- partysan, on 11/28/2008, -0/+14That's Spencer Hawes in the thumbnail though.
- d2002, on 11/28/2008, -0/+11I think he'll be a good fit for the Clippers. And by good I mean they deserve each other.
- AdonalFoyle, on 11/28/2008, -0/+10the greatest thing about this post is that shaq, disney, and space jam have nothing in common with each other.
- joebachana, on 11/28/2008, -1/+10Such a terrible way for a player to act in front of the young fans. NOT that Coach D'Antoni didn't exacerbate the problem by benching Marbury for most of the young season. All I can say is GOOD RIDDANCE when Marbury is finally off the team. I just hope the Knicks don't have to honor the balance of his $$$ contract.
- jatkins679, on 11/28/2008, -0/+7LBJ would be a fool to come to the Knicks, they are a total basket case. He's going to get his max cap money regardless of where he lands. And it isn't as if he needs to come to NY to become a mega superstar, he's already one even in hayseed Cleveland.
If anything, he needs/wants a championship. No matter who else they bring in, he'd be hard pressed to do that with the Knicks because of how the Knicks are run and who runs them. He might not be able to do that in Cleveland, but to their credit the Cavs have done a ton more towards surrounding LBJ with the players he needs to make a legit run at a championship than the Knicks have done.... well, this whole century so far.
And thanks for pointing out that the Knicks themselves are at least a big part of the blame in this whole situation. Marbury himself pointed out that if he refused an order to play, that's insubordination and he would be fined for that. If he was asked if he wanted to play and said no, is anyone surprised he said that? If D'Antoni asked him his feelings about playing, I would be suspicious if I were Marbury, too. What kind of ***** is that? You're asking me if I 'want' to play, when you have iced me for 11/12 games in a row, you have publicly humiliated me by not just making me DNP-CD but not even activating me.... If he was asked that, whatever response other than a head shake and walking away would have been too generous. - mikejamesss, on 11/28/2008, -1/+8If you think about it we should be blaming the Knicks on how they handled this situation. Mike D'Antoni stated in an interview that the New York Knicks was going in a different direction without their franchise player (to pursue LBJ plus one high profile player). He also said that there aren't any "minutes" for Marbury and didn't want to embarrass him with "spot minutes" and they both agreed to place Marbury on the inactive list. D'Antoni later asked Marbury IF HE WANTED TO PLAY and he said no. He was not ask to play but asked if he WANTED to play. Marbury was given an option and he said no - and thats it. If D'Antoni ordered Marbury to play because he was under contract then D'Antoni is an *****. The coach and GM basically told Marbury "your not the player we want now and in the future so go sit on the bench till your contract is up or until your traded". What if after the Knicks got their players from the trades and then placed Marbury back on the inactive list? Then we would be calling foul on the Knicks.
Lets look at why Marbury doesn't want to play for the Knicks. They had three overpaid and overweight players (Randolph, Jerome James, and Eddy Curry) that quit playing after signing huge contracts, a terrific one on one basketball player but horrible team player that is only looking out for his own shots (Crawford and hes a great fit for the Warriors), and their only good player that doesn't play for himself is a guy that comes off the bench (David Lee). Now the next two years will be nothing but throw away years to pick up two max contracts. Before you judge Marbury ask yourself this question: would you rather sit on the bench, get paid $21 million, and not risk injuring yourself before you head into free agency or would you rather play knowing your just wasting your time because the team isn't trying to win, risk getting a career ending injury, and risk lowering your value?
What really pisses me off if how the Knicks are not taking this situation more seriously. If I was LBJ I would look at these upcoming events to see how the organization works and reflect to see if I want to play for an organization who just treated their "Franchise" player like trash. If he wants to play for an incompetent team that has no other talent then he might as well stay in Cleveland. - inactive, on 11/28/2008, -0/+5The worst part is, some other team will be stupid enough to sign him, thinking they have what it takes to make him change.
- Ridikul, on 11/28/2008, -0/+5Let's not forget his SNES game either.
Shaq-Fu! - GoKings, on 11/28/2008, -0/+4The Knicks have been done with him for a long time now.
- Deltakiral, on 11/28/2008, -0/+3I hope that he get suspended without pay or he meets his maker soon, what a real pos, anyone who makes 20.8 million this year when most people are desperately trying to keep their job or find new ones should deserve a special place in hell.
- DrNovacaine, on 11/28/2008, -0/+3Shaq was in Kazaam
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -0/+3Marbury is trash. Trash that left a gift horse in Minnesota that had KG. Trash that couldn't do ***** with the suns, Trash that couldn't do ***** with the Nets, and Trash that couldn't do ***** with his dreams of finally playing for the Knicks.
- badwithcomputer, on 11/28/2008, -1/+4they 100% have to honor it and he knows it. the biggest problem here isn't that a team wouldn't want to acquire some insanely talented high priced athlete with an attitude problem (see: manny ramirez), it's that the knicks might just hold on to him until the end of the season and let him go wild.
if they do that he'll have a whole season of not playing a professional game and nobody wants to buy that. i'm guessing they'll place business over revenge though and find someone to fill their fading roster. - ATLiens, on 11/28/2008, -0/+3i'm surprised this hadn't happened sooner
- herbiehancock00, on 11/28/2008, -1/+4"They had three overpaid and overweight players (Randolph, Jerome James, and Eddy Curry) that quit playing after signing huge contracts"
Randolph was having a great year with the Knicks before he got traded to the Clippers to make room for LBJ. 20/12 = "quit playing"? What are you smoking? - otaku22, on 11/28/2008, -0/+3Mike: Thanks for explaining this, instead of just saying that x, y or z sucks.
- herbiehancock00, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2I did not say anything about him remotely close to being a star. What I was saying is that your statement that he flat out stopped playing after signing the contract is clearly not true. He's playing at the same level he's always played at, whether he's a star or not.
Btw, he had a 27/13 second game. But hey, like you said, shouldn't judge him on a few games right? - Kannebas, on 11/28/2008, -0/+2D'Antoni felt like Marbury sand bagged it in Phoenix it until he got traded to the Knicks. I saw a lot sports talk shows sayin' that D'Antoni becoming the Knicks coach hailed the end of Marbury's days as Knick.
If they pay out his contract and release him, I can't possibly imagine who would sign him. Whatever team he's been on got amazingly better after he left. - NYConcepts, on 11/28/2008, -1/+3He's been a horrible teammate for years now, but the knicks did treat him like ***** this time around. I don't like the guy, and personally I always thought he was overrated, but this time I'm gonna have to side with him.
- theonlybradever, on 11/28/2008, -0/+2he's his own agent.
- jatkins679, on 11/28/2008, -0/+2C'mon... the Knicks and Marbury deserve each other. The Knicks knew what they were getting when they traded for Marbury, their hubris and arrogance that they were somehow different and could change him got in the way. If they didn't know what they were getting with Marbury, then they didn't do their own due diligence.
For the jerk Marbury is, the Knicks don't appear to have acted much better. Wouldn't you feel pretty humiliated to be told before the season even begins that you aren't going to play... then to be sat very publicly for the first 11 games. Then, gee, when the Knicks get into a bind and need a body, they come to him and say, well, now we 'need' you? I don't any of us would be very pleased about that, I think most of us would feel pretty abused.
Either way, there is certainly a LOT more to the story. Marbury says he never refused to play, D'Antoni hasn't refused that.... but in the midst of all this, Donnie Walsh is off having Thanksgiving back in Indiana. If it isn't important enough for him to deal with it now, then it must not be all THAT important. I mean, gee, your team is down to seven dressed players who are playing but you aren't in town to help? Some GM. - haydesigner, on 11/28/2008, -0/+2Space Jam was Jordan.
And he looks a wee bit different than Shaq. - NYConcepts, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2Actually, a couple years ago, I worked at UPS and one of the managers there physically threatened me, so I stepped right in his face and cursed him out and then proceeded to quit. If anyone has worked loading trucks for UPS, KNOWS that it's possibly one of THE worst jobs you can find. So if he feels like he's being treated like *****, he has the right to do whatever he needs to do. Granted, I don't have any kids or any responsibilities like that, but him already being rich parallels his and my situation quite perfectly if you ask me.
I still don't like Marbury, but I can't help but be in complete agreement with him on this one. - TheDuffManUK, on 11/28/2008, -0/+2about time
- xjeffx, on 11/28/2008, -1/+2They're both, uh... black?
- mikejamesss, on 11/28/2008, -1/+2wait wait wait...you count 15 games into a season a great year? what are you smoking? If you want to use that logic then hey lets talk about his 7pts, 4 rebs, 2 TO, 3 for 11 performance as a clipper. Also, of course your gonna get those numbers when the only other player grabbing rebounds comes off the bench and you take 16+ shots a game.
/really?
//no..really? - mikejamesss, on 11/28/2008, -1/+2Oh and I forgot to add that Zach Randolph play no defense and slow as molasses. You should already know how much he sucks if you seen him play but I guess you determine how good a player is by his stats and not by his on court performance. Heck if you google "zach randolph sucks" the first link is to a forum dedicated to how much he sucks. Figure out how good a player is before you defend him.
- nigelmansell, on 11/28/2008, -2/+2dat dude sits on his ass and gets paid 11 million per year. somone gimme his agent's number
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -0/+1what would you do if your boss treated you poorly? you could quit. marbury can give up his contract and quit. if he wants to get paid and they ask him to scrub the toilets in msg, that's what he has to do.
- mikejamesss, on 11/28/2008, -0/+1If this trade went down then it'll only slow down Stuckey's development. Good idea though.
- callinthelaw69, on 11/28/2008, -2/+2shocking!1!
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -0/+1marbury for iverson. the salaries match, iverson was just suspended, and he sure hasn't been helping the pistons.
- jatkins679, on 11/28/2008, -2/+1Knicks fans are jackasses. They and Marbury deserve each other.
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -7/+2Go the way of Shaq, create a bad Disney Movie.
Edit: Wait, Space jam kicked ass! - TheRoonster, on 11/28/2008, -6/+2I'd rather see him in jail than Michael Vick
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -8/+2New York Knicks hate black people.
