As a Red Sox fan, I hope he can adjust to Major League hitters, and can face off with them effectively. His major drawback is that he hasn't seen major league hitting yet.
/crosses fingers - datastorageguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1True but on a regular basis? How about a 5 day schedule? From what I hear, in Japan the pitching rotation is every 6 days.
- Dallas70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In all fairness Boras had no room to negotiate, the only other option would be for Matsuzaka to return to his team and become re-posted the next year. Boras could have accused Boston of negotiating in bad faith but even he knew he didn't have much of a case.
- Dallas70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He has faced MLB hitters in the World Baseball Classic and held his own. I'm curious to see if he can survive in a hostile environment with huge stakes on the line.
- DaveLam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The big thing about this deal is the fact that Theo beat out Boras to get the better deal. Boras was asking for 100+ not including the posting fee. But the Red Sox organization being the level headed brass guys that we have all come to know and love knew that Matsuzaka just wanted a deal to get done. So they ended up paying about 101 million which is the correct market price for a pitcher of his caliber.
