- saundby, on 07/25/2008, -0/+0I'll need to make sure I pack some pads and a stick when I fly Air Canada. I wonder if they'll give me preferential treatment if I put a stick and pair of hockey gloves in my carry-on? They'd be dang useful at the luggage carousel.
- glasgowduo, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1This practice by airlines has LONG bothered me. Seth nails it. They do this to you when you are at your most vulnerable and have no choice. Pass the credit card, or you sit in the airport lounge going nowhere! SHAME ON THEM! (hey, we're only the guys who keep you in business, after all...)
- LewLew, on 07/26/2008, -0/+0It would be a good idea for UPS or someone to open up desks at airports and offer to transport bags at a lower cost.
- domedia, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1You would think given the current state of the airline industry, carriers would want to take care of whatever customers they still have left. Instead, the list of short-term nickle-and-dimers seems to be growing by the minute. Just went through this with US Airways. As I'm reading through the list of all the things you're not allowed to carry on board anymore, I was hit with the new per-bag fees for checked luggage, which you have to pay at the ticket counter upon check-in. At the very least, it makes more sense for the airlines to tack on this (tacky!) additional charge at the time you purchase your ticket. At that point in time, it's just one more line item adding up to a grand total. Nailing you right when you are most frustrated and stressed trying to catch your flight is just cruel, taking customer service to a whole new low.
