- dext3r, on 01/09/2009, -0/+32***** this guy.
- BuzzEdition, on 01/08/2009, -0/+24FTA:
“The argument that I would make as a prosecutor would be that to the extent that Madoff ignored a legal obligation to preserve his assets, it is some indication that he would be willing to ignore other obligations, like remaining in the jurisdiction,” Mr. Carter, who is now a partner in New York at the law firm of Dorsey & Whitney, said. “It could be regarded as a step in the direction of flight.”
Ya' think? - AmazingSteve, on 01/09/2009, -1/+23Before they discovered this, they found out that this dick had already mailed over a Million dollars in gold jewelry to relatives. They should not only revoke his bail and send him to the can NOW, they should start rounding up these relatives on aiding and abetting charges and start freezing their assets as well because NOT ONE of them didn't know what was going on here. Might be a good message to all the scumbags out there that are yet to be uncovered. ***** with us and we're going to destroy the lives of everyone you come into contact with in regard to the matter at hand. This kind of douchebaggery would come to screeching halt if somebody thought that along with themselves, Their Mother, Father, adult children, would be going to jail as well.
- webyatri, on 01/09/2009, -0/+22why is he out on bail living in his luxury apartment? He should be in jail just as a symbolic gesture to the victims.
- WafflePirate, on 01/08/2009, -0/+21Madoff: "I don't know where those came from. I've never seen them in my life."
- stuartduff, on 01/08/2009, -0/+16"investigators found 100 signed checks worth $173 million in Mr. Madoff’s desk that were ready to be sent to family members and friends on the day of his arrest"
Yeah he isn't trying to hide anything or get shot of some assets is he?
haha - maz2331, on 01/09/2009, -1/+16Because only honest people kill themselves when they lose investor's money. True crooks don't because they are sociopaths.
- drmobutu, on 01/09/2009, -0/+14This is an outrage! He has has been out on bail, for weeks! Why hasn't he hung himself yet?
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -1/+14Who knows how much more money belonging to hard working american investors is stashed away by that ***** and his family of thieving bastards.
That ***** should get the chair. He's giving ALL americans the 2 fingered salute when he tries to stash even more money after being caught in the first place. The length of his jail sentence will be very important as it will send out a message to other corrupt CEOs.
But I think he'll get 2 years maximum in some soft white-collar prison. - carjackd, on 01/09/2009, -0/+10I would pay $10 for someone would hit this guy in the face with a pie
- webyatri, on 01/09/2009, -0/+8and couldn't he have just sneaked out a couple million to some island and lived off of it. Oh I forgot it was greed that started all this.
- borez, on 01/09/2009, -1/+9I still think he should be in a cell and not his luxury apartment, he's a crook, one of the biggest of all time... he should be treat accordingly.
- DrVic, on 01/09/2009, -0/+7an acid pie?
- TryTheVeal, on 01/09/2009, -0/+7How were this guy's assets not frozen???
- DrVic, on 01/09/2009, -1/+7I say a lot of mean ***** sometimes, and usually I feel a little bad about it later. But this is one person that I do not give a ***** about. To quote Ivan Drago "if he dies, he dies" string this ***** up in the street and take every ***** penny from him and his family. ***** this *****
- sponeil, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6He should've sent those checks to his family through Nigeria instead. I know a guy there...
- GeezerD, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6Put his ass in jail.
- twiztidsinz, on 01/09/2009, -2/+8I like how you pronounce "aluminum" as "al-lou-mini-um" with an extra "i" sound after the n.
You people sure love adding extra letters and sounds to your words. - baggi, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6One can only wonder how many crooked judges, politicians, etc were paid off to keep this career criminal out of jail. Madoff may be the worst criminal of all time, yet he lolls around his penthouse while his victims commit suicide. What is wrong with this picture? If ever there were a guaranteed hardened criminal that no house arrest will make honest, this creep is it.
- yogurtslinger, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6He still Madoff with a ***** of money.
- ASfinkterSezWut, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6He almost Madoff with the money!
...argh... sorry, something beyond my control compelled me to type it once it popped into my brain. - sh0rtstop00, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5One of them was promised to be deposited into a Swiss bank account!
- seobro, on 01/10/2009, -0/+5Please, when the chairman of NASDAQ is a crook, and the senators who write the laws can buy their seat. You want to tell me again about the law.....
- bluesman3535, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5Did the judge didn't get his 'house arrest" ruling check yet? Also the media seems to be helping to obscure the details of this case. It's a huge scandal involving many people and after weeks we have only one name to despise, Bernie Madoff. Something is rotten in Denmark.
- vidaliasweet, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5I must have missed the part where this prevented him from getting out on bail in the first place.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -2/+7No.
- mrwynd, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5With the allegations and confession of the hugest Ponzi scheme ever, why the hell didn't they freeze his assets? Why was he allowed to pay the 10 million dollar bail? Isn't that money he STOLE?! It's absurd that he can be allowed to do anything financial at this point. PUT HIM IN PRISON.
- jason210, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5I wanna know where the 10 million in bail came from? If it's not his money anymore why are we letting him bail himself out with it?
- evilmike916, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5why the hell is this CRIMINAL STILL FREE AND LIVING IN A *****' 10 MILLION DOLLAR PENTHOUSE!?!?!
he's ruined millions of lives yet he's still living the high life while some of his victims are in/near bankruptcy. and why aren't his assets frozen...oh i'm sorry...why aren't his ill gotten gains frozen? this guy was running a billion dollar ponzi scheme and people are surprised that he's trying to hide money. THAT'S HOW HE MADE HIS MONEY IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!
this guy should be living in a Motel 6 somewhere. Or even better in jail where he'll get to know the feeling of how it feels to get ***** in the ass, just like he ***** all his investors. - Solkre, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5Two hands, two fingers?
- blur13, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5what a ***** scumbag. meanwhile the db is chilling in his penthouse on the upper east side...off with his big fat head!
- twiztidsinz, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5"thru" is not a word. It's a shortened/?slang? version of "through". I think I've only seen it used on signs, like "Drive Thru" at a fast food place.
- Paranor01, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5not just the cheques, but compare the amount of them with what is said later in the article:
"The business is incorporated in Britain and documents filed with a British registry show that the unit had about $170 million in assets when Mr. Madoff’s firm, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities L.L.C., collapsed last month."
Gee... think we know where the "assets" were going - krahzee, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4Theyw were, but these checks were in his desk BEFORE they arrested him. They found them when they went to his house for the arrest.
Trying to freeze his assets prior to arresting and charging him with a crime would have been damn near impossible. - normalkid0615, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4This is happening ALL over America. There was just a case of this in Philly, same story, but less money. Still in the millions. You are telling me that the "government" had no idea this is going on? PLEASE!!! They are ALL in bed with Madoff and other schemers. Its a sad day in America when our leaders are unfit to serve, and only serving themselves.
- AlternativeDigg, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4I think he should be jailed so that he cannot interfere or do more damage.
- twiztidsinz, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4You mean the "one fingered salute"?
- evilmike916, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4wouldn't you think it would have been a good idea that before "punishing" the ***** by "holding" him in his penthouse under 24 hour surveillance that you would have searched the *****' place first so that he couldn't do something like this in the first place...
"hmm...here's his checkbook that allows him access to millions of dollars that isn't his...ahh just leave it."
they probably left his firearms and tub full of cocaine there as well...geniuses. - davebg8r, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4Well, the general public and especially our elected officials, judges, and lawyers, are fools and play us all the time. Thats why the bailout passed and remains secret. Along with all the money for the war, all the investigations into Blackwater, Halliburton, etc, etc.
- duffman03, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4"If he dies, people will only attend his funeral to make sure he is dead"
- diggydougie, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4What good would waterboarding do? I think they know what he did.
- jason210, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4Madoff just did what the FED continues to do to us.
- groo68, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4They should have set his bail at the amount of money he stole.
- NotoriousRoscoe, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltssFDNG5Tk
:) - krahzee, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4They need to keep him safe to find out where the money went. They have no clue where half of it went and until they do, they can't put his safety in jeopardy.
Madoff's assets have been frozen, and he has been ordered to develop a list of his clients.
The big speculation is that he hid a good deal of money in forgein accounts and that the SEC is nervous that other governments will make a play for that money to reimburse their own defrauded Maddoff investers.
Until they recover every cent they think is out there, they will protect the guy so that his investors can get back as much as possible. - bjs3171, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4wow.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4lol that would end quicker than the chair.
- maz2331, on 01/09/2009, -2/+5Meh - already done. Ever hear of the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time? The one called "Social Security" that is guaranteed to melt down due to shifting demographics?
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3ice cream?
