- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30You don't already have a hole in your ass?
- MaxPowers2007, on 10/10/2007, -4/+30# 2 - # Farmer’s Market - The price listed is not the price you have to pay. Always try to round the pounds to a near dollar. So, if peaches are $1.50 per pound and you weigh in at 2.89 pounds, say “I’ll give you $4.” They’ll be happy to get the $4 and you’ll get the extra peach.
**
So instead of paying $4.34 this ***** wants to grind the damn peach farmer down to $4.00. What a bitch. Its not bad enough that vendors of locally produced food have to compete against the big-box mega-markets - now they got Amy B. Scher from a typical small Jewish family trying to grind them out of $0.34? What a soulless killjoy loser.
Being a cheap prick is not nearly as enjoyable as being generous with your cash. This ***** probably tips 7.5% on a restaurant tab... probably after subtracting tax and drinks from the total.
Miserly people attract cheapness and mediocrity and have less of everything in the long term. Generous people's energy attracts money and brings them more money and happiness in the long term.
God I hate cheap bastards. - colin409, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22The article mentions saving money on furniture purchases by asking for free delivery. What they don't mention is that furniture prices are usually negotiable. I've never paid full price for furniture and only rarely deal with a salesperson that doesn't happily negotiate with me. The same can also be said for appliances. You can save hundreds of dollars at a time that way.
- Nougat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19That's why he's full of *****.
- d2002, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20And you'll be real popular at the nudie bar.
- d2002, on 10/10/2007, -11/+25Personally, I like to carve my initials into the furnitures before buying them. You'd be surprised how that simple negotiation technique can drastically lower the prices on furniture. Apparently there isn't a lot of Dave Morgans, Dirk Mansfields, or Drew Muckers out there buying the kind of furnitures that I like.
- epilonious, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Ugh... this article seems like the perfect way to become a salesperson's worst nightmare.
I prefer the "spend less than you earn" and "don't buy ***** you don't really need" method to a fatter wallet. - PhilTheRed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8The problem is that in the US, waiters get paid almost nothing. I know in Texas, they're usually paid less than $3 an hour. So not getting a tip is not getting paid.
- w9thwonder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Paying cash always helps in the negotiation.

- WatermanStudios, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13So this is basically a HOW TO guide to being a cheap bastard.
- Snakedal337, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Just make sure you negotiate with the right people, I can't tell you how many people try to with bottom of the chain employees, and they simply have no power over the price.
- Lewie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7"its" is possessive, "it's" is a contraction.
- jimic79, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8You're damn right. Especially with the foodservice part. I hate people that tip 11.8% because their tea didn't come out at 195 degrees. To quote Lewis Black "You should tip 20% always... always... well, unless the waitress took a ***** on your food"
- TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Minimum wage doesn't apply to servers. That's common knowledge, dumbass.

- pbgswd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5dude, shop craigslist.
- PhilTheRed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Yes. That's the price of going out to eat. If you can't afford it, make food at home.
- pjkli, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I have no idea why you are getting dugg down. I dig you up for your astute sense of negotiation.
- swanny89, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Except for waiters, who are expected to receive tips, thus employers are not required to pay minimum wage.
- Eryin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4OH NO!
The secrets of getting rich instantly have been lost permanently - iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4And your FACE probably looks ridiculous, what with the ***** from shoving it up your own ass.
Why do people have to be such douchebags? - johnn11238, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"How to be a cheap pain-in-the-ass 101"
- sherbertbones, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You have probably never worked in a service-based job in your life, goon
- vango, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5exactly - lots of furniture has so much mark up that the owner or mgr will happily cut a deal to make a sale
- johnn11238, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4How do I get to be "smartest enough" to be rich like you???
- spectre_25gt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3#7 is ridiculous. If you've got a nice picture, then you don't want to use one of the crappy frames at Wal-mart or Target. Professional framing uses archival quality matboard and, often, UV resistant glass to keep your picture in good shape for a longer period of time. Doing all of this yourself costs a good amount of money.
I learned to have my work done professionally when I was in art school and I'll never go back. - MaxPowers2007, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3@wobblebotton,
WTF makes me racist? RTFA idiot. She states she is from a small Jewish family - restating this does not make me racist you moron.
Thank you for the compliment about being a capitalist blow hard dick head. This is true, but I'm also one of the most generous tippers around... Always 25%+ on meals and 50-100%+ for bartenders.
What people fail to realize is that tipping well is not giving away money - it is buying great service for the next time. You always want the people that bring you food and drink to be happy to see you again.
There's a special place in hell for cheap *****. - Elliuotatar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3A DOLLAR? That's a sure way to make the waitress hate you. My god man. The minimum you should tip, even at a DINER, is $2.
I generally tip 20% unless: A) I'm made to wait more than five minutes for my waitress to walk by when I need her, or B) I've paid more than $20 for the meal because it's an expensive place or I've bought alcoholic drinks. Then they get 15%.
I've never had service so bad that I've tipped 10%.
You do realise that most waiters and waitresses don't get paid minimum wage, don't you? They might get like $3.50 an hour. Without tips theyd be making less than the guy at Burger King earns.
I think tips suck too, especially now that even places like Dominoes have a tip line on the charge slip. But until laws get changed so waiters have to be paid minimum wage, you should tip your waiter. It's built into the price of the food. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I guess maybe because the bike was cheaper, that wasn't too bad, but $25 is nothing. When I bought my bike a few years ago, the bike shop own called me when it came in and said "We have a problem...there is a small scratch on the frame behind the seat. I have to order another one. Or, if you want, you can take this one and I'll take $75 off the price." I told him I'd come take a look and that I would probably happily take it. I figured that being a bike guy, he was probably much more anal than I am about things like that, even though I am a bike guy myself. I was right. The scratches were TINY, and the guy has covered over it fairly nicely with some silver nail polish that matched the color pretty well and would prevent it from spreading.
I ended up not only getting $75 off, but when I said that I could probably just cover over that area with a tail light, he threw in a $25 headlight/taillight set for free. And the taillight covered the spot completely. At this point, it is probably the LEAST scratched spot on the bike. And I was going to get the lights anyway. - chsbrgr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Live below your means, always save a percentage of what you earn, invest your savings wisely = die rich.
- TheGonzo, on 08/13/2008, -0/+3try going for the floor models as well. i.e *Big Box Store item* and the last one is a floor display etc.
- TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Man, you must have a big dick.
- BobMysterioso, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I recently bought some furniture at Pottery Barn. The price was fair but they tacked on $150 for delivery + 10%!! service charge. Beware Diggers that shop at Pottery Barn.
Ha.. what a minority that is. - TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You should remember that waitresses don't get minimum wage, but well below it. Those tips make up their paycheck. I don't work in the food service industry, but I'm the kind humanitarian that realizes they have to go through a lot of ***** during their work day and at least need a small gift from my wallet to make their day.
Try not being an ***** to a waiter or waitress one day. They may help you out. - compgeek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I very simply say that if someone has a price that I've seen it cheaper elsewhere (99 times out of 100 it's actually true) they are very quick to negotiate especially at my local pawn shop cause they know I'll just as soon go buy from the video game store across the street or the electronics place in the mall.
- Archee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2At Staples, they give you 10% off for the floor model of any display if it's on clearance and the last item left.
- AxeSwinger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sears, a department store, will negotiate price on most durable goods and tools. I've also got them to lower their prices on clothes when buying ~200.00 worth of clothing at a time. The clothes trick works with Nordstrams as well you just need to be spending more money at the time. Just ask you would be surprised.

- TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3You guys know she mentioned being from a small Jewish family, right? Oh, you didn't. RTFA next time?
- TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3God SiSePuede you are so awesome. I'm sure when you're having some Guatemalan immigrant shine your $600 loafers you love to spit on his face and make fun of his servitude.
I don't know what part of Europe you've been to (or will claim you live in), but it's from my experience that most of them are *****. Why? Because being nice and courteous is not part of their job requirements (and if you're in France, not part of normal civility, either). - jimic79, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm a 25 year old web developer who can afford to tip 20%... and all these people that say "these people have these jobs because they deserve it" please, never ever go out to eat and never ever go out to a bar... You're the ***** that put these people into their ***** moods. Try working one day in the food service business... just try it. It'll be a little harder than your push-paperwork job because you can't hide behind your middle-manager in your cube.
- mahdaeng, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I usually don't try to haggle with the farmers. If I want to pay less, I'll go to a supermarket. If I want something more fresh and natural, I'll go to the farmers' market and expect to pay a little more for the better quality.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Yep, how to be cheap and bitchy. I hate people who find nothing pleasant or to their liking so they can bitch about it to get a few dollars off. If you do this - you suck.
- mickrussom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"There is a special pleace in hell for cheap *****"
No there isn't. You just die. But you cant take any of it with you. But you might want to give that tip for your kids' college education instead of a floozie pouring ethanol, one of the most destructive drugs (not that I don't partake), into people.
So you might want to get off the high horse on why people skimp on tips, and the prices for stuff sucks. You want a tip? Try pouring a generous drink vs. a watered down one. For the price they charge for booze, you should get a hell of a lot more. - iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Achalemoipas, I'm surprised that you've been dugg down. What you're saying is true, and all the replies I've seen to your comment thus far are completely idiotic and rude.
I'm endlessly amazed at the prevalence of morons in today's society. - trump48257, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1On framing stuff yourself: Hobby Lobby (if in your area) sells open back frames and frames with glass (both of which frequently go on sale for 1/2 off--like every other week one of the two is on sale). You can have them cut matte (choose something cheaper that they have in stock) for you for very cheap and they'll do it on the spot....just make sure and tell them you don't want them to frame it...just to cut the matte (make sure and give them what you want framed to measure and tell them the opening size). Tape just the top edge with their tape there in store (it's acid free) and stick it in the frame. Basically the same as having them frame it with less time and money....just sans the brown paper backing (which you can do yourself too if you want).
- iceschade, on 11/01/2007, -1/+2What you call "Cheap and Bitchy" to others is a survival trait. We don't all have the money to blow, and cash-saving tips are welcome.
