- nettas, on 11/08/2009, -1/+11Kobe on the Raptors was a great game. 81 points is amazing for a modern game
- amr678, on 11/08/2009, -1/+9MJ was and will always be better than Kobe.
- openthink, on 11/08/2009, -2/+9if you ever needed confirmation of depth knicks' had sunk -- which you didn't -- kobe's game there was it. he could've scored 200 if he and phil jackson wanted... pathetic for knicks, sweet for kobe
- martin992, on 11/08/2009, -4/+10Kobe is a phenomenal scorer, but he'll never be Michael Jordan. Jordan scored way more 50+ point games than Kobe and he didn't have a no handchecking rule to give him easy paths to the basket all the time."
- jaypooner, on 11/08/2009, -8/+13lakers '10 champions
- shamanking911, on 11/08/2009, -0/+4I hate it when everyone mentions MJ everytime Kobe's name comes up. Interview? comments will have MJ. Highlight reel? comments will have MJ. Game highlights of a lakers victory? comments will have MJ. Why can't people just leave him alone? I don't see this on any other player =/.
- person655321, on 11/08/2009, -1/+4no way is that going down
- LordBalderdash, on 11/08/2009, -1/+4nice typo in the first paragraph. his nickname is the Black Mamba, not the Black Mama. bit of a difference, there.
whether you love Kobe or hate him you have to respect how hard the dude works at his game. he's an all-time elite player, he's got the mvp, scoring titles, 4 rings to his name and absolutely nothing to prove - yet seeks out Hakeem Olajuwon in the offseason and manages to get The Dream to coach him all Summer on improving his post moves. His physical skills and talent make him a beast, but his drive and determination to be better are what make him a monster. - HeDiggMe, on 11/08/2009, -6/+9No one can score points like Kobe or MJ, but I still think Kobe is lacking in the defensive department compared to the GOAT
- unicoumi, on 11/08/2009, -1/+3pass it to kobe
- fozzymatic, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2Kobe "raped" a woman who had several other men's semen in her underwear, and was subsequently acquitted.
Kobe has had less 50 point games than MJ because he has been surrounded, throughout his career, by more offensively gifted players (Shaq, Gasol, Odom, etc). The Lakers don't need Kobe to put up 50 points, yet he still does with unparalleled regularity in this era.
"I still think Kobe is lacking in the defensive department compared to the GOAT" Kobe is a 9-time all defensive player.
While Kobe may be unlikeable personally, none of us know him, so why do you care? While you get hung up on misguided, incorrect criticisms of Kobe, you miss out on watching one of the best players, of any sport, dominate at his craft. Stop making sports into a soap opera and watch the game. - inactive, on 11/08/2009, -1/+3didnt he lose one of those high scoring games?
- Braincells1, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2This is simply a ludicrous claim given that defenses today are far more sophisticated than before - this is mainly the result of the increased talent pool and the technology available today in terms of exercise equipment and injury prevention. Based solely on statistics, the Celtics (2008) and Pistons (2004) were among the top defensive teams the NBA has ever seen. Despite what you may believe, handchecking still does exist today and the players know how to get away with it (See Bruce Bowen, Tayshawn Prince, Ron Artest, etc).
I believe Jordan is the GOAT but he played in a watered down era with weak drafts and new expansion teams being introduced to the league. Plus he had the benefit of having Scottie Pippen shut down the opposing teams best player on any given night. - ElAmo, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1who is this "greatest of all time" you speak of?
- lex0429, on 11/08/2009, -1/+2Nice Earl Manigault reference. Arguably the best jumper in the history of the game. he was like 6'1" and could easily grab things off the top of the backboard. There is an excellent movie about him that any basketball fan should see.
- TheBigBad, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1Odom is "offensively gifted"? He's averaged about 14 ppg while playing with the Lakers. And the majority of the time that Shaq was still there, Kobe wasn't even the leading scorer on the team.
The reason Kobe has less 50 point games than MJ is because MJ is the superior player. - ShingoEX, on 11/08/2009, -3/+2Pretty much. The sheer arrogance he displays will never make him tops in my book.
- TheBigBad, on 11/08/2009, -5/+4Had to do a compilation of 60+ point games, not enough time to put together a compilation of times he acted like a selfish, crybaby douchebag.
- fozzymatic, on 11/09/2009, -1/+0Lamar's 12 ppg comes as he is the Lakers 4th scoring option, he's not even a starter. Pippen's 16 ppg isn't ***** bro, especially during the era of anemic defenses that he played in. The reason Kobe has less 50 point games is because he doesn't need to. We will never know how many points Kobe could have put up because he is playing for the Lakers, who have never built teams around one person.
- anenokoji, on 11/08/2009, -4/+1Offensive skills? Or inability to pass?
- m3dos, on 11/08/2009, -5/+1Also: He's a rapist
- Humboldt1337, on 11/08/2009, -5/+1Most Valuable Rapist.
- AnthroNrdGrl, on 11/08/2009, -10/+5Buried for bringing more attention to the douch bag. I live in LA and can't support the Lakers because of him. And he's got nothing on Chamberlain or Jordan. Just saying
- PuddMaster, on 11/08/2009, -7/+2kobe isnt as good as jordan, but he is damn close.
