- Flump5000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20hope they dont. would ruin everything. "now sync flickr with your 360!"
- valona, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Its number one in terms of page impressions.
Number one in terms of unique user visits.
Extremely profitable.
Expanding services.
Just because you don't use it, doesn't mean hundreds of millions of others don't. - TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I don't get it...MS is some evil monopoly that needs to be stopped
yet Larry Elison is buying companies in double digits...and yet noone has said anything...
OH I FORGOT..........Oracle is the tech company noone cares about...
Bill Gates: "But Oracle...."
Judge: "WHO!!?!?!...ok you're making people up now" - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Yes, yes, Microsoft should buy Yahoo! - We can't have any of that competition *****. And certainly not any innovation. Why innovate when you can buy it! We need a good ol' American monopoly... more so than what we have now, dammit!
And once Microsoft buys Yahoo, Google should buy Microsoft. - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7yes, i could see that adding features would be horrible, how dare they implement options that may be convineint for some people
- GrayOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I always thought it would be MSOL vs Yahoogle.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hasn`t anyone noticed that Yahoo messenger and Windows Live messenger are INTEROPERABLE ???(they already have something going on) MSFT would be smart to buy Yahoo. I read all my news on there (their news site is the world`s number one) and all their services work very well and are easy to use. Yahoo Mail is number one in the world if you havn`t noticed , and continually gets top reviews. Why is it ok for Google to buy something , but not ok for MSFT ?
- iAlex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yahoo will never be bought up by Microsoft.
Microsoft might wanna buy Yahoo, but Yahoo will never accept it.
Yahoo is too good for Microsoft. Well Microsoft could earn on it, but would Yahoo? No, not at all. - AbhishekGoyal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I used to work for Yahoo 3 years back and this used to be a very debated topic then ;-)
- valona, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5$36 billion. Not exactly pocket money, even for MS. I couldn't see how it would be a positive thing. Yahoo may be running second in search and revenue behind Google, but its still the most visited website in the world in terms of unique visitors, and the length of time they spend on the site. And its immensly profitable. Letting MS get in there and take this portfolio would be no good for innovation. Yahoo are pushing Google to innovate, as well as the other way round. The recent purchases (flickr, del.icio.us, facebook) have been wise moves, they haven't been changed much (apart from using a Yahoo login for flickr), and most importantly they ensure innovation and healthy competition. It has been good for us as users. Letting MS loose on this would not be a good thing.
- Hellman109, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yahoo owns too many competitors to itself, and Google is getting that way fast (although atleast most are Google branded).
Yahoo needs to reconsider its branding and how it competes with itself before they would be a good buy. - yllabianbitpipe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1interesting. sounds like a blofeld plot for some reason.
- trghpy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OxyMoron: "Yahoo owns too many competitors to itself"
As a yahoo stock holder I sure as hell hope yahoo isn't competing with it self. - jrdot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I doubt this would work out smooth - webtwodotzero's version of the Yankees signing Randy Johnson
- dolemite5005, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Flump5000: you say that like its a bad thing. Oh wait, I just noticed the apple logo as your avatar, now I understand. Will, at least your pointless comment is being +'d up by all the other Apple fans around here with no common sense.
- Flump5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@dolemite
actually i own a 360 (and love it), i use flickr, and i dont own a mac. i just think microsoft sucks. - TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1please go into more detail about the branding issue...I'm interested...
- trghpy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@r2d7
Has the gooberment stopped any mergers during the Bush administration?
Why would they stop them now? - kingd0m, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think these corporate companies should set money aside so that people who want to innovate have the funding there from a company. With lots of research at hand as well.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Um, google isn't a defacto monopoly and MS is?
- scurr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting. However Yahoo! has a much lower market cap than its partner in the UK - BT - who has also been touted as a target for Microsoft (unwanted). So it would be an ideal opportunity for a merger between BT and Yahoo! BT is rapidly trying to increase its web exposure and counter the threat from web based telephone services.
So perhaps the target it correct, but the buyer isn't... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1My first non-school issued email address was with geocities.com. I have used the same yahoo address since yahoo ate geocities. If M$ eats yahoo I will finally become a gmail user.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1If this happens, I am out of a job :(
- monticello, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4*That is sooo true i dont use Yahoo as it confuses and the reason being their branding issues.*
------------------------
I reaaaaally doubt that's based on anything factual - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Microsoft will have to recode all PHP/Perl/Python code into dot Net.Thats a lot of work considering Yahoo's size.
From What I see, Google and Microsoft will be the only two big player in the days to come.Microsoft does not seem to have a bright future. - TrevorBradley, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Coming from someone who actually *remembers* akebono.stanford.edu back in 1995...
Who the ***** is Yahoo!?
Wait, aren't they those instant messaging people?
Seriously, does anyone even use Yahoo anymore? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Oh man, I love Merrill Lynch. My favorite company! Up 9% in a month!
- fgrieco, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1This would be great for MS... as much as Microsoft has tried to diversify, they still get the bulk of their revenue and ALL their profits from Windows, Windows Server, and Office. If they really want to make it in the 21st century, they're going to have to do better in M & A than buying stuff just to pump up what they already have, 'cuz that Windows stuff is going to dry up someday.
- kingd0m, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3That is sooo true i dont use Yahoo as it confuses and the reason being their branding issues.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2The government won't let them buy Yahoo.
- NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3It'd prolly help google out. Cause would anyone use Yahoo Live.
*thinks*
I guess the same people who use msn.com to search the internet. - csc7811, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2yes,I like that
- kenvsryu, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I wonder how much they spent on Live and now that'll be up in smoke.
- kingd0m, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2An acuisition would be good only for the customer base as M$ new video upload site soapbox is brilliant and also their new live services.
I would like M$ to buy Sony esp their Playstation brand, sony will be able to then payoff some major debts. - G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3eh.... I can't see Microsoft making that radical of a move. Google should just buy everyone. It would be so much easier.
- benlundquist, on 10/12/2007, -19/+9I kind of wish they would, just so my dislike of Yahoo would be less irrational.

What is Digg?
