- luke123, on 10/10/2007, -1/+42It's bad enough that movie theaters have become the bastion of television commericals (let's all revolt!!!) and overpriced candy and sodas ($5.00 for a Pepsi?), but now we have to be subjected to movie exectutive's OCD? I'm buying a plasma television and staying home.
- lieutenantmudd, on 10/10/2007, -3/+29Shouldn't they be more concerned about their own employees who make telesyncs instead of audience members making CAMs? I never download CAMs, the TS is usually only a day or two behind it.
- Rikushix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21It was the Invasion...the Invasion of your Privacy! *creepy music*
- cankillar, on 10/10/2007, -7/+26In Soviet Russia, film watches YOU.
It had to be done. - HUKI365, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21I'm sorry, we're blaming Christians for bad seats at movie theaters now?
- pipedreambomb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13No, groups of any people in large numbers.
- openthink, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12this is definitely an unfriendly consumer approach! used to know people at warner who said this kind of thing was being considered, and at all the studios. they're acting like freakazoid police....instead of focusing on giving the consumer a positive value-added experience, they create unpleasantness and fear. i agree about the commercials. you finish with those things sometimes and feel like you're ready to leave, it's taken so much time. why bother going to the theater -- too expensive, too many commercials, too much hassle.
- prince87x, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12lol, actually in Ecuador they use the USD buddy. thank you for digging me down when you have no idea what your talking about.
- FireAtWill, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11So hold on...I pay $10 for a movie. Pay absurd amounts for candy and soda...then on top of that I am forced to watch a slideshow of commercials then full-motion commercials. Steven Soderbergh has the right idea - simultaneous release is the way to go. The reason some download new releases is because they hate the theatre environment; why not present individuals with an option?
- dattaway, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I'd rather watch a pirated version at home than sit in a movie theater being recorded by a spook.
- LilJimmyNordin, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Pirating that piece of ***** movie is it's own punishment.
- Lionhart, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Actually movie theaters make most of their money on concessions. They make almost nothing on ticket sales. Most of that goes to studios. That's why concessions are so expensive :p
- dukeeeey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8just turn up late and you'll miss the crap at the beginning of the film :p
and you can always sneak in your own treats :] - vader101, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7This is copyrighted movie for Time Warner.
If I find that you've sold it on eBay,
I will break into your house
and tear your wife in half.
/best song ever/ - PATSCRU, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11yeah but then you'll end up sitting waaay in front because some overzealous mom or church group reserved entire rows for their peoples. i have to show up earlier to the movies because if i end up with a ***** seat, i'll be pissed off the whole movie. Catch 22.
- UtahApocalyse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5All this will do is keep me on bittorrent.
- t0ny, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Or sneak in and then buy candy and stuff with the ticket money. :)
- grantmoore3d, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5He was probably just some old creepy guy who has a fetish for young couples making out in movie theatres.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5That IS creepy - he actually paid money to see "The Invasion"?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6looks like that plan worked well...
http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3778019/The.Invasion.CAM.XviD-CAMERA - Yang1205, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5They should be more concerned with Superbad, that movie crushed the Invasion.
- Bob042, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6So umm...
1. Get contracted by time warner.
2. Legally have a camera on a tripod in each movie you go to.
3.???
4. Profit! - prince87x, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6@the price thing, I recently took a trip to Ecuador and the IMAX there was like $3.00 to get in and then for a whole nacho + drink meal it was something like another $2.00 or $3.00. It is rediculous that up here we have to pay so much to get in and then another as you said $5.00 for a pepsi.
- CatsAreGods, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Wait...isn't it illegal to bring a video camera into a movie theater now?
Can't have it both ways, guys :-) - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6People still go to the movie theater?
- SaintDogbert, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5The studios aren't actually filming you. They're using night vision equipment to look for pirates with cameras. (To the movie studios, pirates with cameras are scarier than pirates with cutlasses!) Still lame and still a waste of time, but not ZOMG!! They're filming us watch the movie! Invasion of privacy!
- abeg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Yo stop at that deli, the theater's overpriced.
You got the backpack? (Gonna pack it up nice.)
Don't want security to get suspicious.
Mr. Pibb and Red Vines equals Crazy Delicious. - grantmoore3d, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4That's basically the reason I will download a movie, I don't want to put up with the crap in the theater unless it's a movie that is worth seeing on the big screen. (which there are few as of late).
- EntangledPhysx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yes. Its good to get out and be around other people.
- marm0t, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If people had the option, Theaters would die out. Thousands of teenagers would be jobless and the economy would crumble! Kids could not afford to buy their Nintendo Wiis and Xbox 360s, and would resort to gang violence and drug use!
Seriously though, I'd never go to a theater again if I could buy a movie the same day it would be shown in theaters. - shadowspawn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I filmed people filming me while watching a film. It was the transformers, I brought in a camera that looked like Soundwave, said I was a fan. All I did was film those filming everyone else; it's not just the WB.
- DarthMalcontent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Get back at them: Make a custom T-shirt. Trademark the design. Wear the T-shirt to the theater. Let them tape you. Sue them for infringing on your intellectual property rights.
- mrminty, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Oh noes! Where am I going to get *****, shaky cam torrents now?
- pipedreambomb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Yes, he really fell neatly into that trap no one set for him.
- LordBalderdash, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3they were probably using it more for nightvision purposes than actual videotaping. videocameras equipped with nightvision are cheaper than the goggles. still creepy (and pointless), but they probably weren't doing any actual taping.
- nectom, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4um, you just did.
- souluos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I have a 58" Wide format HDTV and high dollar surround sound system. I haven't been to the movies in 3 years, so the money I have saved on 5 dollar pepsi's have almost paid for it. All jokes aside aside from advertisements (that arent reducing prices for any of us) the movie theater customer is really what has ruined it for me. People are too damn rude anymore. I don't want to hear other peoples color commentary during a film, which happens all to often. People kicking the back of my chair is also really aggravating. Cell Phones during films is great also :( I think the theatres could do more to regulate this stuff, maybe it would make the experience better. Currently, I get it at home and would be hardpressed to go back.
- brotherfranciz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Nah, there's an update: the "thug" was wearing night vision goggles.
- h4mx0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Filming while The Invasion huh?
Don't fall asleep. - joegibes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21. If you're smart you should be able to see an over-hyped movie a mile away (or at least not follow the hype)
2. Tell them to get a nice big cup of STFU
3. Phones shouldn't be allowed in theatres, but if you see one, refer to #2.
4. How can it be "popcorn" (with quotes) when it's corn that's popped? It's still popcorn! Or just wear pants with cargo pockets (or bring a purse).
5. Go during less busy hours (i.e. not opening day or at night) and be nice to the workers.
6. Refer to #2 and #5.
The good part is movies! - Cykaos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Just because Ecuador uses the USD doesn't mean it has the same value as our USD. Even the value of our USD changes from city to city and state to state. Go buy a house in Nebraska and then buy the same size house in San Fransisco and tell me that they cost the same.
You can buy a lot more in ecuador with $10 than you can in the US with the same $10. Same goes for El Salvado that also uses the USD. I dugg you down because I know exactly what I am talking about. I have a degree in international business with a latin american focus. - gossipninja, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2funny...so long as you are joking.
- bemenaker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Everyone bring a laser pointer and shine it in his camera lens.
- YossarianDent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This has been going on for :years: - if I remember correctly, measures similar to this were taken to "prevent" piracy at the Hulk and one or two other "big" movies when I worked at a theater back in '02-'04. Are people just now noticing it?
- actorboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2As if you considered abandoning it.
- PiMPSP, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2OH MY GOD!! is this a real story that was posted to the comsumerist..even though not much of a story..still better then most of the BS they post
- Dustin00, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You left out: the crying baby, the ***** with a cell phone, the smoker that rushes in at the last second and sits next to you, the parents bringing/traumatizing their 6 year old at the R/NC-17 film, the teens sending text messages, and the two teenagers talking the whole time cuz they've sat through it 4 times already and they're bored.
- thcobbs, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4"overzealous mom or church group"
Don't omit part of a statement because you don't like it -
