- DeviantDragon, on 11/11/2007, -7/+371Right, let's go straight to the supermodel currency of choice: cocaine
- Napoleone, on 11/11/2007, -8/+332Wow. You know things are bad when models are smart enough to turn down the dollar.
- SiNN4R, on 11/11/2007, -2/+84I would have climbed a mountain to digg you.
- craprock, on 11/09/2007, -4/+84Where are we going, and why am I in a hand-basket?
- Lixie, on 11/11/2007, -9/+67I wish I was paid in British pounds.
- WallyAnti, on 11/06/2007, -2/+51Wow, this could be really bad. Am I wrong or is the value of a currency strongly tied to the confidence people put in it?
- baalzebub, on 11/06/2007, -5/+35i dont blame her one bit, the US Dollar is in the toilet, gasoline is 3 dollars a gallon, not because oil is that expensive = just that the US dollar has lost that much value...
- blitzer, on 11/09/2007, -7/+36People should not comment on things they don't understand.
- Graves138, on 11/06/2007, -1/+25hahahaha. oh man, that's a good one.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 11/11/2007, -3/+25Because next week when he's being paid again he doesn't want the buying power of his pay check cut in half.
- ArtificialAnus, on 11/06/2007, -1/+22I don't think that will happen - the Canadians and Mexicans will object to the watering down of their perfectly good currencies.
- PATSCRU, on 11/11/2007, -0/+19wow, that's like one of the most intense "i want to digg you more than i can" quotes ever on digg.
- staticblake, on 11/06/2007, -8/+27I was thinking about using some tact when telling you that what you said was moronic....but I changed my mind. Go ***** yourself!
- azbmr, on 11/06/2007, -0/+16You are right. That is the exact definition of the value of currency.
- WallyAnti, on 11/06/2007, -2/+17Wow, what you did there, that couldn't have been done better. Just wow. *bows in reverence*
- thebellmaster1x, on 11/07/2007, -2/+17Actually, jackass, it's you who doesn't know anything about economics. Being paid in a strong currency is an investment. If she gets paid in dollars, it might be worth .75 euros one day, .50 the next. If she gets paid in euros, it's worth $1.35 one day, $1.75 the next. Basic, really.
- hiphoc, on 11/11/2007, -2/+17But how dumb are Americans that they cant see that the economy is being destroyed? All the while the asses on TV are saying this is the strongest economy ever. That's right, for the super rich. The economy is very strong for them. If she is denying it its because it made a huge flap. I think when people realize that if dumb models who have a diet of Cocaine and lettuce are smart enough to know the US dollar is dead people here may wake the ***** up. Guns or Butter not both.
Yea the euro hits highs against the dollar because it is partially backed by gold and the US is dying from the war inflation illness. The US dollar is backed by bombs. Take our wortheless currency or we will put you on a terror list and bomb the ***** out of you. Ask venuzuela, iran and iraq about that. - Intangible360, on 11/06/2007, -0/+15RTFA, she is doing this because if she signs a contract for, well let's say 2million US dollars because of the instability of the currency she may make considerably less than she signed on for.
- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -0/+14No the dollar is tied to deficits and debts. When canada was running deficits and the debt was getting larger, its currency went down to the 60 cent level of the us dollar. Now that canada is running surpluses for many years and the deficit is shrinking slowly, the currency is now up to $1.07 us dollars. Hight debt is one of the main causes of dollar drops.
- whataboutdave, on 11/09/2007, -7/+21The sun never sets, old chap? Sour grapes and empire I suppose.
- Jazzanova, on 11/06/2007, -4/+18Or her agent is. I doubt she has the smarts to arrive at that decision by herself.
- Genady, on 11/07/2007, -1/+14Set an example! Start today! Oops, too late.
- spillwater, on 11/07/2007, -1/+13 irony irony irony irony irony irony irony irony irony irony irony irony irony irony irony irony irony irony irony iro...
- luchid, on 11/06/2007, -1/+13A++ COMMENT WOULD BUY AGAIN
- brucerchapman, on 11/07/2007, -0/+12This is a real issue - I have a friend who gets paid in USD, although he isn't American, doesn't live in the USA or work for an American company (he works for a French company in international waters and lives in Australia). Because he agreed to a Salary three years ago in USD, he has now had a 30%+ pay cut. The company has a contract clause to increase his salary to match a currency decline, but it takes 12 months before it kicks in. Bottom line is he is taking a hit on his salary through no fault of his own. Had he been paid in Euros he wouldn't have had this problem.
- gudnbluts, on 11/06/2007, -3/+14I always look to supermodels for financial advice.
- euro22, on 12/17/2008, -1/+12A comment worth a thousand diggs!
- Dumbledorito, on 11/06/2007, -0/+11Sure it's going somewhere. To overseas tax shelters. And as for our government money? Well, let's see, we've got a deficit and debt that makes Mount Doom look like a speed bump and a never ending war costing trillions.
So yeah, a profitable company that's more of a global entity that's plowing its cash into avoiding taxation in the first place really doesn't hold much water.
To put it another way: Drug lords make (literally) tons of money. Why isn't Colombia a first-world nation? - TehDoctor, on 11/06/2007, -0/+11I'm not seeing the benefit from the "taxes trickling down" thing. Higher gas prices means higher prices on everything else because you have to transport goods, etc. It might be different if the taxes were being spent wisely, but with America's debt in the trillions, the country is hemorrhaging money and the pittance the gov't makes on taxing gas doesn't help that at all. Meanwhile, the dollar plummets in value and people start feeling the pain in their wallets when 50 bucks doesn't buy as much groceries as it used to.
- urbandistrict, on 11/06/2007, -0/+11blitzer, tell us about women...
- heatman, on 11/06/2007, -1/+11I RARELY ever actually laugh out loud (like the real version, not the crappy "lol" I'm being polite in IM)...
That comment made my night :) - garbanzo, on 11/07/2007, -0/+10I'd like my wages in Krugerrands. It would be massively inconvenient, but also totally radical. (Not radical like revolutionary, radical like gnarly or tubular)
- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -0/+10What goods? It's all made in China.
- PRlME, on 11/07/2007, -0/+9UPDATE
http://www.cnbc.com/id/21633980
She released a statement saying she did not say that, some reported from Brazil did. - oogee, on 11/06/2007, -3/+12I'll speak on behalf of Canadians when I say " No Thanks"
I'm not stupid enough to think the Canadian dolllar will remain above the US for the long term, but I wouldn't want the value my currency - if it became the Amero - to be influenced in any way through the idiotic decisions made by the next half-wit the Americans might elect next. - floorman56, on 11/07/2007, -2/+11We could save a lot of money by closing our bases in Europe and leaving NATO
- Skanadian, on 11/07/2007, -5/+14To all Americans: That's pretty embarrassing.
- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -2/+11You win. Nice comment!!
- marksweb, on 11/07/2007, -1/+9haha! I love the power of my paycheque!
just need to move to america as a third party contractor of a UK firm and still get paid through the UK for some serious pwnage - oh and i might then be able to afford a hitman to sort out the world's bush problem. - groovechamp30, on 11/07/2007, -0/+8Not as obese as America, but getting there.
- jmcin, on 11/06/2007, -0/+8Thanks for the laugh!
The value of a currency can _always_ fall lower
on topic though, she should request payment in Gold Bullion. That is something I don't see falling, at least not soon. - dagamer34, on 11/06/2007, -0/+8I want to be paid in Google shares.
- dianebl, on 11/06/2007, -0/+8You're assuming she gets paid on the same day she agrees to provide the service. If it was instant, or within a few days, then you'd have a point.
But models sign contracts weeks or months in advance. If she agrees to a contract for $100,000 to be paid in 6 months, and the dollar slides by 5% in that time, then she's lost $2500. - lien, on 11/06/2007, -0/+8I like when someone who took Econ 101 as a general their freshman year try to show off their vast knowledge on economics.
- Narrator, on 11/07/2007, -0/+8Recently a guy paid wages in U.S Gold Bullion Coins. Then reported the income as the face value of the coins. The IRS was really upset with him but failed to win their case because these were government issued coins he used that were circulated in the 19th century:
Google for "Robert Kahre" "Las Vegas" 'Coin Wages' - dianebl, on 11/06/2007, -0/+7No, because she refuses to provide the service in the first place unless you agree to provide payment in the currency of her choice. It's part of her contract.
- acidbathfan, on 11/06/2007, -0/+7This isn't to shocking, when I lived overseas there were many foreign subcontractors that did not want to be paid in Dollars, they either wanted Euro's or their own national currency. Hell 3-4 years ago you would have to give up roughly 3 American Dollars just to get 1 Kuwaiti Dinar.
The sad thing is that a lot of people are just now waking up to the dollars decline that has been sliding slowly toward the gutter for years, and a lot of heehaw's still don't want to accept the fact that it's in serious trouble as a world currency. - gregnorc, on 11/06/2007, -1/+8Here's how bad the dollar is... I'm traveling to Africa with a study abroad program over Christmas break... we layover in Paris since there are no direct flights from the USA to Benin. We have been instructed to change all the money we'll need for Benin into Euros when we're there, because the currency traders flat out refuse to accept US dollars.
That's right: Not even remote african villages want US Dollars. - alienmad, on 11/06/2007, -0/+7You think that's bad?
In the UK, it's roughly £1/liter ($2). 3.8 liters/gallon, so £3.80/gallon ($7.60).
-.- - AzBats, on 11/06/2007, -0/+650p piece and other non circular coinage.
