This wiki is already under attack...
EDIT: I missed "L John Doerr updabut" and "Chromed out 1100" - execute85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've heard this garbage from countless organizations. This and the "Lets not help out the headhunters by publishing org charts."
Both of these threats vastly outweigh the benefits of publishing an open and correct organizational charts so that employees know who works for whom and how divisions are structured.
I recently worked at a company where they would not publish org charts to non-director employees. This meant that whenever we had a question of "who do I email regarding xxx", we had to go up to a director level position and try to get them to figure it out.
Having a clear chain of command is a huge benefit. We're not talking about national security, so having this information public is beneficial to employees, potential employees, press, etc. etc.
Yes a "hacker" can benefit, but not that much. - detrux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LOL! "T-Rex and a tapir" work for Castro's revolutionary guard at Google.
- beeudoublez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like the org chart better over here: http://www.theyrule.net/

- BrandonTurner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3That tool has horrible functionality, if they try and copy the look of google maps, they should at least make it work as good.

http://www.cogmap.com - rmhlee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Custom...too bad none of the options are available for inclusion in existing blogs or sites.
- metachor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1While people are laughing about this site already being under attack because bogus entries have been added to previously entered org charts, such a tool could give rise to more insidious security concerns.
In particular, publicly posting the names and organizational relationships of a company's employees could simplify the research needed by a potential hacker to find targets for social engineering. Or, combined with a tool such as fingergoogle (http://www.ethicalhack.org/downloads.php), it would be trivial to deduce the naming convention for usernames of an organization's domain in order to mount password attacks against particular users.
It would be great to host something like this within an organization's intranet, but I would prefer not to use it with external hosting. - bhalliburton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.cogmap.com - nuff said.
