$725 gets you a ticket to MLB's All-Star Game
sportsillustrated.cnn.com — Fans will pay starry prices for this year's All-Star game at Yankee Stadium. Tickets will be priced at $150-$725 for the July 15 game, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday. That's up from $75-$285 for last year's game at San Francisco and $10-15 for box and reserved seats the last time the All-Stars were at Yankee Stadium, in 1977.

- logan074, on 04/30/2008, -2/+1Thank you I was hoping someone else noticed that.
- rationalthinker, on 04/30/2008, -2/+0The people who pay those prices are the same idiot clowns who buy a 500,000 dollar house on a $1500 month income. As far as I'm concerned, the ***** All Stars can ram their tickets where the sun don't shine.
- retsig, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1I hope someone fires the loan officer.
- Butros, on 04/30/2008, -1/+2but it's jankee stadium mang!
- nickcozy, on 04/30/2008, -9/+1I spent $1000 and its worth .

- inigomntoya, on 04/30/2008, -4/+3The worth of a thousand dollars is a thousand dollars - duh.
- petemcfraser, on 04/30/2008, -2/+5It's worth $998.34 by the time you are reading this.

- GhostFreeman, on 04/30/2008, -0/+9Sure, go to the "Navigation" option at the top.
- PolishLogic, on 04/30/2008, -0/+4psst.....use your setttings.
- trer, on 04/30/2008, -0/+10How about you read the title, figure out that "MLB's All-Star Game" is talking about baseball, and then not click it?
- inigomntoya, on 04/30/2008, -2/+1I like your option best. That way, I don't miss anything that I might find interesting in baseball - like Clemens affair with what's her face.
- soonermandan, on 04/30/2008, -3/+15this might be because it will be the last all-star game played in old yankee stadium. correct me if i'm wrong i don't have time to check up on the facts
- PolishLogic, on 04/30/2008, -2/+5Correct, Yankee Stadium closes at the end of the year.
- Butros, on 04/30/2008, -3/+1good riddance!
- reuscel, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1Unfortunately, the Yankees will still be around.
- murraj2, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1If only it was actually possible to buy them. The prices probably aren't set high enough, just wait until they get put on stub hub and go for 5x whatever their face value is.
- Jrr6415sun, on 04/30/2008, -0/+4I've been to the allstar game a few years and I never understood why the prices were so much lower than they could be selling for. The demand is definitely greated than the supply and you're right, these tickets will be sold for 5x the price on ebay or stub hub. It never made sense to me why the ballparks wouldn't want that extra profit instead of giving it to some scalper... there has to be some reason for it I guess, maybe an MLB rule?
- cashwarsplaya, on 04/30/2008, -6/+1Why would anyone pay $725 for a ticket to a game that could end in a tie?
I love baseball, but the over the top commercialization is getting to me- PolishLogic, on 04/30/2008, -1/+2If I remember correctly from my last trip to the All-Star game over 10 years ago, I think the cost includes entrance to the Home Run Derby, and the other All-Star festivities and skills contests the day before.
For what it's worth....- Jrr6415sun, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2you can buy them all together, or you can buy them seperately, they are different tickets and on different days, but they can be included as a package. One year I got tickets to the home run derby and the celebrity game but not the All=star game, another year I got tickets to the All-star game but not the events before it.
- acemilo, on 04/30/2008, -9/+1Since when can baseball end up in a tie? Extra innings my friend, baseball isn't retarded like some other pseudo sports like soccer.
- mcdehuevo, on 04/30/2008, -0/+8Normally you'd be right, but the 2002 all-star game managed to end in a tie after 11 innings. Thank Bud Selig for that gem...
- SnuKs, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Which league would get homefield adv. in the world series then?
- cashwarsplaya, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1It was before the homefield adv. thing started with the world series. I don't think they'd end a game with a tie anymore because of the new rules.

- cdahlkvist, on 04/30/2008, -2/+1Local gay bar?
- stubear, on 04/30/2008, -0/+0Wrong, the All-star game can no longer end in a tie because the outcome determines who gets home field advantage in the World Series.
- PolishLogic, on 04/30/2008, -1/+2If I remember correctly from my last trip to the All-Star game over 10 years ago, I think the cost includes entrance to the Home Run Derby, and the other All-Star festivities and skills contests the day before.

Who do you think is doing the mugging? - Butros, on 04/30/2008, -2/+3Yeah how safe would he be wearing a sox cap?
- btraxx, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1More safe than wearing a Yankees cap at Fenway.
- rdoger6424, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Safer than a TO jersey in Philly

- itsbob, on 04/30/2008, -5/+2The cost of entertainment is insane!
But we pay it - NikoK, on 04/30/2008, -6/+5Thats purely ridiculous. Whoever pays for this doesn't value their money and has no common sense.
- Jrr6415sun, on 04/30/2008, -1/+3because your preferences and value of money are the same as everyone else's in the world?
- logan074, on 04/30/2008, -1/+0Do you not own any luxury items? Different people like different things.
- Jrr6415sun, on 04/30/2008, -1/+3because your preferences and value of money are the same as everyone else's in the world?
- itsontheway, on 04/30/2008, -7/+1Is there a changing user base on Digg or something? What is with all these sports stories? Not that I have anything against sports, but this is highly unusual for Digg. The only thing I could think of is if Digg is going more mainstream and thus having a wider user base with interests other than tech, politics, and nerd stuff. Or, the alternative theory: somebody is paying somebody to get this to the front page.
- alittleroy101, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1I spent 1500.00 for two tickets to the World Series last year. I also went to most of the post season games up to the WS. By now, all that money would have already been spent anyhow. I have amazing memories of the Rockies run to the WS, it was an incredible experience.
- NeoCortex, on 04/30/2008, -3/+1This is just ***** ridiculous. Even regular ticket prices around the league are getting out of hand. Whatever happened to being able to take a family out to enjoy the American Past-time without getting a second mortgage?
- Buckeye70, on 04/30/2008, -1/+3Tickets in bleachers are cheap anywhere. Went to Yankees game and sat in bleachers. Tickets in bleachers for the REDS are $7.00. Family of 4 $28. Cheaper than a movie. Compared to NBA, NFL, NHL, baseball is cheap.
- chanop, on 04/30/2008, -3/+2$7.00 for not being able to tell if it's a fould ball or home-run...... Bleacher seats are worthless at Yankee Stadium
- Light11, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1i agree, base ball is pretty cheap compareable. here in winnipeg we dont even have a mlb team but its fine, pay 5 bucks for the super savers and then go sit somewhere else where its empty. works everytime

- Fast05GT, on 04/30/2008, -2/+9I'm going to miss the old Yankee Stadium
- aloser, on 04/30/2008, -6/+2Except $285 1977 dollars is equal to $974.96 2008 dollars based on the CPI (Consumer Price Index). That $725 is a bargain in real dollars.
Source: http://www.measuringworth.com/uscompare/- aloser, on 04/30/2008, -1/+4Scratch that; misread as $285 in 1977, not last year's price.
- freshyill, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Or maybe it was just more of a ripoff in 1977.
- amawg9, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1The all-Star game is in St. Louis next year and I'd really like to go, but I don't think I''d pay more than $200.
- tlo182, on 04/30/2008, -1/+3FTA:
"They will be adjusted for St. Louis. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity -- instant memorabilia, instant memories," said Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer.
See what he means is - this is yet another opportunity for the MLB to scalp tickets to their own games, just like their partnership with Stubhub.- Butros, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1the thing is though, if they sell at a lower price the scalpers would buy them all up and sell for market price anyway. The cost is high and the seats will be filled, which unfortunately means the price is right Bob...
- freshyill, on 04/30/2008, -4/+5I'll pass. I can be bored at home for free.
- xJudahx, on 04/30/2008, -1/+5You sure can, just read your comments.
- logan074, on 04/30/2008, -0/+10Bad headline. They picked the most expensive price point for the tickets, that is like saying 300,000 dollars get you a car when you could just get the 9,000 dollar Hyundai.
- LogicBomB, on 04/30/2008, -5/+1That's ***** crazy to watch a game. For $725 I'd want autographs, memorabilia, and a meet-and-great.
- partysan, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Yeah, shell out for a program. There's your memorabilia.
- Tekkfu, on 04/30/2008, -8/+3$700 for the boring-est & worst sport in the world....ill pass on this one.
- xJudahx, on 04/30/2008, -3/+5Another person that hasn't seen a soccer game.
- DeFex, on 04/30/2008, -2/+5never watched cricket?
- mlavergn, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2I don't know about that. I paid to go see a PGA event once and I can't say I've ever wanted to go see another, even for free.
- richardpryor, on 04/30/2008, -2/+3Those of you who are having a fit obviously know nothing about sports.
Yankees Stadium will be obsolete next year and this will be the last major sporting event there (no world series for the yanks). It's a historic piece of architecture and it would be worth it.- stubear, on 04/30/2008, -0/+0Actually the NHL is planning a game at Yankees Stadium AFTER the Yankees have vacated it. I forgot the teams playing but there was a big stink raised about it a while ago.
- btraxx, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1"Those of you who are having a fit obviously know nothing about sports."
It's called YANKEE Stadium, and yes there is an NHL game planned.
- digitallysick, on 04/30/2008, -1/+3I don't even watch it on tv for free, not something i would ever pay for.
- DeFex, on 04/30/2008, -2/+2people who go to that deserve it.
- alphonseragusa, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3No thanks. I'll just take my kid to a Long Island Ducks game. Seats are 50 cents. He won't know the difference!
- reuscel, on 04/30/2008, -1/+4It's not the only overpriced thing at Yankee Stadium... *cough...A-Rod...*cough*
- somabc, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Thats nothing tickets for the Champions League Final are going for $10,000+
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7375218.stm- partysan, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2Real fans with season tickets get first dibbs on tickets anyway. Posers that go just to be seen there deserve to pay that price. Nothing worse than rich bastards in suits that aren't fans of either team just sitting in their seats ruining the atmosphere. Sort of like half the stadium at the Super Bowl.
- rdoger6424, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Half? Given that super bowl tickets are sold before the game, I'd say a lot more than half.

150 Laker tickets for a regular season game are still all the way in the top. Now thats a rip off!
I hate basketball ticket pricing.
Plus thats almost what it cost to fill up a V8 SUV of Gasoline thats gone in less than a week.
You guys can thank your Great President Bush for that. - charlie55, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3the all-star game is kinda boring anyways. all-star games in general are not that great.

- Wolfsschanze, on 04/30/2008, -1/+0Sure, the price is a little absurd, but it's the last All-Star game ever to be held in epic Yankee Stadium. That's of some significance, not much, but some. Not only that, but the Yankees are also assured of having a fair amount of their own players on the AL squad by virtue of fan voting. It's going to be their night, so I can see anyone who follows Yankees baseball taking a particular interest in the nights events. Everybody else... not so much.
- 3tcp, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1The yankees can shove it
- 3tcp, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1The all-star game - come spend an arm and a leg to watch a bunch of talented professionals loaf it in a game that doesn't matter.
- p51d007, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1I wouldn't pay a plug nickel to see the "so called" all star game. Bunch of overpaid cry babies.
- TheLegacy23, on 04/30/2008, -0/+0wow any one that would spend that much on a ticket to go see the stupidest game of all time deserves to just go for free because honestly baseball is the least athletic sport of all time and the funny thing is, is that you need steroids to get good at it...
