the coupons.
that's the way economics works - TheSpore, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I would say the best time to buy winter stuff would be in May or June. By August most department stores are gearing up for their "Fall" buying season and hence everything is new and full-price, especially with school starting.
An even better time to buy winter stuff is probably February or March, because they still might have a selection but everything is on clearance while they get in all their Spring and Summer stuff. - seanc6610, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Also, dealers get dealer incentives based on sales per month, so they're willing to work with you much more if you agree to accept delivery by the end of the month.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You haven't met some of the ***** managers I have worked with in the past. Also they usually wait till after closing or like 10 minutes till closing to start putting out new signs.
- smileydude, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i found this article on a page two link from heebmagazine.com, funny too see the star of david slandering the digg/yahoo publishing, pssst, you let them diggers and yahooers in on our little jewish pennypinching secrets. hahahaha, shalom, well planned time traveler, no last minute weekend shopping for me and my family.
- ironmanxl1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2As a car salesman I can tell you that thing about coming in on monday is complete BS. Who the hell wrote this anyway?
- shannonxj, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1agree! wednesday is best. i also noticed that too on my online purchases on http://www.rollingpricesback.com
- Remmiz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2"Groceries
To snag savings on items you don't need just yet, shop on Tuesday, advises Hunt. Chances are, the store will have run out of the sale items. "That means you can pick up rain checks, which allow you to buy those items later when you need them, and at the sale price," she says."
I don't know about many other stores, but we get a shipment of groceries in on Monday, so odds are that we wouldn't run out in a day. Honestly though, just ask for a rain check even if there is product on the shelf...the front desk people don't know what's in stock and what isn't. - nikkilai, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1That depends on the department. I used to work at a women's clothing retail store and 5:00p and beyond tended to be our busiest hours.
- artofwar420, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1UH??? WTF! Don't even go there man.
- tritiumpie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2On your bachelor's party-- your buddies foot the bill!
- Gazpacho, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Before lunch, on a week day, when school is in session is the best time at the store I use to work at. Although, there may be lack of employees since it is slow and they all may be busy with building displays, putting out new product, and putting away all the clothing left in the fitting rooms. Look on the bright side, the store won't be crowded.
- Mearn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Explorer Hybrid? Someone's full of *****!
- bunnybash, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1haha in perth australia, our stores aren't open after about 5pm... yeah city of 1.5million and no open stores! BUT on Thursday nights stores are open till 9pm, it' called "late night shopping" and is a big deal, so to go shopping on a Thursday night over here is suicide, absolutely terrible!!
- berzon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0or that the store may run out of the "great deal" advertised, quickly...

- Markers, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I didn't know the Power Wheel Hummer H1's had a refillable gas tank...
- joefriday, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Gas should be Wednesday before noon. I live by a corner that has 3 gas stations. Why Wednesday because sometimes they jack up the price Wednesday night. They are not going to drop the prices Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
- ironmanxl1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0To elaborate a little. Car dealerships are not crackheads that'll do something desperate when times get slow. They already know mondays are slow but that doesn't mean you deviate from your business model because of a slow day. If you did you wouldn't be in business for too long. The end of the month rumor is also crap. Dealerships months dont always coincide with the calendar month.
- wangcui333, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Sometimes it is not the time when you can buy the cheapest, but the place where you can buy. For example, you know there are two providers, one in your own state, one in China. Including the cost, the freight and the insurance, it is still cheaper from the Chinese provider. Which provider you would choose? Of course the right place and the right time is the best. But that is just what you should do, to find the information. At www.acb2b.com. you can just find such information about American and Chinese market. Go and find the cheapest!
- nullx42, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4Black Friday FtW
- modsuperstar, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1What they are implying is that the prices will be marked in-store in preparation for the next day. It's hard for a store to decline someone a price when the shelf is marked with that price, even if it is in effect tomorrow.
- oMeSSiaHo, on 10/11/2007, -8/+5If you want to buy a laptop or TV from a big box store do it on Friday or Saturday. The employees cant negotiate the price but the sales managers are eager to get their add on and warranty numbers up so they'll cut you a deal on cables or warranties. They technically cant do it so as long as you arent a dick and reasonable you can save a good deal of money. I remember my sales manager knocked like $500 off of a VIAO sale once.
