- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10One thing that the article surprisingly didn't mention is that in late May, Wal-Mart brought together a group of experts to discuss selling E-85 (85% ethanol and 15% gasoline) at the 383 gas stations it owns (mostly at Sam's Clubs). This would be a major boost to ethanol, since even in Minnesota, with 1/3 of the nation's E-85 pumps, a relative scarcity of E-85 gas pumps is holding back production & sales of more ethanol-ready passenger vehicles.**

- Macam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5While I understand the cynicism that a mix of former politicians and corporations can induce, it's worth noting that not everything either group does is pure evil. Wal-Mart may engage in questionable business practices, if not downright horrific business practices at times, and they may be in a public relations pickle at the moment, but if the largest retailer can actively support and implement environment-friendly policies, we should all applaud it. Just like how even I, ever the critic, had to applaud Bush's decision to create one of the largest protected marine areas a few weeks back. This story is a good thing and I hope these kinds of policies gain traction across the business community.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I hope english isn't your native language.
- goodoldharris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3As long as Wal-Mart's business depends on selling as much cheap junk as possible, it will never be an environmental leader.
- NickDouglas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Financial blog DealBreaker explains why this is a shrewed move by Wal-Mart: http://www.dealbreaker.com/2006/07/opening_bell_7706.html
"It's smart of them to invite Al Gore to come talk about global warming. It makes them look good and let's them tout continuing advances to their supply chain that makes it more energy efficient. And next time Al Gore is stumping for president, it's less likely that he'll single the company out for being a bad earth citizen." - jellyroll713, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4That is *****! The color of your skin has NOTHING to do with how successful you can be in this day and age! Work hard in school, get college scholarships and get an eduction and you can do anything.
- Egoist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"had to applaud Bush's decision to create one of the largest protected marine areas a few weeks back"
LIES! He just wanted a protected area so he and his cronies can fish and kill all of the marine life there while not allowing any competition. NO FISHING FOR OIL! NO FISHING FOR OIL! - DiggGreenHeart, on 02/20/2009, -0/+0As bad as Wal-Mart is on social issues, they're really expanding on environmental issues. Their packaging matrix that all suppliers have to pass is quite revolutionary. They're also working with factories in China to make them more environmentally responsible. Simply due to their scale, anything they do in sustainability reverberates worldwide.
- Toon, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Rock and roll, bitches! Get out the brews and the shrooms, bro, because I'm camping this bad boy like ***** Woodstock!
You had me at "quarterly conference on sustainability."
Don't tell me there will be charts and graphs at this thing because you'll blow my ***** mind, man. - Gotar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAggxIECe5M&mode=related&search=al%20gore

- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1giggle, you are too clever.
- krewemaynard, on 10/12/2007, -12/+8Al Gore will be giving pointers to Wal Mart? Isn't that akin to Ted Kennedy teaching Drivers Ed?
- a1270, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1When I see anything with Al Gore that's what comes to mind. If he saved the world for aliens from Mars I would think the same things
- nlight, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2He invented the Internet.
- a1270, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1It's English, mrASSMAN.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+8Actually try that the other way around. Most minorities have a hard-on for liberals as the liberals are the ones that create and fund all the social entitlement programs they love. While conservatives would rather give the money bakc to the tax payers in not the the people with their hand out while sitting on their collective asses. The thing I can't understand is a guy that can't sustain a run for office giving a speech on sustainability.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4what i can't understand is why don't more conservative politicans bring up affirmative action? it is an embarrasment to the dem party.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -20/+2i know this is irrelevant to the post, but...how can liberals support affirmative action?
this is crippling our country.
thats the difference between liberals in america and liberals in every other country.
american liberals have a hard-on for minorities.
