- Kiryuu, on 06/29/2008, -5/+38A mini laptop would be good if it has all the features a normal computer would have
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -1/+27No, it will not. Dell, Hp and all major manufacturers will produce their own mini laptops. Also, not all users are ready to use a smaller keyboard. It will certainly be a nice alternative however.
- anshuman, on 06/29/2008, -2/+17well , do you mean crysis WOW and valve playing 'normal' computer? computer user don't consist of game-playing kids any more ( as major demographic user ).
people using email and online shopping, online banking websites and using voip etc are now the major user-base now and this mini-laptops are normal enough for them. - Phillyzero, on 06/29/2008, -1/+15Seriously...I'd settle for a 12 inch laptop over any kind of EEE or Wind etc... Laptops are meant to be portable, sure, but there has to be a standard of functionality. I'm 'fairly' sure after the dust settles in a couple years the happy medium of laptop sizes will be around 10-13 inches in screen size, any smaller and a lot of the older generation will begin to strain.
- mightycbu, on 06/29/2008, -5/+19if you want full-size features, just buy a full-size laptop
- funkytommyman, on 06/29/2008, -1/+12I almost bought the EeePc until I tried typing for a few minutes. The buttons are much to small for the average adult males hands. The HP Mini-Note PC, however, is just as tall, but also widescreen, producing wider keys for typing, yet still remaining light and portable.
- ccxftw, on 06/29/2008, -0/+9It looks like this race will heat up with the MSI Wind and Dell E Slim coming soon.
- life38, on 06/29/2008, -0/+9Why would Price not drive a race to lower laptop costs in a big way?
- gridbread, on 06/29/2008, -1/+9Yeah, the Eee did well because of it's low price, a few other companies are releasing sub-notebooks but they all have heftier price tags.
I expect them to have mediocre sales when compared to the Eee, which basically sold well with the same idea that rocketed he Wii. - mojofrojo, on 06/29/2008, -0/+6The Air model they are about to bring out should alleviate that problem somewhat. I finally got some time with a EEEpc this weekend and I was turned off by the keys also. Hoping the air will fit my giganto hands
- Skitals, on 06/29/2008, -3/+8Guess I'm 4 years ahead of the curve with my Vaio TR2. It's crazy that after all this time people still comment on it when I pull it out (that's what she said).
- deMonkey, on 06/29/2008, -3/+8How often do you really use an optical drive these days anyway?
- jjpertusch, on 06/29/2008, -0/+5wooooowwww. come to think about it i WOULD like my electronics to be a bit smaller. how insightful. i wonder why they just thought of this now.
- Kerath, on 06/29/2008, -0/+5Your laptop was $150?
- cheeseplease, on 06/29/2008, -0/+5They fit in your regular backpack and weigh a lot less, which results in you taking the thing everywhere without thinking about it. For me those two advantages might push me into buying my first ever laptop: I like desktops much better than laptops as they just work much more efficiently, but having this cute and cheap little laptop as the portable sidekick of my desktop sounds pretty tempting.
- passedoutghost, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4I like to watch dvd's on my laptop in bed :D
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -0/+4wow - Vincent Price is dead - can't you leave him alone!?!?!??!
- tian2992, on 06/29/2008, -0/+4I think this is a news article instead of an image…
- CaviMike, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3I'm still trying to figure out in what part of the land someone would pronounce 'might' as 'mine'
- synthaxx, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3Your wallet better be equally gigantic then.
- cutchyacokov, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3I like to stream movies from my desktop onto my EeePC using SSHFS, so that I can watch them as long as I am connected to my own network (read: from bed) or at least listen to my music collection if I have to use it over the internet.
:p to physical media. - prodigy13, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3As long as the competition is there, the price will go down. Hopefully this market will not stagnate because of lack of interest; although I don't see that happening in the future.
- inactive, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3Here are some articles about the new Dell mini:

http://www.ideastorm.com/recent/articles - thund3rstruck, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3Solid State drive and a 15 hour battery life is perfect for me. Nothing irritates me worse that my laptop battery going dead in the first 2 hours of a 12 hour cross Atlantic flight. If I could read my e-books, comics, and watch Tivo recordings for the entire duration of a flight, I'd be the happiest man on Earth.
- cheeseplease, on 06/29/2008, -1/+4It's time to think of a new (smaller) keyboard layout, the 50+ key qwerty system just doesn't work anymore on today's portable computers.
- argylesocks, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3I just got the HP mini-note but its fatal flaw is that it cant run the Vista Business addition is comes with well enough. Ill be putting Ubuntu or Xubuntu on it so I can speed up the time it takes from off to note taking.
- solid12345, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3I hear there be little-people in third world countries.
- jamestwisleton, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3I love my Eee! I've never bought something that I've used so much. If you have a good computer and wifi you can just use it as a surrogate for your main computer. The keyboard takes a bit of getting used to but once you get used to it you can type just as fast as on a normal size keyboard. The harddrive doesn't have to be a limitation you can just stream music/video from your main computer (and put a good amount of stuff on an SD card if you can get one of those too :P)
- argylesocks, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2I keep it in my backpack at all times for note taking and internet access.
- pauls88, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2everyone in amsterdam has these, stoners always set the trends.
- muleskinner, on 06/29/2008, -2/+4I honestly like the size of normal laptops these days. I just don't understand the popularity of micro laptops. If I wanted something that strains my eyes and is hard to type on, I'd get a blackberry.
- earlycj5, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2The keyboard is more than fine, it's nicer than the Acer I just had that had a 15" screen. It's one of the best laptop keyboards I've used.
- GirlsCallMeMatt, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2I'm actually using my ultra-portable while reading this (hp nc4000) its pretty good, only 3.5 pounds and 12.1 inches across...I love it. I just wished it had a better graphics card but I don't really mind that the cd drive is external because I download anything I wanna watch. So really, no complaints here, it more than suffices for my everyday needs and when I want to game, I use my PC.
- argylesocks, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2I just got the HP Mini-Note (subnotebook) and the keyboard is fine. Yes its hp but this new breed of computers will change the game game completely.
- mblaser, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2*BUZZ* Wrong. Both the new EEEPC's (901 and 1000) and the MSI Wind get 5-6 hours of battery life.
- aguraki, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2lol. you use a pouch.
- tian2992, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2My old iBook kicked some serious ass compared to the computers at the time and is still a quite good computer. The only disadvantage i see is that it was too heavy… (thanks to the magnesium chasis)
- Aitese, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2I think you're thinking of the more expensive UMPC's not these budget netbooks.
- solid12345, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2And how long until you buy a PDA so you don't have to carry around your HP mini-note?
Then it will move to a pencil and paper
And then... - Aurabolt, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2Just remote in to your monster machine with a mini-laptop. That's why I want one
- CaviMike, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2I love these things and I want one.
- Snakedal337, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1I'm looking into getting a Wind for college if the keyboard is bigger than the Eees. My thinkpad would work fine but the Wind would be a lot easier to carry with all the text books etc
- Khast, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1I see the miniaturization of the laptops to be more of an evolution of the Pocket PC and Palm, rather than an evolution of the Laptop. The miniature laptops have limited functionality in most cases, much smaller storage space (Time will tell, as SSD comes into full swing.)
I myself am looking at getting a EeePC for doing some of the work my current computer does, and possibly upgrading to a newer computer for games, and video editing. - inactive, on 06/29/2008, -2/+3Mine as well juss get a palm, besides how is a fat man suppose to type on that thing, he'd press 4 buttons with one finger.
- rancidpony, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1The products:
http://eeepc.asus.com/global/product.htm
I can't seem to find the $300 job. - mblaser, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1The only feature you'd be lacking is an optical drive. Personally, I can't remember the last time I used one on my old 15" laptop. And if you ever do need an optical drive, just map the one on your desktop across the network.
- BrendanSheehan, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1The next big change will be a useable (extremely thin) tablet computer.
- latova, on 06/29/2008, -0/+11. The computer has always been formost a tool, not a gaming platform.
2. It's not just "kids" who play computer games. - Khast, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Uh, most UMPCs have less than 40GB storage. (And we are only talking about the ones which can run Vista.)
Laptops ≠ mini laptop 90% of the mini laptops have 1GHz or less processors, 4-16GB storage, 1GB RAM. And UMPC (Mini Laptop) are not upgradeable in any way shape or form, everything is hard wired on board to save on power, and size. - JohnLawson, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1My regular sized laptop, the compaq armada lasts 9 hours with battery life only.
The catches are, it's old, it's slow, and has three battery slots.
But being able to sit in a coffee shop without worrying about your battery life....
priceless. -
