http://www.ww4report.com/node/3940 - ka9dgx, on 09/28/2008, -10/+120This is the clearest and most coherent explanation of the issues at stake I've ever encountered. Please spend the 10 minutes and spread the word... we must make our voices heard and stop the bailout.
- mysingerd, on 09/28/2008, -5/+87The American People are complacent on most issues, but everyone has their breaking point. I believe our government has finally done something dumb enough that the majority of Americans are outraged.
We may seem casual but when you do something to piss us off you will find out what a real American is like. - gardengrocer, on 09/28/2008, -11/+87This guy tells it like it is! NO Bailout, not one dime for wall street.
- raisputin3, on 09/28/2008, -5/+77The overwhelming majority of Americans DO NOT WANT this bailout to happen. Where the hell is our "Representation" in Congress? You want to know? OUR Representation is in bed with ISrael, AIPAC and Big Business. They don't give a damn about average Americans.
Our Representatives and Senators no longer Represent the people of this country. They represent only greed, a coporatocracy if you will. We, The People need to rise up in one voice and get rid of all of these bums. First we need to do it at the polls, and if that doesn't work, well, there are always "other" alternatives :) - WWFP, on 09/28/2008, -3/+72Yes, the bill will pass. Now let's throw the bums out. Anybody that voted in favor of this bill, no matter what form it ultimately takes, should be looking for a job after the election.

Dr. Britt studied the fascist regimes of: Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile).
"What no one seemed to notice. . . was the ever widening gap. . .between the government and the people. . . And it became always wider. . . the whole process of its coming into being, was above all diverting, it provided an excuse not to think for people who did not want to think anyway . . . (it) gave us some dreadful, fundamental things to think about . . .and kept us so busy with continuous changes and 'crises' and so fascinated . . . by the machinations of the 'national enemies,' without and within, that we had no time to think about these dreadful things that were growing, little by little, all around us. . .
Each step was so small, so inconsequential, so well explained or, on occasion, 'regretted,' that unless one understood what the whole thing was in principle, what all these 'little measures'. . . must some day lead to, one no more saw it developing from day to day than a farmer in his field sees the corn growing. . . .Each act. . . is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for one great shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join you in resisting somehow.
You don't want to act, or even talk, alone. . . you don't want to 'go out of your way to make trouble.' . . .But the one great shocking occasion, when tens or hundreds or thousands will join with you, never comes. That's the difficulty. The forms are all there, all untouched, all reassuring, the houses, the shops, the jobs, the mealtimes, the visits, the concerts, the cinema, the holidays. But the spirit, which you never noticed because you made the lifelong mistake of identifying it with the forms, is changed. Now you live in a world of hate and fear, and the people who hate and fear do not even know it themselves, when everyone is transformed, no one is transformed. . . .You have accepted things you would not have accepted five years ago, a year ago, things your father. . . could never have imagined." :

(thanks to www.ellensplace.net) - dmlTucson, on 09/28/2008, -5/+38The enemy is not and has never been Al Qaeda, Islam, Muslims, etc. The enemy is within…
"A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victim, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. The traitor is the plague."
- Marcus Tullius Cicero, Roman Orator - 106-43 B.C. - inactive, on 09/28/2008, -6/+38This bailout is for China and other foreign investors. Once the American taxpayers have been stuck with all the toxic debt, the Chinese and other foreign investors will swoop in and buy up America. And the Dollar wil no longer be a World Reserve Currency. We will suffer the fate of 3rd World Countries that have fallen into debt - hyper-inflation. Austerity measures will be imposed on the American People. The only thing protecting us right now is the "poison pill" of bad debt. If foreign investors want to buy up US assets, then at least force them to assume the toxic debt along with the good assets. Then there will at least be a side benefit to the US economy.
This bailout is a gift from the traitor Paulson, also known as "Mr. China", to foreign investors.

"At the same time, Beijing views Paulson as a "Friend of China." During his tenure as CEO, Goldman Sachs advised the government on numerous privatizations of state-owned companies. Paulson himself was a key behind-the-scenes force in the controversial—and ultimately unsuccessful—attempt by state-controlled oil producer CNOOC to buy U.S.-based Unocal."

Lord Acton - inactive, on 09/28/2008, -0/+27Nobody's telling the American People that they will have to pay for this through higher taxes or hyper-inflation or both. So people are not nearly as riled up as they should be. People still fall for that "read my lips, no new taxes" scam.
Bush is using fear mongering to win support just like he did for the Iraq War and the Patriot Act. Even though people are opposed to the bailout, they still think that this is somehow necessary. This is the battle that we face in convincing people that this is not at all necessary and in fact will only make things worse for the American People in the long run. - submitter001, on 09/28/2008, -4/+31This guy has a petition on his website, if you sign it and put your congressional district it will automatically send faxes to your senators, congressmen, Obama, McCain and Bush. http://financialpetition.org/petition-nobail.shtml

- wjappe, on 09/28/2008, -3/+28It's coming from the top, we have to get rid of the scum in the Whitehouse first! What kind of government rules are there that won't allow a corrupt presidency from being investigated and removed as necessary. They are pulling all the strings and won't allow anyone to dislodge them, controlling the congress, and the judges. They have planned this. It seems to be a weakness in the Constitution as well as letting the money lenders to run amok with our money. We have the most un-american presidency in our history. This is going to be the downfall of us all.
- GrObserver, on 09/28/2008, -17/+39I know this will be unpopular to say (and very cliche), but seriously ... if the financial and economic power of this country is destroyed, the terrorists/Al Qaeda REALLY HAVE WON. That is what they said they set out to do many years ago. Whether they are the perpetrators or not would be irrelevant. The goal would be realized. You cannot be a military superpower and be economically weak. Period. I am very concerned about my country right now and I feel they are rushing into things once again without really looking at all the options.

- StultusJuventus, on 09/28/2008, -8/+30I'd like to see a viral counter-argument.
The bailout isn't about trust. It's about bank failure leading to loss of liquidity and the disappearance of loans and therefore growth money in our economy.
I know i'll be dugg down but please, give me a coherent reply. How can our economy survive the total loss of liquidity and loans? I don't understand this kneejerk reaction against government intervention. Sure the banks were greedy, sure they messed up. However, without them and for the foreseeable future, our economy does NOT function. - argoff, on 09/28/2008, -3/+23It is easy to show that the bailout will actually make the housing crises worse. You see the government needs to get that 700 billion dollars from somewhere. If they get it from the economy, it becomes harder for people to pay on their mortgages and things get worse. If they get it from the Federal Reserve using printed up money to buy US treasuries (most likely). That waters down the value of our money, and will make the cost of living way more expensive for home owners already maxed out in debt - causing the housing crises to get worse.

Amazon.com link: http://www.amazon.com/End-America-Letter-Warning-P ... - inactive, on 09/28/2008, -2/+13A huge fraud that is being perpetrated upon the American People is that these Financial Institutions are just too big, and if they fail then the Sun will darken, the sky will fall and we will all be in mud huts by Christmas. That's just not so. A restructuring of the debt Must occur and new equilibrium based upon Real Value must be reached before repair can begin. Losses Will be taken by these houses, but those assets that are of value, Real estate (at true value), Contracts for Durable goods, and securities that are based upon Real property will Continue to Have value, and restructuring the high risk paper into less volatile instruments will stabilize the markets and work to ensure that value remains.
1)Repeal the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act that undid the safeguards put in place after the great depression.
2)Abolish the CRM and the Requirement by congress for banks to make, and the ability of Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae to buy High Risk loans.
3)Change the bankruptcy law so that judges have the ability to restructure these ARM's, Interest only, and balloon mortgages into 30yr Fixed rate loans.
The cost of buying All the bad loans is estimated at about 100-150b...700b is a hose job.
Consider the result of simply printing 700b new dollars, and what it will do to the value of the dollars you already hold? Do so now. There will not be a happy ending. I remember the late 70's and Stagflation (Google it) and if we do this the nightmare we had in the 70's will be a warm and fuzzy memory to what we will have as a result of this asinine policy. Stagflation on steroids. - inactive, on 09/28/2008, -3/+14Everyone needs to calm down. I think everyone is over reacting including the Congress. Congress is rushing into something that not a lot of people have studied and no one knows the effectiveness of this bailout or the long term effects of this decision.

- billyjack1958, on 09/28/2008, -0/+9Google "Cloward-Piven Strategy". The biggest recipients of welfare or tax-payer funded handouts have, for years now, been corporate America although many would have you believe otherwise. Keep shoveling the money towards corporations and it'll keep pushing more taxpayers towards poverty/welfare. Keep pouring from an empty cup and you'll also have enslaved future generations.
- FongoBongo, on 09/28/2008, -3/+12The bailout will only perpetuate this problem and make things worst. I don't understand how some people are so eager to give Wall Street billions without any commitment to fixing the real problem at hand. - algaeturd, on 09/28/2008, -0/+9And this administration is complacent in the destruction. They chased the red herring and siphoned all of your money into this worthless cause. And Americans CHEERED for it, no less. They literally burned trillions of your tax dollars for absolutely NOTHING.
They won all right. It's a shaem but that's what they set out to do. They didn't want to destroy a building apparently. They wanted to destroy our economy. And nobody was smart enough to put the brakes on and save it. - badqat, on 09/28/2008, -1/+10Uh...you realize that Bush is a lame duck, right?
