- freezerburn666, on 11/25/2008, -0/+35allo i am Rinku i will be pleased to pitch for you today, what type of pitch would you like?
- jmpeagle, on 11/25/2008, -3/+30DEY TOOK ER JERRRRRRBS
- clkou, on 11/25/2008, -7/+34Heh, good luck with THAT. Now we're outsourcing our pitching ;)
- repmekevets, on 11/25/2008, -2/+21ok i'm from pittsburgh, and at one time or another i've wondered, "could the pirates be any more embarrassing?" now i know the answer.
- Jrlac08, on 11/25/2008, -3/+20Anyone smell a terrible terrible Disney movie?
- stpirate, on 11/25/2008, -1/+16Neither had pitched before this year?
Sounds like they won't make it past the minors. - PatrickFlorida, on 11/25/2008, -0/+15The Cleveland Indians said no?
- gnomead, on 11/25/2008, -0/+14This is so bizarre. There's no baseball in India at all. It's all about cricket here.
- roedwards86, on 11/25/2008, -4/+18I'm sure they were bowlers...
- inactive, on 11/25/2008, -4/+16Bowling is a little different than pitching :-/
- SnapETom, on 11/25/2008, -1/+12Patel hit 90 mph, Singh hit 84. No mention of any movement, which pitchers regularly spend their entire high school and college years developing.
If Patel can get some movement, 90 might be good enough to get him a job as a #5 starter. Singh's going to get eaten alive. - winmywii, on 11/25/2008, -1/+11Go Steelers and Penguins?
- keplerjd, on 11/25/2008, -3/+13Put it in the books; they will never pitch in the major leagues.
- hierophantus, on 11/25/2008, -1/+10Hilarious. In the saddest possible way. Oh, Pirates, just hang it up already.
- wendelgee2, on 11/25/2008, -0/+9So, you're an *****.
How's that working out for you? - gnomead, on 11/25/2008, -0/+8Actually if you'd read the story you'd know that they were javelin throwers.
- Ymeg, on 11/25/2008, -1/+9As far as I'm concerned, they could sign a blind person and still improve.
- flashingcurser, on 11/25/2008, -0/+7Say again about former colonies. I vaguely recall one who's national pastime is baseball.
- gnomead, on 11/25/2008, -3/+10Actually, Indian cricketers are as ridiculously overpaid as any athlete in the world. And, fyi, $12,000 is about Rs. 600,000. So you were off by about 2 trillion 999 billion 999 million 400 thousand rupees.
- alclone, on 11/25/2008, -0/+7Oh man, now my city is going to become the laughing-stock for the next 10 years.
At least my house worth is going up. - inactive, on 11/25/2008, -1/+8I smell curry
- Tegurit34, on 11/25/2008, -0/+6That's it. Everyone back in the pile.
- Seanmu13, on 11/25/2008, -3/+9Consider the Pirates are essentially a minor league team, these guys have a great shot making it to the majors.
- EnsErmac, on 11/25/2008, -0/+6Nah, if they haven't made Pittsburgh the laughing stock by now, we are safe. 16 years of losing in a row will do that, signing a couple of Indian pitchers who don't know a thing about baseball just adds to that total.
- inactive, on 11/25/2008, -0/+5Not *****. This is about raw talent... Your friend obviously did not have it. I think it's awesome when scouts have the balls to go and find it in unlikely places. Look at Dirk Nowitzki... He didn't pick up a basketball until he was 14 years old...1 year later at 15 a scout singled him out because of his raw athleticism and height. Now he's one of the top players in the NBA...
- rockon4life45, on 11/25/2008, -1/+6Sounds interesting to me. This could be crazy.
- wendelgee2, on 11/25/2008, -3/+8What the hell is wrong with you?
- staplemaniac, on 11/25/2008, -0/+5Or threw javelins.
Wait, where did I read that? - OasisR123, on 11/25/2008, -1/+6They don't even have baseball (just like in UK and any other former colony).
please tell them I was really good at MLB2K5, and they can talk to Scott Boras, my agent.
P.S. Detroit Lions organization: I am kind of lame at Madden, but that should be enough to make the cut in your roster. - jkendal4, on 11/25/2008, -1/+5you know your desperate when...
- tonytheshoes, on 11/25/2008, -1/+5This is probably less about actually starting these two guys, and more about trying to set up recruiting pools anywhere that people haven't heard about how bad the Buccos actually are :(
- altf4exits, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4Should have drafted some Somali's
- noghead, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4true, it is different, but if you are responding to roedwards86, he is talking about cricket...not bowling (with pins).
Just clarifying. - zzzpoohzzz, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3dammit... wtf is wrong with this organization.... they used to be dominant, now they are so ***** terrible it pisses me off.
i would love to be able to root for them... but they havent had a winning season since 1992... they havent had a winning season since i was 8... and now my favorite tagline ive ever read about the pirates:
pittsburgh pirates... rebuilding since 1992
at least we have the steelers and penguins - Anubis2051, on 11/26/2008, -0/+3how do you figure that? baseball was invented in hoboken, nj well after the revolution. how exactly does that make it a british game?
- Kazbaeden, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3The pirates couldn't get any worse... why not?
- inactive, on 11/25/2008, -5/+8Thank you, Come again!
- johnbonham1, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3Go Buccos!!! we're obviously getting desperate...
- meruru, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3Probably, but the Pirates are awful, what do they have to lose? If nothing else it will probably sell a few more tickets for their minor league teams.
- jonstafari, on 11/25/2008, -1/+4funny thing is, the Pirates will still SUCK
- supermanly, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3Proud Pittsburgh resident and Indian! I've accepted the fact that the Pirates suck so I'm all for crazy ass attempts to fail less.
The Pirates are the definition of epic fail; they haven't had a winning season since I've been alive (I'm 15 for the record) - binarysemaphore, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2Ya..I want a pitch that can do paper work for my foreclosed home.
- binarysemaphore, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2I guess there are more homes for sale in Pittsburgh than 7/11
- johnbonham1, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2As someone who knows the Pirates lack of athletic ability firsthand, I can safely say they might. Gotta love the Bucs!
- nobleexperiment, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2Just Don't encourage them to take LSD while pitching.
signed,
San Diego Padres fans who can't forget Doc Ellis =( - cuoops, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2pagal
- hakluytbean, on 11/26/2008, -1/+3This began with a TV show. Obviously there's no need for baseball teams to get players from India, but there is a clear incentive to get baseball on Indian TV and in front of a one billion audience. So presumably that's the aim. Plus I think they're Muslim, even more diversity.
Here's their blog (named after the show): http://www.themilliondollararm.com/blog/ - gfxlonghorn, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2I have played soccer all my life, but my height and build were no good.I workout a lot now(pic in profile), and I am in really good shape, but even then what takes me 2 years to get, takes any other person 6 months. And there aren't any elite athletes on the national or even world stage from India that don't play cricket( I don't consider baseball or cricket elite sports anyways). And really, I have only seen like 5 Indian guys in person in my life that were in better shape than me, which is sad. We probably have the worst ratio athletes:population anywhere.
- supermanly, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2Dude speak for yourself. I play hockey and tennis, and despite my lack of build, I manage to do well. Of course I did tear my cartilage so I can't say I'm built sturdy either.
That's the excuse I hear from many Indians; some forget how there's a decent amount of good Indian tennis players. - madcaps1980, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2"The Pirates are committed to creatively adding talent to our organization"
I'm not a Pirates fan but as far as I know they usually do the opposite of this. -
