- Bamshackle, on 04/15/2008, -7/+58Ok 1, 2, 3 go! Internet take down Sears!
- ennTOXX, on 04/15/2008, -5/+53Surprise surprise, Sears is hurting BIG time & that could be the reason they HOPE Tom takes a back seat & forgets he never got the TV. I hope he gets his money back. I never go to Sears anymore... :||
- Rikkochet, on 04/15/2008, -0/+34Craftsman tools, baby!
- inactive, on 04/15/2008, -9/+39...and I refuse to refund the $31.57 to your mother, for the orgasm I never delivered after dinner. (in a Sean Connery voice)
- mytibt, on 04/15/2008, -0/+291. Go back to Sears
2. Purchase full line of Craftsman products
3. Proceed to "remodel" the store - czeman, on 04/15/2008, -5/+33I guess it might not be a smart idea to charge large purchases to a store's own credit card. You give up any chances of initiating a charge-back.
- jtscira, on 04/15/2008, -1/+27Why did he pay for the second TV vs getting credit or paying the difference? Something is not right on both sides!
- LTSVN, on 04/15/2008, -10/+32With the power of Digg, Sears will give in.
- fkr3, on 04/15/2008, -1/+22Didn't you hear? When you click the "digg" button god saves a puppy, puts a winning lottery ticket in front of a homeless man and makes a bullet in Iraq miss a child. THAT'S WHAT WE DO HERE PEOPLE!!!!
- DiggMasterJ, on 04/15/2008, -2/+21What really happened: The money was refunded but the dispute was rejected.
How? He calls the card company and files a dispute, while it is processing he goes to the store and throws a fit. The manager credits his card for said amount. Guy goes home and forgets all about it. Then the card company, let's call them the bank, sends a letter stating that the dispute has been rejected. Having an IQ of less than 100, this guy thinks that Sears has decided to keep his money after all.
Buried. - inactive, on 04/15/2008, -1/+17Actually, Kmart bought Sears.
http://money.cnn.com/2004/11/17/news/fortune500/se ... - kinseyincanada, on 04/15/2008, -0/+14why would someone buy another TV when he knows he had not been refunded for the last one?
- jbschusty, on 04/15/2008, -4/+16Why does the Consumerist's supposed 'user submitted' letters ALWAYS sound like they're written by the same person. Their site is so packed full of ***** I can't even bother to read more than the first few sentences anymore. I used to visit all the time, but I have since caught their rhythm.
For a site that supposedly has your back, why do they insist on playing their readers? - geneticlemon, on 04/15/2008, -2/+134. ????
5. Profit! - Nealobus, on 04/15/2008, -10/+21I have had it with Sears! I purchased a brand new dryer from them at Christmas and at 93 days after purchase the dryer quit. Since it was past 90 days they said there was nothing they could do. I have learned if I have to purchase high ticket items, like appliances or televisions, I take my business to a local mom & pop shop where appreciate the customer.
The only thing that Sears is good for is ample space in the mall parking lot during the holiday. That's it! - TobiasParker, on 04/15/2008, -1/+12It isn't what you say, but how you say it.
- bobartig, on 04/15/2008, -0/+11Petty theft is usually under $400. This could qualify as grand theft.
- wibambau, on 04/15/2008, -0/+11Oh man, Sears is poised to lose a whole lot of internets.
- Tenlow, on 04/15/2008, -1/+11I was actually thinking that, I just bought some more of those the other day.
- staeiou, on 04/15/2008, -3/+11The card is a Sears card. The store was Sears. You really think they will initiate a charge back on themselves?
- Tearlock, on 04/15/2008, -1/+9This is why I will never use a store credit card unless it carries the Visa or MC symbol. If the store burns you there's no possible arbitration otherwise.
- lostarchitect, on 04/15/2008, -1/+8well said.
- travis1982, on 04/15/2008, -5/+12Customer service, in virtually every major retailer, has degraded to such a point that it's easily considered criminal. I have had 2 of the same horror stories. First was with Alienware, I think its actually rated as the worst company in regards to customer service. I ordered a $5000 laptop which was 2 months late in delivery, when I finally received it, the screen stopped working after 2 days. I ordered in July hoping that I would of had it in time for school, but no...received it early september and had to send it back for repairs. It actually took 2 weeks of phone calls in order to talk to someone who can help with the return policy, after a while I said forget just give me my money back and I'll take my buisness elsewhere, they said they can't do that because the 30 day money back guarantee is expired, but that was because Alienware was a month and half late in delivering it. After countless days of yelling at these idiots, which were all of Latin decent and could barely speak english, I had to give in. So i sent it back for repairs, after paying the shipping costs, and then received it back 3 weeks later. It works like a charm now but Jesus Christ, I couldn't beleive the criminals working there. The other time was with BESTBUY!, Stupid bestbuy, I bought a knock-off 42 inch plasma and bought the 5 year warranty as well thank god, after barely a year some chip inside blew and the pixels were all ***** up, so I called bestbuy looking for a repair or replacement, as it says in the warranty. So they sent over a technician they had outsourced to look over the TV, it me that there is obviously something wrong with it, yet told bestbuy that its actually fine...wtf? After 2 months of telling Bestbuy that he lied , they sent over another one...guess what..he did the exact same thing. So I called back the call center and gave them *****, demanded to speak to the supervisor, which they refused untill I had called about 30 times annoying the ***** out of everyone. I FINALLY spoke to a supervisor with a brain and he looked over my case, the bestbuy goons who talked with the technician had purposely altered both technician reports supposedly, so the supervisor apologized and allowed me a replacment. When I went to BestBuy, all the employees knew who I was because they got in so much ***** from the supervisor I talked to. In the end I they gave me a Samsung 42' HD Plasma, which was more expensive then the original knock-off. They told me that in the future, to pleaaase try and talk to someone inside the store rather than the Call-center. Everyone I know has at least one of these horror stories, retailers are replacing quantity with quality. My advice? Don't give up on calling the call-centers, and try to keep your sanity intact. Oh and don't call the customer service people "stupid god damn mexicans", gets you know where.
- inactive, on 04/15/2008, -2/+9Yeah...because that mom and pop store would have fixed it out of their own pockets!
Riiiight.
So, go buy it from a local mom and pop store. Pay 30% more for it, and when you have a problem, pray that they haven't gone out of business yet. - lostarchitect, on 04/15/2008, -1/+8buckfudder. i think you know, trebeck.
- WoollyMittens, on 04/15/2008, -1/+8You have to sign for that *****. They don't just leave it at the roadside. Ever ordered anything?
- dafunkmonster, on 04/15/2008, -0/+7I believe he's talking about the interest that his $1070.74 is accruing on his sears card. If I remember correctly from my days working at sears, it was just over 20% interest, compounded monthly.
- klick37, on 04/15/2008, -4/+11The Consumerist is really starting the bother me. I like Sears, even if this is totally true, it wont stop me from shopping there when it strikes my fancy.
- diggerphelps, on 04/15/2008, -0/+6I don't get this.
Why did he pay the charge card bill for a TV he never received, then go back to the same store and buy another TV and pay the bill for that one? I am assuming he pays his bill in full at the end of the cycle, since he did not claim otherwise.
Sorry, but there's something rotten in Denmark.
I also have my doubts that a retailer would ever issue a raincheck for a Black Friday item.
That's pretty much the antithesis of Black Friday sales practices, but what do I know.
I stay home on that day. - jmhyer51, on 04/15/2008, -0/+6"Oh and don't call the customer service people "stupid god damn mexicans", gets you know where."
You should have said that in the first place. I'd have known to stop reading. - dafunkmonster, on 04/15/2008, -0/+6What a coincidence...I worked at that Chesterfield Mall Sears location once upon a time. It was one of my first jobs in high school. Come to think of it, I quit after working 80 hours there, because they refused to pay me for my first 50 hours. Perhaps its time to file that complaint with the BBB.
- GetShorty, on 04/15/2008, -1/+7IIRC, it's actually a Citibank card with a Sears logo on it.
- cheesypasta, on 04/15/2008, -0/+6Why wouldn't he ask for any interest they have charged him? It's not clear if he has payed off the balance with interest.
- bobsaysblah, on 04/15/2008, -0/+6But here the credit card company and the "crooks" are the same. Charging the TV to a Sears credit card wasn't the best idea.
- travis1982, on 04/15/2008, -0/+5opps...too long?
- inactive, on 04/15/2008, -1/+6Before being internet tough guy and making yourself look like a ***** gullible ass, how about we wait to see if this is yet ANOTHER one of those Consumerist stories that tirns out to be complete *****?

- cklein121, on 04/15/2008, -1/+6I didn't know people still shopped at Sears...
- kennyg1055, on 04/15/2008, -3/+8Your both idiots & didnt read the article. He purchased it on his sears card & they denied the dispute.
- inactive, on 04/15/2008, -3/+8I have never read a more delusional comment ever.
I SERIOUSLY hope that you don't think that ANYONE of importance actually gives a ***** about Digg. Or that anyone of real importance has even HEARD of Digg. - ingxia, on 04/15/2008, -0/+5Agreed, that came to mind too.
- cheesypasta, on 04/15/2008, -1/+6I f'ing hate Sears. Several years back, I bought a new garage door opener as a Christmas present for my mom and the installation service along with it. Sears double charged my c.c. for the service. We decided to get a refund for the service altogether and have someone we know install it. Sears removed one charge but not the other. Talked to customer service many times, even a manager and they refused to acknowledge the double charge, even with proof on my bank statement. I f'ing hate Sears.
- sb07, on 04/15/2008, -0/+5initially complain, digg up, THEN corporate justice. standard procedure. it's just how it works these days.
- fkr3, on 04/15/2008, -1/+5Who forgets dropping a grand on something??? It's not exactly a dollar auction on eBay.....
- pauleric, on 04/15/2008, -1/+5Maybe because we're only getting one side of the story, just like that story about the guy who stole soda pop a couple days ago (and most everyone was blaming the police). I know I wouldn't wait >4 months to get a $1000 item or my money back. I might wait 2 or 3 weeks with a good explanation. If Sears isn't responding, charge back the card, or if you can't do that, take them to small claims court.
Of course, maybe this guy is telling the whole truth with no inconvenient details left out. But who knows? - blu3bird, on 04/15/2008, -0/+4i wanna see a mom and pop washing machine store first.
- ngmcs8203, on 04/15/2008, -0/+4We just bought a vacuum from them and I bought a set of tools from them last week. So we do?
- fkr3, on 04/15/2008, -0/+4Doesn't Visa or Mastercard or whoever they're reselling still have the final say?
