lol - rft3rd, on 01/12/2009, -0/+41I worked at TJ Maxx in Loss prevention.
Yes you can find a great deal on clothing and accessories. Especially if you are into high end designer stuff. But lemme tell ya, The people that shopped at my store were disgusting. Our associates took pride in getting the store st at night and in the morning only to have customers come in and destory the place in a matter of minutes
Shoplifting was horrible there. I would take out 5-10 a week on petty theft. Even got a few door hits with leather coats or mens Jeans. Just grab a cart, load it up and run out the door.
The best was the regular tag switchers. They would buy a coach or Dooney bag for 2 bills, and then go home put the tag on a knockoff and return it. Instant free designer bag. And there was not a damn thing I could do about it unless I had an open case with 10 confrmed switches by the same person on record.
They have no clue how to run a business. - PNooch, on 01/12/2009, -1/+32I'm crying this article is so funny

- chumpbender, on 01/12/2009, -0/+25"Economists were, however, able to locate a single store manager after months of searching. James Boucher, who runs the domestic department of the Smyrna, GA location, was found weeping in the middle of a sock aisle and was unable to comment on the store's current financial status..."

- chrissku, on 01/12/2009, -1/+24If you're willing to spend time digging through clothing racks you can find some really great clothes at T.J. Maxx at a relatively inexpensive price.
- crackedlogic, on 01/12/2009, -2/+23I found a used tampon in a bargain bin there once.

- NaziHatinChimp, on 01/12/2009, -1/+21My mom used to drag me to TJ Maxx and Marshall's all the time. For hours. Thank god for Nintendo childhood, thank god for Nintendo.
- Henwood, on 01/12/2009, -0/+20T.J. Maxx survives by stripping the bodies of shoppers who have died of depression whilst confusedly surveying the chaos wondering "Where are the designer goods at low, low prices?"

- rvandy, on 01/12/2009, -0/+14T.J. Maxx, BigLots...I love all those places. Where else can you find expired cans of peanuts and irregular sweatpants?
- fadetoone, on 01/12/2009, -2/+15This is the first onion article I've noticed in a while that I actually guessed was the onion from reading the headline. They've been fooling me a lot lately.
- PxCxG, on 01/12/2009, -0/+13Same for me...my mom used to buy tons of my clothes there...except I never got a nintendo....
(balls up in corner to cry...) - SirBruce, on 01/12/2009, -0/+13Doo doot doo doot doo doot doo doot

- EricSchC1, on 01/12/2009, -0/+11Your location has a door?! Lucky! o_O
- EricSchC1, on 01/12/2009, -0/+11Nope.
- kirb59y, on 01/12/2009, -2/+12TJ Maxx is a glorified thrift store
- Lord_oftheTrons, on 01/12/2009, -1/+11"...even more difficult to discern if you realized this was from the onion"
- Trifold, on 01/12/2009, -1/+11Nah, they have all the money they made from selling...I mean, "data leaking"...everyone's credit card number. They're fine.
- SubEl, on 01/12/2009, -1/+11glorified? who? what?
- jamesdew, on 01/13/2009, -0/+10in the UK we have T.K Maxx, I was unaware of this store until now.
- badboys213, on 01/12/2009, -0/+10Seriously, places like those always make me wonder: who the hell is buying all this golf merchandise?
- bigdoof, on 01/12/2009, -1/+10http://letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=tj+maxx
- jchalmer85, on 01/13/2009, -0/+9Man, it is getting harder and harder to tell real news apart from the Onion these days. I can't tell if that's good writing or a very bad sign.
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -0/+8I get mine in the 2-for-1 rack
- iamnobody8614, on 01/12/2009, -2/+10Pretentious much?
- bobjohnsonmilw, on 01/12/2009, -1/+9Actually it took me a while to notice it was the Onion. Most of it seemed rather plausible actually.
- semperfidoordi, on 01/12/2009, -2/+10God damn you onion.
I ALWAYS read about three paragraphs of their articles and then see the logo. - orb_nsc, on 01/12/2009, -0/+7The stores smell less like pee than the Salvation Army.
- craighoxton, on 01/13/2009, -0/+7Copper...
- BradBrown, on 01/12/2009, -2/+8What flavor?
- RomeyRome, on 01/12/2009, -1/+7This means nothing. WalMart always looks like this & they're doing alright.
- AmandaQ, on 01/12/2009, -0/+6Me, too. It is so, so true.
- fearandtremble, on 01/13/2009, -0/+6I remember I would do that as a kid. Once I surprised a lady that was looking around. Sadly it happened at mervyns, a much more high class joint where such tomfoolery is not aloud, so my mother promptly beat me
- JBmtk, on 01/12/2009, -1/+6I worked here off and on for 2 years when I was in high school. Everything is true, place is generally f*ked up...all the way from the feature tables to the people who shop there.
- olias123, on 01/12/2009, -1/+6I walked through Burlington Coat Factory recently and thought the same - not long for this place...
- decker12, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5In college our local TJ Maxx was the last remaining store in a 30 year old mall that was located in a really bad neighborhood. Most of the kids in the dorm seemed to have worked a shift or two there, probably because it was conveniently located and at the time, $4.25 an hour was still better than nothing.
They never cleaned that place up at night. Even the big 15' tall display windows in the front of the store were just heaped high with clothes and lamps and comforter / bed sheet combos packs. Christmas decorations were still on sale in May and the toy aisle was beyond depressing. - nextekcarl, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5Said like a true geek, as most people would know what flavor to expect.
- wedges, on 01/12/2009, -0/+5dugg for: "said Lake Forest, IL resident Brian Crowe, carrying an armful of L.A. Gear sneakers to his car." L.A. Gear FTW.
- troyfoley, on 01/12/2009, -0/+5That's what she said.
