Pudge - BlogEx, on 12/05/2007, -1/+15Holy Crap! That came out of nowhere. The Tigers are going to have an incredible lineup next year. You've got to wonder if the Marlins couldn't have gotten more for the best two players on their team.
- jimbocook, on 12/05/2007, -0/+10How is last place with those players different from last place without them? The Marlins seem content being non-competitive unless they can get lucky with young players that don't inflate the payroll.
- Richandler, on 12/05/2007, -0/+9Florida should have traded for some fans.
- NavyCS, on 12/05/2007, -0/+9Jimbo, thats the way Florida has been treating Baseball since the Marlins had their great run. I just hope in my life time the Rays at least have a winning season.
- DeadPain, on 12/05/2007, -0/+8The Tigers have at least 5 ex World Champion Marlins in their line up o_O
- zioxide, on 12/05/2007, -1/+9I feel bad for Marlins fans. Their owner doesn't give a ***** about anything besides padding his pockets.
- tehdave, on 12/05/2007, -1/+8This seriously made my day. Detroit will be insane this season.
- NavyCS, on 12/05/2007, -0/+7Will go a long way to improve the Tigers and maybe overtake Cleveland? Boston?
- Jerky1312, on 12/05/2007, -0/+7This looks like a huge steal by Detroit. Even though Willis had a sub par season, the guy is a young stud left handed pitcher. He is guaranteed a minimum of 15 wins with the Detroit line up and also add the fact the American League is not all that familiar Dontrelle, so that is another plus for the young pitcher. Again, a big time steal for Detroit. While everyone is talking about Santana, Detroit pulls a rug out underneath everyone and one of the best yougn lefties in the league and of the best young hitter in Cabrera. Don't be surprised if Willis has better record than Santana next year.
- Misinformant, on 12/05/2007, -0/+6I nearly wet myself reading that. Getting them both is nutty.
Cleveland has their work cut out for 'em next season. - pooper, on 12/05/2007, -0/+6Damn scary lineup, and damn good pitching staff too. Kinda looks like the Yankees a few years ago. Don't know if DTrain can handle the big bats in the AL, but he still a top 15 pitcher. The toughest division in baseball just got better.
- charliewoot, on 12/05/2007, -0/+6Now I wish the Lions could trade for the Tigers management. Then maybe Detroit could dominate in every professional sport.
- hazard, on 12/05/2007, -0/+4Not in Miami obviously, last season they had a record attendance of...375 people for one game! But this is the same team that has never lost a playoff series, and won 2 World Series in less than 15 years of existence. Last time they did it with a very low payroll. So maybe big contracts/names dont win games, right yankees?
- sgtbutterscotch, on 12/05/2007, -0/+4Holy hell.
- bamafun, on 12/05/2007, -0/+4seems like a huge gamble - Hope it pays off for them
- Skitzzo, on 12/05/2007, -0/+4They were competitive two years ago under Joe Girardi with young kids. I don't think trading the two of them is necessarily a bad idea but I'm not sure they got maximum value for their two all stars.
- Skitzzo, on 12/05/2007, -0/+4Yeah, if their farm system didn't suck I'm sure they could have. (this coming from a Cardinal fan)
- zioxide, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3I will be because Willis has to make the transition from the NL to the AL, which is usually tough. Santana will most likely remain in the AL.
- penguinomint, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3Ditto
- jimbocook, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3I know and they've made it work at times.
- uselessexpert, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3With the bad luck going around with all Florida teams, the Marlins are going to need more than 6 players to make anything happen next season.
- TimTheSloth, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3The deal the angels were offering seemed way better than this...
- Jerky1312, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3Transitioning from league to league is easier for pitchers than it is for position players. The pitcher does his thing no matter what league he is in, the hitter has to adjust to the pitchers. I'll admit the American League has better lineups, mainly due to the fact they have the DH, but pitchers always have the advantage when they are new to a league.
- mal1964, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2As a Twins fan I'm looking for a Tigers fan who could tell me what part of the outfield I should sit to catch home run balls hit by the Tigers in Minnesota.
- amawg9, on 12/05/2007, -1/+3Man I wish the Cardinals could have pulled this off.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Now if only their pitchers can learn to throw the ball anywhere besides home plate in pressure situations
- Rethcir, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Just a further weakening of the NL talent pool. Contraction is looking mighty fine right now.
- gusevx, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2detroit!
- chummel, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1Andrew Miller and Camryn Mabin were some serious prospects for Detroit to let go. Include Rabelo and 3 other minor leaguers, thats quite enough. I'm almost pissed that they got rid of the first two, I liked those guys.
- nobleexperiment, on 12/05/2007, -1/+2I see this headline: Florida Marlins, 2009 World Series Champions.
I'll tell you why this trade works for the advantage of the Marlins. They lower their salaries for that cheapskate owner of theirs, Jeffrey Loria. But Larry Beinfest pulled off a stunning trade with Marlin Alum Dave Dombrowski. The Marlins will start Maybin at Center cos Alejandro De Aza is injury prone and at best, your cheap outfielder of the mold of Luis Terrero. Andrew Miller is ready for the majors and will be starting in the fifth spot of the rotation unless Josh Johnson pitches well. Miller is as good as Chris Young as a southpaw. There's an another player that isn't mentioned on the link that the Marlins may get which would move Uggla to third and that's Mike Hollimon. Hollimon's a poor man's Marcus Giles. Plus, the marlins get more pitchers from the Tigers.
Of course on paper the Tigers get a sick lineup and rotation with Cabrera and Willis. Its a win win for Larry Beinfest and once-a-marlin-who-started-the-fire-sale-now-with-the-tigers Dave Dombrowksi. Just don't underestimate the Marlins. A Third win is likely before 2010. Maybe.
I'm not a Marlins fan, but operating on a penny pinching budget should force MLB to create a spending floor so that they don't earn extra cash from the luxury tax. Hopefully, the marlins can revive Mr. Marlin Jeff Conine to be the team leader for the new kids once again.
I hope Bartolo Colon joins my San Diego Padres. - sgtbutterscotch, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1I love blockbuster trades that come out of nowhere. I was kind of annoyed when ESPN kept saying mt Braves were close to a deal with the Ranger to get Teixera. Then it annoyed me even more as Schuerholz was praised, even though it seemed as if everyone knew the exact trade that was going to happen one second after negotiations began.
- patw85, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1If Illich owned the Wings, Tigers and Lions it'd be nuts
- mal1964, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1Cool that will be easy to remember, It seems no matter where I am, people tell me that's where they think I am all the time.
- gusevx, on 12/05/2007, -0/+0deep left field.
- RizzoFrank, on 12/05/2007, -0/+0ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I HATE MAYBIN. Why in the world would you move Granderson out of centerfield to let some punk with braces play. Granderson is all-star type player. Maybin kept missing fly balls becuase of "the sun." Miller has a good future eventually. But Maybin, not a chance, he will never make it in majors. NEVER! Cabrera can play 3rd base decently rumor has it. So we can move Inge out of here finally. All he was good for was a guaranteed strikeout. If he is "so athletic" who cares, he swings at everything out of the zone and misses.
- ArshakIII, on 02/07/2008, -0/+0Emm.. will they win the first division? I think yes!
Yeaahh kill them all))
http://notesfromthenat.com thanks to http://www.emergencysoft.com and http://www.sitemapwriter.com - halfemptyfilms, on 12/05/2007, -4/+3Wow, I can't believe they were in stock!
- jimbocook, on 12/05/2007, -3/+1Skitz, they tested the waters with NY, Boston and LA if this was the best offer they got, it was probably the best they were gonna get.
- HanSolo69, on 12/05/2007, -4/+2What's up with Blockbuster now? I can't find that part of the story.
- Hosalabad, on 12/05/2007, -8/+3Blockbuster owns a baseball team? Wow, who knew they were expanding into live entertainment.
- stopsucking, on 12/05/2007, -8/+3Buried as inaccurate. Blockbuster does not have a baseball team.
- chesbomb, on 12/05/2007, -11/+2worst movie ever.
- flipcritic, on 12/05/2007, -15/+3So people still watch baseball. Zzzzz...
- john2kx, on 12/05/2007, -21/+2People still care about baseball?
