WTF? - jboitnott, on 06/27/2009, -1/+2The spending of hundreds of billions of dollars on needless wars in the Middle East, while vast swaths of the American populace were ignored, is one of the great crimes in America over the last 20 years.

- DaDrake, on 06/28/2009, -1/+1Everyone with half a brain could tell you the auto industry has been in decline for decades. It was just a matter of time, not if. Simply put, other countries (Japan with Toyota especially) have become much more competitive. For example, despite all the defacto tariffs the USA has on SUVs to support American auto makers (which, on average raise the prices for competitors 20-40% on certain SUV, depending where they are sold), foreign companies have actually out competed American companies. Combined that with the fact that you have a heavily unionized workforce, these American companies wouldn't be able to restructure without bankruptcy.
