- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -20/+146don't generalize all of UPS just because one employee
- mseneschal, on 10/25/2007, -10/+111The UPS driver didn't want to get fleas from that friggin' yard. I don't blame him for throwing that ***** and running.
- LaSepultura, on 10/25/2007, -3/+96I love the backspin he put on the package. Just an extra "***** you" to the recipient.
- TehSoM, on 10/25/2007, -2/+92Yeah, the UPS guys where I live (SoCal) are great. They casually walk to the door, place the box at the front steps, and then ring the doorbell. No rushing, no throwing, etc. They ALWAYS ring the doorbell. I think its required or something.
- mrurc, on 10/25/2007, -6/+58My UPS guy's name is Jose. He has an amazing memory and recognizes me on the street and flags me down to deliver packages to my house, even when they are for my boyfriend who hardly ever gets any packages. Jose would never toss a package at my door, although the mailman and DHS have. (Once I thought there was an earthquake but it was a cake thrown at my door. EARTHCAKE!) He knows that I sleep in and he only delivers to me in the afternoon! He always says "Hi Jennifer! How are you doing today? Hard at work?"
I am sad whenever I have a package delivered by someone other than Jose. I mean, it's one thing for a guy to bring packages to my house and to have me remember his name but for him to see me on the street and remember who I am and who my boyfriend is? I hope he donates his sweet little memory-filled brain to science.
And I hope that science can not drag out all of the images of me coming down my steps in my pajamas. - wigren, on 10/25/2007, -2/+54I just watched a porn with that exact same plot outline
- Upas, on 10/25/2007, -2/+50I think Jose might be looking to replace your boyfriend... you admire him so much.
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -1/+48Jose is just waiting to deliver his special package. It's addressed to your vagina.
- MasterThief117, on 10/25/2007, -2/+44I thought it was going to be like Ace Ventura.
- jtb4, on 10/25/2007, -0/+32My UPS driver's name is also Jose. I think he might be cheating on me with some bitch named Jennifer.
- FunkyPits, on 10/10/2007, -4/+34Almost all my UPS packages come looking like they were allowed to be used as hump toys for an irate, horny gorilla. Crushed sides, peanuts leaking out of the box, and generally I am just glad when I pull out my purchase and see it still works. Still won't dig this though as consumerist is flaky at best.
- blahtastic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+304 replaced 360s, supposed to sign for them all. Only had to for one or two, even though I was home for them all. If you're not standing at the ***** door right as that bell rings they just leave it there and forget about it. I know they have other stuff to deliver, but how the hell do you get back in the truck and disappear from sight in 30 seconds?
Also, I heard my 260 dollar Creative ZVM slam against the brick wall and porch, no ringing, no knocking. I knew it was coming that day, have to say, it made me wince a bit. Fortunately NewEgg packs their stuff well. - gyrfalcon, on 10/10/2007, -4/+30This video is absolute BS. You can see the UPS guy stop in the bushes cause they're not trimmed... The lazy SOB who video taped this can spend a $1000+ on video cameras but can't keep his yard in decent shape. Some of you should work for a postal carrier before you rail on the people who deliver your mail & packages.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26They must use finglongers to be able to ring the doorbell yet vanish so fast. The only question is, how did they acquire this year 3000 technology?
- Punisher2K, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26Well when you bang the UPS guy, he tends to handle the deliveries better.
- Hoinah, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26It really is based on location it seems, the UPS guys by me are always careful with my *****
- ScrewedThePooch, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24How is asking for a receipt for that stupid? How the hell are they supposed to verify that anything was sent if UPS loses it?
- brstilson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23I had the opposite experience. I live in an apartment complex where they wouldn't leave any packages at the door without you signing for them, even if you signed the back of the slip. I took off work early to get my package one day (I REALLY didn't want to have to drive all the way down to their service hub that opens for literally 1 hour a day at 9 pm). So I'm waiting, I'm waiting, waiting, and waiting. I decide to go outside to check it out. ANOTHER FREAKING NOTICE. They didn't even BOTHER to ring the bell.
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20The ones here do the same, except by the time you hear the doorbell and look out the window, they are gone without a trace.
- gerbilthemonkey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Ahh yes, that Jose is a dream.
- mxpx720, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20maybe your nephew shouldn't have been riding his trike in the middle of a street... you know, where people drive?
- N10E, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16I believe this is why they have been dubbed the "United Package Smashers"
- jdenzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Yeah the UPS drivers are so nice in my area. I once order some furniture and 2 UPS drivers not only delivered it to my front door, but they also brought it up 2 set of stairs. I didn't even ask them to, they offered to do it. And the UPS driver where I work delivers packages to the people, who live in town, to our work. How cool is that, expecting a package from home, the UPS guy will bring it to your work.
- Etchii, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Their drivers get paid over $20 an hour, most take it seriously for that kind of money. This guy won't last long.
- mabba18, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Or just take it to FedEX, and not deal with ***** like you.
- Awspire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14This sounds like the perfect opening for a "Dear Penthouse" letter.
- dragon76, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15You're the reason why every job imaginable is being outsourced. It's not "your store" unless you've bought a big chunk in UPS shares. Whether you ship 1 item or 1,000 you're still getting your hourly rate. If you think you can't be outsourced, you should look at how hard companies are lobbying for H-1B visas to be expanded. They're going to ***** outsource your false sense of entitlement ass right here.
- psevium, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14http://www.digg.com/videos/people/How_UPS_Really_Delivers_Your_Packages
What, did consumerist take it straight from digg? - xrisnothing, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15What a pair of idiots. UPS makes a ***** load off of Xbox 360 repairs. There are a total of three shipments made for this one transaction and Microsoft uses 3-day select for at least two of them. I didn't realize you two personally pocketed cash from every transaction that went on at UPS. That's called stealing from the register and it's illegal.
Stop taking your frustration at having zero employable skills out on the customers of the store you work for. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15No *****, I need a tetnis shot just from watching the video. (junkyard in the driveway) People have no shame!
- WilliamDavis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Yeah, it looks like he's been perfecting that throw for quite some time.
- moxley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Are you kidding? UPS drivers make pretty damn good money and benefits. You usually have to be a loader/unloader for several years before a spot opens up as a driver. Loading/Unloading for UPS is one of the hardest jobs I ever had. You work in the back of a large semi truck basically playing tetris with the packages. The goal is to create wall after wall of packages, fitting them together tightly so they don't shift, but not damaging them. This is why sometimes you get a box from UPS that has the corners crushed/smushed in - it was likely the last "block" in a load wall in a truck and was jammed in there.
There is no A/C or airflow in the back of those trucks, no airflow to speak of. In the summer they are ovens, in the winter they are iceboxes You get drenched in sweat in the summer, and then covered in dirt, dust, grease, adhesive and this "box dust" that is generated by hundreds of thousands of boxes moving through a facility in a day. It itches, burns and makes you break out.
Unloaders take those walls apart. It;s a marginally better job than loading, but they both suck...It's usually decent pay for unskilled part time work and has good medical benefits (or at least used to when I did it in the early 90s) SO the driver job pays really well for that type of job. ..
I run an IT department now, and we receive a lot of package from a female UPS driver who we used to think was a real bitch. We don't anymore, we love her, she is sweet and takes care of us. Here is a good tip: If you want to ensure that your packages are well taken care of all of the time, that the driver will help you, say, if you need to try to get something out overnight just past the deadline or in similar situations - take care of your regular driver. We give her a small Xmas bonus, invite her to company functions, order her lunch occasionally, let her use the restroom and cool off in our A/C on hot days for short breaks. I work for a very laid back technology company, some companies this may not be appropriate, but basically my point is that if you take good care of them (even if it;s just being polite) it can go a long way to ensuring they will go that extra mile for you. - longbow486, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11i just bought two 320Gb SATA drives and the box was crushed to hell, one of the drives didnt work :-( ***** UPS
- plbland, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14Dugg because that was just random...
- kernelhappy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10We don't have a problem with the UPS guy stopping at our house, he has plenty of time when he gets here. But I do feel bad for all the people he delivers to after he gets done banging my neighbors wife, he'll disappear into their house for a hour.
- tehpwnerofn00bs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10What can brown lazily do for you?
- jmreid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Wow, that Jose really did I number to you. Headboards cause brain damage, you know.
- iamgnat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I've had that happen. I just call them and bitch and they've sent the driver back the same day. Once the guy didn't come back till around 9pm and he was pissy about it. When I explained that he would have been home already if he did his job properly, his parting words were "***** you". I informed UPS and haven't seen him on that route since.
As far as this video goes, if you can't be bothered to keep your walk clear then don't expect me to bother trying to navigate it. I would have taken it back marked as undeliverable though and made them come get it. - geeshock, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Looks more like he was throwing it to someone.
- jcims, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I worked 9 months at a hub, loading, unloading, and sorting. It's the most physically demanding job i've ever had, we would work 4-6 hour shifts and i would regularly drink a gallon to a gallon and a half of water during the shift. Some packages get crushed in the beltwork, some fall from 25' off the belt to the floor (rarely), some get smashed while trying to build 'walls' in the trailer while loading...but by _far_ the most damage comes during unloading. It's just raw horsepower and in my introductory 'lesson', the guy i was with pulled down a wall of packages to get them loose so he could push them down to the belt. At the very top of the wall, probably 9-10' feet up, was a brand new JVC vcr (it's been a while). That thing came down on the top of the wall, slammed face first into the floor and bounced about 2' in the air. And it only got worse from there. :)
- moxley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Jennifer Baby....I told you, ya gotta keep this quiet, comprende? Geez, even bill (the driver for the neighborhood next to yours) could tell something was up when he read this. Now all the guys are making jokes like "who can brown do for you" and *****...It's not funny, I could lose my job.
Wha you said is true though....I think of those pajamas every night. The ones with the little bunnies on them that slide off so easily....We showed those bunnies a thing or two, remember?..heheh
I remember your boyfriend's face so well because I check his face for anger every time I see him, because I don't want to get my ass beat for our weekly "deliveries," and especially not for the ones I leave inside the back door.
So please....let's not ruin the fun.
---Signed: Jose - winmywii, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10That why I use FedEx
- bodger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9This is *****. How do I know? UPS don't use tricycles.
- dearsweetbriar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Here's an idea: some people don't sit in front of their doors all day waiting for a package that may or may not come. It's not easy for everyone to get to the front of the house in under the two point five seconds it takes them to turn on their heel and leave.
Don't you bother checking what kind of axe murderer and/or Mormon might be at your door before you blindly answer it?! - t0ken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7UPS Ninjas?
- Punisher2K, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7That's why I'm shipping a pissed off midget one day so he can bite you in your yam bag. You'll think twice next time after that happens.
- pheedback, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9No this is typing it out loud...
HE'S HAVING ALL HIS BLOW UP DOLLS SHIPPED FED EX! - NtroP, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7My UPS Driver knows my dog by name and always has a treat and a good scratch for him. He stops and chats if he has time and keeps up with what's happening with our lives and our kids. When we moved to a different neighborhood (on his route) and someone sent us a package to our old address, he dropped it off at our new house for us. He's great.
- kaffein, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Well since every website that embeds a youtube video is considered spam, skip it:

http://www.digg.com/videos/people/How_UPS_Really_Delivers_Your_Packages - tauntz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Wait a second.. you mean they are allowed to deliver packages and leave them at the door??? How insane is that? I mean.. I always have to sign for the stuff that I order - and if I'm not at home then they call me and ask when I'm home so they can bring it to me.. or I can just say that I'll go and pick the package up myself.
Maybe that's because I don't live in America.. or UK -
