- DiggingDeep, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18minors? giggity!
- Buddhist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Cubs overworked him. 328 innings pitched in his first two years, he was destined for a lot of trouble. The Cubs did the same thing with Kerry Wood, and the Giants did it with Jerome Williams (who the Cubs later did it to to really end any chances of him being a star pitcher).
It's a damn shame too, Prior would've been spectacular. :( - holzp, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Prior to this, he was a good pitcher.
- XISUPERMANIX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Wow, 25 diggs and its on the front page. He was a great pitcher like Kerry Wood, but injuries really took a toll. A SI article once said he had something no other pitcher had - a perfect form.
- quacker912, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Mark Prior isn't a no name pitcher, buddy. He finished third in the National League's Cy Young Award voting in 2003 (18-6 win-loss record despite missing significant time with injury), plus he was invited to the 2003 All-Star game.
- quacker912, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Well...at least it's good to see more sports news on Digg front page.
- rockyRacoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Yeah, please don't comment if you don't know anything about sports, ok?
- DaveLam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5iowa cubs, going alllll the waaayyy
- silorats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2damn refreshing attitude from a sports star...I wish him the best and that's saying a lot coming from an Astros fan :)
- tsbicca, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5That's the sound of a million fantasy owners cried out in unison and were suddenly silenced.
- dawger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most fantasy owners got him late in the draft and he will be back this year anyway!
- Fire4Effect, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good old blue cross and blue shield...aka Kerry Wood and Mark Prior...
- DiggingDeep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2without the words "steroids" or "MVP" no less
- Joel32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1BUDDHIST-The cubs didn't overwork him...look at his innings @ USC, he had two season he threw more innings than he did in college and one was by 16 or so innnings if I recall. Baseball, and being a pitcher especially is a mental game...the physical injuries probably were twice as damaging to his psyche.
Mark Prior is a big name, he'll get it put back together, his comments are out of frustration, no doubt, he and Wood had that thing turned in the right direction, the Cubs went out and got Soriano this year, that in itself should make them a contender in the NL Central given that Wood and Prior were on their games. Their not called the loveable losers for nothing. - Fungo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As if it's his fault that the Cubs have to screw up every young pitcher that comes their way.
I feel sorry for that kid from Notre Dame. - nomad255, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it was already known like 2 weeks ago he was starting in the minors.
- turnTaker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1exactly.
Prior has all the physical tools to be a great pitcher. his mental game is just not there. he's proven that he can be a winner, and he SHOULD be winning games. i don't know, maybe it's because he's pitching under a lot of pressure in Chi-town. i don't think you can blame the lack of run support. - 1dog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Cubs are being careful with Prior. Why hurry the guy until you need him. They still have 162 games to play. As far as Kerry Wood I can remember Cubs color guy Steve Stone saying if Kerry Wood didn't change the way he threw he'd be selling cars in a couple years. He's almost ready.
- MadMan459, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I was hoping he'd really shine in spring training, but I guess he needs some more time. I just hope he keeps improving and can get back to the big club sometime during the summer.
By the way, my avatar.. "Max" from the old MacAddict magazine, wearing Mark Prior's hat. - 1dog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well its not like he'll ever have to work a real job ever if he was careful with what he has already earned.
- Kikinou, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1He was the pitcher in game six of the 2003 League Championship Series for the Cubs versus the Marlins... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_National_League_Championship_Series
In the top of the 8th inning, with one out, the batter hit a popup in foul ground that would have been caught by the outfielder for an out, but then the infamous incident took place, where this poor sap named Steve Bartman intercepted the ball and cost the Cubs an out... the wheels then came off and the Cubs lost the game, and proceeded to lose game seven as well. The Marlins went on to win the world series.
I lived in Chicago at the time, poor guy, he had the media hounding him at his house, he got death threats, some people in Miami offered him asylum heh. - dracostimpy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Poor guy my ass!! GTFO of the way Bartman, you friggin douchebag!!!! DIE DIE DIE!!!!
10/14... Never forget. - Cornedbeef, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1He is still young enough to continue his career with another team.
- 1dog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Baker should of went to the Bullpen more in that series. As bad as they were.
- caliguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Prior was one of the most promising young talents in the league only a few short years ago. What a shame he burned his arm out so quickly and thoroughly. Had he not tried to throw so many Ks, he may have lasted longer with the same total IPs. Same for Kerry Wood.
Sad thing is at this point the only thing that may save his career is the next BALCO...... - Simplogic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1@holzp
"Prior to this." I hope you meant that as a pun.
Ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiing! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+2Who?
- WorfoSAUR, on 10/12/2007, -17/+1What the? Why is this on the front page...a no name pitcher...
