- imahussey, on 04/01/2008, -0/+8I'd like to make an observation about MLB.TV
It really got me fired up yesterday when I wanted to watch my team play and couldn't because as usual MLB and their crappy website were "experiencing problems"" Then I wanted to call MLB to let them know that I just spent $120 for their premium service that doesn't work and couldn't get through after an hour on hold. Thanks MLB, lets hope you have your S*&T together today! - mbonzo531, on 04/01/2008, -0/+7I used to read FOX Sports a lot because they're not as North East biased as ESPN but I just can't stand the way Ken Rosenthal writes. Its all so very short and choppy. Not a bad summary if you can read it though.
- palanthos, on 04/01/2008, -0/+4Hey, at least you didn't lose.
- kdamp, on 04/01/2008, -0/+4MLB.tv has the worst customer service I'd ever encountered. After I bought it last year, the games I wanted to watch were wrongly blocked, and I spent over 6 hours total on hold trying to get through to them. By the time I finally got someone, I was asking for a refund.
- johnny222, on 04/01/2008, -1/+5Haha, Cincinnati. Good one.
- Hetman, on 04/01/2008, -0/+4Im a cubs fan so opening day however awesome it is, is kind of dissapointing when Wood gives up 3 runs. But the 3 run homer by Fukadome was awesome. And then it was ***** again when Theriot, Lee, and Soriano did not get any runs in the 10th. O well 161 more games to go.
- harrisbradley, on 04/01/2008, -0/+3Biggest downer of the day is the San Francisco Giants losing 5-0 to the Dodgers. Way to start your 50th season! Nobody thought anything could be worse than last season, and the Giants outdid themselves again. At least we don't have to deal with the traffic this year.
- kdamp, on 04/01/2008, -0/+3Man, I feel bad for you. The Giants are going to be terrible this year. The organization is running in circles with its head up its ass, and it doesn't look like things will get better any time soon.
I hope the weather is good and the beer is cold. The team is going to blow. - TomK88, on 04/01/2008, -0/+3It's 7:05!
- dan222555, on 04/02/2008, -0/+2"Ok, I'm half-kidding. The Yanks aren't as bad as they have been in the past several years with filling their roster with nothing but a bunch of over-the-hill has-beens."
You're not "half-kidding" you're just wholly wrong. This year the Yankees have a very young team compared to teams past. They didn't splurge for any overpriced veterans this offseason and for once they're building up players from within the organization. Believe me, nobody liked it less than me those years when they used to fill up the roster with washed up veterans, but that wasn't going to stop me from rooting for the team. - 3tcp, on 04/02/2008, -0/+2Haha, F U Cubbies!!1 I see you met Tony Gwynn's son. It will be a good rivalry this season, I just hope my Brewers aren't hurt too badly this season by losing Cordero.
- d3dm, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2I'm not a baseball fan and I've tried to ask myself "why not?" The things that come to mind are:
* The game just seems to move too slowly to keep my interest. The scoring comes slow and low.
* The majority of the time the players are standing around waiting for the batter to get ready, or the pitcher to decide what pitch he's going to throw.
* There isn't a "baseball day" for watching the games with your buddies like there is with NFL football on Sunday.
* The whole steroids thing.
Of those reasons, I think the low/infrequent scoring kills it for me (as it does with soccer). If they changed the game so that runners left on base after an inning were put back in the same base position at the start of the next inning, that would make it more interesting (at least to me).
Am I alone in that I just don't get excited about Major League Baseball? - BinaryDelt, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2I'm going MLB Extra Innings this year and then buying MLB.com's gameday audio. F**k MLB.tv. 2 years with that crap. Their picture is nowhere near as good as they claim, customer service is a joke, and Extra innings is $40 more.
- johnny222, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2Coco Crisp.
- Ajajadude, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2The only reason there's any sort of hope at the beginning of the season for the Reds is that they play in the NL.
- BinaryDelt, on 04/01/2008, -1/+3I live in Dayton and I'm sick of you Reds fans claiming opening day is yours. I don't care if you were the first team in the MLB or whatever. I don't care that the Bengals went 10-6 one year so I should ***** my pants over them. Stop being elitists when you have nothing elite about you.
- cadmiumpaint, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2The baseball season really doesn't begin until August. Thats when the real teams step forward and go the distance. If you don't believe me ask last season's Mets.
Yankees, Tigers do well for most of the season. Their pitching becomes a problem in the fall. Red Sox win it all again. - capainter, on 04/02/2008, -0/+1"Jeff Conine isn't exactly retired. No, he's training for the 140.6 miles of the Ford Ironman World Championship — 112 biking, 2.4 swimming and 26.2 running. The event will take place Oct. 11 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
According to a press release announcing Conine's plans, his 3,081 career total bases amounted to 277,290 feet worth of running. The Ironman journey consists of 742,368 feet — more than three times his major-league output.
Conine, who turns 42 on June 27, fell 18 hits short of 2,000 in his 17-year career."
Also a world class racquetball player. Dude is an animal. - 3tcp, on 04/02/2008, -0/+1Baseball is a 'go to the bar and play darts while watching' game. The couch is for football season.
- johnny222, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1No kidding. The Giants are the new Rays.
- kenij, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1Wait... I'm not the only M's fan on Digg...?
- Ajajadude, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1The only thing that would've made that better is if the Dodgers had put Barry's head on a stick out in centerfield. I think I would've braved the LA traffic (and Dodger stadium parking) for that.
- kenij, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1That name cracks me up every time I read it.
- mbonzo531, on 04/01/2008, -1/+2Not only that... I am a yankees fan and I am receiving YES through Verizon FiOS which I have to pay for. Part of the money that goes to paying my cable bill goes to the YES station (An all exclusive network for Yankees and Nets). All spring training games last year were available on YES, this year the majority could only be watched through MLB.tv. So to watch all the games now, I have to buy both MLB.tv and YES! Its cheaper to just go to the game...
- Ajajadude, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1I've never had a problem with their audio service (other than something wrong on my end). I much prefer it to watching the games...sometimes.
- cadmiumpaint, on 04/02/2008, -0/+1yeah but those guys have big game experience. They know how to go the distance as a team. No one else can make that claim right now.
- Ajajadude, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1It's worse to hear him talk. It's not so bad during the regular season when you don't HAVE to watch Fox, but during the postseason when Fox seems to pick up the majority of the games, it's unbearable. Especially with Joe Buck.
- johnny222, on 04/02/2008, -0/+1...Isn't that how I spelled it?
- inactive, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1If Cubs fans were less puerile and obnoxious, the baseball gods might be more inclined to bless the team's endeavors.Go Brewers, go White Sox!
- Ajajadude, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1I don't see a problem with the scoring being "low". Yeah, it doesn't usually happen every 5 seconds (like in basketball...of course, you also have fouls every 2 seconds that stop the game). But, that's baseball. It's much more exciting going to games than watching it on tv. And if you want to have a baseball day with your buddies, go to a game. There's nothing like getting drunk at a baseball game: there's plenty of time to do it.
And you're delusional (and just trying too hard to come up with excuses to not like baseball) if you think baseball is the only sport with a steroid problem. Football has the same problem, just not widely talked about, if not worse. And nobody cares about basketball. - BinaryDelt, on 04/01/2008, -0/+11948-2008: 60 years of frustration ends
I agree with Peter Gammons and Buster Olney: Look for the Indians to finally win it all in 2008. - fissionignition, on 04/01/2008, -2/+2How is Angel Pagan not the most remarkable name ever...?
Just sayin', is all... - mlvassallo, on 04/01/2008, -2/+2Go M's!
- spaceymacey, on 04/04/2008, -0/+0It was disappointing to have my team have their opening day in Japan. They should be in their home country.
- ace429k, on 04/01/2008, -1/+1A lot of people expected the Tigers to crush the Royals, and frankly they should have. but with some 150 more games, one loss isnt too bad. Whats going to hurt is if the Tigers dont bound back and get ready to take on some of the tougher teams like the Red Socks, Yankees, and the Indians. 3 tough teams. Mag's FTW.

- Ajajadude, on 04/02/2008, -1/+1Red Sox pitching is somewhat questionable for the early part of the season. They'll be relying heavily on young'uns like Lester and Bucholz and old guys like Wakefield.
- ultmast, on 04/02/2008, -0/+0"Up's" and "Down's"? The Up's and Down's what?
- MrDee23, on 04/02/2008, -0/+0I was jumping up and down when Kosuke Fukudome hit his first major league home run, which was a three run game tying homerun in the bottom of the ninth off the Brewers Gagne. Then the Cubs relief blew the game in the 10th. Another day in the life of a Cubs fan
- TomK88, on 04/01/2008, -2/+2Down was definitely my Blue Birds having their game rained out. :(
- inactive, on 04/02/2008, -2/+1Typical Cubs fan, can't even spell their own players name right.
Its F-U-K-U-D-O-M-E - Ajajadude, on 04/01/2008, -2/+1Why? So you can watch a bunch of washed-out players get your hopes up until the end of the season when their aging bodies have given out?
Ok, I'm half-kidding. The Yanks aren't as bad as they have been in the past several years with filling their roster with nothing but a bunch of over-the-hill has-beens. - LADodgers, on 04/01/2008, -4/+2typical East-Coast bias.
- rabidg00se, on 04/01/2008, -4/+2Hear, hear.
- palanthos, on 04/01/2008, -7/+4Two things about Opening Day:
1. Opening day should NEVER, EVER happen in Japan again. EVER.
2. Opening day belongs to Cincinnati. Period. - inactive, on 04/01/2008, -4/+1April Fools!
- johnny222, on 04/01/2008, -5/+1I'm a Cubs fan, so Opening Day (despite being awesome) was kind of disappointing, because Wood gave up three runs. But the three-run homer by Fukudome was awesome. Then it sucked when Theriot, Lee, and Soriano didn't manage to score in the 10th inning. Oh well, there are still 161 games before the season is over.
/Fixed - dan222555, on 04/01/2008, -7/+2As far as I'm concerned the baseball season doesn't start until 7:15 PM tonight in the Bronx.
