- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -4/+19I like the fact that teams are moving away from the domes. baseball was supposed to be played under open skies even though it gets cold in October. GO YANKS!
http://www.tnga.com - Landthatilove, on 03/18/2009, -7/+20Baseball. The sport who's only goal is to make it back home, and the rest of your teams goal is to help you get there. I love baseball! (But can't stand the Yankees!)
- winter360, on 03/19/2009, -1/+9hey Canada, curling is not a real sport
- jec68, on 03/19/2009, -2/+9What a disgusting way to squander public funds.
- plainOldFool, on 03/19/2009, -0/+6Fenway and Wrigley are cathedrals of baseball that should never be demolished. Sadly, I felt the same way about Yankee Stadium, and I'm a Met fan. I loved Shea but it was a *****. I am really looking forward to CitiField.
- supercandy, on 03/18/2009, -3/+9was by the new CITI field the other day, nice looking...
- diggproof, on 03/19/2009, -2/+7What will they use the stadiums for in October?
- Exiler86, on 03/19/2009, -1/+5Salary caps don't work terribly well, you just end up with a disproportionate amount of money spent on a couple stars while the rest of the team "suffers".
Rules that force young players with restricted free agency, like in the NHL, work better IMO (players aren't unrestricted until age 27). Teams can actually recruit / draft talent without having to worry that their time and money will be wasted after they sell out to a bigger team a year later when they do well. Granted in the end, this just post-pones when they lose the talent. - Dr3w, on 03/19/2009, -0/+4You really think they'd do away with Fenway? That's just as bad as if the Cubs were to move from Wrigley. I always thought they'd be there forever.
- Anubis2051, on 03/19/2009, -0/+3Yeah, the sox looked to rebuild about ten years ago. The rumor floating around is that fenway has about another 6 years left in it (the 100th, and then the years for construction) before it's replaced. They're gonna catch hell for it, but no matter how much the ownership does, theres only somuch they can squeeze out of that tiny rat infested ballpark. Wrigley might last a little longer, but fenway's time is soon. If you guys are into this kind of thing check out baseball-fever.com, they've got a great ballparks forum section. A lot of the people there really know their stuff.
- Dr3w, on 03/19/2009, -0/+3At least the guy lives up to his name
- diggproof, on 03/19/2009, -2/+5The funny thing is the Yankees haven't won a championship this decade and the Marlins have (against the Yankees) which is why Baseball is still pure and money doesn't equal championships. It helps though...
- Anubis2051, on 03/19/2009, -0/+3Really? you really think it's the original? I'm a yankee fan too, but the original fenway burned in the 30s, and before that the green monster didn't even exist. The fenway we know today is nothing like it was in 1912.
- serif69, on 03/19/2009, -0/+3I'm a Yankee fan, and I never want to see the Sox move from Fenway. I could forgo Yankee Stadium as we knew it, since it was hardly the place it was before the 70s refresh. Fenway, OTOH, is all original, and should stay that way.
/getoffmylawn - displacednomad, on 03/19/2009, -1/+3Let's go Mets, let's go!
- Anubis2051, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2If you want pics, check out these two threads:
NYS: http://baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=51384
Citi: http://baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=60954 - Anubis2051, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2Just because one team got lucky by finishing dead last for ten years, ensuring ten years of first overall picks and then made it to the WS doesn't mean thats the best way to do it. Fans don't want to see a losing team every year for one year of success, which is why the Rays wern't able to sell out even for the WS. That's insane! even with all the bandwagon hoppers, they still couldn't do it. And BTW, the Yankees and Mets Luxury Taxes are the only thing keep king a few teams (Kansas City, Tampa, Washington) from folding outright. Oh, and the Yankees alone account for over 25% of all MLB merchandise sold (without having to resort to BS marketing moves like making 100 alternate jerseys), money that is shared equally by all 30 clubs.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2paid for by you..for them.
- BenTheTank, on 03/19/2009, -1/+3When the Sox finally do away with Fenway Stadium, I'm gonna be pretty depressed. Mets and Yankee fans have to be feeling this lately...
- Anubis2051, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2OR they could go with the 1999 plan, and demolish the "support" buildings around the site and build there. Here check it out for yourself: http://www.ballparks.com/baseball/american/bosbpk. ...
- Portfolioso, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2Looks like a huge parking garage
- diggproof, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2tacklebox...not sure what you mean there...What about the Rays,Phillies, or any team spending under 100 million that have made the postseason and beyond?
- Cattywampus, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2"I hate the new stadiums."
They're a lot better than the old stadiums, like those monstrous multi-purpose stadiums such Riverfront Stadium, Three Rivers, and yes Shea Stadium. At least they're built to a smaller scale and designed to resemble classic old stadiums, rather than like a spaceship or a boring, generic 1970s institutional building. - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2don't know about the Yankees, but I don't know ANY Mets fan who misses that god awful Shea Stadium.
And they better NOT bring those ***** neon baseball payers over to CityField Those things are HIDEOUS. I hated them in the 80s when they were at least in "style" for the times. I can't beleiv they lasted about 22 years.
As for Fenway, they really CAN'T get a new ballpark. Unlike Yankee Stadium or Shea (Or the Meadowlands) there is no place to BUILD a new stadium for the Red Sox while still playing in the old one. No parking lot to build the new stadium next to the old one while they still play in the old one during construction. So unless they move out of Boston (which will NEVER happen) they are stuck with that stadium unless they can figure out a way to demolish Fenway and rebuild a new stadium all in the span of 5 months. - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -1/+3Marlins are a good example that championships can be bought and why the system should be changed.
- plainOldFool, on 03/19/2009, -2/+4You mean the sport where a team with the second lowest payroll can beat out the Yankees for the American League East and make it to the World Series?
- diggproof, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2Tell that to the Blue Jays, maybe they'll pick up brooms and ice skates and sweep some ice...they've been giving Yanks easy wins for years. They forgot how to hit when they play the damn bombers. WTF
- diggproof, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2What's their advantage when the lower spending teams are winning the WS?
- Dr3w, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2Zing!
- GPulse, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2I've been a baseball fan for 30 years and never heard that saying before. So true. I love it.
- plainOldFool, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2Zing!!!
- Lacrossedragon, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1PNC Park is rather nice though
- Cattywampus, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1"I hate the new stadiums."

- Cattywampus, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2"PNC Park is rather nice though"
Yeah, PNC, Camden Yards, etc.-- the retro-style ballparks I like. The ugly ones are the old stadiums from the '70s... really generic and sterile. - displacednomad, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2I thought this was going to be a pictorial tour.
I can only read so much about grandiose buildings in/out of context with their surroundings so many times. The new stadiums are much like their older counterparts, just moved 50 feet the left. - Cattywampus, on 03/19/2009, -2/+3Billy Joel comeback concerts.
- LordBalderdash, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1revenue sharing has been around in baseball for at least a decade, and while there isn't a hard cap there is a luxury tax (spend over a certain limit and for every dollar you spend you have to put a dollar into the revenue-sharing till).
- Anubis2051, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1The Mets have more September collapses since 2005 than the Yankees as well. oh, and the Yankees have 24 more world championships then the Mets. Just so ya know...
- Anubis2051, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1The field dimensions aren't even close. citi is much larger in some places, and more contrived, then shea was, which is a shame. There is no reason for asymmetry when you're building in an open parking lot, no reason whatsoever. Not to mention the walls at citi are huge, particularly in LF where the wall is 18ft tall! 18 ft!
Shea Dimensions:
LF- 338ft
LCF- 371ft
CF- 410ft
RCF- 371ft
RF- 338ft
Citi Dimensions:
LF - 335 ft
LCF - 379ft
CF - 408ft
RCF - 383ft
RF - 330ft - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1and that was shot down and will not be how they would do it. I lived in Boston then and there was VERY little support by anyone for that,
- Anubis2051, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2Well the one in the Bronx will be used for baseball, the one in queens though... new USFL team?
- shack95, on 03/19/2009, -2/+3Nice to see upstate NY paid for a good portion of these. Too bad it doesnt help us...
Buried for the waste of tax dollars.. - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2The Marlins are a perfect excample of what is wrong with the money situation. Yes, you can have anomalies, like 2003. But it is IMPOSSIBLE for a small market team (and even though it is a big city, itreally is a small market for baseball) to KEEP a good team together. Teams can get lucky with a few good drafts and have a gret team with mostly rookies and 2nd or 3rd year players. But in the current system, it is a 100% CERTAINTY that by the time they reach free agency after 4 or 5 seasons, the team will have to choose only 1 or 2 of those players to keep.
When you are basically limited to under 25 and over 35 players (and mediocre journeyman in between) you simply cannot stay competitive for more than a season or two. - kdoig, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Also the only game where the offense never touches the ball, and if you do you're out. Also the game allows for conversation during plays and in between plays. There's so much strategy, deception, communication going on that the casual fan will never realize.
If anyone tells you baseball is boring, tell them baseball's only boring to boring minds. - stustyle, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Where is Hampton over Iowa State?

go phills
go sox - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -1/+1I hate the Yankees and their new stadium states it perfectly- grandiose and completely full of itself. It's a monolith. I respect the history but hate the free spending. I actually dig the Mets new place though; especially the nod to the old Ebbet's Field.
That being said- GO CUBS! :) - Cannonballkid, on 03/19/2009, -1/+1I'll miss Shea I can see it from where I live but now I got Citi field to look at. I'm still gonna call it Shea though lol
