- worlin, on 04/08/2008, -10/+308What is that? Fark getting the credit for what Digg did. Adam Rubin I and all of Digg now hate you.
- elosorusso, on 04/08/2008, -2/+223The ballot was confusing, I think I accidentally voted for Pat Buchanan.
- loringalta, on 04/08/2008, -5/+204democracy is dead.
- caulkrocket, on 04/08/2008, -1/+144On the bright side, the song will at least be played in the runoff. Wouldn't it be great if the Mets fans voted to rickroll themselves for the season?
- Dr00pieS, on 04/08/2008, -2/+131Mets fear Astley.
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -2/+90Unfortunately someone saw it on Fark, and in the comments stated they had just submitted it to Digg. But that's not important -- it was truly beautiful: a band of websites, pushing differences aside and coming together to pull a great joke on a joke of a team. Good effort, Diggers, Farkers, and everyone else (too many to list!)
- sofaKing812, on 04/08/2008, -0/+69Rick would never let me down like this.
- kamel, on 04/08/2008, -3/+66This is BS. Any marketing team to leave the choices up to the internet at large (IAL) is asking for something like this to happen. If they wanted something more controlled then they should have done something just at Shea (which is what they're doing now).
They should have to live with what they came up with. - iamkevski, on 04/08/2008, -0/+48Wait... It's already playing in Shea Stadium...
http://digg.com/comedy/The_New_York_Mets_Have_Been ... - RDRP, on 04/08/2008, -0/+48They should pretend that they are going to play the song everyone at Shea Stadium voted for (presumably not Rick Astley) and then rick roll themselves every game.
- gsadamb, on 04/08/2008, -0/+43I demand for the Supreme Court to stop this charade and rule that Astley won the vote!
- bigbadgoat, on 04/08/2008, -1/+42They're strangers to love.
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -0/+345 million votes? Damn. Good work.
- mctwist16, on 04/08/2008, -0/+30i'd rather be rickrolled than listen to any of the other songs listed in the article.
- cowabunga15, on 04/08/2008, -0/+29New York Mets manage to ruin something else, why am I not surprised?
- sircomix, on 04/08/2008, -0/+25"Sweet Caroline" is the Red Sox tune, dudes. Rick Roll, come ON!
We should all go to the Rick Astley game, just to heavily stack the crowd reaction as well. - Miamisun, on 04/08/2008, -2/+24I call *****! You have a fixed contest here. We give you the power to write in but if that wins we will say I think we know our fans better than you and choose the song we want anyways. The Mets organization was a joke, is a joke, and will always be a joke. Good riddance from that smells like a toilet stadium.
- vofuse, on 04/08/2008, -0/+21I'm actually surprised they didn't outright disqualify the song.
- RyeBrye, on 04/08/2008, -0/+21"Rather than commit to that as the new eighth-inning tune since it probably doesn’t reflect the fan base’s wishes, the Mets will play the top six selections once apiece during the first six games of their home stand. The one that draws the largest crowd response will stick."
How do you measure "crowd response" to a song at a baseball game? it's impossible to measure objectively, and therefore this is just another way of saying "Whichever song we damn well feel like picking" will be chosen - FreddieD, on 04/08/2008, -0/+20The Mets told me a lie and deserted me.
- lava, on 04/08/2008, -2/+19man, that's dumb. If they actually made it Never Gonna Give You Up, I would probably travel to NY to watch a Mets game. And I've never been to a baseball game in my life.
- notque, on 04/08/2008, -2/+18I got buried, but I'm telling you the truth.
It was played!
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pNspCoZrFuM - davidrools, on 04/08/2008, -0/+16They should know better than to piss off the internet. Remember what happened to that chick who bashed Mass Effect and got her Amazon book reviews spammed to hell?
- ostracize, on 04/08/2008, -0/+12Skipping over essential is a fun activity
- dondara, on 04/08/2008, -1/+11I was there, fondling your dangling chad
- vofuse, on 04/08/2008, -0/+10"The other songs that made the cut, in descending order: Livin’ on a Prayer, Bon Jovi; I’m a Believer, The Monkees; Movin’ Out, Billy Joel; Sweet Caroline, Neil Diamond; and Build Me Up Buttercup, The Foundations."
Just for the other finalists alone, Astley should win. - gcman94, on 04/08/2008, -0/+10I'm a met fan and voted to rickroll myself!!!!!!!
Never gonna give you up, let you down, dundundundundunda - notque, on 04/08/2008, -0/+9Exactly, success has occurred.
- Teej, on 04/08/2008, -1/+9Actually, we are.
- poploserdigg, on 04/08/2008, -4/+12you need a hobby.
- uncertainty, on 04/08/2008, -0/+8As a lifelong Mets fan, I can safely say that I would not mind replacing the eighth inning song to Rick Astley. That said, it was a pretty stupid move to put the vote for a song on the internet.
Is it a bitch move? Kinda. Would it be hilarious? Definitely. But it's the Mets' last season in Shea and they can do what they want.
And for anyone that's interested, today was the home opener at Shea and they actually DID play all of "Never Gonna Give You Up" during the eighth inning. - sackmana, on 04/08/2008, -0/+7The mets gave him up. They let him down. They turned around and deserted him.
- RnFDoctorZ, on 04/08/2008, -1/+8Even if it doesn't stick around, at least it got played on Opening Day... We've made our mark in baseball history.
- RyeBrye, on 04/08/2008, -0/+7So now we have to all buy tickets to 6 games and cheer really loudly when the song comes on so that they will be rickrolled for the remaining 70+ home games? Where do I sign up?
- Mattso, on 04/08/2008, -0/+7Come on Mets! You know the rules... and so do I! Now follow em.
- Arcae, on 04/08/2008, -0/+7I hate the Mets even more now.
- davidlow, on 04/08/2008, -0/+7They know the rules and so do we.
- dafragsta, on 04/08/2008, -0/+7He would never give them up. I don't understand.
- spmyke, on 04/08/2008, -0/+6Curses! Foiled again.
- notque, on 04/08/2008, -1/+7They played it!
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -3/+9Ya, its just like their inability to win a World Series in a hundred years...oops wait.
- dyoel182, on 04/08/2008, -0/+6That would make me even happier actually.
- abshack, on 04/08/2008, -0/+6We're no strangers to love, you and I. But the Mets, they're totally lost.
- Aeuta, on 04/08/2008, -0/+6Yes if you live in the area please go! Maybe someone should organize something...
It is not that bad actaully we still get to rick-roll one game... - DudeAsInCool, on 04/08/2008, -0/+6The Mets will learn - you don't offend The Internet and get away with it.
- HookmasterCH47, on 04/08/2008, -0/+6Forget the 8th inning. The rickroll should play randomly in between innings throughout the game. In honor of the spontaneity of a truly well executed rickroll...
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -0/+5Buried for mits. Must have a left brain, right brain communication problem. Middle finger on the LEFT hand hits E.
- Austin7687, on 04/08/2008, -0/+5Yeah, RickRolling could replace the wave!
- sienar, on 04/08/2008, -0/+5We would've gotten away with it too, if it weren't for those meddling mets!
- poploserdigg, on 04/08/2008, -0/+5Fark = (1) Digg's older brother who stopped being funny about 5 years ago, and (2) Digg in a few months
