- trer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+35I love how Sosa, for some reason, cannot speak english to answer the congressional panel when they questioned him about steroids.. But he is able to answer questions in english from reporters asking about his 600th homerun.
- SpectralSounds, on 10/11/2007, -3/+29I wonder if his bat was corked. Again.
- ngmcs8203, on 10/11/2007, -5/+23EAMUS1CATULI is the submitter of the story.
Sammy Sosa is a disgrace to baseball. If you're going to cheat do it, but don't get caught on national television with a corked bat. What an idiot. We've only got to put up with his skip-n-hops for a couple more years at best. - Ighuc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Buried for cheating.
- Hosalabad, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14They mean 600* don't they?
- asskicker32, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13You know what I dont get, These guys are expected to be the BEST at their game. So they take some supplements that give them more strength, better focus, and other benefits and then people are saying they are cheating. We dont know how many MLB players were using Steroids during the big roid era, but I can tell quite a few were. Brady Anderson went from 12-15 homeruns to 50 overnight. Leadoff hitters started hitting 30+ homeruns. The Juiced baseballs... Pitchers now going 8+ innings and then blowing out their shoulders or elbows. I mean, its no suprise. These guys get stronger with the use of supplements and steroids, because they are expected to compete at high levels. During the mid 90s, you had to either use or get passed by.
Look at Griffey Jr. He was a legitimate 50 HR bat, but couldnt keep up with Sosa, Bonds, McGwire et al. Griffey refused to use and the game passed him by. He was struggling to get 30 HR while these guys are doubling that number. He battled injuries, just like the old players did and his team is losing, while McGwire, Bonds and others are making it to the WS. These guys are getting MVPs and Griffey is barely in the running for teh all star game.
Anyway, I dont believe that what these guys are doing is wrong. Its selfish, short term thinking but I dont think its wrong. I think what is wrong is that MLB and the owners chastise and condemn steroid users while paying them fortunes on teh backend for their enhanced performance on the field. If they want to disallow steroids, they should. But they shouldnt talk bad about players who have used it when its quite obvious to anyone that the owners were aware of what was going on the whole time. The hypocrisy is teh real crime here and the the juicers are the ones who have to live with it... - kirkness, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Sammy Sosa hits number 600... and no one cared.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8In other news... steroids are GOOD FOR YOU!!!!1
- wordsthatendini, on 10/11/2007, -6/+13CHECK THE BAT!!! CHECK THE BAT!!
- StillGaming, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6What, another ice dagger jammed into the back of the MLB, slowly killing it off even more?
Once Bonds hits 756, Major League Baseball is dead. - buster99, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Not the point. Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays did it without steroids. They were much better players than Sosa - he doesn't deserve to be compared to them.
- operand, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Sammy was a 30 home run player then all of a sudden, he drills 66 home runs in the 10th year of his career. Sosa was juiced.
- operand, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10@mrfreeziexp: The person that submitted the story.
- unusualbob, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8I'd like to thank my team, my cat, my bat, and my trusty needle for always being there for me. Oh and my coach for providing me with my medicinal chemical needs.
- Eldorian, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Has anyone else ever remember Sosa the skinny little guy when he played for the WhiteSox? And then all the sudden he becomes this big buff guy in 98?
Because that had absolutely nothing to do with steroids... - bmalnad, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Exactly. The Babe did it on hot dogs and beer.
- texnofobix, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7The title should say "Steroids hits number 600"
- ConsultantJR, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4not only that, but he was the only player there with his lawyer by his side! i guess palmiero could have used one, too, huh?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Corked bat.
Steroids.
Hmm, congrats? - tellyousomeday, on 10/11/2007, -6/+9I might seem dumb for saying this but average people like you and me still can't whack 600 bombs with all the steroids in the world...
- socomoddjob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Him, Big Mac and Palmiero can go play golf every HOF induction weekend, they will never be there.
- asskicker32, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Good point. The placebo effect does work wonders... But still Its a stupid risk.
Now trying to slide in an aluminum or composite bat with a faux wood grain would be cheating worthy of the annals of the hall. - quacker912, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7Roids.
- redslash, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6About time.
- hmmmok, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Cubs fans? They drove him outta Chicago! Eh, they deserve each other...

...and sporting records. - hiphoc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2What gets me is how Mark McG... Was running around hugging the Maris family when he broke the record. Looking them in the eye knowing he was cheating. These guys are complete lying scumbags. Just as he is about to get his last homerun, I hope Barry Bonds knees explode as if he has testicles for kneecaps ala South Park.
Mickey Mantle hit some of the longest homeruns in baseball history and this guy weighed less that 200 lbs. Mantle came close to hitting one out of Yankee stadium. I have no respect for these current players. Well maybe A-Rod, yes he is a bit of an ass, but he has a normal size head. And he has been putting up numbers since he came out of high school. Not towards the end of his career. He will smash the HR record. - Ngai, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I don't keep up with baseball but I really didn't know that...
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Corked_bat - ronaldinho, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1only if you want a shrunken penis
- neiljcrump, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Congratulations Sammy!!!!! I am glad to see you make a come back, and still play well, and get to the 600 milestone.. every comment on here is negative towards you, and i think if you did anything illegal, it's not any worse than any of the other players. McGwire, Bonds, I think you have been great for the game. I really enjoyed watching you in that '98 MVP season, hitting over 20 homers in June!! I am a cubs fan, and i would love watching you come to the plate, especially in that 4 season span with all of the homers!!! congrats!!! Neil
- in2deep, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Does this even matter to anyone..the guy had been caught only for bats being corked and he's on drugs...idiot!!
- malicexcx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3This doesnt mean ***** to me, he was caught using a corked bat!
- glsh93, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3He's a steroid muncher! How can you take anything he does seriously? All his homers should be discredited and he should be expelled from the league, he's a blight on the face of baseball. Baseball is America's sport and if you have people like Sammy Sosa, it teaches little kids the wrong kinds of lessons not mention discredits baseballs real achievers, people that really hit the ball with no help.
- MrBilly, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3"It's soooo ReeeALLL!!!!"
- mth785, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0There have always been cheaters in baseball, there always will.
- ronaldinho, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2It's really not just the steroids too. Juiced balls and smaller ballparks have something to do with the homerun explosion also. Chicks dig the homeruns, so to speak. Asskicked is right: It's the MLB's fault for not doing anything about it until it's too late, with Bonds about to shatter their most precious homerun record. They rode that steroid-fueled homerun wave to an all-time popularity, and obviously crashed and burned.
Sosa will stand out to me more as the guy with the corked bat more than the guy taking the steroids. Maybe the corked bat could actually get him into the HOF, since relatively he seems less involved with steroids than Bonds and McGwire. - deamon20, on 10/11/2007, -5/+5Sammy Sosa is the biggest cheater of all time. Not only did he take steroids, he used a corked bat while he was on steroids.. how much more can you cheat? The guy is a joke and his 600HRs mean absolutely zilch in my mind.
- framitz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Records set by cheaters are meaningless.
- buster99, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2@asskicker
You may be right about the effectiveness of a corked bat, but thinking it gave him an edge might have made him more confident at the plate. That could have made a difference. - asskicker32, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I mean, at teh end of the day, its just a footnote to a game that grown men are playing... Is it even really that important?
- jd33, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Go Sammy. I still love you.
- subxero37, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3What exactly does "go I hat to say it" mean?
- dmcbride6, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3who the hell cares? the guys a hack anyhow...
- hmmmok, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1That's why there was just a World Baseball Classic.
- jasonvp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0As a baseball fan, I agree that Sammy Sosa is a cheater. A corked bat is a blatant attempt at cheating the game. Every player that steps on the field knows what bat he is going to use in his quiver..Just own up to it and move on
- catalysis, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I never knew they used super balls in bats and that the term "super bowl" in football was inspired by super balls. Damn, its amazing what you learn from wikipedia.
- triple6vampyre, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Check his bat for cork an give him a blood test.
- kamikaze87, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0*Is* it real or is it Memorex?
- drperez, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0What language do you mean? I bet you he can speak is native language just fine. As for caring what millionaires do, I bet you care about plenty. Like the crack heads in the NFL that can't stay out of trouble off the field.
