- Bukowsky, on 02/05/2008, -5/+21Whether you like him or not... he's still a legendary coach. He has arguably done more for college basketball than any other coach ever! ....He's just a complete *****.
- inactive, on 02/05/2008, -3/+17I just don't know if Pat will get the job done, regardless, Bob Knight did more for the Texas Tech program and the city of Lubbock than any coach has ever done. It sucks to see him leave mid-season, but I can only wish the best for him, and be thankful I got to shake his hand, go to number 900 and be at his final game this past Saturday.
Goodbye Bobby Knight, Tech, college basketball, and every athlete you ever graduated will miss you. - speedy11309, on 02/06/2008, -4/+16"when my time on earth is gone, and my activities here are past, i want they bury me upside down and my critics can kiss my ass" -bobby knight
i will miss him for his amazing soundbites - AnthonyC, on 02/06/2008, -5/+15His graduation rates were very high, and he stressed discipline. He never cheated. College sports is getting away from that slowly, and it shouldn't be that way. He deserved a better send-off, but thats just not his style.
He might have been a jerk, but he did FAR more good than bad. - inactive, on 02/06/2008, -1/+9When I was a little kid, my dad took me to see IU play the russian olympic team in Indianapolis. It was back when Knight wore that plaid jacket. At one point in the game, he got pissed and took his shoe off and pounded the scoring table with it like nikita khrushchev did at the united nations. It was at the height of the cold war The crowd went wild. I'll never forget it.
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -3/+9Hey, it wasn't funny the first time
- AnthonyC, on 02/06/2008, -1/+6He's not from Texas
- Zegarek, on 02/06/2008, -0/+5I'm a freshman at Tech and I have to say that watching him at basketball games was really enjoyable. The man had a pure love of the game and for every one of his players. Regardless of what mud may be thrown at his name by people who dislike, him you can't deny the fact that he had a passion for what he did and you have to respect that. See you later Coach, hope your son can fit the bill.
- Nbonez5, on 02/05/2008, -6/+11Bob Knight can throw a chair across my court anytime
KNOWMMZAYYYINNNN!!!! - mizatt, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4And he graduates his kids, too. People always ignore that when they compare him to other coaches.
- NightOwl4, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4Another one down...first John Cheney retires from Temple University, now Bobby...two greats have now stepped down.
- mnchrist, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3As an IU grad and someone who has grown up in Indiana (although Im moving to Texas and that has zero to do with Bob Knight.) He was and still is an absolute legend here in the state, probably more so than any other individual. Even though he was normally wrongfully castigated by the media he was an outstanding coach and human being as well. He will be very much missed but he is arguably one of the best college bball coaches ever and his players loved playing for him.
- texxet, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3Vick em!
- quomen, on 02/05/2008, -4/+7Bob, the true Dark Knight.
- jbink303, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3Not dictionary.com, but:
http://m-w.com/dictionary/winningest - jbink303, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3I'm a Tech Grad and I couldn't agree with you more.
If Tech had trouble getting people to games before... oy. - TommyTSquared, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3The best (imo) was the night we rushed the court after the win vs Kansas. Someone close to me decided they wanted to jump over the table that was next to the benches when Knight grabbed him by the shirt and told him some choice words.. then said something along the lines of " now get out there already! " He was all about the fans, which kept us coming back! I'll still be there in support of Pat.
- Mark2600, on 02/06/2008, -2/+4Whether he was an ass or an angel, he was still one of the best coaches ever. I don't think anyone ever agreed with his practices, but the end result was always great.
- AnthonyC, on 02/06/2008, -2/+4I agree. His brutal honesty and lack of giving a damn what others thought was both a great asset and curse. A lot of coaches are dickwads when the cameras are turned off, Knight just didn't give a crap what people thought. Why should that hurt his legacy?
- JerodSlay, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2Im a senior at Tech and it's been fun having him around. Watching him with the game that made him the winningest coach was really cool. We'll miss him.
*throw me a chair* - xeomage, on 02/06/2008, -2/+4Bobby Knight is the Steve Jobs of college basketball.
- Jade10145, on 02/06/2008, -1/+3You got it..dugg down
- ScottooMc, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2Some may strongly disagree on the way Knight did things and I can understand that; but we can all agree that he did them for the right reasons. He knew that his players were students first and foremost. He had one of the highest player graduating percentages and had NEVER been sanctioned for recruiting violations. Through basketball he taught discipline, work ethic, and most importantly team work. We all remember his antics but lets remember what he accomplished:
902 - Wins most wins by a coach in Mens Division One college basketball history
3 NCAA Championships (76',81',87') and 1 NIT Championship (79')
Coached US mens teams to Gold medals in Olympics and Pan Am Games
11 Big Ten Championships
Many college coaches attribute their success to the tutelage of Knight including hall of fame coach Mike Krzyzewski.
You may THINK he is a jerk with a bad temper, but KNOW he is one of the greatest coaches of all time and had good intentions. - inactive, on 02/06/2008, -2/+4The last chair has been thrown
- sgtbutterscotch, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Great quote, but you mangled the punchline.
- septemberseve, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Here's to the ignorance Aggieland spreads *cheers*
- boondocksaint22, on 02/06/2008, -2/+3No i got into a&m but i did not want to go there because almost everyone up there has tradition so far up their ass that they decide to never leave College Station and there is more old people there, than there is college students. I mean you all are sheep ***** and your football program sucks balls I mean javorsky Lane the only reason he ever got first downs was because of his fat. So do not say this ***** that it was because we were not accepted there. Do your god damn research you sheep *****.
- Hawk2007, on 02/06/2008, -2/+3And Texas Tech was created to play second fiddle to the two flagship universities in Texas.
- dafragsta, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1No idea why you are being Dugg down. Wasn't this announced yesterday?
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -1/+2Maybe pat can do it. Cut him some slack. Why do you say that?
- septemberseve, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1*shrug* It's a little thing called a rivalry. Doesn't matter how bad we're about to beat you, we'll make it as humiliating as possible. And don't try and tell me how much more "classy" A&M fans are... We've all gotten our fair share of ***** in your house.
- jfg84, on 02/05/2008, -7/+8Not really breaking news is it?
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -1/+2Women's sports don't compair to men's
- Hawk2007, on 02/06/2008, -4/+5I feel like an ass for saying this, but the vast majority of people who go to tceh (http://www.aggies9496.com/Images/ClasslessClowns/T ... are students who couldn't get into A&M or Texas. Granted, there are always going to be a few hardcore raiders with huge family ties, but the majority of the population are A&M/Texas rejects.
- jf518, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1not to diminish what Bobby Knight has done because he is truly one of the greatest coaches ever, but this story is incorrect. He is not the Division 1 wins leader, Pat Summit from UT Lady Vols is the leader in wins by quite a bit.
- zunkus, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1His practices were fine, I played for a coach with a similar style and it was great.
- ScottooMc, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1The NCAA does not lump the records for men and women together. NOT INACURATE.
- genconkeeper, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Yea and they proablitity make him coach the Infernal basketball team too.
"Come Hilter your passing like a girl" - IUCGC, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1That's incredible. Wish I had been old enough to understand the significance.
- thatonedood, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Yep, Tech blows A&M out of the water....in football and basketball, pull the thumb out of your ass...GAG' EM
- TommyTSquared, on 02/06/2008, -1/+2You don't seem to grasp this... A&M thinks UT is their rival when they were created as a subdivision of UT. So you're hating a school that you were created AS A PART OF. Pull yourself out of that sheep, stop cooking your girlfriend on the grill ( ok that was a bad one ), pick yourself up from Tech kicking your ass in football and basketball and well... you're having it bad enough already :(
- zunkus, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1Yes, yes he should.
- Midtowner, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1He's a great coach. I'm glad to see him out of the Big XII. Within a few years, I'm sure he ends up somewhere else.
- zunkus, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1That's why it says most wins in MENS D1
- jbink303, on 02/06/2008, -1/+2Homophones! Teehee.
- dafragsta, on 02/06/2008, -1/+1"You can't separate talent/genius from character."
Wow, you should really work for Fox News. Just because you say something doesn't mean it's gospel. This is absolutely a bunch of horse *****. Most talented/genius people are COMPLETE ***** ***** which stems from the fact that they are perfectionists and therefore not much fun to be around. Most exceptionally driven people have either enlightened themselves to a new kind of awareness or they had a rough or extremely disciplined childhood and feel like they have something to prove. - sizzzzlerz, on 02/06/2008, -2/+2Who is now the number one chair thrower, player choker, f-bomb thrower in the NCAA? Bobby leaves quite an impressive record in these areas.
- IUCGC, on 02/06/2008, -2/+2Come back to IU! I'm a Hoosier, and it was an outrage that they fired him in the first place. Give Sampson the boot and bring The General back!
- suprememilo, on 02/06/2008, -1/+1I'm mad he retired so early in the season because I was looking forward to seeing him coach when Tech comes here. (I got to Texas A&M)
