- chris9902, on 10/30/2007, -2/+71Yahoo is a business, Facebook is this years MySpace.
- postingbh, on 10/30/2007, -1/+65No. Yahoo! is the world's most visited website, has a $46.55 billion market cap ($31 bill. > Facebook), and has greater depth and breadth than Facebook. Facebook replaced Yahoo! in Big 3? Give me a ***** break.
- 93south, on 10/30/2007, -1/+23It does seem that the 3-way war has switched to being a 2 player game between Google and MS. Just because Facebook has a big evaluation and traffic load does not put them in the same league just yet.
- EvanVolm, on 10/30/2007, -1/+22I'm so sick of hearing about these god damn social sites. MySpace was a fad, and Facebook will eventually succumb to the same fate. Who gives a ***** about this crap, really? I did...in high school. Time to move on. I lost all interest in Facebook when they opened it up to anyone. They should've kept it available strictly to college students and college students only.
- toxicityj, on 10/30/2007, -0/+14I've never understood comparing a search engine to a social networking site to a software company.
- doom2quake, on 10/30/2007, -2/+14hmm not yet ... the internet mafia wars may have just begun ... the yahoo family does have a challenger but it can fight back i am very sure
- soulpunisher, on 10/30/2007, -2/+12Am I the only one that hates facebook? To me facebook sucks...I guess it is just me :(
- deleo, on 11/03/2007, -0/+9Social Website Lifespans
Friendster: 2001-2003
MySpace: 2004-2006
Facebook: 2007-2009
These things have a shelf life. Anyone who wants to be a gazillionare should be busy working on the next one right now. - sockpuppets, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7I've never visited facebook. Regretfully I had a myspace page which was deleted long ago. It's liberating.
Now if only I could convince Kevin to kick my ass off Digg I'd be a free man. - aaronm67, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7Ever used Yahoo?
They are the business of internet service (SBC/ATT/Yahoo), e-mail, web hosting, online gaming, news, searching, providing ads across many different websites, and also aquiring many smaller websites (Flickr, del.icio.us, etc)
Facebook is just a single overvalued website. - inactive, on 10/30/2007, -1/+8FAR more than 31 Billion more than Facebook. We've already been over why the Microsoft deal did NOT place a value of $15 billion on Facebook. Not even close.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -2/+7this is altavista all over again...
- sdigroup, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5I am sick and tired of seeing facebook story appear on digg's front page every other day. If this is what digg has to offer then I would rather watch paint dry.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -2/+7No worries for you. A good rule of thumb...if you are against the consensus of Digg, then in the real world, you are in the majority.
- NJank, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5alta who??? :)
- Morality, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Actually no, 93south your absolutely right. Facebook is a powerful force but how long has it existed? How long WILL it exist? In 15 years Facebook will be dead. Or at least in the a state of Livejournal excess. Microsoft will be around till the big crash.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Another Fad is the internets!
- ninswift, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3it's amazing how many people think Yahoo is still just another search engine. It's more about the content and communities there. If they were just an SE, google's traffic would have surpassed them long ago. I think Yahoo has huge potential, they just need to capitalize, hopefully in the next 12 months we'll see what they do.
- schuder, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4Oh come on, people proving how cool they are by showing everyone they can post a picture of them holding a beer online isn't cool enough for you?
I can't wait till the Facebook employees start selling the "private" profiles to employers and then they start losing jobs. - inactive, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Everyone wanted a piece of a similar tasting pie back in the 90's.
- Leo21k, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3I use Yahoo Answers all the time.
- kingkilr, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4Facebook is not established enough IMO, a few years ago Myspace was in a very similar position, now the consensus is that they are dieing, facebook is a relatively new player, and for a while I personally thought they were pretty good, but I really don't like the direction they are taking, apps for example are almost as annoying as auto-playing music,
- appetite, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4When will the Facebook mega-hype end?!?! The only reason people care about Facebook is because it is NOT public and it hasn't yet been acquired. Yahoo movies alone makes half the revenue that Facebook makes with its bloated Microsoft ad deal (which loses money!). Not a hater of Facebook, just a hater of the PR hype machine.
- NJank, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4but, it front-paged. So it won. And we all lose.
See? Quite simple actually. - ImOscar, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4Microsoft's "small" purchase of Facebook does not mean the company is worth $15B. The exclusive advertising rights they have bought add a lot more value than their stake in the Facebook alone.
- jasen, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2Everybody keeps saying that Yahoo is dead. Well I agree on that when it comes to search, as I, nor anybody I know uses yahoo to search for anything, and if they do it's only because they can't find it on Google. Yahoo is still a really big player though due to all of their other websites like flickr, mybloglog, delicious, yahoo mail, yahoo groups, yahoo news, etc. TONS of people use these sites/services every day, and helps Yahoo diversify their income stream beyond just search.
- michellepeet, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2Facebook has no major revenue, this whole thing is retarded...
- Leo21k, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2It's the social site for the anit-social.
- gdean2323, on 10/30/2007, -1/+3no
- MikeonTV, on 10/30/2007, -1/+3They will start by going to the mothers of the Google exec's first.
- aliljet, on 10/30/2007, -2/+4no
- patho, on 10/30/2007, -5/+7who uses yahoo anyways?
- catalysis, on 10/30/2007, -1/+3everyone? have you ever read something off yahoo news?
- cos2x, on 10/30/2007, -1/+3That article provided almost no content. All it had were just some vague questions.
- dxgg, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2Regardless of Facebook's lifespan or the legitimacy of a the articles claim, ain't there enough room for a "Big 4" ? *scratches head*
- nobeastsofierce, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2citation needed
- toxicityj, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2oh you're right. Microsoft is an online compa-- oh wait.
- merreborn, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2Yahoo also has dozens more products than facebook, hundreds of times more employees, more departments...
Facebook has social networking.
Yahoo has social networking, blogging, email, web hosting, news, finance, shopping, maps, search...
Facebook's traffic is growing rapidly, but it's going to overtake google (but of course, no one would take the headline "Has facebook replaced google?" seriously) before it overtakes yahoo. Yahoo still has more traffic than either. - youdlike2know, on 10/30/2007, -1/+3anyone who actually WORKS in the business knows:
Google > Yahoo > MSN >>>>>>>>>>>>> Facebook - bacon_skoda, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2did myspace people move onto facebook, then to digg?
- stutimandal, on 10/30/2007, -1/+3LOL. How can people even compare a Full Fledged Information Disbursement website like Yahoo (search, auto, finance, news, email, chat, shopping, photos, blog, 360 degree, travel, weather, you-name-it) with a focused social-networking only website Facebook?
And Facebook isn't even number 1 in its own category. It is below myspace in the number of users. - LokitheComplex, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2You missed theglobe.com 1994-2003
Apparently it was overpriced. Wouldn't happen now of course. - Leo21k, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2Your only have yourself to blame for that happening.
- bacon_skoda, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2it's the ron paul rule.
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1Why don't you have a seat.
- jizzlies, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1It doesn't matter. Any day now, http://www.bofads.com will take over its rightful spot as 'the big one.'
- teferi, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1This article had no substance. The entire article consisted of the same information in the title.....
And then he rants about Yahoo Publisher? Ok, This is Lame. - svivian, on 10/30/2007, -1/+2Yahoo images > Google images
- l33tsauce, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1This is stupid, Facebook isn't even the top Social Networking site, the big 3? Give me a break.
- ImOscar, on 10/30/2007, -2/+3The only thing I use Yahoo! for is Fantasy Football. I used to be part of some Yahoo Groups, but they migrated to Google due to popular demand.

What is Digg?
