Forget 1987, This Could Be 1929 All Over Again
prisonplanet.com — The huge debt bubble, which has artificially propped up the stock market since the turn of the millennium, could cause a new great depression according to one expert, who also predicts that investors will flock to buy gold as the dollar continues to plummet.

- Look4Truth, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7Because it is Jocko. You guys just don't get it do you?
Look carefully:
http://quotes.ino.com/chart/?s=NYBOT_DX&v=dmax - kayaker712, on 01/24/2008, -1/+9Buy lots of stocks jcm, after all it's what you advised back in October
- jcm267, on 01/24/2008, -7/+5I'm not a day-trader, nor did I advise anyone else to be one. Stocks/Mutual Funds have historically been the best long-term investment. And I thought that I said people should be investing in mutual funds and not individual stocks.
- Look4Truth, on 01/24/2008, -0/+8In the past yes, they've worked fine. But now with inflation out of control and the crashing dollar, you're actually LOSING money by staying in the markets. Take a look at this chart:
http://www.nowandfutures.com/images/dow_cpi_lies19 ...
With just the CPI alone, you'd be breaking even since 2000. But add in other inflationary attributes and you'd have LOST money.
The dollar is trashed and getting worse and to stay in the markets is not only risky but not a wise thing to do. - kayaker712, on 01/24/2008, -0/+8I never said you told me to be a day trader but in October You said I was crazy to get out of the market and you were buying on the dip
- KMye, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7If you take your money out of stocks and bonds, L4T, do you have any place to put it other than real estate?
- Look4Truth, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4I already pulled out of the markets months ago and invested in gold, silver, and storable goods. Real estate has a long way to fall before I'd consider buying anything there. The housing market is extremely bloated as evidenced by the current implosion of bad debts. I expect that trend to continue for a long time and will get worse. We've just seen the beginning of the housing debacle.
- KMye, on 01/25/2008, -1/+2Well, I just hope you don't have all your eggs in one basket. I have a very direct interest in gold and silver prices staying as high as they are for as long as possible, too, but it's not something to count on. Have you looked in the GLD ETF as a possible way to slightly diversify?
- Look4Truth, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Is that a fund? If so, I'm trying to stay away from gold or silver funds because when the collapse comes, it might be difficult to get a hold of those assets. I bought coins so that I can have them on hand and not worry about how I'm going to get my money and/or gold out of my funds when it all falls apart.
If that's an overseas fund, I've thought about that and it's not a horrible idea but in the end I decided to have the actual gold and silver in my hand. I'm just not comfortable with having someone else manage my assets during a collapse which I believe could happen any day. I know that some people are buying gold and silver and having it stored somewhere but I don't like that idea either.
These are sketchy times and I'm trying to take all precautions possible. But I'm willing to listen to what and how you've been investing because I always like to learn more. Research is absolutely priceless these days! =) - KMye, on 01/25/2008, -1/+2Yes, GLD is an exchange traded fund. I guess we differ on what we see coming down the pipeline; I don't see a total collapse, in which case mining companies like those represented in GLD do well in general market downturns. I would just caution against putting all of your money into physical gold or silver, because their values have historically been extremely cyclical, and definitely have the potential to fall again in the mid-term future. I don't say it as an investor, but as someone who's been around the mining industry all his life and works for a gold and another resource company right now.
- Look4Truth, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Yeah it has been cyclical, that's for sure. But what I strongly considered is the future collapse of the dollar and other fiat currencies which will further pump up the value of gold and silver. It's possible that gold and silver could see some pull back in the near term but I bought into this for the long haul. I just don't see a way out of this mess without a collapse because they can't stop the dollar from falling.
But hey, ANYTHING is better than staying in the dollar and American markets heh. I thought about foreign gold and commodity funds and they might be a good investment in the long run, it's hard to tell exactly how things will play out.
I really like Peter Schiff and what he has to say and almost invested with him.
http://www.europac.net/
His funds look good but I still decided to get my hands on physical gold and silver but that was my second choice.
I guess my reasoning for my choice was what I would rather have in the event that the economy collapses. I suppose the fed might step in some day and throw out the dollar and bring in the Amero or something to "save us" from the mess but I don't know. I don't see any easy way out of this mess.
Oh well, it's going to be interesting to see what happens over the next year or two. I'm glad to know that at least you did something to prepare for what's coming. Most people either don't know or don't want to know what's going on. They just figure everything's always been ok so it always will be. But just studying history and fiat currencies will change that thinking real fast. - Look4Truth, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Btw, I don't have all my "eggs in one basket" either. I invested a substantial amount in gold, silver, and storable goods but I also have other things going on as well. I'm well aware of the gold charts and especially around the 80's which is often used to keep people out of the gold market but I'd rather take my chances with gold than the dollar. =)
- Look4Truth, on 01/24/2008, -0/+8In the past yes, they've worked fine. But now with inflation out of control and the crashing dollar, you're actually LOSING money by staying in the markets. Take a look at this chart:

This is what a stock market crash looks like? News to me.- Look4Truth, on 01/24/2008, -2/+8Has nothing to do with the market BTT, it's heavily manipulated by the PPT. What it DOES have to do with though is the crashing dollar:
http://quotes.ino.com/chart/?s=NYBOT_DX&v=dmax
Remember when Mexico devalued their currency and their economy crashed? Well, imagine that X 100. It's not a matter of if the dollar completely tanks, it's a matter of when. The bankers are pumping up the markets and destroying the value of the dollar at the same time. It will work for awhile but eventually the house of cards will come down.- keithgplayer, on 01/24/2008, -0/+11It's like putting a band-aid on a dam thats about to give way.
- Look4Truth, on 01/24/2008, -2/+8Yes! Buy trying to explain that to the brain dead boob tube watchers out there is like trying to explain to a child that the stove is hot...they just have GOT to touch it!

- Look4Truth, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Hahaha! SHHH! They might just go out and do it because the boob tube is telling them of all the wonderful buying opportunities.
Lol, it's sad but funny to watch in a twisted sort of way. It's like seeing a car crash on the side of the road, you don't want to look but you have to. Hah!- Hortnon, on 01/24/2008, -5/+3So...when is this crash happening?
- spartacus409, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5Never hort, never, hurry up and do as kayaker suggests, buy heavily.
- Hortnon, on 01/24/2008, -5/+3So, you don't know either, then?
- jcm267, on 01/24/2008, -3/+3Of course not. They don't seem to know anything.
- Look4Truth, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4We don't know when it's going to crash Horty and anyone that tells you they do is lying. Well, I take that back, the bankers probably know about when but who knows.
Throughout history ALL fiat currencies have failed in miserable collapse because they spend and print money until the currency is worthless and that's exactly what's happening to the dollar. They're sacrificing the dollar to keep the markets pumped up, and that's admitted, just research the PPT (Plunge Protection Team).
I don't know Horty but I'm a bit freaked out. As more and more people wake up to what's going on, it's going to be more difficult for the PPT to keep things in order. And once foreign countries begin to heavily divest in the dollar in favor of the Euro or whatever, it's game over.
A collapse is imminent but who knows when. My advice is to get out of the markets and the dollar ASAP and invest in gold and silver. When currencies go bad, people flock to gold and silver because they hold value and are a safe place when currencies go bad.
This isn't a joke guys, do the research. Time is short, eventually the house of cards WILL come down.
The dollar:
http://quotes.ino.com/chart/?s=NYBOT_DX&v=dmax
Gold:
http://monex.com/prods/gold.html#5-year
There's a reason those charts look like that. People are losing confidence in the dollar and well they should. It's just a matter of time before a threshold is crossed when they can't keep everything propped up and the masses exit the dollar. Don't get left behind, it's going to get ugly.

- ssn697, on 01/24/2008, -6/+10THAT was your version of the MSM reporting that lead paint is good? You might want to go to a doctor to get your shoulder put back in place. You are reaching WAY too far. Of course, that is what you do without real facts, isn't it?
One talking head on an opinion show, saying something stupid about the COST OF GOODS for China, is NOT the MSM reporting that lead paint is good, and you know it. But honesty and integrity aren't your forte, are they? - Look4Truth, on 01/24/2008, -6/+6Poor guy. I wish I could say I'm going to shed a tear when all of you bashers lose your butts when the house of cards comes down but I won't. You've all been part of the problem so you'll get what you deserve in the end. If you want to base the health of this economy on how the stock market is doing and what the boob tube tells you then you'll get what you deserve.
It's really a sad joke that none of you are willing to research what the boob tube and the MSM tells you. Even after proving that those morons on TV know NOTHING about what's going on and are only pushing the agenda handed down to them, you STILL follow them like lemmings off a cliff.
Oh well, keep pumping those markets! Let others get out who are willing to research and wake up to the scam. Go ahead, keep sticking your perishing dollars in the markets, but don't say nobody warned you. You've all had plenty of time to research what we've all been telling you but your pride and arrogance has blinded you.
Now, get back to Fox or CNN so you can get your next talking points. Everything is fine and well, nothing to see here folks, move along. - ssn697, on 01/24/2008, -6/+8Ah, the old "can't argue to the facts, so I will change the subject". Come on, show us one news report from the MSM saying lead paint is good for you.
- kayaker712, on 01/24/2008, -1/+5see above
- ssn697, on 01/24/2008, -4/+6Above where? Like I said, one talking head saying taking lead out will RAISE THE COST OF GOODS is NOT "the MSM" saying lead paint is good for you.
So, NEITHER of you is willing to be honest, eh?
- ssn697, on 01/24/2008, -4/+6Above where? Like I said, one talking head saying taking lead out will RAISE THE COST OF GOODS is NOT "the MSM" saying lead paint is good for you.
- Look4Truth, on 01/24/2008, -2/+4Hehe, is that NOT the MSM? What, is MSNBC now considered outside the MSM cage?
Give it up and get a clue, you look like a fool trying to spin actual proof like that. The MSM has also reported that the falling dollar is good and you probably buy that one too.
But go ahead, buy those stocks, they're such a bargain. The economy hinges on what the market does, not the falling dollar...at least that's what you believe. So get out there and BUY BUY BUY!!!- ssn697, on 01/24/2008, -4/+6Where in that clip did they say "lead paint is good for you"? Again, why can't you be honest, and say you are trying to fear monger, post hyperbole, etc.?
- ssn697, on 01/24/2008, -4/+6Oh, and thanks for the laugh. I love the way you use the words "actual proof" like it is so rare for you to even come this close to having any...
- Look4Truth, on 01/24/2008, -3/+4Eh? So are you suggesting the clip hints that lead in paint is bad? In the clip, she clearly states that we should not get up in arms about lead in paint or poison in food because if we did the price for these goods would go up. So in essence, she's saying that it's good that China is putting crap like that in the good we purchase because it keeps prices down.
Please explain to me where she hints that it's a bad thing that they're poisoning us. I really want to understand your thought process on this. - Look4Truth, on 01/24/2008, -3/+4It's fascinating how well boob tube programming has been over the years. They say all of these crazy things and people like you either agree, ignore, or defend them. What makes me shake my head though is that I used to believe them just as you do.
It really is efficient brainwashing techniques that they're using on the general population and it takes some kind of shock to wake people up. More and more people are waking up to their propaganda every day but sadly most people like yourself will never wake up. But maybe when the dollar tanks and the economy follows you'll think back to these discussions...one can hope anyway. - Hortnon, on 01/24/2008, -3/+5Honestly, L4T, why do you feel like you're better and smarter than EVERYONE ELSE? I really want to know. What makes you special? What, you don't watch TV? Who gives a *****? That doesn't lend any credibility to anyone's arguments.
Seriously, why do you feel you're better than everyone? - ringelman5, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Personal attacks mean you're on target, Look4' . Lock & load.

I did fairly well with a Del Taco place in Chula Vista back in the late 70's but after my partner had a mid life crisis and left the business while I was still in Iran I lost my taste for tacos.- CaptainNoPants, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1oh man, I was in CA last year and had Del Taco for the first time. 1000x better than Taco Bell. I wouldn't have ditched you. Lets go into business together now and get your lust for tacos back again!
- CaptainNoPants, on 01/24/2008, -6/+7silly kayaker, all my money is tied up in taco bell franchises.
- kayaker712, on 01/24/2008, -0/+11What are you doing here? Hurry go out and borrow money to put into the market! Quick!!!

Ron paul and Alex Jones are part of a secret gold-hoarding consortium/cabal, whose goal is to raise the price of gold as much as possible. Tactics include fear mongering and an advocation of a strict return to the GOLD standard...
Proof you say? The clues are right in front of us!! I mean, look who wants us to go back on gold, none other than Ron p(Au)l !! Why won't the mSM report on this!! *aurum* you guys wondering the same thing??
/tinfoilhat (hey! possible tinfoil conspiracy, anyone??? Of course the government wont tell us, as they've been in bed with the Tin lobby for years)- keithgplayer, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7Fine, I'll get serious for one second. If you look at the price of gold about 4 years ago, compared to what the price of gold is today you'll see that it has doubled in price. What this is a reflection of is the fact that the dollar has gone down in value due to inflation. If you would of put the same amount of money into the stock market for the going rate of gold four years ago, you would find that in fact you would have lost money compared to inflation. Now no one is forcing you to buy gold. If you find it to be a bad investment, stay away from it. Everyone else, enjoy. There's no need to call anyone a tin foil hat wearer.
- Look4Truth, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7Well said and thanks for some sanity in this thread. I get heated too much myself on occasion. I cashed out of my funds months ago and bought gold, silver, storable goods, etc. and I'm glad I did. It's really simple to understand, I'm not sure why people can't grasp it.
The dollar:

Gold:
http://monex.com/prods/gold.html#5-year
Gold has always been a safe refuge when a currency begins to deteriorate and today is no different. The dollar is tanking and will continue to slide because they keep printing money which in turn increases inflation.
But hey, if they want to believe it's all some kind of crazy conspiracy, I say fine, go pump that market with their increasingly worthless dollars. It will give others time to get out and so someone has to go down with the ship so why not the people who defend the bankers and their scams. At least the people who are waking up to the truth have more time to get out before it implodes.

- BuckQJohnson, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6This is just the first inning in this long market correction/recession/DEPRESSION. Because for one the stimulus package doesn't help the person who bought either to much house or just can't afford it. All it does is to give people 300 to 600 dollars and then raises the FHA from 435,000 to up to 750,000 to get a new loan (this will affect california mostly). But this will help the banks and other financial institutions. What person or persons will want to refinance there loans when the house is worth less than the mortgage note itself. All this rate cut and stimulus package does is to one give the banks some breathing room (not much) and two chump change for the citizens.
It doesn't help the CDO market the Credit Default Swaps or the bond insurance. All it does is to keep the game rolling a little longer, until bush gets out of office. - jcm267, on 01/25/2008, -7/+1http://www.infowars.com/articles/sept11/market_cra ...

Alex Jones has a history of doing this. Stop believing him, you idiots.- jcm267, on 01/25/2008, -3/+1No replies, just some buries. Figures.

- jcm267, on 01/25/2008, -1/+2Just like this current "prediction" of a stock market crash, Alex is vague and avoids using absolutes. But this doesn't stop his followers from thinking that these events WILL happen.

A New Invention: 1.7 year DJIA prediction at
http://stockmarketpredictor.spaces.live.com/
The Model made the following predictions:
·(predicted On 05/28/08, 5 weeks ahead) the DJIA would plunge into bear territory (11,331)
·A 2-year Low 10,943 for end of November 2008
·A New High 14,683 for end of November 2009
Conventional wisdom has it that tomorrow's stock price cannot be rationally predicted due to the vagaries of Nature and Man. The Model, however, postulates counterintuitively that such uncertainties as they occur at the time are imprinted in the stock’s price, and thus become a part of the stock’s price-history. The latter can mathematically be shown to be the dominant factor, more often then not, in determining the price of this stock at some future point in time; the uncertainties prevailing at this future point then merely exacerbates or ameliorates the influence of this price-history. At times, price-history cast a "shadow" over the stock’s attempt to break out of depression; at other times, it may be the "rising tide" that lifts all stocks to new height. In all cases, this "shadow" and "rising tide" that affect future prices are demonstrably predictable.
Testing of the model is still ongoing. Latest 8 1/2 tracking of actual compared with predicted prices shown in Fig. SMP_3.1 - MonexFRAUD, on 09/13/2008, -0/+0Look4Truth is a Monex shill!
