- drhee99, on 05/03/2008, -16/+50Anyone who says "ball hog" obviously doesn't watch basketball. This year the Lakers are probably one of the best passing teams in the league. See how they destroyed the Nuggets.
- Cglass, on 05/03/2008, -19/+49Being a huge Lakers fan I thought this was a no brainer, but after watching Chris Paul I understood the debate. Grats Kobe.
- eazhar, on 05/03/2008, -5/+34i see what you did there
- kansai22, on 05/03/2008, -6/+351. Kobe jumps over car
2. Kobe makes ridiculous pass
3. ??????
4. MVP - elcidcannon, on 05/03/2008, -14/+35Steve Nash isn't a media creation......he's that good.
- slamtv7, on 05/03/2008, -15/+34Wow, I'm not a fan of Kobe really but he obviously has skills. I am surprised he has not won it already this is news to me. He does deserve it.
- TBBucs, on 05/03/2008, -4/+20In my opinion, Kobe has been the best player in the NBA for a few years now, but this is the first year that I feel he is the most valuable player in the league. If you watch last year's games and then compare them to this year's, the evolution of Kobe and the Lakers as a whole is pretty substantial. Congrats Kobe.
- inactive, on 05/03/2008, -2/+16I guess that's how it goes if all your sports news comes from Digg front-page stories.
- ogmak, on 05/03/2008, -5/+18I agree, but Chris Paul will get his chance. Kobe should have had it last year as well, but at least he got it this year.
- xjeffx, on 05/03/2008, -12/+23It's hard to deny what Chris Paul did for the Hornet's this year but Kobe definitely deserved it. Kobe haters, get out.
- mowe, on 05/03/2008, -5/+13I would say that Chris Paul put up a very good fight, and I certainly hope he wasn't raped by Mr. Bryant.
- bensone1, on 05/03/2008, -5/+13he totally deserves it, he really played hard this year. with averaging almost 30 ppg, 6 rebounds, 5 assists in the regular season and an 84% ftt, he is catching on fire. go hawks! upset boston!
- inactive, on 05/03/2008, -12/+20you do know that the bitch accuser completely made up the story right?
- Jawkish, on 05/03/2008, -5/+12I don't see why people just cant accept that kobe won the MVP. As good as chris paul is, It is way to early in his career to start giving him MVP trophies. Kobe's team finished first in one of the hardest western conferences in nearly 30 years, even if it was by 1 or 2 games.
- mrogi, on 05/04/2008, -5/+12Kobe haters finally voted him MVP. It's about goddam time. Kobe has been the best player in the NBA for the past 7 years.
- MMaster23, on 05/04/2008, -0/+7ugh i feel like a huge nerd thinking that was the microsoft Most Valued Professional award
- mikee1680, on 05/03/2008, -5/+11it's not like the girl didn't want it.
- Jadey, on 05/03/2008, -2/+7No.... cite? Last I read was she wouldn't testify and Kobe said that he thought it was consensual but recognized that she did not. I didn't read that she recanted...
- greenlight2001, on 05/03/2008, -3/+8You understand that your comment will only be valid for about 5 seconds, right? You think the next 100 people are going to see the same thing you did?
- IpwnZnoobs, on 05/04/2008, -0/+5I don't think it can ever be "too early" to name someone the MVP if they deserve it. Abdul-Jabar won it his rookie season.
- NecroSexy, on 05/03/2008, -8/+13He's not a rapist. That girl she ***** was a whore: she had several different semen samples in her vagina.
- Jawkish, on 05/03/2008, -6/+10You're a Moron.
- Jawkish, on 05/03/2008, -1/+5no that will go to Allen Iverson
- Brennn10, on 05/04/2008, -3/+7It is about time he won the award. He is so darn good.
- MrM1yagi, on 05/03/2008, -2/+6That's "therapist" Mr. Connery.
- Jawkish, on 05/03/2008, -1/+5how about you stop watching games from 5 years ago and start watching them actually play this year.
- mowe, on 05/03/2008, -3/+7I think this was a year when *two* players deserved it. I'm a big Chris Paul fan, but I can't really say that Kobe didn't desrve to win just as much.
- FKCommander, on 05/04/2008, -0/+4Still not Jordan.
- Cglass, on 05/03/2008, -4/+8lol @ paul gasol, but trade chris paul to the lakers and see if they are lucky to get 42 as well.
The Lakers were already impressive without Pau, even with many players being injured. I laughed when the announcers kept commenting how the Clippers have the most injury games out of any team during the Laker Clipper game, but not once did they mention the Lakers who can't be far behind, what with the injuries to Ariza Bynum and the myriad of other players off and on throughout the season.
Next year should be great for the Lakers ;)
Oh yeah by the way, you are a moron =p - mal1964, on 05/04/2008, -0/+4"June 2003"
- devila2208, on 05/04/2008, -0/+3I love Kobe Bryant!! This is well-deserved and it's about time.
- mowe, on 05/03/2008, -0/+3Uhh...when did this happen? There was a game where the Nuggets scored 168(!) on the Sonics while they scored 116, is that what you are talking about?
- alacrity2005, on 05/04/2008, -0/+3You, apparently don't know what a "fact" is then.
- calibration, on 05/03/2008, -3/+6And the girl actually made up the story this time.
- SittinSidewayz, on 05/04/2008, -1/+4Interesting, I never clicked on this article and this got posted here! Was originally for 'Top 10 NBA fights', where they all sucked ass.
Bury my comment! - vainbrian, on 05/04/2008, -0/+3its 1-0 for the hornets. still needs 3 more so i wont laugh at you now:)
- lakerdodger, on 05/03/2008, -3/+6I'll just say what most analysts that hate Kobe say so I can seem like I know jack ***** about this topic.
Clearly you haven't watched Kobe this year. ***** idiot. - dsb101, on 05/03/2008, -7/+10much deserved for his all round numbers!
- Kas70, on 05/04/2008, -3/+6Not that I believe that girl was one, but even a whore has the right to say no.
- bc289, on 05/03/2008, -2/+5Doesn't matter. The lakers cut open teams numerous times this year during the regular season with their passing. Let's also not forget that this was an 8th seeded nuggets team that had 50 wins during the regular season in an extremely competitive western conference.
- inactive, on 05/04/2008, -0/+2she did recant. wiki it. the underwear had a bunch of other guy's semen stains on it, but not kobes. whole story was *****.
- alacrity2005, on 05/04/2008, -1/+3Yeah, cuz your bias isn't showing... Utter and complete moron, jackass.
- Takfam, on 05/04/2008, -1/+3Such an intelligent rebuttal! Not like the original post was intelligent to begin with, but was scraping the bottom of the barrel really necessary?
- lentmors, on 05/04/2008, -1/+3Clearly you're a douchebag.
- allenm7, on 05/04/2008, -2/+4Stop drinking that hatorade.
- drpleau, on 05/04/2008, -0/+2Watching Kobe play the last two years, has shown me that he has become a team player. Watching Chris Paul this year was amazing; he made his teammates look good, and he made smart decisions. Now comparing the two statistically we have:
Kobe Bryant putting up per game: 28.3pts, 6.3 reb, 5.4 ast, 1.8 stl, 45.9% FG% with 36.1 3pt%, 3.1 turnovers
Chris Paul putting up per game: 21.1pts, 4.0reb, 11.6ast, 2.7stl, 48.8% FG% with 37.0 3pts%, 2.5 turnovers
Both putting up solid numbers, but I think Paul has the edge with leading the NBA in assists and steals, and a very low number for turnovers for a point guard with that many assists.
Looking at team support, again Kobe has the edge both in starters and players coming off the bench(Lakers has one of the best benches this year). Their record with Gasol was: 27-9 75% winning, without 30-16 65%.
Chris Paul deserves the MVP this year. I don't see where Kobe can get a 1st place vote over Paul. The whole Kobe deserves it since he doesn't have a MVP, is a horrible argument. The MVP award is given to the individual that deserves it for that year, with no influence from past years. - gabrielbeug, on 05/03/2008, -3/+5HAHAHA, the Hornets won't even make it past the Spurs. Did you see the Lakers-Hornets game before the playoffs??
- alacrity2005, on 05/04/2008, -1/+3No, you're a moron because you THINK you understand how the game works, but really don't. You take Kobe off the current Laker squad and they would be lucky to win 20 games. Gasol spent most of the year with Memphis... remind us what they're record is again... Gasol isn't the reason the Lakers won 57 games. The lakers played 3/4 of the year without Bynum. He wasn't the reason they won 57. It was KOBE, numbnuts. The Lakers have spent ALL season dealing with a slew of injuries to VITAL players and still went for 57 wins and will make the finals, because of KOBE. The hornets might go 35 wins without Paul. They have West and Chandler and Pargo, who is much better than you think. (he used to be a Laker, so we know) Just look how the team plays with him in and Paul out. They are better with Paul, and Paul is great, but they would still with 35 - 40 games without him. Not only that, but a SG DOMINATED this league not too long ago, without a good point guard. He managed to win 5 or 6 MVP's without having to worry about the great PG's of his day. a SG can dominate and mean more to his team just as easily as a PG. It's been done before and it's just as true now. Take the rose colored anti-Kobe glasses off for just a second, would ya?
- gabrielbeug, on 05/03/2008, -2/+4You don't only look at stats, you look at the team's success and how well the teammates are playing. Lebron played well, but his team was mediocre. Chris Paul played well, but his teammates helped a lot and the Hornets were second in the west. Now, Kobe's playing extremely well, he's making his teammates better and playing with injured teammates and an injured finger. He definitely deserved it this year...
- brycelb, on 05/04/2008, -1/+3Another difference is that when Kobe has players that don't belong in the D-League he usually wins a championship. Kind of like Jordan. Jordan would have struggled just like Kobe if he had Smush Parker and Kwame Brown in the starting line up. Lets not forget that he has 3 titles this decade and a couple of more years left to add to that.
