How UPS Delivers When You're Not Watching
consumerist.com — Looks like somebody set up some security webcams on their house and managed to catch a UPS truck driver deliver a package... by chucking it against the door from several feet away. Sorry miss about your imported German porcelain dolls, but your walkway and lawn are really too unkempt to bother walking to your door.

- moofer, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Every time I leave a note asking UPS to leave a package on my back doorstep, they take the time to go around to my back yard and place the package where I asked them to - Label side up, nice and square to the house. If a package requires a signature, I leave a note stating that my next-door-neighbor works from home and is willing to sign. They always go over there and are very friendly about things. This guy should go drop the $19.95 at a home center for a pair of hedge trimmers.

- blahtastic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+304 replaced 360s, supposed to sign for them all. Only had to for one or two, even though I was home for them all. If you're not standing at the ***** door right as that bell rings they just leave it there and forget about it. I know they have other stuff to deliver, but how the hell do you get back in the truck and disappear from sight in 30 seconds?
Also, I heard my 260 dollar Creative ZVM slam against the brick wall and porch, no ringing, no knocking. I knew it was coming that day, have to say, it made me wince a bit. Fortunately NewEgg packs their stuff well.- longbow486, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2huh, my Creative ZVM was shipped via FedEx from NewEgg
- brstilson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23I had the opposite experience. I live in an apartment complex where they wouldn't leave any packages at the door without you signing for them, even if you signed the back of the slip. I took off work early to get my package one day (I REALLY didn't want to have to drive all the way down to their service hub that opens for literally 1 hour a day at 9 pm). So I'm waiting, I'm waiting, waiting, and waiting. I decide to go outside to check it out. ANOTHER FREAKING NOTICE. They didn't even BOTHER to ring the bell.
- iamgnat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I've had that happen. I just call them and bitch and they've sent the driver back the same day. Once the guy didn't come back till around 9pm and he was pissy about it. When I explained that he would have been home already if he did his job properly, his parting words were "***** you". I informed UPS and haven't seen him on that route since.
As far as this video goes, if you can't be bothered to keep your walk clear then don't expect me to bother trying to navigate it. I would have taken it back marked as undeliverable though and made them come get it.

Try working as a drivers assistance during the holidays and you'll discover how they bust ass.
- Hoinah, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26It really is based on location it seems, the UPS guys by me are always careful with my *****
- mikeybigg, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1Me thinks Beanstudd works for UPS and this may be a touchy subject :S
- brundlefly76, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Beanstudd is right - I applied there one time - its a VERY tough job to get - and although its a union job, it is indeed the tightest ship in the shipping business - you slack you're fired.
- unicronband, on 10/10/2007, -13/+7I work at a UPS Store, and I can tell you, not only does it happen, but it's fairly commonplace and actually allowed. The standard is, if you can drop a box 4 vertical feet without it breaking, it is sufficiently packaged (meaning customers should expect to have their packages dropped 4 feet pretty regularly). I can also say, when customers are being assholes, as soon as they're gone, those packages get punted like nobody's business. Word to the 360 owners. I see you guys in here every day. Just to let you know, our stores don't make ***** off those packages and basically are an inconvenience and piss us off. If you care about your system, come in with the box already to go, leave it on the counter and get the hell out. And don't ask for a receipt. Just a little word of advice.
- Klak, on 10/10/2007, -15/+3i used to work at a shipping store and i thought that we made like 1$ per package on those. i also hated when people asked for a receipt on those. i was always like "you didnt buy anything, there is no receipt." and those morons were like "what proof do i have that i sent it?" so ***** stupid.
- ScrewedThePooch, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24How is asking for a receipt for that stupid? How the hell are they supposed to verify that anything was sent if UPS loses it?
- unicronband, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Write down the tracking number.
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2A tracking number is hardly a receipt. Knowing it doesn't prove ownership, and as proof-of-commercial-event it is not something the customer has control over.
One of the biggest REASONS for a receipt is that the customer has something they can use as a kind of proof and which is within their control. Whether a remote system recognizes a unique ID? That's no receipt.
- ScrewedThePooch, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24How is asking for a receipt for that stupid? How the hell are they supposed to verify that anything was sent if UPS loses it?
- dragon76, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15You're the reason why every job imaginable is being outsourced. It's not "your store" unless you've bought a big chunk in UPS shares. Whether you ship 1 item or 1,000 you're still getting your hourly rate. If you think you can't be outsourced, you should look at how hard companies are lobbying for H-1B visas to be expanded. They're going to ***** outsource your false sense of entitlement ass right here.
- xrisnothing, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15What a pair of idiots. UPS makes a ***** load off of Xbox 360 repairs. There are a total of three shipments made for this one transaction and Microsoft uses 3-day select for at least two of them. I didn't realize you two personally pocketed cash from every transaction that went on at UPS. That's called stealing from the register and it's illegal.
Stop taking your frustration at having zero employable skills out on the customers of the store you work for.- unicronband, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1UPS does make a ***** off 360 repairs. The UPS Stores do not. UPS doesn't pay our checks. We are a franchise. UPS just makes us deal with 360 returns so they don't have to pay their own people to deal with them. We make a paltry 75 cents off each one of those packages AND have to deal with a nerd in gaming withdrawl so UPS doesn't have to send out a truck and do it themselves. Between the 360s and all the online, prepaid returns, the stores are losing a ***** of money. Ask anyone who works at one and they'll tell you that drop offs will kill this business. I'm just saying, if you need to drop off a package at a UPS Store, realize that if you aren't spending any money there, they don't consider you a customer. If you start getiing all demanding, you're asking to get your package punted.
- diktator279, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Which UPS Store do you work at? I'll make sure not to go there, wouldn't want to inconvenience you.
- mabba18, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Or just take it to FedEX, and not deal with assholes like you.
- proton, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I worked at UPS in a hub in my state packing boxes into the trucks. I can say that it is standard practice to treat the boxes fairly *****. This isn't company policy, of course, but company policy is that you have to get those packages packed FAST and TIGHT in the truck. This is more important than anything else, even the integrity of the packages. I've seen employees throw, stand on and in one case piss on packages (granted that one case done by a moron and would've been fired if caught). The employees were also nudge-nudge-wink-wink encouraged to break OSHA regulations in order to get everything loaded on time. Saw one fellow employee get his leg cut up pretty badly from climbing in the chutes to get stuck packages on the conveyors - this was officially not allowed but floor supervisors made you do it. Of course, he was fired without compensation for breaking OSHA regulations.
- jdenzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Yeah the UPS drivers are so nice in my area. I once order some furniture and 2 UPS drivers not only delivered it to my front door, but they also brought it up 2 set of stairs. I didn't even ask them to, they offered to do it. And the UPS driver where I work delivers packages to the people, who live in town, to our work. How cool is that, expecting a package from home, the UPS guy will bring it to your work.
- diktator279, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2That's because you have big Jugs.
- combatchuck, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I mean -- your boobs are huge!

- kernelhappy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10We don't have a problem with the UPS guy stopping at our house, he has plenty of time when he gets here. But I do feel bad for all the people he delivers to after he gets done banging my neighbors wife, he'll disappear into their house for a hour.
- ratsg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5UPS could break anvils
- dearsweetbriar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I DON'T generalize based on one employee -- I generalize based on a whole array of negative experiences with UPS (and don't discount the USPS who are even bigger asshats). Having noticed that the UPS guy at *three* of my different addresses ignores my signature on notices, or leaves them even when I'm sitting in the living room the whole time, without so much as knocking on the door, has possibly added to the bitter taste I get when things don't go right. Still, I have to admit that the only thing they have outright damaged to this day was a CD, and it was not packaged correctly, so I don't blame the UPS guy. I'm less upset about the treatment of my packages than the general refusal to leave a package where I ask it to be left, even after signing that ridiculous notice that never gets me anywhere. I'm even really friendly to the guy when I do happen to run into him on my way out the door!
I have had a good experience once...good being relative: After leaving two notices for my ipod, ignoring my signature on the back of the notice twice, and then indicating that now I'd have to go out in the middle of nowhere to pick up my package (I don't have a car, and there are no buses to this particular UPS branch), I managed to convince the very kind operator at customer service to arrange for the ipod to be delivered to a different address in 5-7 business days.
It was left on my doorstep, behind my screen door, the very next day.- DThatsMe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I hear ya. That's the same type of thing I've had to deal with over and over with them.
- jcims, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I worked 9 months at a hub, loading, unloading, and sorting. It's the most physically demanding job i've ever had, we would work 4-6 hour shifts and i would regularly drink a gallon to a gallon and a half of water during the shift. Some packages get crushed in the beltwork, some fall from 25' off the belt to the floor (rarely), some get smashed while trying to build 'walls' in the trailer while loading...but by _far_ the most damage comes during unloading. It's just raw horsepower and in my introductory 'lesson', the guy i was with pulled down a wall of packages to get them loose so he could push them down to the belt. At the very top of the wall, probably 9-10' feet up, was a brand new JVC vcr (it's been a while). That thing came down on the top of the wall, slammed face first into the floor and bounced about 2' in the air. And it only got worse from there. :)
- gyrfalcon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I agree with you mostly... the most physically demanding job I've ever had was in concrete repair. People don't realize how hard packages can be handles though and don't realize why it's that way.
I'm sure these same a-h0les would be complaining if it cost 10x as much to ship their package the way they want it to be treated. - proton, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I just posted similar above. I worked in loading at a hub for about a year - what a nightmare job. It makes me cringe to ever have packages delivered by UPS agian and just hope that my experience was not the norm. Building the walls damaged packages as well as unloading. Sometimes to build walls you had to stand on larger packages because there weren't enough step-stools provided. And no way in hell do you waste time to go find one because if you're not loading you get bitched out or worse.

- jtb4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Ordered a new laptop, was supposed to sign for it, had to go to work, came home- it was sitting there in that new shiny box with pictures and logos and stuff right out in plain site for anybody who wanted it. $3500 laptop. I was pissed, but glad.
- LordofShadows, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Off topic, but fedex just delivered some tires my bro ordered off ebay to a discount tire a couple of blocks away from where I live. -- And discount tire already sold them.

- TehSoM, on 10/25/2007, -2/+92Yeah, the UPS guys where I live (SoCal) are great. They casually walk to the door, place the box at the front steps, and then ring the doorbell. No rushing, no throwing, etc. They ALWAYS ring the doorbell. I think its required or something.
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20The ones here do the same, except by the time you hear the doorbell and look out the window, they are gone without a trace.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26They must use finglongers to be able to ring the doorbell yet vanish so fast. The only question is, how did they acquire this year 3000 technology?
- solonGFX, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6Here's an idea; instead of looking out the window, go straight to the door and answer it?
- dearsweetbriar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Here's an idea: some people don't sit in front of their doors all day waiting for a package that may or may not come. It's not easy for everyone to get to the front of the house in under the two point five seconds it takes them to turn on their heel and leave.
Don't you bother checking what kind of axe murderer and/or Mormon might be at your door before you blindly answer it?!

- tauntz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Wait a second.. you mean they are allowed to deliver packages and leave them at the door??? How insane is that? I mean.. I always have to sign for the stuff that I order - and if I'm not at home then they call me and ask when I'm home so they can bring it to me.. or I can just say that I'll go and pick the package up myself.
Maybe that's because I don't live in America.. or UK- fjc8, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's at the driver's discretion in my area. I wouldn't be too concerned about it where I live, and most UPS drivers have no problem leaving it in the garage, knocking on the door, and walking back to the truck. USPS and FedEx always go to the front door. The shipper (at least with FedEx) can require a signature.
- N10E, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I had my laptop ordered in and it was sitting on my front step in plain sight for 5 hours until I got home. Same deal with some books i got from Amazon. I was so totally freaked out both times because it could have rained, been stolen, etc.
- t0ken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5A friend of mine ordered a G5 and they dropped it on his front porch where it sat all day long. Love Apple, but sometimes having the contents printed hugely on the outside of the box seems like not such a good idea...
- NtroP, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7My UPS Driver knows my dog by name and always has a treat and a good scratch for him. He stops and chats if he has time and keeps up with what's happening with our lives and our kids. - doctechnical, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Not to mention all the crap he'd pick up going through those bushes. If it had rained recently, or there was a lot of dew, I recon I'd toss the box too rather than spend the next several hours feeling like I'd rolled in wet grass.

- moxley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Are you kidding? UPS drivers make pretty damn good money and benefits. You usually have to be a loader/unloader for several years before a spot opens up as a driver. Loading/Unloading for UPS is one of the hardest jobs I ever had. You work in the back of a large semi truck basically playing tetris with the packages. The goal is to create wall after wall of packages, fitting them together tightly so they don't shift, but not damaging them. This is why sometimes you get a box from UPS that has the corners crushed/smushed in - it was likely the last "block" in a load wall in a truck and was jammed in there.
There is no A/C or airflow in the back of those trucks, no airflow to speak of. In the summer they are ovens, in the winter they are iceboxes You get drenched in sweat in the summer, and then covered in dirt, dust, grease, adhesive and this "box dust" that is generated by hundreds of thousands of boxes moving through a facility in a day. It itches, burns and makes you break out.
Unloaders take those walls apart. It;s a marginally better job than loading, but they both suck...It's usually decent pay for unskilled part time work and has good medical benefits (or at least used to when I did it in the early 90s) SO the driver job pays really well for that type of job. ..
I run an IT department now, and we receive a lot of package from a female UPS driver who we used to think was a real bitch. We don't anymore, we love her, she is sweet and takes care of us. Here is a good tip: If you want to ensure that your packages are well taken care of all of the time, that the driver will help you, say, if you need to try to get something out overnight just past the deadline or in similar situations - take care of your regular driver. We give her a small Xmas bonus, invite her to company functions, order her lunch occasionally, let her use the restroom and cool off in our A/C on hot days for short breaks. I work for a very laid back technology company, some companies this may not be appropriate, but basically my point is that if you take good care of them (even if it;s just being polite) it can go a long way to ensuring they will go that extra mile for you.- CedEx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0All I read was... You get to play TETRIS?!?!
- auxplage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2UPS drivers make at least $50,000 a year . . . more like $70,000 after they have been there 15 years or so.
They are part of the Teamster's Union.

Bastards.. the watches case, wrapped in bubble wrap, got thrashed too.
- mrurc, on 10/25/2007, -6/+57My UPS guy's name is Jose. He has an amazing memory and recognizes me on the street and flags me down to deliver packages to my house, even when they are for my boyfriend who hardly ever gets any packages. Jose would never toss a package at my door, although the mailman and DHS have. (Once I thought there was an earthquake but it was a cake thrown at my door. EARTHCAKE!) He knows that I sleep in and he only delivers to me in the afternoon! He always says "Hi Jennifer! How are you doing today? Hard at work?"
I am sad whenever I have a package delivered by someone other than Jose. I mean, it's one thing for a guy to bring packages to my house and to have me remember his name but for him to see me on the street and remember who I am and who my boyfriend is? I hope he donates his sweet little memory-filled brain to science.
And I hope that science can not drag out all of the images of me coming down my steps in my pajamas.- Upas, on 10/25/2007, -2/+49I think Jose might be looking to replace your boyfriend... you admire him so much.

Dugg for that fact alone

- Upas, on 10/25/2007, -2/+49I think Jose might be looking to replace your boyfriend... you admire him so much.
- mrurc, on 10/10/2007, -30/+2My UPS guy's name is Jose.
And I hope that science can not drag out all of the images of me coming down the stairs in my pajamas.- jmreid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Wow, that Jose really did I number to you. Headboards cause brain damage, you know.
- moxley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Jennifer Baby....I told you, ya gotta keep this quiet, comprende? Geez, even bill (the driver for the neighborhood next to yours) could tell something was up when he read this. Now all the guys are making jokes like "who can brown do for you" and *****...It's not funny, I could lose my job.
Wha you said is true though....I think of those pajamas every night. The ones with the little bunnies on them that slide off so easily....We showed those bunnies a thing or two, remember?..heheh
I remember your boyfriend's face so well because I check his face for anger every time I see him, because I don't want to get my ass beat for our weekly "deliveries," and especially not for the ones I leave inside the back door.
So please....let's not ruin the fun.

- kprooney, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5for the MOST part I like UPS, but one time I nearly killed a man over a damaged package. I just bought a $200 motherboard for my computer and on the day it arrived I hear a thump against the glass pane on my door; and look out to see a ups truck driving away. I go to the door and theres the package with one corner smashed in and a hole torn in the side lying in the grass; it's a flipping delicate piece of electronics and you just toss it! Filed a complaint...thankfully my mobo works okay

Basically yes some make that much in both companys, but now they are totally hosing their benefits and retirement plans and trying to get the older guys out so they can hire kids at 13 bucks an hour. Thats why this crap happens. People who worked there for 20 years are making over 20 bucks an hour and do their job right, now you would have to work like 50 years to make 20+ bucks an hour. - tominabox1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6I have actually had a terrible delivery from UPS. I live on the second floor of a 4 unit apartment and we share a vestibule with stair and such. I ordered a camera ($500+) and I knew it was coming soon so I was waiting around the door ya know, and all of a sudden I hear the main door swing open, then a BANG on my door, then the main door swing open again. Apparently the guy just THREW the box up at my door. Good thing it was packed well!
Oh and the UPS stores suck major balls and I hate all things UPS.
GO US Postal Service!- bossm4n, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6US Postal Service? You must be kidding. UPS delivers packages beat to hell, but at least they get to their destination.
- fondlesackwi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2yea no *****!! ups has its flaws and all, but I'll take them anyday of the week over the usps

- sbo1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I have had numerous things delivered by both. USPS was fast, on time, and everything got there in one intact. UPS, well where do I start? Late, damaged, and I even had other peoples stuff delivered mixed in with my boxes. Many items were missing. Many were damaged. Trying to get them replaced was 10+ hours on the phone and not resolved very well. I know people in business who have major shipments and point blank refuse to use UPS. Just my experience?
- combatchuck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You must not have a balcony. Three points!
- geekcomputing, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2honestly , your package is thrown, dropped, bounced, hit, smacked, tossed, shifted , slammed against walls countless times. The crush index of most boxes is very high. As long as your not lazy and pad your shipments you should be fine.
otherwise you get what you deserve.- Rustbelt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well of course we deserve it. After all, we're paying someone for a service so we should just expect them to beat the hell out of our belongings while they have them in their possession. Hey, I should probably wrap it in plastic in case the UPS driver decides he needs to take a dump on it. It wouldn't do to be lazy with my packing techniques.
- Punisher2K, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'll remember that the next time I pack my own shipment from NewEgg to myself. *****.

- bossm4n, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8A sad day for geeks all over this country was the day Newegg switched to UPS as their default shipper. I have yet to receive a case from them since that isn't smashed to hell.
- squegie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What are you talking about? I get so many boxes from newegg. None of them have been crushed. Plus newegg goes above and beyond on packing. I can order a hard drive and a stick of ram.. and this gigantic box shows up. A shipment like that overflows my trashcan with packing peanuts. I have a room dedicated to junk (mostly construction supplies) and in addition to broken down boxes, it has bags and bags of packing peanuts. Almost all of them are from newegg. Whenever I think about it, i take another bag or two outside to the garbage. But you can only send so much out.
But no, the boxes themselves have been fine. My drive is no Jose, but he has flagged me down on the street when he has one of my packages.
Also, at my house I have a wooden/hinged flap for my porch and a pallet underneath. I request deliveries to be placed under that (through a sign on my mailbox). It works out pretty well with everyone except DHL. They just plop the box anywhere.

look familiar? - DCP707, on 10/10/2007, -6/+4HA HA HA I worked for UPS for over 2 years loading and unloading those trucks, you have no idea what your packages go through! lol I would throw a box twice that far in front of my managers all day long... actually kind of fun. Please if your shipping something fragile use lots of packing peanuts! Those guys may deal with well over a thousand boxes a day and yours is not special because it has a fragile sticker on it!
- Punisher2K, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7That's why I'm shipping a pissed off midget one day so he can bite you in your yam bag. You'll think twice next time after that happens.
- darkane, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6That's not something to be proud of. I don't really care how many packages and boxes move through a UPS facility during a day. It's your job. You're getting paid to ship something from point A to point B in the same condition. You don't see chefs throwing all of their food on the floor and putting it back on the plate just because their restaurant is having a busy night, or a suicide hot line giving instructions on how to properly carry one out just because they're getting a lot of phone calls.

http://digg.com/videos_people/How_UPS_Really_Delivers_Your_Packages - Shelter22, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1I used to work at UPS loading semi-trailers. Our favorite thing was kicking the ***** out of the cow (gateway) boxes. There are rollers on the trucks, and you're supposed to lift the box off the roller (which is about 4 feet high) and then carefully place it in the bottom of the truck. We found it was much easier to kick the ***** off the rollers and let gravity do the rest. I guess thats what happens when you pay a bunch of teenagers $8.50/hour to work 3-4 hours a night and treat them like *****.
- murquiza, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Man you are so wrong. So if you were working at McDonald's will you spit the food? If you don;t like your job quit, damaging other people goods is not the way to demonstrate.
- Punisher2K, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Yeah because you would have cared for the packages if you weren't "treated like *****".
- BryanUT, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1shelter and the poster above are both right.. I also unloaded trucks for UPS. Management expected 20 boxes a minute to come out the back of the truck and onto the conveyor. I threw EVERY box.
Damn that was hard work. But it did pay well. I made $10 hour back in the early 80s working 4 hrs a night during Christmas rush. - darkane, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4The same goes for you: That's not something to be proud of.
- proton, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The loaders, unloaders and sorters are not paid to ship anything. They are paid to do hard manual labor at blazingly fast speeds to the detriment of everything else.
- Shelter22, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0if i worked at mcdonalds, yes i would spit in the food. if you eat at mcdonalds you are a ***** idiot. and yes, if i wasn't treated like ***** i would of cared more about the packages, wtf kind of sarcasm is that? apparently you have not worked at UPS so stfu as you don't know ***** about it. also, there isn't a "busy night", every night was busy. $10/hour in the 80s? damn! i worked there in the late 90s early 00s and they started at 8.50 for package handlers.
- chrismgtis, on 10/10/2007, -8/+3mrurc: LAY OFF THE GAHDAMN SUBMIT BUTTON *****. >_
- jmas9, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I normally just have my packages delivered to work, because A) I know someone will always be here to sign so my package won't be left on the front steps on a busy road. B) Packages arrive faster when you deliver them to businesses.
- adamjbuckland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4They left a £800 ($1600) laptop on my front doorstep. The box was wet and anybody could have stolen it... Luckily there was a outer box, and the laptop still had another 3 layers of cardboard between it and the water
- gravyboy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8I used to work for quality control at UPS, my job was to take packages and put them on the wrong truck, and then see if the people packing the trucks noticed.
If they caught the packages they'd usually throw them... at me.
Also, I worked as a packer, and packages just get jammed in and thrown.
I also worked at Fedex. Much better. There was no throwing at all, and the workers stacked things neatly.- Shelter22, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5that's because fedex isn't union and they'll fire your ass. UPS package handlers are union so we can kick the ***** out of boxes if we want (see above post)
- Corinthos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I worked there for two years as a driver. Here in Evansville IN we aren't supposed to walk through yards or chuck packages lol. That guy is probably just a bad driver.
Around Christmas though is a different story. When they hire just about anyone off the street to help you. Around then about 90%+ of residential packages won't need a signature. A lot of helpers are really bad about tossing packages or leaving them in bad places. I watched one kid throw a package over a fence and climb over afters to go put it on their back door. - stakepie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The act of one worker is not representative of an entire multinational corporation?
- roberto_deneero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Um, in the case of UPS, yes it is. They are notorious for stealing computers right off the UPS dock (managers in San Jose, CA have been seen doing this) and putting them in their own cars. Apparently, the only packages they handle carefully are the ones they steal for themselves. Nice tight brown short shorts.
- xlent, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0was this video made by someone from DHL or something?
- chicoer2001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I once had a printer (in it's original box) sitting at my front door. What ***** service. How about leaving a note instead of leaving 170 bucks for anyone to steal. I'm not surprised at all by this behavior.
- philz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0My post man did this with one which would require signature worth $1000+
That was really nice. Another time, another package worth ~$1000 (Yamaha RX-V2600)
he just dropped it from a meter above earth down to get his signature device.. - seycyrus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0You want the UPS dude to stop, read the label, decide what might be in there. get his pen and paper, and write you a nice note? And you want him to go through that process for every package?
Yeah, right.
The UPS dude looked at the label, thought about what was probably in that box (in the video) shook it a bit to determine he was right, and then hefted it. It's not policy and he'll get busted for it, but it wasn't that bad.- gfnw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, you want the UPS dude to do his job like a professional? Don't be silly.
- philz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0My post man did this with one which would require signature worth $1000+
- randy1294, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0If you ship using UPS you know to pack it good enough to withstand a drop kick to someone's front porch. Worry about something important.
- TheTruth1, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2I don't blame the guy; he probably had to walk through a jungle to get to the door. I mean cummon dude, trim your bushes.
- cyberdork33, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I live in an upstairs apartment, and I once caught the guy throwing a box over the railing from downstairs to land in front of my door. Usually, they just hit the doorbell and run though.

It's still better than FedEx... those *****. - strossos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0So the people that live in the house can afford to install a home security system, but can't be bothered to trim the goddamn bushes? The UPS dude is walking through spider webs and *****. NO WONDER he throws the package, I would have too. If only their walkway was, you know, walkable. I'd have done the same.
But also, screw you UPS for delivering a package that looked like a accordion rather than a box. - RaveX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I've had some pretty awful experiences with UPS, including them managing to mangle the rear wheel of a mountain bike I had shipped to a friend. Mind you, I worked at a bike shop at the time and had packed and shipped many bikes, and had shipped this one from the shop, in a bike box of the proper size, with all the assorted stuff in the box to make sure it was safe and snug... anyway, the bike arrived with the rear wheel bent at a 90-degree angle, something nearly impossible to do without running over it with a truck, and when I made an insurance claim, they tried to tell me that it was due to "improper packaging." Yeah, right. I avoid UPS if at all possible.
