Online Disgrace: Angry Customers Use Web to Shame Firms
washingtonpost.com — As angry clients increasingly turn to the Internet to settle scores, companies, independent retailers and everyday wrongdoers are learning that consumers can have the last word -- and often the last laugh. The Web has turned into a place where shame and humiliation are sometimes the strongest weapons in fighting scams and unfairness.

- mikewilsonuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Before doing business with a company I haven't used before, I sometimes do a google search on "[insert company name] sucks". You can learn a lot that way. For a while, I had a very active thread on my blog titled "tiscali sucks" (Tiscali are a cheap & nasty European ISP). Several people told me they wished they had seen my thread before signing a 12 month contract. More on-line shaming of dismal service will hopefully keep greedy & incompetent companies watching their backs. Of course, the smart ones will have fake "company rocks" sites. And I was surprised Tiscali never sent me a cease & desist.

- tungsai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I've often dreamed of a site where consumers could go to do this sort of thing...
I used to think that epinions.com did that sort of thing, but they appear to have sold out. - otherland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The Internet is a great equalizer. No need for big government when the citizens are vigilant.
- ctb10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Also for employees. I had trouble getting paid by my employer and published something about it to the internet. One of his investors found it and the ***** hit the fan. I no longer work for the company (quit) but employer threatened to sue me for libel and slander. My checks stopped bouncing though :)
