2008 Major League Baseball All-Star Game Lineups Announced
sports.espn.go.com — The American League's All-Star starters have a distinct Red Sox-flavor. And the National League starting lineup includes three Chicago Cubs.
- 617 diggs
- digg it
- n3il89, on 07/06/2008, -7/+20Brian McCann should be the starter for the NL. McCann is hitting .298 with the same amount of HR, better OPS with less SOs, scoring more runs, hits and more doubles. also, as a lefty he's hitting .330 against lefties! and ESPN thinks so too. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/allstar08/news/story ...
- sgtbutterscotch, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I hope that Soto got in because he was doing better in the beginning part of the year than McCann I think. If it's just because he's a Cub, that's *****.
- FK0123, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6Their stats are basically the same. I can't see why this one would be one that people argue as it being the wrong guy. If McCann had vastly superior numbers or something that'd be one thing..., but really you should probably find a different snub to complain about.
McCann vs. Soto (stats on the morning of July 7th):
BA = McCann
HR = Same
R = McCann
RBI = Soto
OBP = Soto
Slugging = McCann (by .006)
OPS = Soto (by .006)
Hits = McCann
BB = Soto
That edge in doubles of 2 and a good BA against lefties sure is convincing though... I mean, BA against lefties? Good for him, but who gives a flying ****.
They have the same stats and the cubs have more fans, it happens.- alexkball, on 07/07/2008, -4/+1aaaaannnnd nobody cares.
- thebaron2, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Except for ESPN and the OP, apparently.
- bizsumpark182, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1I'm surprised that Russel Martin was voted the starter. But, I think Soto got in because he is a Cub.
- jakobmakob, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Not sure about that. I mean, the Cubs tend to have only one or two players in the ASG.
- mizatt, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Martin wasn't voted in as the starter, was he? Soto was
- wezults, on 07/06/2008, -10/+56Too much Sox, not enough Rays.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 07/07/2008, -8/+7The Rays are great because they get contribution from everybody, not just their most notable players. But yeah, too much Sox
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/07/2008, -6/+9The Rays don't have anybody except for Longoria maybe. They play great team ball, but its not an allstar club.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1except for he missed like the first month and a half didn't he? it's hard to get voted on the team when you're not on the ballot...
- marm0lade, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2nobody except longoria? Upton, Crawford, Kazmir, and Shields are all All-star quality players.
- alexkball, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Kazmir is an all-star. Sheesh.
- masterkenobi, on 07/07/2008, -18/+21***** the Red Sox.
- knifesideleft, on 07/07/2008, -8/+3Thanks for that informative post jackass
- masterkenobi, on 07/07/2008, -5/+8It wasn't meant to be informative, douchebag.
- knifesideleft, on 07/07/2008, -7/+5Ok then let me rephrase that.
Thanks for the very unsportsmanlike post representing everything that is a bad baseball fan. - alexkball, on 07/07/2008, -4/+9***** you knifes I second the notion. I can't stand the ***** Red Sox and all their fake fans spread across the ***** country who've never been to Fenway but have a hat and claim to be part of "Red Sox Nation". Seriously I used to hate the Yankees like everyone else but I'd gladly cheer for them over the Sox any day.
- Ajajadude, on 07/07/2008, -6/+2***** you, alex, most of us have been to Fenway and been there dozens of times.
- masterkenobi, on 07/07/2008, -1/+6http://www.redlasso.com/ClipPlayer.aspx?id=dffdd68 ...
Again, ***** the Red Sox. And cursing out another team isn't "unsportsmanlike". That's being a baseball fan. If you have never in your lifetime ever cursed another baseball team (or any sports team for that matter), then go ahead and cast the first stone.
Douchebag. - knifesideleft, on 07/07/2008, -5/+2No you missed the whole point. Cursing another team is fine but when you yell ***** any team publicly all your doing is inciting anger which is the total ***** opposite. That ***** causes pointless fights for no damn reason. It sure as hell doesn't make the team look good. Its great to make jabs at fans of other teams, encourage a rivalry, but not to the point where you make them hate you. And thanks for that awesome clip, but holy ***** you might as well post one for every team there is cause no one is innocent.
- groberts1980, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3Can we at least get some Cubs hating in this thread? Haven't won a world series in over a century, yet they have the most arrogant fans in major league baseball. ***** the Cubs. The All Star game is just a popularity contest, which is proven by 7 Red Sox and 7 Cubs players. It's supposed to be the all star game, not the bandwagon game. Fan voting ruined this year's all star game.
- dbucky, on 07/07/2008, -2/+11Dear goodness, as a Tampa native my heart almost explodes with excitement at that sentence.
- spinemangler, on 07/07/2008, -17/+7There is no such thing as too much Red Sox.
- KurtangleTN, on 07/07/2008, -6/+2That's what happens when you are the WS champs, other than Varitek and I'd say Kinsler deserves starting over Pedroia, they all deserve it
- marm0lade, on 07/07/2008, -2/+2World series wins have nothing to do with all-star votes. At least they shouldn't. It's idiots like you that ***** up the voting for the players that deserve to make it.
- KurtangleTN, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1Yeah except that 2nd half and playoff performances should hold value in all star votes. After all it would be a pretty useless if it's just based on first half numbers.
- marm0lade, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Wrong, again. Playoff performances should have ZERO influence. Would you care to explain why post season stats are kept separately from the regular season? When you look at any player's stats, why are his playoff stats not included?
The playoffs are treated as a separate "season". And that was last season anyways. It has nothing to do with THIS season's all-stars. YES, it is based off first half performances, you silly little ignorant fan boy.
- mk3k, on 07/07/2008, -3/+4***** everybody rooted for them before they won the WS, now the anti stuff is just funny. Everybody loves the underdog.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 07/07/2008, -3/+3I'll admit I rooted for them to win their first WS. What I hate about the Red Sox is that when they visit mostly every other ballpark their fans take up half, or even more of the stands, and that just pisses me off. I mean, I can understand rooting for them to end a 100 year old curse, especially as the foe of the evil Yankees, but when most of the fans in my hometown ballpark are rooting for the Sox during interleague games, my insides want to explode.
- Ajajadude, on 07/07/2008, -2/+7So, you're pissed that the home team, your team, can't draw enough of their own fans to the stadium?
- sgtbutterscotch, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3...yeah because Boston's taking up all the ***** fans who only root for them because it's trendy and they're doing good these past few years
- Ajajadude, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1So, basically, you're saying there are very little die hard fans for your city's sports and that they're all a bunch of bandwagoners? Again, how is this the fault of the Red Sox and their true fans?
- sgtbutterscotch, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2It's not really the team's fault, but put yourself in my shoes. It's hard to root against a team's fans without rooting against their team. In fact, that might be the best way to root against them.
- Anubis2051, on 07/07/2008, -4/+43No reason Varitek should be on this team. Period. He is batting .219 on the season, since when is that an all-star style batting average? Molinas probably been a better defensive catcher this year than Tek has.
And Kinsler should be the starting second baseman, hes having a phenomenal season.
So that I don't come off as an arrogant Yankee fan, Jeter is having an awful season, and, if it wasn't for the fact that this game is in the bronx, I would say young is more deserving.
Also Interesting how francona brought 2 extra 3rd baseman along..thinking of taking someone out a little early there?- cadmiumpaint, on 07/07/2008, -4/+9the players voted Varitek on....as a sox fan, i agree, he's been stinking it up this year.
he's still one of the best pitch callers, and defensive catchers in the league.- davewashere, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I agree. He's killing the Sox at the plate, but he's still above average defensively and probably the best pitch caller in the game. When he's not in the lineup, the Sox pitching goes downhill fast. He went on the DL in August, 2006 and the Sox won something like 4 games that entire month, taking them from a solid 1st place in the division to struggling to hold on to 2nd (they ended up 3rd). I don't know of any other catcher in the league that has that much of an impact on the pitching staff. He still doesn't deserve a spot on the All Star team, because his hitting is just so terrible this season.
- jonnyboy1544, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3Right on. Varitek has no business on that team. This game isn't an exhibition anymore. It's all about home field advantage for the world series. So the best players should be voted on and that's that.
Also, if the league is going to make a ***** rule (like making the all star game count for the WS) then they shouldn't require that a player from every team has to be on the team. That's complete *****.- joe38, on 07/15/2008, -0/+0but then, the game no longer has its diverse flavor, and may turn off some fans who just want to see ONE measly person from their team play. (yep- Tigers fan hahaha)
- joe38, on 07/15/2008, -0/+0Lots of 3rd basemen in the lineup...I think that Carlos Guillen is there for a couple of reasons: he's a good utility guy (can play all around the infield in a pinch), and he's a switch hitter.
His playing 3rd base might be more of a coincidence than anything else.
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/07/2008, -4/+9the players voted Varitek on....as a sox fan, i agree, he's been stinking it up this year.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 07/07/2008, -7/+13god the fans are stupid. I'm so angry. I mean, they seriously voted in Ortiz?? He was having a terrible year before he got injured for most of the season so far. Oh well, I guess I should just be happy Ivan Rodriguez didn't get voted in this year. Dammit, now I'm pissed he got voted in last year...
- awtripp, on 07/07/2008, -2/+3He was having a terrible avg year, but his HR and RBI numbers were near league leading.
- awtripp, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Why would you dig me down? He had 16 HR and 43 RBI's before he left with his injury June 1. That's April/May numbers. He's a ***** DH, those numbers are ***** great for two months. SO extrapolating from those numbers, he deserved to be the DH at the All-Star game. Douche bags.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 07/07/2008, -0/+113 homers* not to mention a .252 ba
and please, fan's don't extrapolate *****
- PlayingGangsta, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6Ortiz won't be playing anyway, Milton Bradley is replacing him.
- Scrappy1850, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1are you a fan? welcome to stupid
- awtripp, on 07/07/2008, -2/+3He was having a terrible avg year, but his HR and RBI numbers were near league leading.
- BennyGreenberg, on 07/07/2008, -4/+42The problem is it is too much of a popularity contest - not an All Star Selection.
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/07/2008, -4/+3well the all star game isn't what it used to be. Now all the players are too worried about breaking a nail to put any effort into it.
- bundwallah, on 07/07/2008, -5/+1That's always been the knock against mid-season all star games. Whether it be hockey, basketball or baseball. I'm sure the players are told to lay back and not get hurt. They should do what football does, have a game at the end of the season.
Even better, have the World Series champs play a game against the AL & NL all stars combined. - bigdsinferno, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6yeah because football players really take the pro bowl seriously!
...at least this game represents home field advantage. - Ajajadude, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3The NBA and NFL all-star games are nothing short of jokes. If the MLB all-star game was anything like the NBA or NFL games, the scores would be well up into the double digits for both sides, outfielders would lazily jog after fly balls and miss most of them, infielders would be trying to do showboat throws and pitchers would be trying to pitch softball style. The only other all-star game in American sports that's played harder is in the NHL.
- bundwallah, on 07/07/2008, -5/+1That's always been the knock against mid-season all star games. Whether it be hockey, basketball or baseball. I'm sure the players are told to lay back and not get hurt. They should do what football does, have a game at the end of the season.
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/07/2008, -4/+3well the all star game isn't what it used to be. Now all the players are too worried about breaking a nail to put any effort into it.
- Spartyon, on 07/07/2008, -11/+17david ortiz? come on!!!!!!!!! hes hitting .250
The MLB all star game the past 10 years has been great, but this is ridiculous. The fact that there are a million red sox fans who sit there and click and click and click and then change email addresses and click and click and then repeat is sickening. I'll give the red sox the rest of their selections, youkilis, pedroia, and even ramirez(hitting .280 but .375 OB). But Ortiz? This is just the downfall of the selection system for the all star game. The rays are also horribly underrepresented, im not a red sox hater its just the fact that the baseball all star game is the best of all major sports and this is really just putting a drain on it all.- redfred18t, on 07/07/2008, -8/+3someone needs to call the wahmbulance on spartyon
- tewstep, on 07/07/2008, -5/+2u r also aware that he's not playing, right?
- Scrappy1850, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1jimmy key?! he's what? like 40? i could hit him...
- zioxide, on 07/07/2008, -3/+2Batting average isn't the only statistic in baseball. Ortiz was tied for the AL lead in HR and close to it in RBI when he got hurt.
- weebs, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2And he continues to have a high .OBP. Batting average is massively overrated.
- Yousty, on 07/07/2008, -10/+29I sure hope the Cubs beat the Red Sox...er...I mean I sure hope the NL beats the AL.
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/07/2008, -5/+1Red Sox / Yankees infield. Thats crazy.
- ScottyDontKnow, on 07/07/2008, -12/+4No Griffey? booooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
- PlayingGangsta, on 07/07/2008, -2/+5No .240 hitter with fewer than 15 home runs and 40 RBI? Booo!
I realize he's a legend of the game, but with those numbers, unless he's retiring (which he isn't) there's no reason he should get in. A 600th home run should not be an automatic all-star game qualifier. - kidathinnes, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2Yes, I am from Cincy and still thinks he doesn't deserve it. Phillips deserved it more.
- 1337chic, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2A Cincy native and Reds fan my whole life and Griffey doesn't deserve it and hasn't for years. He just gets in based on name recognition.
- PlayingGangsta, on 07/07/2008, -2/+5No .240 hitter with fewer than 15 home runs and 40 RBI? Booo!
- masterkenobi, on 07/07/2008, -3/+4This didn't work that well when Joe Torre put a bunch of Yankees in the All Star game years ago.
- BornWithRage, on 07/07/2008, -2/+24As a Yankee fan I can say Jeter has been no all star this year.
- serif69, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5I agree, but it's a class move to put the Yankee captain on the All-Star team when it's in Yankee Stadium, regardless of performance, especially the last year it's open.
- MakaveIi, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I have to agree...Hes not having the most Jeter year...
- Morphinity, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Neither has Varitek.
- Abstractpie, on 07/07/2008, -3/+8Evan Longoria from the Rays should have at least been a reserve for the AL. He is much better than Joe Crede in my opinion.
- Bosoxmrkn, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1He's definetely my vote for 32nd man, even though I despise the fact that the Rays are beating my Red Sox. They do deserve more representation, but most are correct in saying that they are doing well as a team, and don't have many individual standouts.
- JFallon126, on 07/07/2008, -10/+2Red Sox flavor? Cubs? There's just as many Yankees as Cubs. Looks liked a lame attempt at a controversial headline.
- rabidg00se, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2The Yanks and Cubs players are going to be on different teams though, and the AL team is definitely more dominated by Red Sox than Yankees.
- Peaco19, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6There's 7 cubs to 3 yanks...
- galvo, on 07/07/2008, -9/+8Chase ***** Utley.
What the ***** is Kosuke Fukudome doing on the list. Lame.- BrokenVisage, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5All bow to Chase "Silent Service" Utley
- cwl157, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1i guess you havent been watching the cubs but Kosuke is one of the most patient hitters i have ever seen and has one of the greatest knowledge of the strike zone out of anyone in baseball and has taken the NL by storm pretty impressive considering he has never seen any MLB pitching until this year.
- mobbo, on 07/07/2008, -9/+1MLB can eat it. Fix your INSANE blackout rules and maybe I'll come back.
- gwisawesome, on 07/07/2008, -18/+2whats all this then? people care about the MLB?
- mal1964, on 07/07/2008, -8/+1Joe Mauer is so HOT!
- DarNasty, on 07/07/2008, -2/+11I've had enough of this fan voting garbage. Not one of the AL starting players plays for a first place squad and a couple of these players haven't stepped on the field in over a month (Ortiz and Soriano). These games are more like high school popularity contests rather than who really deserves it. Not to mention if you do not like the taste of New York's butt, this game will not even be worth watching.
- bdptcob, on 07/07/2008, -0/+8While I agree fans voting is garbage (along with allstar/probowl rosters in general), just because you pitch for a winning team doesn't mean you deserve it and vice versa. Look at Johan Santana's numbers compared to his wins and losses and see where his team is. Next to nothing run support wise. That doesn't mean he shouldn't be an all star.
- SleepJunkie, on 07/07/2008, -7/+1Celebration of Yankee Stadium? Yeah right, Jeter.
- Takfam, on 07/07/2008, -9/+2The article is just more ESPN east coast bias ***** designed to stir up the fans on the North Atlantic coast. If ESPN had their way, they'd switch the NY teams and put the Mets in the AL and the Yankees in the NL. That way, the desk jockeys there could masturbate furiously to their Yankees-Sox dream World Series every year during spring training.
- Lax32, on 07/07/2008, -1/+9All star rosters are always jokes. When its a fan vote its always just name recognition, and when its a league vote its always political.
- MakaveIi, on 07/07/2008, -1/+5About time some Cubs players got on...I will streak naked and drunk with a party hat on and a clown nose if they win the World Series this year..I sure hope they win..
- bigdsinferno, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1i didn't hope they'd win before, but now i really don't.
- stevo3131, on 07/07/2008, -2/+12Josh Hamilton is unreal. Just a few years ago he was a crackhead and out of baseball. Now he is an allstar starter and contending for the Triple Crown. Hats off to Josh for overcoming addiction and becoming one of the better players this season.
Here is a story about his past:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=292644 ...- kidathinnes, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1Just don't let your increased salary lead to coke binges.....
- mizatt, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I agree. Enjoy coke responsibly
- kidathinnes, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1Just don't let your increased salary lead to coke binges.....
- stellarceltic, on 07/07/2008, -2/+11David Wright > Aramis Ramirez (although it's close)
Jose Reyes > Miguel Tejada (easily)
However, the biggest snub of all, even though I'm a Mets fan......
Pat Burrell. Monster year, and yet Kosuke Fukudome makes it. Sickening.- jankind, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Nice! Classy comment, Mets fan.
-Phillies Fan - thegreenspanput, on 07/07/2008, -1/+0chipper >> wright

kthx.
- stellarceltic, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Chipper is starting. We're talking about reserves.
- jankind, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Nice! Classy comment, Mets fan.
- tewstep, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Tek does not deserve to be there, but that being said there's not really a bumper crop of stud catchers in the AL these days.
Same with Jeter - getting the Wade Boggs treatment this year!!! - JeremyK684, on 07/07/2008, -1/+10Where are players from the Rays? They are doing better than the Sox or Yanks and yet no players on the all-star rosters... Very unfair. They should cap the # of players per team / all-star roster...
- Ajajadude, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3Apparently their fans don't know how to work the internet. Which is no surprise, seeing as their die hard fans are also hitting up the early bird specials.
- Bosoxmrkn, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0Yes the Rays are in First... but who do you suggest goes, besides the 2 players already going (Navarro and Kazmir), and the possible 3rd in Longoria?
There are no Standouts on the Rays lineup. They are all producing. It goes to show that when there aren't any weak links a team can accomplish more than a team with 5 all stars and a few weak links. The Rays however, do not have any standout performers who have stats that are up with the best in the league.
- macromorgan, on 07/07/2008, -2/+4Kinsler > Pedroia
Interesting story too... Kinsler had to transfer to Missouri St because he wasn't getting any starting time at second base in college. The starting second baseman blocking Kinsler... was Pedroia.
Ohh... and Young should be starting at shortstop. That's not a testament to how good Young is this year, it's a testament to how bad all AL shortstops are playing this year. - abediz, on 07/07/2008, -3/+11go cubs go
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3i'm a huge football fan and i've can't ever remember watching a pro bowl.

- mlivebc, on 07/07/2008, -9/+1what's baseball?
- futurekill, on 07/07/2008, -11/+2who cares?
- bdptcob, on 07/07/2008, -2/+6Griffey should not be there.
Varitek should not be there.
Ludwick should be starting ahead of Fukudome.
Bradley should be starting ahead of Ortiz...not as an injury sub.
Kinsler should be starting ahead of Pedroia.- stellarceltic, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Burrell should be starting ahead of Ludwick, and Fukudome shouldn't even be on the team.
- kidathinnes, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2???? Griffey isn't there.
- bdptcob, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1You sure are right. I was reading another link before this one that said he was. My apologies.
- dekuscrub, on 07/07/2008, -0/+9If we let guys like Varitek make the team, maybe the NL will have a chance this year.
- INDOAZZ, on 07/07/2008, -1/+42 Giant pitchers for the NL roster what a feat for a team with the worst hm. record in the league.
- chris006, on 07/08/2008, -0/+0Lincecum... 10-1 on a loosing team (should be the starter for the NL)
Wilson... leads the league in saves
AND the giants still have a chance in the WORST division in all of sports
btw... this one COUNTS! (f-ing Selig)
- chris006, on 07/08/2008, -0/+0Lincecum... 10-1 on a loosing team (should be the starter for the NL)
- stephaniegrace, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6PAT BURRELL. He's a killer this year, he should have made it. There's still that last chance fan vote...
- dmentd, on 07/07/2008, -7/+87 Cubbies total plus LOU!!!! hell yeah!
- zetamilk, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Can't wait for this to be over so i don't have to see this "VOTE NOW" crap being pushed everywhere. This is going to ruin arguments for Hall of Fame voting down the road. It's not a huge factor but All-Star games are always mentioned. All fan voting does is add on "All-Star" years to players that aren't having all star years and takes away from the one's who are.
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4I remember watching all star games in the 80s, where it seemed as if every position had a future HOF'er....
Ripken, Boggs, Gwynn, Sandberg, Ryan, Schmidt, Puckett, O Smith, Fisk.......
times have changed for sure.- davewashere, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3I'm sure there are a lot of future Hall of Famers in this year's All Star game as well, but we don't have the advantage of hindsight to know which ones will have long, Hall of Fame careers. I'm sure in 1985 it wasn't clear that Puckett, Gwynn, Sandberg, Boggs, and Ripken were going to be in the HOF some day. After all, they had only been playing for a couple seasons. Just looking at the veterans in this year's lineup, I'm sure A-Rod, Jeter, Manny, Ichiro, and Chipper Jones are likely HOFers, and that's just the position players. Several of the younger guys like Utley, Mauer, and Pedroia might end up having HOF careers.
Every All Star game has some guys who won't put together great careers. Going back to my 1985 example, where are Joaquin Andujar, Scott Garrelts, and Damaso Garcia right now?- cadmiumpaint, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Joaquin Andujar...ha..i remember i got a cool refracting baseball card of is out of a box of cornflakes back in the day. I couldn't pronouce his name...lol
good point. Maybe as a kid those guys just seemed larger than life. I dunno..or maybe just seeing Ozzie Smith vs Cal Ripken ever year was a big deal.

- czarnick420, on 07/07/2008, -3/+2***** that Line-up, I'm so tired of Boston and New York, last time I checked there are a lot of other teams!
- davdev, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3None of whom get the National Ratings that the Yankees and Red Sox get.
- BigKopp, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1But many of whom have better players and records.

- bizsumpark182, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6I'm disappointed that more Rays players didn't get in. Maybe Longoria will get in on the last vote. But, I have a feeling Yankee Nation will get Giambi in.
- alpha19, on 07/07/2008, -3/+2Kosuke Fukudome.... Fuk-u-do-me.... is this some kind of sick joke?
- PlayingGangsta, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2That is exactly how he pronounces it, too. It is a sick joke.

- miamiflashfan, on 07/07/2008, -0/+7Jesus christ, the whole AL lineup is based on popularity.
- BigKopp, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Seriously, it's rediculous.

- ksbruck, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0Too bad the players can't be pre-selected on their records/performance first, then you vote from that list. That way some of the talent on the smaller teams would show up in the roster. This is just a stupid popularity contest between the big teams. Why even watch?
- labritton, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0I agree. I think the players should be there because of there performance
and records. I think it is more of a popularity contest. Some teams have
a lot of players there and some teams just one player. Also, you always see
the same players like D. Jeter, Alex Rodriguez.

- 1337chic, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Ballot box stuffing like the Reds did awhile ago?
Sometimes we get clever here in Cincy with our cheating ;) Too bad it was so damn traceable thanks to the Enquirers premade ballots. - bambam630, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4Y. Molina is always being overlooked. It's a disappointment that he hasn't been honored like he deserves.
- groberts1980, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Yadi is the man.
- troymccluresf, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Not to mention his brother. Bengie's quietly putting together a pretty good year.
- chris006, on 07/08/2008, -0/+0agreed... in past seasons, but not this one. Yadier will enjoy the spotlight soon enough but his older brother Bengie got the snub in the Molina family this year.
- schwit, on 07/07/2008, -6/+1Pujols should be there instead of Lee. OBP, SLG and SOs make it obvious.
Player AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO OBP SLG AVG
D. Lee 359 59 110 24 3 15 53 185 37 62 .368 .515 .306
A Pujols 263 45 92 18 0 18 48 164 58 28 .471 .624 .350- cwl157, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1lee did not make the all star team this year
- g2506g2506, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0I'm not surprised Dioner Navarro made it. He should be starting compared to the season others have in the same league. He's the star catcher for the team with the best record in baseball. He should be starting.
- djHBRD, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1No Nationals? What a surprise.
- P522, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Cristian Guzman made the reserves.
- PlayingGangsta, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Fact: Every team must be represented by at least one player. Even the Nationals, Royals, and Pirates.
- zioxide, on 07/07/2008, -1/+5Jason Varitek should not be on that ***** team. He hasn't done ***** for the Sox for 2 months. The worst part is that he was voted in as part of the players' vote, not the fans vote.
Manny also shouldn't be starting. He hasn't been that great. JD Drew should be starting over Manny.
Also, lol @ Jeter being the starting shortstop. Most overrated player in the game. Horrible range and average defensively, and he's not putting up offensive numbers like he used to. -
