A-Rod: 'No further comment' on Canseco's steroid claims
sports.espn.go.com — Alex Rodriguez refused to address allegations by Jose Canseco, who claims he introduced the three-time MVP to a steroids dealer. "It's over as far as I'm concerned," Rodriguez said. "No further comment on the matter. I'm just excited to be playing baseball."

Also lol first comment!- karmaghost, on 03/27/2008, -1/+72nd comment! See, i got right under ya even though that dcollins guy got in before me!
- dcollins, on 03/27/2008, -0/+6you sneaky bastard....
- dcollins, on 03/27/2008, -1/+5I personally, would welcome some more sports news on digg.
- karmaghost, on 03/27/2008, -1/+72nd comment! See, i got right under ya even though that dcollins guy got in before me!
- dcollins, on 03/27/2008, -4/+7As much as I am a red sox fan, and would love to see A-Rod taken down a peg, I honestly don't think he did steroids.
- bingobongony, on 03/27/2008, -6/+1That is fine and dandy...but what are you basing that on? Nothing but a GUESS.
- dcollins, on 03/27/2008, -0/+8I am basing it on the fact his name did not come up with the mitchell report, and right now the only evidence is that A-Rod allegedly asked Conseco where he could get steroids. A brief temptation to obtain steroids does not mean he went through with it.
- bingobongony, on 03/27/2008, -3/+1But it sure as hell is a pretty good reason to suspect. And you just refuse to acknloedge that it is pretty damn likely. Plus...you don't know what the book says. You don't know that it was just ARod making an innocent inquiry about where to get some.
- papipablo, on 03/27/2008, -0/+7Consider the source. Canseco will say anything/do anything for money.
- jspegele, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1And what is your opinion based on? The word of a money grubbing attention whore?

- papipablo, on 03/27/2008, -5/+15Dugg down for being a Red Sox fan.
- dcollins, on 03/27/2008, -4/+3Hmmm....still bitter over the ALCS are we?
- papipablo, on 03/27/2008, -4/+4Dugg down for insinuating I'm a Yankees fan.
- dcollins, on 03/27/2008, -0/+3I was thinking Cleveland. Yankees lost the ALDS.
- HamSandwich, on 03/27/2008, -6/+2Alright, kids... you're both dugg down for thinking that major league baseball isn't a huge crapfest to begin with.
- papipablo, on 03/27/2008, -4/+4Dugg down for insinuating I'm a Yankees fan.
- dcollins, on 03/27/2008, -4/+3Hmmm....still bitter over the ALCS are we?
- Portfolioso, on 03/27/2008, -0/+2As much as I am a Yankee fan, and would NOT want to see A-Rod taken down a peg, I honestly believe he may have done steroids at some point. does he still do them now? Most likely not, with everything going on.
- SoxSweepAgain, on 03/27/2008, -0/+3I just want the past to be over with and move forward with a ridiculously punitive and stringent third-party program. I'm a huge Red Sox fan and I DON'T CARE if A-Rod took 'roids as long as he (and everyone else) STOPS/STOPPED.
- bingobongony, on 03/27/2008, -6/+1That is fine and dandy...but what are you basing that on? Nothing but a GUESS.
- chrissku, on 03/27/2008, -6/+3I smell a case of 'misremembering' coming on.
- linkwray, on 03/27/2008, -0/+0OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS!
- fissionvsfusion, on 03/27/2008, -2/+6The only way to solve this is a home run derby competition using Canseco's book instead of a baseball.
- groberts1980, on 03/27/2008, -0/+2Or Conseco's severed head.
- bingobongony, on 03/27/2008, -8/+2Hmmm...Where have I heard "no comment" before? Let's see...McGwire. Sosa. Clemens. Pettitte. Palmeiro. Bonds. Marion Jones. Floyd Landis.
- LuCiFer6, on 03/27/2008, -1/+5Well not Sosa, if you remember he "forgot how to speak English" for bit there during his troubles with this topic.
- jspegele, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1He didn't say "no comment" he said "no FURTHER comment". There is a difference.
- maddog66, on 03/27/2008, -2/+18"I cannot bet my life on it ... that Alex Rodriguez ever used steroids," Canseco said, according to excerpts posted on abcnews.com, "but in my opinion, I suspect he has, yes." Jose is trash, he's doing the same thing with Maglio Ordonez of the Detroit Tigers. He tried to get Maglio to put money into his movie project in order to leave Maglio's name out of everything. He is pure scum.
- bingobongony, on 03/27/2008, -4/+2He's trash...who has proven to be the only saving grace in baseball lately. Assholes (probably including you) called him trash when he named Clemens, and Palmeiro, etc. too.
As for your Ordonez story..soruces please? And no..your imagination is not a valid source.- marm0lade, on 03/27/2008, -0/+4You are an idiot. Canseco did not name Clemens. Palmeiro yes, but not arod. On Canseco's recent nightline interview he said he DOES NOT believe Clemens used steroids and thinks he was telling the truth during the congressional hearing. Please do not use half-truths and your blind hate to try and smear arod's name.
- maddog66, on 03/27/2008, -0/+3Here is my source you idiot: http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2008/01/24/jose-can ...
Now go eat some crow you stupid troll.

- bigpeeler, on 03/27/2008, -3/+2"I'm not here to talk about the past." - Mark McGwire
- papipablo, on 03/27/2008, -0/+16Dugg down because Jose Conseco will do anything for money.
- tolbs, on 03/27/2008, -0/+8Growing up as a kid in Oakland, Jose Canseco was my Hero (hey, I was 8). These days, he's just another attention-starved whore. Sure, he blew the door open for baseball to clean up it's act, but everything henceforth has been just a grab for attention....terrible.
- bingobongony, on 03/27/2008, -5/+2So...people are attention whores for telling the truth and finally doing the right thing to you?
- tolbs, on 03/27/2008, -0/+4If he was "telling the truth" and "doing the right thing" he would have revealed this A LONG TIME ago, you know before Arod signed another 200+ million contract this summer. Or how about coming out about it way back when he was starting all this jazz with his first book? The guy is just grabbing for money. He has absolutely no credibility.
I'm not a Yankees fan, and I don't think much of Arod, but i'm 100% confident this is absolutely false. Canseco is going for the guy who can erase the Steroids era from the record books. 800 homeruns (which he is capable of) and 1 good year and he can wipe Barry Bonds off the map. Unless he has proof, because his word is worth nothing, he's doing a COMPLETE disservice to Baseball.

- DeskFlyer, on 03/27/2008, -1/+7I think all players should be require to be roided out, that way we can start seeing 500' bombs every inning.
- Ocelot13, on 03/27/2008, -0/+4they need full contact too.
lets see them try to steal any more bases. - SoxSweepAgain, on 03/27/2008, -0/+3I think they should be able to carry their bats when they run the bases.
- Ocelot13, on 03/27/2008, -0/+4they need full contact too.
- diggrnumber1, on 03/27/2008, -4/+0how did this get to the front page? there are probably 20 stories with a greater number of diggs.
- bingobongony, on 03/27/2008, -1/+5Because you are too simply minded to understand that the algorithm is not just about number of diggs?
- mal1964, on 03/27/2008, -4/+7A Roid
- donkeyshow, on 03/27/2008, -2/+1needle in his butt = no further comment.
- xplayman, on 03/27/2008, -3/+2He doesn't look like he did steroids but at the same time he does jump from failure to a success story from time to time at odd moments. I'm a die hard Yankees fan and would love to hear this false. I'm also tired of hearing this damn story about steroids on every baseball game that airs!!!
- jimbojim, on 03/27/2008, -0/+5His stats are pretty consistent throughout his career. Some teams he has been on have been worse than others, but he hasn't changed much himself.
- bingobongony, on 03/27/2008, -2/+1Well...he began his career DURING the steroid era. So you would expect his states to be consistent eithe way. Unlike, say Bonds, or Clemens, who started their careers before the steroid era so there was an obvious jump in their numbers.
- bingobongony, on 03/27/2008, -3/+2Steroids are NOT just used to put on huge bulk.
- bingobongony, on 03/27/2008, -2/+1Wow..why would someone bury a factual statement like that? LOTs of non-muslce bound people, including non- professional athletes take steroids for reasons other than bulking up. They help the body recover from a workout. If you are power lifting, they will help you put on bulk. If you are doing a workout routine that is not designed for bulk, it will help you in other ways, like recovering faster.
It is completely ignorant to assume that someone is not taking steroids solely because their neck is still skinnier than their shoulders.

- SoxSweepAgain, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1Big Sox fan here and I agree with you 100%.
- bingobongony, on 03/27/2008, -2/+1If ARod didn't res0gn last fall, you would be screaming your lungs out about how he DEFINITELY was taking steroids.
That is how the pathetic Yankee fans are.
- jimbojim, on 03/27/2008, -0/+5His stats are pretty consistent throughout his career. Some teams he has been on have been worse than others, but he hasn't changed much himself.
- jimbojim, on 03/27/2008, -0/+5Canseco - "Hmmm, how can I make more money on another book? Oh, I know! I'll accuse the best player in baseball of using steroids."
If Canseco had anything on A-Rod, why wouldn't he have put it in his first book? What, do you think people are telling Canseco more secrets after he already sold out everyone he knew in his first book?
He wanted attention so bad he appeared on a VH1 reality show. I think it goes without saying he'll do just about anything for attention now. - sfcitybootcamp, on 03/27/2008, -0/+3No futher comment. Sorry, I am busy having Roger inject my Rocket with some roids.
- KittySpark1es, on 03/27/2008, -1/+4I live in Sherman Oaks, CA and Canseco works out at the 24 Hour Fitness I goto, and I see him around the area every once in a while. That guy is like a giant tree trunk...he's got to be on so many roids right now. I can't believe he was my childhood hero...until Jim Carrey took his spot.
- PyroRaver, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1is it the 24 hour fitness on Van Nuys or in the Galleria?
- sislam02, on 03/27/2008, -3/+0canseco is a dork...
and i don't believe a-rod took 'roids --- he seems legit
but hey, anything's possible - mcolborn, on 03/27/2008, -0/+3Although I dislike Arod for leaving the Mariners (for money), I know he did not use steroids. He has had consistently good numbers since 1996. Cansecos turning steroids into a witch hunt and ruining baseball, I might not like Arod but I respect him as one of the best and I don't want that respect to be tarnished.
- buddahead9, on 03/27/2008, -0/+3How come Jose never mentions the crappy players he helped get roids?!?!?! I'm sure there had to be some AAA player that was starting to get a bit older and was like hey Jose... help me out.
- EdwrdDiggrhands, on 03/27/2008, -0/+2Because naming the names of crappy players that nobody cares about won't sell books. Anyone who thinks that Canseco is doing this out a sense of responsibility or integrity has got to be kidding themselves. He's in it for the money and attention, and he's practically admitted as much.
- whatthefu, on 03/27/2008, -1/+1This steroid thing is going to turn into a god damn witch hunt.
- topgigmedia, on 03/27/2008, -0/+2I love baseball and am tired of the steroids issue. I am not proposing this as a plan to move forward on, but for the sake of argument, say they legalize them on one hand and ALSO counter with huge ad campaigns on how damaging they are - targeted toward kids. I mean commercials, signs at the ballparks, etc. Let's face it, those who are going to take them, will do so anyway and some of these "cheaters" will go undetected. Perhaps by leveling the playing field (bad pun and not intentional) this will infuse excitement back in the game again and allow us to put the steroid controversy behind us.
On the flip side - they could go the other way and ban anyone for a 1st offense. Period.- SoxSweepAgain, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1If it were up to me, they'd suspend you for 162 games for a first offense, five years for a second (which is basically a lifetime ban, and which you could only accept if you agreed to constant testing at YOUR expense during the five year ban).
I'd require blood tests and have it done by a third party.
THAT would clean this crap up AND catch HGH users. - EdwrdDiggrhands, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1You realize that there aren't any validated commercially available HGH blood tests, don't you? Other than that, I'm with you on the steroids thing on principle, but I don't see ramping up the punishment as an effective deterrent.
As long as steroid use isn't consistently penalized, guys will keep taking them. The guys that take the stuff because they need to in order to to keep their roster spot aren't going to stop even if first time offense is a lifetime ban. Even if they get caught, they're just losing a job that they otherwise wouldn't have anyways. Increasing severity of punishment will do next to nothing. The only real solution is to make testing comprehensive and effective enough that everyone who uses will get caught. That means more frequent tests that are harder to beat.
- SoxSweepAgain, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1If it were up to me, they'd suspend you for 162 games for a first offense, five years for a second (which is basically a lifetime ban, and which you could only accept if you agreed to constant testing at YOUR expense during the five year ban).
- EdwrdDiggrhands, on 03/27/2008, -0/+0The title's disingenuous at best. I'm a Red Sox fan and I don't like A-Rod, so I'm definitely not some homer here, but come on. For one, What A-Rod really said was that he was going to prepare a statement and release it. He wasn't going to answer the same stupid questions 100 times, so until his statement was released he wouldn't have further comment.
Also, early word is that Canseco's book offers no real evidence that A-Rod used steroids. Canseco claims that he introduced him to a steroid dealer (who he doesn't even name), and that's it. I know everyone's excited for a chance to get their torches and pitchforks out, but that's just not enough to cast any more suspicion on Alex than is on any other slugger in the MLB right now.
One last weird point is that Canseco claims that A-Rod wanted his wife. Not sure what that has to do with anything, but seems a little odd. IMO Canseco let his newfound credibility from the last book go to his head, and now he's just accusing a guy that he doesn't like since he knows that he doesn't need to offer any proof--he can convict anyone that he wants in the court of public opinion.
I know appealing to diggers to be rational is kind of a lost cause, but this is just a joke. I'm not saying that it's not likely that A-Rod has done roids, but Canseco's accusal has no credibility at all. - Slayerdude51982, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1Canseco needs to knock it off, now he's just trying to start a witch hunt, really can't believe he's going after A-Rod now. Other than being a douche bag from time to time, I do respect A-Rod, cept for when he chokes or screws up for some dumb reason, but really Canseco please just go away. Far away.
- Kohaxx, on 03/27/2008, -0/+0As a Seattlite... Screw you A-Roid!
