CompUSA Ressurrected: Assets Snapped Up By TigerDirect
arstechnica.com — CompUSA will live on, thanks to a deal with electronics marketer Systemax. Systemax, which owns popular computer parts reseller (and CompUSA competitor) TigerDirect, announced yesterday that it has entered into an agreement to purchase the CompUSA brand, trademarks, and e-commerce business.

- trippler, on 01/08/2008, -5/+141That explains the "going out of business sale" being a 5% discount.
- pimpsallad, on 01/08/2008, -1/+10I was pretty pissed when I went to compUSA and found everything marked down only 15%. I was expecting way more then that
- wbeavis, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3Why pissed? I could see disappointment, but you are not entitled to anything. It is their inventory, they could sell it for whatever the want. Heck they could simply close the door and toss it in the trash. Their choice.
- pimpsallad, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1But I want cheap stuff damnit!!
- wbeavis, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3Why pissed? I could see disappointment, but you are not entitled to anything. It is their inventory, they could sell it for whatever the want. Heck they could simply close the door and toss it in the trash. Their choice.
- mongrel, on 01/08/2008, -1/+10Eh, I took the bait and bought a 42" Aquos lcd for 20% off - it was still less than anything available online (even eBay) once you factor in shipping.
Still.. TigerDirect - talk about insult to injury. - Rhendal, on 01/08/2008, -0/+7My friend bought an external hard drive at Best Buy for like $140. We went to CompUSA and the same exact one said it was $199 with a 15% discount making it $170. We also looked at TVs and monitors and they were about street price with it "marked down." It looks like they jacked their prices and then marked it down so people think they're getting a deal, when they were just ripping off the uninformed.
- thcobbs, on 01/08/2008, -0/+8Never underestimate the power of a "SALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" sign on the US consumer
- Chompy, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2RIght, that sort of thing never works on, say, a European consumer.
- themastersb, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3Sounds like Tiger Direct to me. They have a sale on 24/7 365 days a year of all their products and advertise so.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 01/08/2008, -3/+1Just about any establishment will do that at a time of "buy one get one free" too. look at a same item in a supermarket ad a week apart. one week It'll be 3.49/Lb and the following week buy one get one at $5.49/lb. It's all consumer perception.
- Chompy, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Uh.. two for $5.49 would actually represent a substantial discount over one for $3.49.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1But you're forced to both pay more and buy two.
- Chompy, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Uh.. two for $5.49 would actually represent a substantial discount over one for $3.49.
- thcobbs, on 01/08/2008, -0/+8Never underestimate the power of a "SALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" sign on the US consumer
- emorphien, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2The prices on some things were decent after the up to 30% discounts but for the most part, not a good deal. They had the GPS I bought for 15% off... making it still 118 more than I paid for it.
- whataboutdave, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I got 15%.
- isewise, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3The discounts get bigger as the store gets closer to closing, but nothing good is every left.
- DanC922, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3I'm working at CompUSA for the closing, and I can attest to the fact that most stuff is a rip off. TVs are still hundreds cheaper elsewhere and they're 20% off now. Not much is worth the discounted price. Only thing worth it is the store fixtures and equipment. I picked up a couple hundred feet of ethernet cable, 4 USB extensions, 4 computer power cords, 3 surge protectors, an extension power cord, an HDMI cable, and a couple other things for $30.
- Chompy, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Man, you should have worked for the Comp back in the salad days, back in the mid to late 90s. Those sweet sweet TAP spiffs put me through college. Hell, you could make $60 on one frigging sale. I got out in '99, right about the time they started carrying TVs and other nonsense.
- stevan2002, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1If tigerdirect keeps offering deals like this: http://digg.com/comedy/An_Offer_You_Can_t_Refuse_P ... then we are screwed.

- Clp727, on 01/08/2008, -24/+11In my community we have CompUSA or Best Buy. I prefer CompUSA.
- thcobbs, on 01/08/2008, -2/+4Damn... your Best Buy must be the ass-end of retail stores for the world!
- Clp727, on 01/08/2008, -0/+5It really is. Their service sucks. I could go in there to buy some RAM and they will try to sell me a TV. I hate that. Plus I hate the Geek Squad.
The CompUSA in my community must be an exceptional one. They usually have tons of customers. Must be location?- PleaseJustDie, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I usually tell the geek squad people that ask if they can help me that I don't take advice from amateurs. But I do most of my computer shopping at the Fry's Electronics a block down the street from the Best Buy near me.
- Chompy, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Nobody who knows their ***** goes to Best Buy if there is a Fry's in their town, that goes without saying.
Of course, once I've seen the item there I usually order it from Newegg, but the principal is the same. - PleaseJustDie, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I usually only go to Best Buy if i can't find the item at Fry's first. And usually I'll just buy it at Fry's because I pay tax instead of shipping and I get to go home with it instead of having to wait 3 days for shipping.
- Chompy, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Nobody who knows their ***** goes to Best Buy if there is a Fry's in their town, that goes without saying.

- scottmoss, on 01/08/2008, -5/+125In my community we have Newegg and well..... I prefer Newegg.....
- 89vision, on 01/08/2008, -1/+26I agree with you but CompUSA has always been good if you can't wait three or four days for something to ship.
- bantam, on 01/08/2008, -1/+18Newegg has the best support out of any computer online site. Hell they have the best support out of almost every computer store or retail store out there. I have had things stolen from me during shipping and a few broken items after use and Newegg has been amazing through every issue.
- digitallysick, on 01/08/2008, -0/+12I have no problem with tiger direct, i think i just hate the web site layout. I enjoy newegg and will only shop there. Newegg exchanges or refunds are very easy.
- inigomntoya, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3With Tiger, you just have to watch out for the refurbs and the crappy return policy that accompanies them...
- buckrogers1965, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3Yeah, only have ever had one problem with new egg selling me a product that had been returned and was missing parts, got no love from new egg, but the manufacturer finally did the right thing and gave me a few drive trays for my NAS unit.
With Tiger Direct, it seemed like every order was a struggle.- Philbert, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1Now that you mention it the computer case I bought from Newegg was missing a pin for one of the front panel hinges. I mentioned it in my Newegg product review and the manufacturer read it and sent me a new pin.
- hollyminkowski, on 01/08/2008, -0/+5Newegg rules!
CompUSA and Tiger Direct are nothing but an endless hassle to deal with.
I got most of my holiday gifts at Newegg.
I do wish Newegg would go back to Fedex shipping though...UPS sux- TheWindBlows, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3they still have Fedex its just not the standard(default) in the option menu.
- Philbert, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2I just bought an HP dv9650us laptop from NewEgg. Funny thing is I really wanted that one and NewEgg seemed to be the only place I could fine that carried it or had it in stock. Of the few places that were just out of stock NewEgg's price was cheaper than them anyway.
- expert01, on 01/08/2008, -2/+38Finally... a retail store company that will make Office Depot's mail in rebates look good.
- joshuaer, on 01/08/2008, -10/+4In my community i have First Tech the oldest and best Mac retailer in the USA! we had 3 compUSA's but i never really went to them.
- underburn, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3Wait till they open an Apple store, then that sentence will read "In my community we had First Tech, then the Apple Store that opened in my community took all of its business and essentially closed it down."
- joshuaer, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1WOW o got dugg down for supporting a locally owned store that seems a little ***** up.
yes you are all right ***** small retailers i should support cor-pirate Companies.

- underburn, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3Wait till they open an Apple store, then that sentence will read "In my community we had First Tech, then the Apple Store that opened in my community took all of its business and essentially closed it down."
- MaXPL, on 01/08/2008, -21/+1in my community i have Best Buy, the obvious winner.
- arbulus, on 01/08/2008, -0/+14Best Buy wins nothing.
The lack of computer components in an electronic store is insulting to me. Same goes for Circuit City. when I walk into the store looking for a SATA data cable, a case fan, a CMOS battery or something like that, and they have nothing on the shelves and then when I ask about it and I get this look of disgust from a kid behind the counter who has no idea what I'm talking about - sorry, that's an epic fail.- someguyouknow, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4I found a SATA cable. For 20 bucks... i just waited and purchased one at Newegg for 4 bucks.
There is a Tiger Direct store near. There is a lot to hate about them but in a pinch, i rather there than best buy.
- someguyouknow, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4I found a SATA cable. For 20 bucks... i just waited and purchased one at Newegg for 4 bucks.
- arbulus, on 01/08/2008, -0/+14Best Buy wins nothing.
- dolby, on 01/08/2008, -5/+16The Riddler "why can't I kill you?"....Compusa "because I suck...no wait because I am compusa!!!"
Actual quote for Batman Forever (c. 1995) - JoeDiggsIt, on 01/08/2008, -0/+31Great, just as they finish shutting down our CompUSA, but good news everyone! We're getting a Fry's!
- iofthestorm, on 01/08/2008, -0/+6Nice, I wish we could get a Fry's to replace the CompUSA we lost, although I don't think I'll buy anything at brick-and-mortar stores anymore after buying from newegg, their prices rock and their service is great too! UPS forgot to deliver my speakers even though they said they delivered everything and newegg offered to give me new ones for free before I found out that UPS had just forgotten to deliver them. Needless to say, I did not take advantage of their generosity and let them know that I didn't need the replacements anymore.
- meanyhead, on 01/08/2008, -1/+4Fry's is the best place to shop... ever. Thank god for Fry's!
- cawpin, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2Only if you know exactly what you're looking for and know exactly where it is in the store. If you have to ask a question to somebody, watch out.
- gegroff, on 01/08/2008, -0/+0Congrats! Fry's is by far the best when it comes to electronics (locally). Name one other store where you can buy capacitors, a new laptop, a new washer and dryer, and porn! Yes, I am a fanboy.
- gobleepyourself, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Fry's is the worst! They've got "everything" but the prices aren't anything to write home about, the service blows, and the payment/return policies are abysmal. I can get better prices, save sales tax and not feel like I'm dealing with f'n tools by just using NewEgg.
- arunforce, on 01/08/2008, -16/+2Honestly, I have spent thousands of dollars at TigerDirect, I have had no problems with them, except for rebates. I have spent a thousand or more dollars at NewEgg, but not as much as TigerDirect. I prefer NewEgg, I had no PROBLEMS with them, but I find NewEgg harder to find things, and their selection isn't as good IMO.
But with a TigerDirect Store, I could save hundreds on shipping. - xsquirrel378x, on 01/08/2008, -10/+7***** compUSA, its their own damn fault. all they sold was ***** you could get at any best buy or circuit city and called themselves a computer superstore. if they actually sold real computer hardware they might still be in business.
- PixelD, on 01/08/2008, -1/+16they did. It was that 50-100% markup that turned people off.
- xsquirrel378x, on 01/08/2008, -6/+1really? i guess i was wrong but i never remember seeing any motherboards, processors, cases or anything when i went in there
- thelostemperor, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4All the CompUSA stores in my area sold all of those parts, and indeed, had special sections devoted to home PC builders and modders. Of course, Micro Center still had them beat by a long shot for that kind of thing.
- xsquirrel378x, on 01/08/2008, -6/+1really? i guess i was wrong but i never remember seeing any motherboards, processors, cases or anything when i went in there
- meanyhead, on 01/08/2008, -2/+3I agree... they seemed to be overpriced and understocked on everything. Then that mexican billionaire bought 'em out and took them down even quicker than anyone could have imagined.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Part of me can't COMPLETELY hate them, since they're where my mom found my dreamcast xmas after launch :)
- PixelD, on 01/08/2008, -1/+16they did. It was that 50-100% markup that turned people off.
- everfalling, on 01/08/2008, -3/+8so it'll be worse now? fantastic...
- gllopc, on 01/08/2008, -0/+8Hell has frozen over. Funny thing is that it's prices are still cheaper than CompUSA's.
- everfalling, on 01/08/2008, -1/+31this is kind of a tangent, but does anyone remember Egghead computer stores?
- DontGiveADamn, on 01/08/2008, -1/+13It was called Egghead Software. They folded. Show the value of retail stores. Limited selection, high overhead.
- utp216, on 01/08/2008, -1/+5I remember a Egghead store in Arnold, MD - I always wondered if they had something to do with Newegg.com ...
- asurroca, on 01/08/2008, -0/+15And the answer is no.
- carvals, on 01/08/2008, -4/+0Yes, just the name
Newegg, got Egg from the Egghead
thus New Egg
- carvals, on 01/08/2008, -4/+0Yes, just the name
- asurroca, on 01/08/2008, -0/+15And the answer is no.
- Philbert, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2I was never in one but I used to work in a Babbage's way back in the day (bought out by Gamestop) and whenever a customer wanted software we didn't have we'd send them to the Egghead across the street.
- BluKnight, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I think Egghead put themselves out of business. They tried to move from a brick and mortar business model to one based solely online. Of course they sucked at it. Egghead's execs could never build the online dominant powerhouse of Newegg. I cringe when they are mentioned in the same sentence.
- kjcdude, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Amazon.com now owns the brand
- roffelmeh, on 01/08/2008, -2/+16The CompUSA name is dirty.
- gllopc, on 01/08/2008, -2/+2Reminds me of the name "Hilton".
- Qtip42, on 01/08/2008, -4/+23Wow the two worst computers companies combined........form of......***** prices!
- Salanmon, on 01/08/2008, -4/+0Tigerdirect one of the worst? I know a lot are not favoring all those rebates but I'll above anything short of Newegg
- MarkOfTheDead, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1how do you figure? I built the specs equivalence of a decent machine dell is offering for a few hundred dollars less than Dell asking price ordering from tiger direct and about $150 cheaper than similar specs on newegg. It all depends on what you get and avoid making decisions based on rebates alone (nothing I chose had any rebate offer bundled in)
- GrayOne, on 01/08/2008, -2/+30Newegg > Tigerdirect
StaplesOffice MaxOffice Dept > Best Buy > Circuit City > CompUSA
TigerDirect - "You know you like reabates, bitch."- MalDON, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4newegg>frys>all
- thelostemperor, on 01/08/2008, -5/+1MicroCenter>all
- Akraz, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Actually, i work at TigerDirect and WE ALL HATE REBATES
- MarkOfTheDead, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I think he meant it as a slogan towards customers.
- wbeavis, on 01/08/2008, -0/+0TigerDirect - "Who really wants to be the first owner anyway?"
- orxor, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I don't know if I would agree with your comparison, I'd put Best Buy at the very end of the list. But then again that's like holding up 2 turds and trying to figure out which is better, in the end it doesn't really matter since they're all *****.
- sw33tsarin, on 01/08/2008, -1/+20I worked for CompUSA and they were perhaps the ***** company I have ever been employed by. They would rather have you walk business than sell a laptop or computer without "TAP." They'd have you pester the customer with the replacement plan until they either bought it or went somewhere else. Ridiculous way to sell anything. I was lead merchandiser for a year and a half and I was making 2 dollars less than what I'm making now at Best Buy as a Sales Associate. Have mercy on me, I'm a college student!
- wiggles, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2This was because they actually sold those systems at or below their own cost (which they did a ***** job at negotiating) -- they were counting on extended warranties and accessory sales to make up their profits from giving away computers at cost. If they would have actually charged a fair price for their accessories and had a moderate markup on their systems, they might still be in business.
- kerms, on 01/08/2008, -3/+9and we thought compusa couldn't get any worse
- cdawzrd, on 01/08/2008, -2/+7So now they will have lots of mail in rebates on all their items that make them cheaper than Best Buy, but they will never send you the rebate check? Great! 8-)
- foco2001, on 01/08/2008, -3/+1NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Zardoz, on 01/08/2008, -1/+5I used to like Comp USA a long time ago, but they slipped a lot in pricing, and even with a rebate the pricing was not that good. I am glad to see Tiger get the Comp USA brand, I hope they can do some good with it, I would love the see Fry's vs. Comp/Tiger price wars.
- gllopc, on 01/08/2008, -2/+8Crap - I was hoping Fry's would buy them. We don't have anything that cool here on the East Coast.
- aggrocrag, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1My hopes were similar. I was hoping Compusa would just die and then Fry's would teach my community what real deals were.
- iofthestorm, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1That sucks, although imo newegg is better because although a lot of the stuff at Fry's is cheap, the quality often has a direct correlation with the price, whereas on newegg you get great quality products for cheap prices. But yeah, Fry's is awesome, but the nearest one to me is around 20ish minutes away and the hassle of driving there and finding parking and looking around for stuff just isn't worth it. Newegg ftw.
- wbeavis, on 01/08/2008, -0/+020 minutes is a hassle? OMG, it must suck to live your life. The closest equivalent for me is Micro Center, which is a more than a 50 minute drive. Best Buy, CompUSA, WalMart and such have driven all the local small electronics shops out of business. I hate paying $15 shipping for and $8 cable with $0.50 worht of parts.
- Philbert, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1We have Fry's on the east coast?
- xero69, on 01/08/2008, -0/+12"We believe the value of the CompUSA brand remains very high. The company has a long legacy of value pricing, service and customer loyalty among consumers nationwide," said Systemax CEO Richard Leeds in a statement. "We view this acquisition as a strong complementary business to our TigerDirect operation."
Obviously Mr Leeds has never actually visited a CompUSA store in person. The "loyal customers" must be the same crowd still using AOL dialup.- peep, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1May be talking business costumers, there was a separate system and sales staff for them.
- SigmaDraconis, on 01/08/2008, -0/+15"The company has a long legacy of value pricing"
[Extended laugh track plays] - eclectro, on 01/08/2008, -1/+12TigerDirect. We have a special dumspter for the rebates you send us, we care that much. Oh, and thanks for trusting us with your credit card number.
- cawpin, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1That dumpster is labeled "Retards too stupid to fill out a form and mail it."
- rkiga, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2i have never bought anything from tigerdirect, but you're an idiot if you think that tigerdirect has anything but the worst reputation with their rebates. i think they've since switched rebate houses, but it's too late now. go look on slickdeals/fatwallet and read the horror stories. they seem to have gotten a lot better in the past year or two, but how they ran their business in their first few years has left a bad impression on many. go google their name and see what the #10 result is.
- cawpin, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1That dumpster is labeled "Retards too stupid to fill out a form and mail it."
- RevHelix, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2Hrm... so much for being a vulture at a CompUSA on my next trip into the US.
Will this mean that TigerDirect will now sell more Apple gear aside from iPods?
Granted the 4 TigerDirect stores in the GTA (Toronto, ON) could stand to
use more interesting equipment that I would need.
Sadly TigerDirect doesn't seem to carry 6ft monitor
cables at the stores, odd.....
Otherwise they have some nice deals from time to time,
but not anything I'm interested in. - redtruck, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Doesn't this just mean I'll have to pay sales tax on Tigerdirect purchases now?
- MrESaulved, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Some states have snuck in a line item that requires you to tally your out of state purchases and then figure tax owed on those items you did not pay taxes on, scaled to your adjusted gross income.
Isn't that nice? Check your state returns carefully geeks, you don't want to give the man any reason to call you a tax cheat, and this is a very easy item to miss.- cawpin, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1That would be the communist state of California, mainly. I don't know of any others.
- MrESaulved, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1That's the ignorance I'm trying to caution everyone against. It's nearly 20, twenty, states that have out of state tax on purchased items.

- MrESaulved, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1That's the ignorance I'm trying to caution everyone against. It's nearly 20, twenty, states that have out of state tax on purchased items.
- redtruck, on 01/08/2008, -0/+0Not in Texas. We don't even have state income tax where they could slip that in.
Online stores that have brick & mortar in Texas (like Compusa) add sales tax upon online checkout, so I usually avoid them the minute I see that charge in the cart. 8.25% on top of shipping can add up mighty quick.
- cawpin, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1That would be the communist state of California, mainly. I don't know of any others.

- reverland, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2You know I was going to miss all of those mail in rebates with Compusa, but now that Tigerdirect has bought them I know that every great offer will have an asterisk next to it.
- Nekura20x6, on 01/08/2008, -2/+7I had one horrible shopping experience at TigerDirect and never went back. It took me longer to sour on CompUSA, but after the manager of the downtown Chicago location basically accusing me of stealing something to get a refund (even though I shopped there all the time and had a receipt), I finally gave up there, too. CompUSA and TigerDirect deserve each other - two crappy companies that will drive each other out of business even faster as a duo.
- Phoenyx, on 01/08/2008, -1/+23It's all a lie. They don't sell tigers at all, let alone direct.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1They gave you the run-around too?
- AlKo, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Nah... they just scream "Tiger!" like Sagat does whenever they ship stuff... it's in the company memo.
- lunarworks, on 01/08/2008, -2/+6Tiger Direct. A shop full of crap straight off the boat from unnamed factories in China. Ick.
- Akraz, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Hmm... im wonder how i build my quad core gaming machine which has worked flawlessly from them. not to mention i work for them... yeah, must be a bunch of chinese crap.. oh wait, it works. so i guess then its a bunch of stuff from china that...works?
- technoredneck, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Systemax actually assembles their stuff & supports it here--or that's what they say, at least. I've had one of those build-to-order Systemax computers since early 2005. (I was too big of a wuss to build my own then.) It was very reasonably priced, and I haven't had a problem with it aside from it being ugly.
- uptown, on 01/08/2008, -1/+4This is like going from bad to worse....
- aresef, on 01/08/2008, -0/+6At least Bawls is 15% off...and counting. Heh yeah, act now.
- MalDON, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Then the local CompUSA closed I cleared them (and my bank account) out of bawls.
- Salanmon, on 01/08/2008, -3/+1I never bought any serious items in compusa, i first heard of tigerdirect by founding one of their magazines back at '01, i would spend my passtime gazing at the products and reading info. i finally bought from them last summer for a graphics card and 2gig mem for just over $200 and bought a mp3 player from newegg about a month after. i'll recommend both sites
- Mobiletek, on 01/08/2008, -1/+5Sounds about right....TigerDirect is cheap and sucks and CompUSA is expensive and *****...Interesting to see what happens. No more CompUSA stores!
- grantilius, on 01/08/2008, -2/+2im all for this, newegg ripped me the hell off... twice.
- CMiYC, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3Does this mean the going out of business sale will end? Because I've been waiting for their LCD TVs to drop below 15% off....
- DanC922, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1They're 20% off now and still quite a bit more than other places. And you don't have the option of an extended warranty.
- Amazetbm, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1*****, there goes the deep discounts.
- marklittle, on 01/08/2008, -2/+9Easy way of dealing with Tigerdirect rebates...AVOID EM.
Repeat: You will not receive it. Just walk away.- cawpin, on 01/08/2008, -2/+1You forgot to finish your next to last sentence so I'll do it for you.
You will not receive it if you are retarded.
- cawpin, on 01/08/2008, -2/+1You forgot to finish your next to last sentence so I'll do it for you.
- TagginNoah, on 01/08/2008, -3/+4What a joke.
That's what CompUsa was known for -- their great prices and easy availability.
Tigerdirect came in and "cut" everything to "wholesale" prices.
But will soon go under.
Best Buy has better deals.
Go home.
Tigerdirect's ceo is a fumbling idiot. Community college douche.- grantilius, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2yeah, because snatching up a company and its assets with nation wide brand name recognition at cents on the dollar of its value is stupid. take some accounting. and if you knew anything then you would know best buy and other predominantly brick and mortar establishments have on average a 30% higher markup on products then web-based stores to turn a profit. Ps. i looked it up and the tiger ceo went to university of Miami for undergraduate and law, which is ranked 52 in the country in the usnews rankings. (http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/usne ... burnt.
- thestaton, on 01/08/2008, -3/+1Tiger Direct will go under in less than 24 months. Good luck trying to justify this as good will on the books.
- prodge, on 01/08/2008, -0/+0Examine the business performance of TigerDirect before making such a false statement.
- detree, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2CompUSA had the worst customer service in the world. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out losers.
- Philbert, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3Now I have two stores to remember not to shop at.
- gfreeman223, on 01/08/2008, -1/+5Tiger Direct is the worst online retailer for compuer parts by far... I was a fool and bough the main components for my Core 2 Duo gaming rig ($1000 or so) from them, and never received any of the Tiger Direct rebates.
ZipZoomFly, and Newegg have MUCH better delivery times, prices (considering they don't use faux rebates) and shipping times. ZZF even offers $2 shipping on everything.
CompUSA always sucked in terms of quality of parts, prices, and service, but DAMN, getting snapped up by TigerDirect will only mean more suckage - GeneralKickass, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1They can go out of business all they like as long as they pay by rebates. :-(
- kurtwinter, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Well I for one am happy that once again odd ball parts are available quickly - who wants to order and wait for a replacement fan, screws or misc. parts? Of course, I wouldn't buy anything expensive there, maybe that's why they went out of business to begin with?
- dildobaggins, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2CompUSA is total crap and I'll always shop at Newegg over just about anywhere else anyway so this means nothing to me.
- frakingcylons, on 01/08/2008, -2/+1TIGER: ALL YOUR STORES ARE BELONG TO US!
- UncleCrapper, on 01/08/2008, -1/+8The article specifies that Systemax bought CompUSA for $30 million, but you can't forget the $10 million mail in rebate.
- Caviarmy, on 01/08/2008, -0/+0And lo, in the resurrection, for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
