  • Totz83, on 07/29/2008, -0/+7Ok well it still doesn't remedy the issue, every day I come onto Digg, about 50% of the front page is taken up with stuff submitted by a tiny percentage of users. If limiting the number of shouts doesn't help to balance that out then maybe they could implement a system that only allows one large shout to be sent per story, that way if for example MrBabyMan shouts to 100 people, they wont be able to forward his shout to 100 people each.

  • inactive, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3There is already a limit to shouts that occurs due to the way shouts are created. First, you can only shout to 100 people at a time. So if you have three hundred mutual friends that HAVE THE ABILITY TO RECEIVE SHOUTS...SHOUTS ON you have to do three separate shouts. Second, between each shout you have to wait fifteen to thirty minutes. So if you still want to do those three shouts it might take you an hour and a half.

  • BotchaMcCoola, on 07/29/2008, -1/+1Oops, not very clear of me, I see. Math can be a bitch. Here is another try. Let us say 9 people responded, 7 with up diggs and 2 with down diggs. Then the net result that will show is +5, right? That is 7 - 2 = +5. But if 99 had responded with 52 up diggs and 47 down diggs, the result will be 52 - 47 = +5 again. So I am suggesting to still show the net diggs but also show the total number of responses like the 9 or 99. I hope that is clearer..

Since this is a controversial subject, I thought it'd be worth asking.
  • ToeKneeLin, on 07/29/2008, -7/+2When is Digg going to stop censoring content with the use of the Digg Bury Brigade? (Google "Digg Bury Brigade" for Wired article). Doesn't that completely contradict the idea of a user-based newsfeed?

    It's a bit like Democracy in America; the illusion cannot last forever. When Americans vote for a new President, they think they have a choice, but in all actuality, it's an illusion of choice. What good is a choice when the only two people to be chosen from are on the same team?

    The majority of diggers think that their digg is worth the same as anyone else, but as we have seen from the featured content on digg, Digg content is definitely filtered by an elite of Diggers. Do you think the illusion of a Digg Democracy of Netizens will last forever?

    Zero with 5 ups and 5 downs, or with 50 ups and 50 downs. Why not also
    show the total responses or votes - the 5 or the 50? It is a measure of overall
    interest in the item.
