- Junior612, on 09/26/2008, -2/+29Spending money on iPhone apps makes perfect financial sense!
- mibi, on 09/26/2008, -2/+23yeah some great apps in there. Though I am trying not to look at stock quotes at the moment.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -1/+17Just installed the Tiptap one, hopefully better service at the restaurants will follow heh.
- MikeonTV, on 09/26/2008, -1/+15How ironic. I can be reminded on my expensive iPhone how much money I've lost! Thanks!
- twmulloy, on 09/26/2008, -1/+9wtf, people still resort to tip calculators?
- mattnyc99, on 09/26/2008, -1/+7are there apps that give hank paulson less power?
- doshindude, on 09/26/2008, -0/+6more like the 10 apps for the iphone that nobody is going to use/give a ***** about except for the stereotypical businessman.
- buddyw, on 09/27/2008, -1/+7Seriously though people. You should ALL be able to calculate a tip in your head.
Take your total $26.21
1.) get 10% (move the decimal to the left one place). This gives you $2.62
2.) now to get to 15% just half that number $2.62/2 = $1.31and
3.) add it to the 10% number 2.62 + 1.31 = $3.93
It doesn't have to be exact. Just be nice and round up if you stuck. - MarkDykeman, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5I have no iPhone so I cannot use.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4haha, nice point.
- then00b, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4I use Balance (free iPhone app) to keep track of my checking account and despite its simplicity, it gets the job done. Might look in to some of these other check balancing apps though.
- sygyzy, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4All the (free) tip calculators suck. They can't really take into account, tax, properly. For example, you are dining with four friends and you want to know your share. It should be cost of food + tax (your share) + tip (your share) = What you owe. These programs can't figure it out. The best they can do is let you enter the subotal and tax and figure out each person's share if split evening. What I end up dong is going into calculator, finding out my total with tip, then going back and plugging it in. When I am done, I think, geez, I might as well have done it the old way: subtotal * (1.0775 + 0.15)
- AppleMacStud, on 09/27/2008, -1/+5It just doesn't get any better than the iPhone. It's the slickest, most user friendly phone in the world. But that can pretty much be said of all Apple products, especially the Mac.
- zadadka, on 09/26/2008, -1/+4Can it work out how handing over 70billion to incompetent banking institutions will suddenly make them competent?
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3now that we're dreaming.. are there apps that turn tricks?
- chourobin, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3everyone check out www.istockmanager.com. I use it personally but its great for real time quotes and u can execute stock orders on ur iphone.
- ZenFu, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3Check out http://appulo.us and a jailbreak app called Appshare on http://hackulo.us
Problem solved.
Think of this as way to try-before-you-buy with iphone apps. - buddyw, on 09/27/2008, -1/+3I have calculator on mine. It does all of that and more. Some people are confused by the commands, so here is a little intro:
to get a tip amount at 15% on a 20.00 tab:
press: 2 0 x . 1 5 =
To split a 20.00 tab between 2 people:
press: 2 0 / 2 =
It's a bit complicated at first, but I'm sure you can figure it out. - slangille, on 09/26/2008, -1/+3Are there any apps that help me execute trades?
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -1/+3The iphone is really the gift that keeps on giving
- Unzorn, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2I have CheckPlease on mine... it does the exact same thing but also gives the option to split the chceck.
- dning, on 09/26/2008, -1/+3Those apps are great but Mint needs to write their own iPhone app instead of talking about other people's!
- l800LEMMINGS, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1i emailed mint.com a month ago asking them to come out with an mint app for the iphone to at the very least check balances on various accounts at 1 click of a button. I think this means no.
- LexMortis, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Where is the app that will go from 0 to 700 billion in a few seconds?
- zadadka, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2(700 billion of course, not my typo of 70)
- bkk130, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Salesforce mobile is another very powerful financial app for iphone and blackberry. However, it comes with a price...
- faithfreedom, on 09/27/2008, -1/+2I will explode if I see one more iphone article on Digg, I swear
- crashingechelon, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1I thought of the irony with financial apps. I would think that they would all be free, which most are, but ones that I would think really matter charge $4-$10. It's kinda like saying, "Hey with this app you can better organize where money goes in your life for only $10!" I understand people need to make money and program these apps takes time, but seriously find another way for these apps.
- xsecretfiles, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1lol thanks for this. I was looking for this .....like two hours ago
- doctordbx, on 09/27/2008, -1/+2Oh god stop sucking dick.
I own a Mac, it's not bad, but it's not the focus of my life. - doctordbx, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1That's because it's ridiculously expensive or impossible to international roam with said iPhone.
- sonofashoe, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Bloomberg iphone developers and biz manager are bozos.
- ThisCommentSux, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Description is somewhat inaccurate, there is no currency convertor in this list (that I could see).
- jonronpaulie, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Pretty soon there won't be any finance left in this country, so you won't need to worry about which apps to put on your iPhone.
- locojones, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1You forget that iPhones are for people for whom that kind of stuff is too hard to do. That's why they need some flashy application to make them feel better about themselves and so they can have yet another reason to whip out their phone in front of others sitting at the dinner table.
- mantis108, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Do people really lack the basic math skills to calculate tips in their head? If they get a bill for $55 they seriously can't figure out 10% of that is $5.50, and half-again of that is $2.75, making 15% is $8.25? Kinda sad that software for this is even necessary, since we're talking basic multiplication/division and addition here.
Put another way: WTF? You're smart enough to operate an iPhone but you can't do 3rd grade math? - streetread, on 09/27/2008, -0/+0How about http://streetread.com/m ?
All the financial news you can get - news sites + stocks
No? - vassar, on 09/27/2008, -1/+1Tip is the best 'Tip Calculator'. From the web site "With "Mirror" you can confirm that every food charge in your credit card bill is for an amount with mirrored digits (e.g. $37.73) and that no one tried to skim a bit off the top." Check it out at http://pipo.us/iPhone/Tip
- BrendanSheehan, on 09/27/2008, -1/+1Mint.com... is this new?
Bloomberg and Tipulator are they only apps worth considering here. - beaner2011, on 09/26/2008, -5/+5Tip calculators / 'going dutch' calculators don't count as finance apps. They count as cheapskate douchebag tools. I've either been invited, or I pick up the tab.
I do use the Bloomberg app - a great example of a really well done iPhone app. - nichmicro, on 10/23/2008, -0/+0These iphone and itouch devices really do help you out, if you use all the tools that they come with. You can really make these devices your own personal electronic office.
- EntropyFan, on 09/27/2008, -2/+1Spending that much on a status symbol, which is what the iPhone is, doesn't, though.
- jawagas, on 09/27/2008, -2/+1Suck it a fatty iPhone! GooOOOggle??
